LIFESTYLE LETTER

The Style of your Life In Snohomish, work-life balance isn’t just a concept; it’s a lifestyle. The blend of scenic beauty, community spirit, and family-friendly amenities creates a quality of life that’s hard to match. Whether you’re exploring forest trails, attending a local festival, or simply enjoying a sunset over the river, Snohomish feels like home—a place where life’s simple pleasures shine the brightest. As the golden days of summer unfold in the breathtaking landscapes, we find ourselves immersed in the season's vibrant charm. The warm, sun-drenched afternoons invite leisurely gatherings in the backyard, while serene mornings by the water’s edge offer moments of quiet reflection. This is the season where nature’s beauty harmonizes with the special memories you’ve created with family and friends. As you savor these final weeks of summer, consider the simple pleasures: alfresco dining under starlit skies, boating adventures on the sparkling waters of the area lakes, and garden soirées framed by the soft hues of a Pacific Northwest sunset. The region’s lush scenery, coupled with the warmth of community, makes this a truly idyllic time. Yet, as the days subtly shorten and the crisp whispers of autumn approach, excitement builds for the cozy comforts and festive gatherings that come with cooler temperatures. The Pacific Northwest transforms into a canvas of rich amber and crimson hues, providing a picturesque backdrop right outside your window. Now is the perfect moment to prepare and style your home for the seasons ahead. Consider enhancing indoor spaces with plush textiles, warm lighting, and curated accents that reflect the natural transition. Outdoor fire features, covered patios, and weather-resistant furnishings can extend your enjoyment of the fresh, cool evenings, allowing you to relish the outdoors even as the temperatures dip. As autumn arrives, local farms and markets burst with harvest delights—perfect for crafting seasonal dishes that warm the heart and home. Embrace what the season offers by hosting intimate dinners, where the ambiance is as rich as the flavors served. Whether basking in summer’s lingering warmth or anticipating the cozy elegance of fall, your home is the heart of every cherished moment. Here in Snohomish, each season offers an opportunity to celebrate both nature’s splendor and the refined comforts of your living spaces. Wishing you and your family a joyful summer’s end and a graceful transition into the beauty of the cooler months. S H A N N O N C O Y, P U B L I S H E R @SNOHOMISHCITYLIFESTYLE

PETALS AND LENS

Wearable Blooms and One Unforgettable Collaboration ARTICLE BY COURTNEY EVANS PHOTOGRAPHY BY BEAUCLAIR PHOTOGRAPHY

14

I NSP IR E D BY | STYL E + B E AU T Y

It all started with a simple assignment for Snohomish City Lifestyle—a loving local cover story on florist and boutique owner Candice Szarzec of The Petal and the Stem for our February 2024 issue. Photographer Shannon Beauclair was tapped to capture the feature. But what began as a simple photoshoot blossomed into something far more magical: a creative partnership rooted in mutual respect, artistry, and the shared values of beauty and community. “I photographed Candice when Snohomish City Lifestyle was just starting out,” Shannon recalls. “I remember walking into her shop and thinking, This place is special. That energy stuck with me. Fast forward a year, and business had slowed down - I found myself craving a collaborative, meaningful creative project—and her shop immediately came to mind.” Known for her emotive editorial photography and global portrait work, Shannon reached out with an idea: What if we brought something beautiful to life—together? The vision was simple but bold: a live editorial photoshoot staged right in Candace’s shop, with wearable floral fashion as the centerpiece. Candice didn’t hesitate. “She called me right away and said, ‘Yes. Let’s do it.’” And just like that, floral fashion took on a new life. The resulting event was a dreamy fusion of live art and local

spirit—an afternoon where floral crowns, blooming jewelry, and living accessories weren’t just styled—they were sculpted in real time. With hair and makeup by Beauclair Studio, gowns from For the Luv of Bridal, live music by Goodnight Suzie, and wine tasting courtesy of Rush Lattin Cellars, it was a full sensory experience— where art, flowers, and fashion collided. “These weren’t just accessories,” Shannon explains. “They were living, breathing statements. Every piece that Candice created was a celebration of resilience, beauty, and storytelling.”

ROOTED IN PURPOSE

Both women brought more than just talent to the table—they brought purpose. For Candice, flowers have always been more than petals and stems—they’re her way of surviving, thriving, and giving back. CONTINUED >

THAT MATTER." ~ SHANNON BEAUCLAIR

FOR ME, IT’S ABOUT CONNECTION, ABOUT TELLING STORIES

“PHOTOGRAPHY HAS NEVER BEEN JUST ABOUT IMAGES 16

I NSP IR E D BY | STYL E + B E AU T Y

At just 13 years old, homeless on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, she began making leis and selling them to tourists just to get by. “Now at 47, I can say I never gave up on myself,” she reflects. “The way I give back is through flowers”—seeing each bloom as a feeling, a memory, a way to express love and gratitude. That spirit of giving is woven into every part of The Petal and the Stem, which delivers custom florals seven days a week, creates hundreds of wedding arrangements each year, and regularly supports

local causes—especially first responders and community wellness initiatives. For Shannon, the shoot supported a mission close to her heart: organ donation awareness. Through her ongoing photography work with LifeCenter Northwest, she honors the families of organ donors—highlighting the beauty and strength of giving life to others. “Photography has never been just about images for me,” Shannon says. “It’s about connection. About telling stories that matter—whether that’s for a small business or a grieving family. I want my work to mean something.” What made this collaboration so special wasn’t just the art on display—but the mutual respect and intention behind it.

“When I collaborate, it’s with people who share that same spirit—kindness, community, authenticity,” Shannon says. “It wasn’t about what I could get. It was about what we could give.” And it was. From sweet treats and thoughtful giveaways to real-time styling and storytelling, this was more than a shoot—it was an experience. One that showcased what happens when two passionate women come together not to compete, but to lift each other up. Events like these are reminders of the magic that happens in small towns. That

partnerships born in passing can become powerful moments of connection. And that when we lift each other up, beauty follows. “We didn’t just host a photoshoot,” Candice says. “We created an experience. We brought people together around flowers, art, and giving back.” And just like her first lei sold on a Hawaiian roadside, that simple spark of creativity continues to bloom—in every flower, every photo, and every heart it touches. Sprig BEAUTY

INSPIRING CONFIDENCE THROUGH BEAUTY AND STYLE

For Aaron and Alyssa Hoffman, Snohomish offers the perfect blend of community and small-town charm, making it an ideal place to raise their three children, Ruby, Marigold, and Aksel. “Our whole life is here in Snohomish; we live, work, and play right here in the historic district,” shares Alyssa. “It's a great small-town community and I love that you don't feel like you get lost in the crowd. It's a face-to-face connection type community, which I think is really unique and special, especially in the day we live in today where everything is email and phone calls. I love that it is still a place of personal connections.” In 2019, Alyssa opened Sprig Flower Company on First Street in downtown Snohomish. As the business grew, so did her interest in clean beauty and skincare products. Through her own personal health journey, Alyssa discovered the many benefits of using clean beauty and non-toxic skincare products. That research turned into a passion to share her knowledge with other women and in the fall of 2022, Alyssa launched Sprig Beauty Company, also located downtown. The boutique carries clean cosmetics, skincare, and haircare products as well as women’s clothing. “I love helping women find what makes them feel beautiful, because we're not a copy and paste, one-size-fits-all makeup and clothing boutique,” she says. “Everybody has their own style and favorite feature, and I love helping women explore and find that in themselves.” The boutique carries clean cosmetic lines such as RMS Beauty and Jane Iredale as well as skincare lines including Osea, Earth Harbor, and Coco Kind. “All of our brands are U.S.-based, which I love, and we try to source as much locally as we can. I'm also very careful and have a high standard about what we bring into the shop,” explains Alyssa. “Everything on our shelves is held to a high standard as

far as quality of ingredients and brands that are transparent with their ingredients. Everything is phthalate-free, fragrance-free, and considered non-toxic across the board.” The boutique’s clothing style leans towards clean and classic pieces with modern twists. Alyssa’s goal is to keep women on trend but still integrate timeless pieces into their wardrobes. “I love to focus on that feminine feel, with dresses and pieces that make women feel beautiful. I look for pieces that complement all body types and make women feel feminine, beautiful, and confident in their day-to-day life,” shares Alyssa. “For me, as a homeschool mom, I also want something I can wear at home that is comfortable and that I feel cute in, but I can also wear while playing with my kids on the floor.” Sprig Beauty Company is more than simply a place to find clean products, it includes a strong educational component to help customers understand why the products are helpful and how to use them appropriately. “With our products, we really like to educate people on the why and how to utilize the products. We have a makeup artist on staff who helps customers, and we also offer color analysis to help people even further with understanding

their style,” says Alyssa. “So we try to really round it out as a full experience as far as all the different needs when it comes to external appearance.” Alyssa is also excited about launching an esthetician room this fall, part of her commitment to expanding services to meet the needs of women of Snohomish. Another way the Hoffmans serve the community is by partnering with local organizations to support and provide for teen moms. Biannually, the boutique donates items that help teen moms dress for success by outfitting them for jobs and job interviews. For Alyssa, the boutique serves as an opportunity to support and encourage the women of Snohomish in both style and spirit. She says, “Sprig is genuinely about making women feel beautiful inside and out, giving them the confidence boost they need, and helping them realize that they don't have to look like everybody else, but instead they can be confident in who they are.” Stop by Sprig Beauty Company, located at 1204 1st Street in historic Snohomish. THE END-OF-SUMMER SALAD (AND GO-TO VINAIGRETTE) YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR

You may have recently noticed burrata popping up on every restaurant appetizer menu in town. It is, in fact, having a moment. If you aren’t familiar with the cheese of the season, burrata is the close cousin of fresh Mozzarella - filled with luscious cream. When sliced open, the cold cream pours out into a generous, saucy mess. It is decadent and delicious, meant to be sopped up with fluffy, crusty bread or dropped onto perfectly toasted crostini. Here, the burrata has been prepared as part of a flavorful blackberry and arugula salad, topped with crushed pistachios and fresh pieces of your new favorite cheese. The best part? The greens are tossed in a scratch-made vinaigrette: the only dressing recipe you need to bring all of your salads to life.

For the best rendition of the vinaigrette, this recipe calls for high quality, local olive oil and balsamic vinegars from A Bit of Taste - Snohomish Olive Oil Company. The quality of these products makes a noticeable difference in the depth of flavor of your dressing! The benefit of mastering this go-to recipe? Playing with the vast assortment of olive oils and vinegar flavors available to create seasonal dressings throughout the year. Visit the tasting room at A Bit of Taste - Snohomish Olive Oil

Company to sample everything from aged vinegars to truffle oils and learn from their knowledgeable team. They are always available to answer your tasting questions and suggest pairings for all kinds of delectable vinaigrette possibilities. Lastly, be sure to taste as you go! Adjust salt, vinegar, and pepper ratios, add your favorite herbs and spices to make this your own. Play with the base recipe to delight your senses and create something you truly enjoy.

B L A C K B E R R Y B U R R ATA S A L A D SERVES

DIRECTIONS:

4 people

1. Thoroughly rinse and dry your greens and blackberries. Remember, if the produce is still wet, the vinaigrette won’t properly cling to the salad. 2. Chill your produce while you prepare the vinaigrette (recipe below). 3. Coarsely chop or pound your pistachios with a mortar and pestle or place them in a plastic bag and beat with a wooden spoon. There will be fine bits and larger pieces, adding some texture and variety to the salad. 4. Toss the greens with your vinaigrette in a large mixing bowl. Move to your platter, creating a layer of greens as the base for your salad. 5. Assemble the salad! Pull your burrata into rustic, imperfect pieces and place evenly. Next, place your blackberries throughout, evenly distributed. Finish with sprinkles of the crushed pistachios to your liking. 6. Serve with crusty sourdough bread or perfectly toasted crostini. 7. If you prefer to enjoy burrata as an appetizer, assemble tiny toasts or crostini with a dabble of your vinaigrette, a few arugula leaves, burrata, a blackberry, and perhaps a small slice of prosciutto. It’s absolutely delicious this way as well.

INGREDIENTS: • 4 heaping cups rocket (arugula) or spring greens • Fresh blackberries (try seedless if you can find them) • ¼ cup Vinaigrette (see dressing recipe below!) • 1 round or 4 ounces burrata • ½ cup crushed pistachios, roasted & salted • 4 slices Italian prosciutto, roughly chopped (optional)

INGREDIENTS: • 1 tablespoon finely diced shallot or red onion • 1 tablespoon high quality champagne vinegar • ⅛ cup high quality balsamic vinegar, such as Denissimo Aged Balsamic from A Bit of Taste - Snohomish Olive Oil Company • ¼ cup high quality olive oil, such as Coratina EVOO from A Bit of Taste - Snohomish Olive Oil Company • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, grainy or smooth based on preference • ¼ teaspoon Kosher salt, such as Flori & Salt. • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper, or to taste

Slowly pour the olive oil into the mixture, whisking as you pour. 5. The vinaigrette should be homogenous and rich, ready to dress your greens, be gently drizzled atop crostini, and dipped into by a rustic sourdough bread. More than Dress for Success Clothes for Kids is lifting kids up, one outfit at a time. All children deserve to grow up feeling confident, stylish, and most of all—loved. At Clothes For Kids, wardrobes are more than just clothes - they’re confidence in the classroom, comfort on the playground, and a fresh start at the beginning of the school year. Each outfit—chosen by the child themselves, not handed to them—is a quiet but powerful reminder: you matter, and you belong. Serving youth from Head Start through 12th grade across Snohomish County and the Northshore School District, Clothes For Kids provides full wardrobes—completely free of charge—to thousands of students each year. But the impact can’t be measured in pants and parkas alone. It lives in the way a student stands taller, smiles wider, and walks into school with their head held high. “We’re here to empower students for success,” says the Clothes For Kids team. “One wardrobe at a time.” The effect goes far beyond clothing. For families experiencing financial hardship, back-to-school shopping can feel overwhelming—one more stressor in an already difficult season. Clothes For Kids eases that burden, replacing it with relief, gratitude, and joy. Teachers report boosts in classroom participation and self-esteem. Parents describe tearful moments of pride. And the kids? They light up—twirling, smiling, and strutting with the confidence of knowing they belong.

“I’ve had parents cry in our lobby just from the relief of knowing their child can start school feeling proud of what they’re wearing,” says Erin Ennis, whose mother, Sharie Ennis, founded the nonprofit 40 years ago. “It’s those little moments that stay with you.” Clothes For Kids began in a single classroom at the old Scriber Lake High School, with racks of donated clothes and a big dream. “My mom walked in and immediately saw the potential,” Erin recalls. “It was organized, sure—but she knew it could be so much more.” And it quickly became just that. The program expanded into multiple rooms and eventually took over the school’s locker rooms. “We were the last ones in the building,” she remembers. “They were literally tearing it down around us.” Today, that dream has blossomed into a thriving nonprofit with its own warm, welcoming storefront in Lynnwood. Students shop in a store-like setting filled with care, dignity, and hope. And in a beautiful full-circle moment, many of the kids who once received

wardrobes now return as volunteers— and even board members. “That’s when you know you’re doing something right,” Erin says. “When the kids you helped come back because they want to help the next generation.” Last year, Clothes For Kids helped more than 4,300 local students walk into school with dignity and confidence. That’s over 4,300 children no longer worrying about what they’re wearing- but instead ready to learn, connect, and thrive. Each outfit served as a quiet but powerful reminder: you matter, you’re supported, and you belong. Any low-income student who lives in or attends school in Snohomish County or the Northshore School District is eligible to shop at Clothes For Kids—from toddlers in Head Start to teens in high school. As founder Sharie Ennis knew from the beginning, Clothes For Kids has always been about more than clothing. It’s about what happens when a community wraps its arms around its youth and says, “You matter. We’re here for you.”Forty years later, that mission continues—empowering students, one wardrobe at a time. To get involved, whether booking an appointment to get clothing, volunteering, or donating visit the Clothes for Kids website at: https://clothesforkids.org/

FALL DECORATING TIPS FROM A LOCAL DESIGNER

As the air cools and the days grow shorter, there’s a natural pull to cozy up and reflect the changing season inside your home. Making your space feel inviting for the season isn’t about redecorating everything; it’s about layering in texture, soft lighting, and subtle seasonal details that signal the shift to fall. Here are a few ways to make your home feel cozy this season:

LAYER IN SOFT TEXTURES

It’s time to bring out the blankets! There’s a good chance you didn’t store them too far, so bring out those soft and comforting throws. Adding warm blankets to your couch and bed is one of the best ways to be able to cozy up as the evenings get cooler. While many people like to bring out fall colors, there’s no rule that says you have to! Any soft fabric that makes you feel comfortable and complements your style will create that cozy feeling.

ADD WARM, AMBIENT LIGHTING

As the days get shorter, lighting becomes one of the simplest ways to create a cozy mood at home. Add accent lighting such as table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces in key areas like your entry, living room, bedroom, and even the kitchen. It’s also a nice bonus if the lights are synced to a timer to automatically turn on as evening sets in.

ADD SEASONAL FOLIAGE

Refreshing your floral arrangements and vases around the house is an easy and elegant way to transition into fall. You can add a few seasonal stems to your existing arrangement to tie in the season, or you can do a full refresh with your larger statement arrangements in your entry or on your door. Quality life-like faux floral arrangements are no maintenance and can be used year after year, and mixing in some real branches and greenery from your own yard can make the arrangement feel fresh and personal.

BRING IN FALL SCENTS

One of the most important ways to make your home feel like fall is to bring in your favorite seasonal scent. Choose a new candle or reed diffuser that makes you feel the most cozy, and while the tried and true scents are a must-have, it’s fun to find new scents to try as well! Cozy doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead of buying too much pumpkin themed decor, focus on layering warmth, texture, and your favorite seasonal details, and your home will naturally feel like a place to slow down and enjoy the season.

gourmet treats crafted by the chef, bowls, a collar tag, and more—because pets deserve pampering, too. No stay is complete without indulging in the flavors of Southern California, and Crown Landing, the resort’s signature restaurant. Helmed by Executive Chef Ana Rosales, the menu celebrates land and sea through sustainable partnerships with local purveyors like Catalina Offshore Products. Highlights include local catch of the day, rich seafood linguine, and a silky Coronado clam chowder spiked with jalapeño and bacon. Chef Rosales infuses the menu with the soul of her Mexican heritage, creating a culinary experience that is both comforting and elevated. Cays Lounge, with its fire pit–lined terrace overlooking the marina and downtown skyline, is a favorite for evening cocktails and relaxed bites. For casual fare, La Cantina offers fresh, south-of-the-border flavors poolside, while Silver Strand Exchange keeps guests fueled with grab-and-go options for beach days and excursions. At Sea Spa + Fitness, guests will discover one of the premier wellness retreats in San Diego. From CBD-infused massages and rejuvenating facials to side-by-side treatments for parents and children, the spa offers something for every traveler. One of the few resort spas in the region to feature a Watsu pool, Sea Spa is designed to restore body and spirit. Complimentary yoga, stretching, sound healing, and spin classes round out a wellness-forward experience that can be tailored to any level of activity. With its own private marina, the resort is a natural playground for water lovers. Guests can rent paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats right from the dock—or hop on a bike and explore the scenic Silver Strand Bike Path, a coastal trail bordered by the Pacific Ocean on one side and San Diego Bay on the other. And for those visiting for business or group retreats, Loews Coronado Bay Resort offers versatile meeting spaces and scenic venues that seamlessly transition from day to night. From sunset sails off the marina to group pickleball tournaments and al fresco cocktail receptions, the resort offers countless ways to connect. What makes Loews Coronado Bay Resort truly unforgettable is its one-of-a-kind location. Nestled on a secluded stretch of coastline with panoramic views of the bay, city, and Coronado Bridge, the resort feels worlds away from everyday life—yet it’s just minutes from the vibrant energy of downtown San Diego. Whether you’re watching the sun rise over the water from your balcony, dining under the stars with the skyline as your backdrop, or simply breathing in the salty breeze, every moment here is filled with possibility. At Loews Coronado Bay Resort, luxury isn’t just about what you see—it’s about how you feel. And from the first welcome to the last look back at the bay, that feeling is unforgettable.

this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors.

ARTICLE BY TYLER AMADEUS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADRIEN KING AND ALEC WALWORTH

Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives. In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests

feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory. Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes. The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.
