LIFESTYLE LETTER
An Artful Introduction . . . Hey there, friend, September always feels like a bit of a reset button, doesn’t it? There’s something about the shift in seasons, the hum of school routines returning, and the creative energy that seems to spark when we give ourselves a moment to breathe. This Art & Style issue is filled with the kind of inspiration that lives close to home—and in many cases, right next door. You’ll meet wildlife artist Jared Knox, whose work reflects his deep faith and love of nature. Then there’s the Wilson Trio—three siblings whose music feels like memory in motion. We’re spotlighting some incredible local storytellers, like filmmaker and manga creator Robbie J. Atkinson and stylist Chelsea Lunceford, whose eye for detail and love of fashion help others shine with confidence. We also check in with Campbell High’s band program, which is absolutely marching into a new era of excellence (and yes, I’m biased, but it’s true). ArtsBridge Foundation reminds us how access to the arts can open lifelong doors, while photographer Ashley Putnam captures everyday moments that feel extraordinary. And if you’re looking to get hands-on, don’t miss V. Hand Stitching’s joyful community of imperfect creativity or Giving Tree Yoga’s upcoming wellness festival. Even our homes get a little love this month—from the thoughtful touches of K&M Floors to the storybook spaces dreamed up by designer Joni Lay. Art is everywhere. Style is how we bring it to life. And both are better when shared. Here’s to living creatively, S TA C E Y S C O T T, E D I T O R @ S M Y R N AV I N I N G S C I T Y L I F E S T Y L E

The sun dips low behind the bleachers at Campbell High School, and the stadium begins to hum with anticipation. The crowd gathers, chatting and scanning the field. The football players are warming up -- but for many in the stands, the real show starts at halftime. At the far end of the field, drums begin to roll. The Campbell High School Band is ready. Under the leadership of Director Marcus Chester and Associate Director Jimmy Jucks, the band is entering a new chapter -- one marked by energy, excellence, and explosive growth. “Our goal is to maintain the quality of our presentations while increasing the energy of our performances,” says Chester. “We want our students -- and the community -- to feel that excitement.” Now in their second year, Chester and Jucks are leading a transformation. Student enrollment is surging, and so is the spirit. More kids are not only joining but buying in -- committing themselves to something bigger than individual achievement. “This year’s focus is making sure the students know they are as amazing as we know they are,” says Jucks. “We want everyone to see a difference between our first year and this one.” From cymbals to marimba, What makes the Campbell Band stand out the front ensemble brings texture, timing, and a little isn’t just the sound -- it’s the soul. bit of magic to every piece. “We have a melting pot of personalities and backgrounds,” Chester explains. “We’re building bonds through music, and all the students work hard to present something meaningful both on and off the field.” Jucks adds, “Historically, the Campbell Band has shown that quality will always overcome quantity. We’re continuing that tradition, but with our own flair.” The experience reaches far beyond halftime shows. During football games, the band keeps the crowd energized from the stands -- firing off the fight song after a touchdown and lifting spirits with every beat. But it’s not just about school pride. Band, they say, is where life skills are forged -- discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. “Marching band helps students develop self-efficacy, time management, and self-discipline,” says Chester. “Those traits carry into every part of their lives.” “From pushing yourself to working with others and learning from criticism, the personal benefits go well beyond music,” adds Jucks.
Drum Major Owen Denoziere takes his place on the podium— proudly leading his peers through every count and cue.

Momentum in motion. Every step and sound is part of something bigger than themselves.
Of course, that kind of growth starts early. Campbell High’s band program is fueled by three feeder middle schools: Campbell Middle School, Griffin Middle School, and Pearson Middle School. The directors have built strong relationships with these programs to ensure a smooth transition for young musicians. “You show me a great high school band, and I’ll show you a great feeder program,” Jucks says. “Middle school band lays the foundation.” Ashley Cole, Director of Bands at Griffin Middle, shares in the excitement. “The Campbell Band program is gaining momentum in a very exciting way,” she says. “Mr. Chester and Mr. Jucks are bringing their vision to life, and I couldn’t be more optimistic.” At Campbell Middle, Olivia Kesler has a front-row seat to the transformation. “It overwhelms me with joy to see my former students having more meaningful and mature musical experiences,” she says. “Mr. Chester and Mr. Jucks are creating a community and culture that’s drawing more students to the program.” Events like 8th Grade Night, the Smyrna Tree Lighting, and joint concerts give middle school students a glimpse into their future -- and a reason to keep playing.
The drumline delivers more than rhythm—it drives the heartbeat of every performance.

The Campbell High School Band is growing—and your support makes all the difference. Donations help fund instruments, uniforms, and essential equipment. Attending performances shows our students just how much this community values their talent and hard work. To contribute or learn more, visit: www.campbellbands.com Let’s help keep the music—and momentum—going strong.
More than musicians—these students are part of a vibrant band family that plays, grows, and shines together.
“ We ’ r e b u i l d i n g a b a n d f a m i l y— w h e r e e ve r y st udent fe e l s s e e n , supported, and part of something p o w e r f u l .” — Marc u s Chester
To any student unsure about continuing band in high school, both directors offer the same advice: try it. “High school band is not like middle school,” says Jucks. “There are so many more performance opportunities -- you might regret not giving it a chance.” “Being part of the high school band is an experience you don’t want to miss,” adds Chester. “If you put in the effort, you won’t be disappointed.” The band’s rising popularity has created new challenges -- namely, keeping up with the demand for instruments, uniforms, and equipment. But the directors believe the solution starts with community involvement. “Our program is growing quickly, and we could use help replacing worn equipment and acquiring materials to support that growth,” Chester says. “Students love performing for a crowd. When people show up, it motivates them.” “Monetary donations are always appreciated,” Jucks adds with a grin, “but seeing folks in the stands at performances? That tells the students their hard work matters.” Despite the hustle and hard work, the directors say the real payoff comes in the moments that matter -- when the music hits, and everything just clicks. “It’s that ‘A-ha’ moment,” Chester says. “When students realize they’ve created something magical -- it’s incredible to watch.” For Jucks, it was the end-of-year banquet. “Sitting there, looking back at everything we overcame, seeing the excitement in the students for what’s ahead -- it reminded me of why I do this.” So this year, when you hear the beat of the drumline or see the flash of uniforms under Friday night lights, take a moment to cheer a little louder. The Campbell High School Band isn’t just keeping tempo -- they’re leading a movement. And it’s one the whole community can march behind.

SMALL BUSINESS INSIDER
Pivot or Perish
One of the hardest things to do as a business owner is to keep your finger on the pulse of your market to ensure your product or service is a fit and is relevant. Even harder is being able to look at your business and accept that your product or service isn’t what the market demands. You can then either shut down your business or change to meet demand. Pivoting or adapting your business to the market is a requirement to survive and thrive. Some famous failures to pivot include: Blockbuster, Kodak, Toys R Us, Borders, Xerox, Blackberry, and MySpace. Types of Pivots: • Target Market Pivot: Change to whom you market your products or services. • Product Pivot: Modify/adapt your product to better fit the market need. • Zoom In Pivot: Focus on a specific popular feature of your product, making it your primary offering. • Business Model Pivot: Change how you do business (example: switching from one-time sales to subscription billing). • Technology Pivot: Use new or different technology (example: call center to online chat, or even AI voice or chat). • Channel Pivot: Change how products are brought to market (example: retail sales to online sales). Minor pivots. A business leader needs to be plugged into the industry, track the competition, test their products or services, and learn from client feedback. Every client rejection you experience is feedback you need. Ask clients that both reject your product or service and those who buy for feedback on what they need or what concerns or issues they have with your product. Track that feedback and use it to help guide your evolution. Make incremental changes (minor pivots) along the way. Companies with huge financial resources have the advantage of time to build, fail, adapt, repeat. As a small business founder, you may only have the luxury of a couple of pivots before you run out of money. Major Pivots. This is where you substantially change your business model, perhaps targeting a completely different product or service. Examples are: Instagram which began as a location-based “check-in” app before focusing on photo sharing, Twitter was a podcasting platform that was worried about iTunes dominance so they decided to focus on a new idea called micro-blogging, Netflix shifted from DVD rentals to streaming. Pivots require time, money, and effort to implement, but often are key to survival. Evolution of an Entrepreneur: For most, the first business is as much learning to run a business, as working on the product or service. The risk of failure is highest since your energies are spread out and there is much to learn on top of working on your product or service. Each successive business attempt builds your knowledge of running a business, so those skills become secondary, thus allowing you to focus more energy on the product or service, the market, and competitors enabling you to pivot more quickly and more often. Your chances of success increase as you can expand your market awareness and have time to focus on products, services, and customer/market needs. The Key Takeaway: Pivoting is a natural part of business. Accept that almost no business gets the product or service right the first time, and you likely won’t either. Listen to the market. Look for a way that your business can fill a market need, and then pivot your business to fill that need. At TRUE Space, our business environment helps you streamline startup and corporate formation; keeping address, mail handling, meeting space, and office space simple and easy to manage.

ARTISTIC PERSPECTIVES CAPTURED THROUGH A CREATIVE, STORY-DRIVEN LENS.

Raised in the misty landscapes of the Pacific Northwest—a region rich in natural beauty and vibrant arts—my love for design, culture, and photography was sparked at an early age. Family travels further broadened my perspective, revealing the power of visuals to tell stories and capture the essence of people and places. The COVID pause became a turning point, inspiring the launch of Ashley Lynn Designs, where I introduced my unique pointillism drawings. Although I enjoyed my career in Parks & Recreation, the pull of photography remained strong. In 2023, armed with a new camera, I returned to capturing moments— and it felt like coming home. As my photography gained recognition, it naturally became an extension of my creative business. By 2025, I fully committed to photography and design as my career. Today, I’m grateful to create meaningful visuals and believe every image carries a greater story waiting to be told. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . At my core, I’m a creative first and a photographer second—a distinction that guides everything I do. My passion for visual storytelling extends beyond the lens, encompassing a variety of artistic mediums that continually inspire my creative vision. I don’t believe in limiting creativity. Instead, I draw from different art forms to spark fresh ideas and perspectives. As a professional photographer and a staff contributor to Smyrna Vinings Lifestyle, I specialize in capturing the essence of businesses, brands, and events. I create striking visuals that elevate a brand’s presence and share its unique story—whether showcasing company culture, highlighting a product, or documenting a special occasion. My approach is always intentional: finding dynamic angles and compelling compositions that stand out. I also love working with individuals to capture milestone moments in their lives. My goal is always the same—to reflect each person’s authentic self and story through the lens. Beyond client work, I continue my personal artistic journey through travel photography. I explore destinations to capture their distinct character, often tying a narrative to each frame. Many of these images become tangible art pieces available as framed prints, postcards, or modern metal displays. Most recently, I released my Georgia Local collection—a series dedicated to showcasing the beauty and diversity of our incredible state. Complementing my photography, I bring creativity to life through large-scale wall murals and intricate pointillism designs for clients and shops. This diverse skill set allows me to infuse artistic depth into every project—whether it’s a sweeping mural or a detailed ink sketch. My business is ultimately about uncovering the story behind every visual, no matter the medium, and sharing that narrative with the world.

When it comes to home design, don’t overlook what’s right under your feet. At K&M Floors, Smyrna-Vinings’ go-to flooring specialists, craftsmanship meets creativity with a warm, personal touch—and the results are stunning from the ground up. Locally owned and family-operated, K&M Floors offers full-service flooring design and installation for clients who value quality, character, and collaboration. Whether you’re
Warm Welcome: Wide plank hardwoods in matte oak tones create an inviting, grounded feel in this stunning front entry.
“It’s not just our craft -- it’s our family’s legacy. And we build it one floor at a time.” renovating a powder room or laying the foundation for a new build, their mission is simple: make every space feel like home. But behind the seamless service and showroom-worthy results is a family story built on resilience, legacy, and deep love for the work they do.
ROOTED IN RESILIENCE
Founded by husband-and-wife team Jason and Melissa Drum, K&M Floors was born out of necessity—and heart. In 2008, Jason lost his job as a flooring and tile craftsman when his company folded during the economic crash. Rather than start over under someone else’s roof, the Drums took a leap of faith and launched their own business. “We really went out on a limb,” says Melissa. “Right in the middle of the economy tanking, we opened K&M Floors. We had no choice, but we had a vision.” Named after their children, Kaiden and Makayla, the company remains a true family affair. Jason leads
the craft, Melissa assists with marketing & social media, and the kids—now 18 and 21—are already dreaming of joining the team. Today, K&M serves not only local families but also major commercial clients like Taco Bell, Dutch Brothers Coffee, and Dunkin Donuts. Still, residential remodels account for more than half of their work, with glowing referrals and top-rated reviews fueling steady growth.
WHAT’S TRENDING UNDERFOOT
So what’s hot in flooring right now? According to K&M, wide plank hardwood in matte or low-sheen finishes with warm, earthy tones is leading the charge. “We’re seeing a move away from high-gloss or overly cool tones,” Jason says. “It’s all about cozy, grounded finishes that work with real life.” For homes with kids, pets, or heavy foot traffic, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) continues to rise in popularity. “You get the texture and charm of wood with the water resistance and durability families need,” Melissa adds. “It’s the best of both worlds.”

BOLD BATHROOMS AND TILE WITH PERSONALITY
Bathrooms are also stepping into the spotlight. K&M is excited to see statement tile making a strong comeback, especially bold geometric patterns and vintage-inspired designs. “These small spaces are great for adding personality and charm,” Jason says. “We love when clients get creative in their bathrooms.” One standout project included a Cobb County new build with nine custom bathrooms—each featuring unique tile selections, but all tied together with wide plank hardwood throughout the home.
HELPING CLIENTS FIND THEIR STYLE
At K&M Floors, flooring isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a key part of your aesthetic. That’s why every project begins with a collaborative consultation. “We start by understanding a client’s lifestyle, design preferences, and the overall aesthetic they’re going for,” Melissa explains. From there, the team walks clients through a curated selection of materials, colors, and textures to match both their style and daily needs. The result is a space that doesn’t just look good—it feels authentic and livable.
AVOIDING COMMON PITFALLS
One of the most common mistakes homeowners make? Choosing flooring based on looks alone. “Durable options like LVP, tile, or harder woods like white oak are better suited for busy households,” Jason explains. “We help clients match the right product to their lifestyle—it saves frustration and money in the long run.” K&M’s team takes into account traffic flow, moisture, pets, and upkeep to ensure clients make decisions they’ll feel good about for years.

“We’re not just installing flooring — we’re helping families create spaces they love, with materials that fit their lifestyle and style.”
WHAT SETS K&M APART
K&M Floors brings a thoughtful, hands-on approach to every project. Many team members have been with the company from the start and take pride in delivering work that exceeds expectations. “We treat every home like it’s our own,” says Jason. “From the big picture down to the smallest details.” Their craftsmanship and service have earned the trust of high-profile clients and loyal homeowners alike. Their work has been featured in Little Red Wagon Magazine, and they continue to earn five-star ratings across review platforms. The company is also forward-thinking in its sustainability efforts, recycling carpet and padding and offering eco-friendly flooring to reduce waste.
A LEGACY IN THE MAKING
For Jason and Melissa, K&M Floors is more than a business—it’s a legacy they’re building for their children and community. “We’re not going anywhere,” Jason says. “When your vision is tied to your family and your future, your roots grow deep.”

In Perfect Harmony ARTICLE BY STACEY SCOTT PHOTOGRAPHY BY JADEN DURAND
The music usually begins with a glance. A silent cue, a deep breath—and then, the room fills with sound. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra cellist Denielle Wilson knows this rhythm well. It’s a language she shares with her sister, Danya, on violin, and her brother, Cliff Jr., on piano. Together, they are the Wilson Trio—three siblings raised on classical radio, Sabbath hymns, and the steady encouragement of family and faith.
THREE SIBLINGS. ONE SOUND. A SHARED STORY OF MUSIC, MEMORY, AND CREATIVE CONNECTION.

“OUR MUSIC IS SHAPED BY THE PEOPLE WHO POURED INTO US— OUR PARENTS, TEACHERS, AND CHURCH FAMILY. PLAYING TOGETHER HONORS THAT LEGACY.”
“We’ve been playing together since childhood,” she says. “We learned music the same way we learned life—side by side.” Now adults, the trio lives within just a few miles of one another—Denielle and Danya both in Smyrna, and Cliff in nearby Marietta. And while each has their own path, they continue to share a deep creative bond. “We’ve grown up musically together,” Denielle reflects. “We know each other’s strengths, habits, quirks. There’s a comfort there, but also a challenge. We push each other to be better.” Their ensemble, the Wilson Trio, blends classical technique with soul, gospel, and jazz influences—a style shaped as much by concert halls as by church pews and community stages. “We want our music to be excellent, but also heartfelt,” Denielle says. “It’s our way of honoring our faith and the people who’ve poured into us.” One of their most memorable moments came last January, when the trio celebrated 15 years of making music together with a special anniversary concert—an evening dedicated to the teachers, relatives, and church communities who shaped their journey. Denielle, who moved to Smyrna nearly three years ago, says the city has felt like home from the start. “There’s an energy here—a creative heartbeat,” she says. “From public art to local events, Smyrna celebrates its artists. That’s part of why my sister and I both chose to live here.” The Wilson Trio hopes to perform more frequently in the Smyrna-Vinings area, bringing their unique sound—and story—to neighbors old and new. “Music connects us,” Denielle says. “To each other, to our community, to something greater.” Follow the Wilson Trio on Instagram @the.wilsontrio or learn more at www.deniellewilson.com.

Wild at Heart JARED KNOX CAPTURES THE SOULFUL BEAUTY OF NATURE WITH EVERY BRUSHSTROKE
For wildlife artist Jared Knox, creativity and the outdoors have always gone hand in hand. “Growing up hunting and fishing made me naturally want to create the scenes I was seeing—or imagining seeing—out in the woods,” he says. From a young age, his sketchbook served as a second journal, filled with moments inspired by deer in the Georgia forests and the rhythmic sweep of wings overhead. Today, that instinct to honor wild spaces has evolved into a signature style—rooted in accurate proportions, yet alive with bold, expressive color. “I’ve always been drawn more to expressive art than realism,” Jared explains. “My work isn’t abstract, but it’s not hyper-realistic either. I try to place my art somewhere in between.” That middle ground gives his subjects— often quail in flight, a focused retriever, or a quiet woodland scene—a sense of movement and memory. His faith also plays a quiet but powerful role in his work. “I believe the Lord is the ultimate artist,” Jared says. “So my artwork is just a small reflection of His creativity.” That perspective shapes not only his purpose, but the reverence and joy that come through in every piece. Among his most meaningful works is a portrait of his bird dog, Huck, painted from a photo snapped on a dove field in Rome, Georgia. “It’s the first true portrait I’d done of him,” Jared says. “That moment, that setting, it just meant something.” Huck, a field-bred cocker spaniel, continues to inspire with his boundless energy and graceful form—a muse in constant motion. Based in Vinings and working out of a studio in Smyrna, Jared thrives in the vibrant local arts community. “It’s fantastic,” he says. “I’m just a short drive from my studio, my favorite art suppliers, and even the galleries that feature my work across the Southeast.” For Jared Knox, art is more than a profession—it’s a way of staying connected to the land, to the Creator, and to the stories that shaped him. Each painting is a memory made visible—a vivid reminder that the wild still lives close to home. jaredwknoxart.com | @jaredwknoxart

Virginia Noyes didn’t plan to start a business -- she just wanted to feel like herself again. Between long days at a draining job and a growing desire to do something creative, she picked up a needle, threaded it, and started stitching. “Eventually I had to ask myself,” she remembers, “‘If I don’t take the risk now… will I ever?’” So she took the leap -- and V. Hand Stitching was born. What started as a side hustle has grown into a vibrant creative brand full of heart, humor, and hand-stitched style. Virginia’s work is joyfully offbeat -- denim jackets with Taylor Swift lyrics, colorful pieces that shimmer and smile, and designs that invite everyone in. Nothing feels too precious or too polished -- just deeply personal. And lately, she’s been handing the needle over.

“Over the past year, V. Hand Stitching has really shifted toward events,” Virginia shares. “Our Craft & Yap nights have become the heartbeat of what I do.” These relaxed embroidery workshops are part craft class, part social hour, and fully judgment-free. Guests gather in cozy spaces -- often with music, a cold brew coffee bar, and lots of laughter -- while learning the basics of hand embroidery in a way that’s unintimidating and fun. Whether you’re new to stitching or just craving something creative, you’ll leave with a handmade piece -- and probably a new friend or two. You don’t need to be an expert to enjoy it. As long as you’re open to learning and slowing down, you’re in good company. “The back of your project is nobody’s business,” Virginia says with a grin. Translation? Don’t worry about the messy parts. That’s how you grow. And of course, no V. Hand Stitching story is complete without a little Swiftie magic. Virginia’s very first Taylor-inspired jacket -stitched purely for fun -- is still her favorite. “There are a million things I’d fix now,” she laughs, “but that imperfect piece connected me to people all over the world.” Through her art and events, Virginia is creating more than embroidery -- she’s creating space. A place where creativity is joyful, imperfection is welcome, and embroidery feels truly accessible to anyone willing to give it a try. Follow @vhandstitching on Instagram or check out upcoming Craft & Yap events at www.vhandstitching.com. No experience necessary -- just bring your heart, a little patience and maybe a friend.

Lost in Her Worlds Robbie J. Atkinson doesn’t just tell stories -- she builds entire universes. From the glow of a film set to the quiet flick of ink across a manga panel, the Campbell High School alum and founder of RPX Media Production is on a mission: “More stories. More wonder.” “I’m drawn to that sweet spot where filmmaking and manga overlap,” Robbie explains. “It’s not about the genre -- it’s about building a world your audience wants to get lost in.” That philosophy pulses through her illustrated novel The Seventh Kingdom: Fukushuu no Oukoku, a manga -- a Japanese-style graphic novel -- about a sheltered young woman’s eye-opening journey for revenge. The story was born from personal heartbreak -- written in the wake of Robbie’s father’s passing and a career burnout that forced her to pause nonprofit work. But what emerged wasn’t just cathartic -- it was electric. “I needed an outlet for my grief,” she shares. “What surprised me most was how many people connected with the story -- over 200 fans across 21 states. That kind of support? It’s humbling.”
Whether she’s storyboarding a manga scene or directing actors on set, Robbie’s creative process toggles between fluid imagination and meticulous precision. “Manga is abstract -- vision boards, lore bibles, flexible panel work,” she says. “Film? That’s shot decks, lighting plans, and perfect takes to catch raw emotion. It’s a dance of discipline and discovery.” Her love of layered storytelling traces back to Smyrna roots -- specifically, the literature classrooms of Campbell Middle and High School. “That’s where I learned to analyze narrative depth,” she says. “It was the perfect foundation for my film theory studies at Georgia State.” What’s next? A feature-length version of Kalimba, a short film already turning heads. She’s also in talks to bring The Seventh Kingdom to life as an animated series. Big things are coming -- and Smyrna can say they knew her when. With new projects on the horizon and a growing fanbase cheering her on, one thing’s clear: Lights, camera, imagination -- Robbie’s just getting started. From Indiana boutiques to music video sets, Chelsea Lunceford helps clients look and feel amazing.
Styled for the Spotlight ARTICLE BY STACEY SCOTT PHOTOGRAPHY BY ASHLEY PUTNAM
When Chelsea Lunceford moved to Vinings from Indiana, she brought more than a suitcase—she brought a lifelong love of fashion and a fresh creative spark. Though she didn’t know anyone working in fashion growing up, that didn’t stop her from dreaming. “There are so many pictures of me playing dress-up,” she laughs. “I’d watch movies and shows, then try to recreate the looks with what I had.” Her mom sewed her outfits, and trips to the fabric store became magical design sessions. Chelsea attended Purdue University and, the summer before her senior year, opened a boutique and began hosting pop-up shops around Indiana—her first foray into retail and styling. After moving to Atlanta, she joined the team at Spanx, wearing many styling hats during her years on the Merchandising team. “That job was a turning point,” she says. “Styling didn’t even feel like work. I loved every part of it.” In 2022, she created her first stylist portfolio and began assisting musicians through mutual connections. It quickly became clear this was more than a passion—it was her calling. She’s since styled singer-songwriters Brandon Lake and Max McNown, even co-designing a custom shirt. “I love translating the emotion of a song into texture and color,” she says. These days, Chelsea wears many stylish hats—working as a personal stylist for photo shoots, events, travel capsules, seasonal refreshes, and more. She’ll even shop for you, deliver the looks to your door, help you try everything on—and handle the returns. “I get to turn stress into excitement for people,” she says. “That’s the best part.” She finds balance between trend and timeless by mixing in vintage pieces—often sourced from estate sales or antique markets. “Those always get the most compliments,” she smiles. “They bring so much character to a look and often end up being the client’s favorite pieces.”

For that tricky summer-to-fall transition, Chelsea suggests choosing lightweight fabrics in richer, moodier colors—think brown or black linen, olive green poplin, or subtle leather accents like paneled denim. “It’s still 80 degrees, but we’re all craving that fall feel,” she says. “It’s about balancing comfort with seasonality.” Her signature philosophy? It all comes down to confidence. “Don’t chase every trend,” she advises. “Focus on what makes you feel amazing. That’s when style becomes something powerful.” And if you’re still not sure where to start? Chelsea’s got you. With a full-length mirror, a glass of bubbly, and a few handpicked pieces, she’ll help you rediscover the joy of getting dressed—and remind you that great style isn’t about labels. It’s about feeling like your best self, inside and out.
Max McNown wears the custom shirt co-designed by Chelsea Lunceford.

ArtsBridge sparks creativity, connection, and opportunity in schools across the state

2025 Leading Performers at the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (Photo by Ben Rose)
“Each year, two Georgia students step into the national spotlight—because of the foundation built right here.” It starts with a spark. A soaring violin note. A gasp during a pirouette. A character that makes you feel seen. For students across Georgia, ArtsBridge Foundation creates these moments—the kind that awaken imagination, build confidence, and open doors to possibility. Headquartered at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, ArtsBridge is on a mission to make arts education accessible—especially for Title I and underserved schools. Their work spans professional field trips, educational workshops, and game-changing programs like the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, lovingly known as the Shulers. Each year, two Georgia high school students are chosen to represent the state at The Jimmy Awards—essentially the Super Bowl of high school musical theatre. This year, that honor went to Hayden Poe and Kinsley Stephens of Dalton High School. After starring as Hermes and Eurydice in Hadestown: Teen Edition, they took their talents to New
York City. There, they were selected for elite Character Medley groups—and Kinsley went on to become one of the Top 8 national finalists with her standout performance of “I Can’t Say No” from Oklahoma! Their journey was guided by ArtsBridge’s Director of Arts Education, Elizabeth Lenhart, who mentors Georgia’s nominees each year. From preparing audition materials to offering one-on-one coaching, she ensures students are confident, polished, and ready for the big stage. Because the Shuler Awards are modeled after the Jimmy’s national format, students arrive with real-world experience—and a whole lot of heart. “One of the most beautiful things we witness,” says the ArtsBridge team, “is how quickly these programs create connection. Our Shuler nominees come in as strangers and leave as family.” Of course, not every ArtsBridge success story plays out under stage lights. CONTINUED >

B ACK STAGE | ARTS + C U LT U RE
Many students encounter the arts for the first time through a field trip—an experience designed to educate, engage, and expand horizons. The upcoming 2025– 2026 season features performances by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet, Synchronicity Theatre, Mister C’s exciting STEM stage show, and a moving new production of Young John Lewis in partnership with Theatrical Outfit. These programs don’t just entertain—they help improve test scores, support emotional growth, and inspire lifelong learning. Additionally, when students attend an ArtsBridge field trip, they receive a Snack Pack to help fight food insecurity, another growing issue for Georgia’s population. And at the heart of it all? A belief that the arts belong to everyone. ArtsBridge ensures that every student, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to engage meaningfully with the arts. By offering free transportation, financial aid subsidies, and programming that reflects the diverse communities they serve, the organization removes barriers that might otherwise keep students from experiencing the transformative power of creative expression. Community support is what makes it all possible. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, business leader, or arts lover, there are meaningful ways to get involved. Donate to the Financial Aid Subsidy or Scholarship Fund, sponsor a program, or give your time as a volunteer. Every contribution helps bring the arts to life for students who need it most. To learn more—or to be part of something inspiring—visit artsbridgega.org. Because every child deserves the chance to dream big, stand tall, and feel the light of the stage.

“SMYRNA IS BECOMING A PLACE WHERE ART ISN’T JUST SEEN—IT’S FELT.”
ROBERT HARRISON REFLECTS ON 15 YEARS OF GRASSROOTS PUBLIC ART, COMMUNITY CREATIVITY, AND THE JOY OF TURNING EVERYDAY SPACES INTO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL.

Fifteen years ago, I walked into a small gathering of local artists and business owners who wanted to bring more creativity to our community. It was the first meeting of the Smyrna Artist Business Association, and while the intentions were good, the momentum eventually faded. An early version of the Smyrna Arts Council followed but faced similar challenges. Rather than give up, I decided to take the lead. In 2017, my friend Kristen Ramsey and I co-founded the Indie Arts Alliance -- a grassroots effort to bring public art to the streets, parks, and public spaces of Smyrna. We hosted chalk-art festivals and lantern parades, organized pop-up art shows at the Old Smyrna Firehouse, and painted a massive mural at Vickery Hardware. We didn’t wait for official support or funding -- we just created, shared, and invited others in. For a while, it felt like we were building something meaningful without much notice from the city. But in 2019, a shift happened. Mayor Derek Norton was elected and brought a new enthusiasm for the arts. He formed the Public Art Committee and invited artists, citizens, and city staff to the table. I joined in 2020 and proposed the ARTery -- an art-forward walking and biking trail weaving its way through Smyrna. It’s now alive with painted fire hydrants, colorful traffic boxes, and crosswalk murals that celebrate creativity in the everyday. Since then, our local arts scene has begun to flourish. The Smyrna Arts Council relaunched with fresh energy and a full calendar of events. I’ve been honored to serve on the board over the past year, helping to nurture this creative momentum. If you’ve ever wanted to play a part in shaping Smyrna’s artistic identity, now is the perfect time. Visit smyrnaartscouncil.com to get involved. One of my longtime dreams came true last year when I purchased the former Spring Street Baptist Church property -- just next door to my home, the Old Smyrna Firehouse. I’ve transformed it into Spring Arts Studios, a space for local artists to create and collaborate. And earlier this year, I added Spring Creek Garden Club, a community garden open to my neighbors in Williams Park. After years of planting seeds -- sometimes quite literally -- it’s amazing to see creativity blossoming all around us. Smyrna is growing into a city where art isn’t just seen, it’s felt. And the best part? We’re only getting started. S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/SMYR N AV I N I N G S

R OOT ED I N CO M PAS S IO N, PO W E RED BY CO M M U N ITY Giving Tree Yoga’s Wellness Festival Returns with Purpose What happens when passion meets purpose on the mat? For Karina Carmichael, the answer is her annual 108 Charity Yoga & Wellness Festival—now returning to Smyrna September 20–21 for two days of healing, hope, and heartfelt community connection. Saturday’s programming will transform the Smyrna Community Center into a vibrant hub of activity, with guest speakers, high-energy HIIT and yoga fusion classes, chakra workshops led by Giving Tree’s 300-hour trainees, flower mala-making, and even Indian dance. Kids can participate, too—children’s classes will be hosted at Giving Tree Yoga during the festival. Sunday brings the heart of the event: a communal experience of 108 Sun Salutations. Karina has held the festival for years, but her dream is to one day gather 108 people moving in unison—a powerful symbol of unity and intention. The day concludes with a restorative yoga session and soothing sound bath. All proceeds benefit Food4Lives ATL, a nonprofit serving the homeless in Atlanta, and a school Karina has supported in India for over 15 years. “Yoga is about more than poses,” she says. “It’s about showing up—for ourselves and for others.” Local partners include Haven Yoga, Freedom Youth Yoga, Kaitlin’s Kids Yoga, Instant Imprints, Sports Chiropractor, and Frenchies Nail Salon. Volunteers, sponsors, and raffle donations are welcome and appreciated. Even brushing teeth feels enchanted when the bathroom is this charming—brass fixtures and blush details for the win!
Before Instagram-worthy nurseries were everywhere, there was Lay Baby Lay. Born from one mother’s yearning for beauty in the midst of new motherhood, the blog began as a creative lifeline for Joni Lay—and has since become a beloved source of inspiration for thousands of families across the country. Back in 2009, Joni was a newly minted mom, navigating postpartum depression and craving cheerful, soul-lifting surroundings. “There was so much inspiration for weddings at the time, but very little for babies,” she recalls. A graphic designer with a flair for storytelling, she shared her idea with her husband, who helped her bring the site to life. And just like that, Lay Baby Lay was born. What started as a personal creative outlet quickly became a movement—one rooted in joy, nostalgia, and the simple magic of home. “Creating spaces became a way to heal and to help,” says Joni. “I wanted to help other new moms who might be feeling lost. It gave me something bright to focus on, and I hoped it could do the same for someone else.”
Her signature aesthetic? “Vintage eclectic,” she says without hesitation. “I want rooms to feel like they’ve lived a life. Like they have a soul.” That soulful style is shaped by Joni’s deep love for the past. Her grandmother’s house. Dusty antique stores. Quiet corners of old restaurants. Even the golden glow of a well-shot movie scene. “I get the most inspiration from places that hold stories,” she says. “There’s a comfort in things that feel familiar, even if they’re new to you.” She steers clear of the design echo chamber that often comes with social media. “It’s so easy to lose your voice in a sea of sameness,” she says. “Looking back helps me stay true to myself and my vision.” Joni’s rooms shimmer with personality and playful details: velvet drapes, paint-by-number art, vintage tennis racquets, and Italian tole chandeliers that feel like ceiling jewelry. She loves incorporating unexpected pieces that aren’t traditional “art”—items that surprise, delight, and make a space feel collected, not curated. CONTINUED >

Dinner with a side of nostalgia— vintage globes, layered books, and crystal sparkle set the scene for memory-making.
And while her aesthetic is unmistakable, what makes Lay Baby Lay truly special is the heart behind it. “I never want anyone to feel like they need a perfect home,” Joni says. “I want them to feel inspired to make their space feel like theirs—imperfect, loved, and full of life.” Design, for Joni, isn’t just about style—it’s about belonging. “A room can be a soft place to land,” she says. “And when life feels messy or loud, that can make all the difference.” Now a mother of four, Joni continues to share ideas, room boards, vintage finds, and heartfelt encouragement through Lay Baby Lay. “I’ve been that overwhelmed mom searching for a spark of inspiration,” she says. “If I can be that spark for someone else—that’s everything.”
Designer, dreamer, and heart behind the magic—Joni Lay brings warmth, color, and joy to every space she touches.
Modern lines, vintage charm, and a whole lot of heart— Joni’s kitchen is where style and soul gather.
Where Heart Meets Home From nostalgic nursery nooks to family-friendly design ideas, Lay Baby Lay offers a treasure trove of inspiration for parents who crave charm, character, and creativity. Whether you’re hunting for vintage treasures on Facebook Marketplace or dreaming up a space that reflects your family’s story, Joni Lay’s thoughtful, joyfilled approach will leave you feeling both inspired and empowered. Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
3 - John 4:13
From Pennington’s Pen: Growing up, I have fond memories of visiting my great-grandfather on his farm in rural Alabama. I called him “Big Daddy,” and I loved going to his house to get a glass of ice-cold water and a chilled Goo-Goo Cluster from his refrigerator. Next to his house was a small, shingle roof structure that matched the look of his house. It was a well house, and inside of it was a deep well that supplied his house with fresh water. At Smyrna First Baptist, we think often about the importance of building wells in our community. This is a metaphor that we use to describe the ministries we seek to build in Smyrna that introduces people to the beauty of a Savior who loves them indescribably. John 4 records a time in Jesus’ ministry when He went out of his way to have a life changing conversation with a woman. After meeting Jesus, she would never be the same again. That is what we pray will happen around the ministerial wells that we build. We want people to be blessed by an offer of real community. We want to serve the needs of Smyrna in ways that are selfless and pure-hearted. But it isn’t a well that changes them. More than anything else, we want thirsty people, parched by the
challenges of life, to go to the well and discover Jesus. When they do, they will drink of the water that Christ promises will cause them to never be thirsty again. One of the wells that our church has built in our community is Upward Basketball. For over 20 years, we have sponsored this ministry to introduce people to a life-giving, soul-satisfying relationship with God that comes to us when we place our faith and hope in Christ. If your family would like to be a part of this year’s Upward Basketball Ministry, I hope you will sign up and jump in! This year, we are recruiting the help of volunteers to make this season one of our best we’ve ever had. If you would like to be a part of a church that is passionate about building wells here in Smyrna, we’ve love for you join us in what God is doing here.

Bet Big. Give Back. The 5th Annual Casino Night brings the community together for games, giving, and good times.
The cards are on the table—are you all in for the kids? On Thursday, September 12th, the Smyrna Business Exchange chapter of BNI will host its 5th Annual Casino Night, benefiting Fair Oaks Elementary School in Marietta. With casino-style table games, delicious food and drinks, raffle drawings, a silent auction, and a thrilling grand prize, it’s an evening packed with fun—all for a fantastic cause. Fair Oaks Elementary is a Title I school, meaning many of its students come from economically disadvantaged households. Principal Cathie Seibert—an Army veteran who once drove tanks and rappelled down mountains—now channels that fearless leadership into building a strong school community and supporting students every step of the way. Through the BNI Foundation’s Business Voices initiative, the Smyrna Business Exchange is proud to stand beside her in helping every child rise to their potential.
