A reminder to Smyrna Vinings homeowners from ELM HVAC: Now is the
best time to test your heating system by turning it on. If it doesn't work, or if you smell anything funny, then set appointment with us now before the weather gets too warm and HVAC companies get slammed with repair appointments which means you may have to wait before someone can arrive.

Nestled within the heart of Smyrna Vinings, Mezza Luna stands as a testament to the love and passion for authentic Italian cuisine that has been passed down through generations. With a legacy spanning over a decade, Mezza Luna has not only brought traditional Italian dishes to the community but has also created a unique and intimate dining experience that captures the essence of Italy.
Eleven years ago, Antonio and Jafi Strangolagalli embarked on a culinary journey to share the flavors of their Italian heritage with the vibrant community of Smyrna/Vinings. Their dream culminated in the birth of Mezza Luna, a restaurant that has become synonymous with authenticity, warmth, and exquisite cuisine. Today, their legacy is carried forward by the next generation, as their son Anthony and chef Stefano Franciosi continues to nurture the culinary haven.
“Being a part of the growth and transformation of this wonderful community has always been our inspiration,” shares Anthony Strangolagalli. The Smyrna Vinings area has evolved significantly over the past decade, and Mezza Luna has been at the forefront of this evolution, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of local culture.
At Mezza Luna, the essence of Italy is not only found in the dishes served but also in the ambiance that envelops every diner. The concept of offering authentic and traditional Italian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere was born from the desire to share the Italian culture that the proprietors grew up with. The result is an environment that is both comfortable and unique, where guests are transported to a cozy trattoria in the heart of Italy.
Behind the scenes, the culinary magic is orchestrated executive chef, Stefano Franciosi, who studied at Ermenegildo Zegna Culinary School in Italy. Stefano honed his skills in prestigious locations across Switzerland, France, Monte Carlo, Miami, and now Smyrna, bringing the flavors of central and southern Italy to the forefront. His expertise shines through in dishes that pay homage to the rich culinary traditions of these regions. With a commitment to authenticity, Mezza Luna ensures that their dishes are prepared with respect to the ingredients and techniques unique to each area.
The secret to Mezza Luna’s exquisite dishes lies in the careful selection of ingredients. The restaurant places a strong emphasis on sourcing only the finest and most authentic ingredients, constantly researching and exploring to ensure that each ingredient upholds the highest quality. This commitment extends to using local and fresh produce, as well as seafood, to enhance their homemade pastas and elevate the overall dining experience.
Mezza Luna’s reputation for offering an intimate atmosphere is meticulously cultivated. A symphony of aromas fills the air, transporting guests to the heart of an Italian kitchen. Exceptional service and an extensive wine list further contribute to the unique ambiance, making every visit an experience to remember. The goal is simple: to represent a true Italian trattoria, where every detail speaks to the warmth and authenticity of Italian culture.
Preserving authentic Italian flavors while catering to the preferences of the local community is a delicate balance that Mezza Luna has mastered. The culinary team dedicates itself to bringing traditional flavors to life while also creating innovative dishes that excite the palate. This balance ensures that every guest, whether local or visitor, can savor a true Italian culinary journey.
Among the beloved dishes that have captured the hearts of locals and visitors alike, the Lasagna Bolognese stands out. A local favorite, this dish is a homage to the region’s culinary roots, prepared with the same love and care that Chef Stefano’s family used to lavish upon it. Additionally, the weekly dinner features offer a chance for guests to explore new culinary horizons and indulge in authentic Italian flavors.
No Italian dining experience is complete without the perfect wine pairing. Mezza Luna takes this to heart with their unique selection of wines curated by Wine Director Stefano Lepre. Their extensive collection caters to every palate and perfectly complements the diverse dishes on offer. From reds to whites, each bottle is chosen to elevate the dining experience and bring out the best in every dish.
The feedback received from customers holds a special place at Mezza Luna. It is not only valued but also serves as a guiding light for continuous improvement. Every piece of feedback is carefully considered, and the team works tirelessly to enhance every aspect of the restaurant. The warmth with which patrons recommend their “hidden gem” to friends and family reflects the lasting impression Mezza Luna leaves on its guests.
Introducing lesser-known Italian dishes to a local community can be a challenge, but Mezza
Luna has embraced it as an opportunity to educate and share their rich culture. The restaurant takes pride in educating patrons about the diverse culinary treasures that Italy has to offer. Through their weekly dinner features and exceptional wine pairings, Mezza Luna provides an immersive experience that transcends the plate.
From its inception, Mezza Luna has evolved from a warm family haven into a culinary destination that captures the heart of Italy. Anthony Strangolagalli and Stefano Franciosi’s commitment to providing an exceptional dining experience through hospitality, ambiance, cuisine, and culture shines through every dish served. As Mezza Luna continues to thrive, its legacy as a beacon of authenticity and excellence in Smyrna remains stronger than ever. Whether you’re a local seeking an intimate evening or a visitor wanting to experience the flavors of Italy, Mezza Luna stands ready to transport you on a delightful culinary journey.

As summer gives way to cooler temperatures and vibrant foliage, it’s time to refresh your front porch decor to welcome the beautiful season of fall. Nancy Martin, the passionate owner of the Gifting Tree & the Secret Garden in Smyrna (formerly known as Love Street), shares her insights on how to create an inviting and colorful fall porch that will impress your guests and neighbors.
SEASONAL PLANTS:
Nancy’s first piece of advice is to embrace the beauty of fall with seasonal plants. Whether your front porch gets full sun, part sun, or is mostly shaded, there are numerous plant options to choose from:
For Shade to Part Shade:
• Autumn Ferns: Known for their coppery-red new growth, these ferns add a warm autumnal feel.
• Heuchera: Available in various colors, Heuchera plants provide a pop of vibrancy.
• Creeping Fig, Jenny, or Purple Heart: These trailing plants offer a spilling effect in your pots.
• Pansies or Violas: Perfect for part-shade areas, these flowers come in a range of colors.
For Full Sun:
• Crotons: Known for their vibrant foliage, they thrive in containers and are adaptable to various light conditions.
• Winter Vegetables: Cabbage, Kale, and Swiss Chard provide colorful and interesting foliage.
• Pansies, Snapdragons, Violas, and Poppies: These flowers thrive in cold temperatures and bloom throughout the winter.
• Mums: Instantly add a burst of color to your porch, and they may come back in spring.
Nancy suggests creating pleasing color combinations, such as purple, green, and white, or orange, yellow, and red, to make your fall display truly eye-catching.
Georgia’s sun can be relentless even as fall arrives, so keeping your fall containers and beds well-watered is essential. Be vigilant when the temperature drops below freezing, as many fall plants are sensitive to frost. To ensure your plants continue to thrive and bloom throughout the winter, Nancy recommends using an all-purpose plant food once a month.
When it comes to decorating for fall, Nancy advises having fun and getting inspired. She recommends keeping your door color in mind to avoid clashing. Here are some decorating trends and tips to consider:
• Colorful Accents: Fall is all about vibrant and fun colors. Consider a colorful wreath, a welcoming fall porch sign, or a festive doormat. Pumpkins can also add an easy and colorful touch, and they can last through Thanksgiving if they don’t have carved faces.
• Lanterns: Get creative with lanterns by placing battery-operated candles or string lights inside, along with artificial fall foliage. You can easily switch out the foliage to match the season.
• Artificial Foliage: If you prefer low-maintenance decor, artificial foliage in baskets can be an excellent choice.
• Door Hangers: These can be a great alternative to wreaths, and some are two-sided, providing decor for multiple seasons.
• Alternative Color Schemes: If bright colors aren’t your style, consider a more subdued palette of purple, green, and white.
Decorating your front porch for fall is a wonderful way to embrace the season’s beauty and create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your home. So, get creative, have fun, and welcome fall with open arms and a beautifully decorated front porch.

The city’s growth has not come at the expense of its deeply rooted sense of community.
Indeed, Smyrna has made significant investments in community-oriented spaces. One such gem is the Village Green, which serves as the heart of the city. Here, you’ll find City Hall, the library, restaurants, shops, and a vibrant space for public events. The open green area and seating provide a common meeting ground for residents and visitors, fostering a sense of togetherness. For families with young children, a covered playground near the library offers a safe and fun place to play. Nearby, an arboretum and pond near the Community Center provide a tranquil retreat for nature lovers.
Smyrna, Georgia, affectionately referred to as the “Jonquil City” due to its abundant springtime blossoms, is a place where tradition and progress go hand in hand. Nestled in the heart of Cobb County, this charming city has evolved over the years into a vibrant community that values its small-town spirit while embracing exciting new developments.
Mark Owens, a resident of Smyrna, reflects on the town’s remarkable growth: “As a lifelong resident of Smyrna, it’s fun to watch our little town grow into a destination spot for families, businesses & entertainment. Personally, I’m most excited for the brewery to open. It will be a game-changer. I am still pleasantly shocked & amazed that we shut down Atlanta Road to host thousands of fans for a night of music & celebration. Credit to Mayor Norton & his staff for allowing Smyrna to keep the ‘small town’ feel while undertaking big city projects.”
Mark’s sentiments underscore Smyrna’s remarkable ability to strike a delicate balance between progress and its cherished small-town atmosphere.
The latest addition to Smyrna’s Village Green is a beautiful event green space and a walking trail, creating more opportunities for the community to come together. With plans for shaded areas, bistro tables, and a water feature with a reflecting pool, the park is set to become a cherished gathering place. Convenient parking is available at the Library and Community Center, ensuring easy access for all.
As the city gears up to celebrate its 151st Birthday Celebration and Culture and Spirit Festival, excitement is palpable among residents and visitors alike. Scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm, this year’s event promises to be even more spectacular than the last. Opening act, The Wallflowers, will take the stage at 7:00 pm, followed by headliners Goo Goo Dolls at 8:30 pm. And let’s not forget the special afternoon performance by 10,000 Maniacs at 4:30 pm at the new Village Green Park. The fireworks show at the end of the night is a spectacle not to be missed, capping off a day filled with music and celebration.
Allyson Campbell praises Smyrna’s focus on community and families: “We are so fortunate to live in Smyrna because of the focus on community and families. Between sports, concerts, and fun events, the city of Smyrna and the Norton administration have made Smyrna one of the best places to live in Georgia.”
Looking ahead to 2024, Smyrna residents can anticipate another exciting addition to the city’s parks—a splash pad at River Line Park. More information will be released as preparations for this fantastic new feature in Smyrna’s park system unfold. Stay tuned for updates on the Parks and Recreation and City of Smyrna Facebook pages.
Smyrna’s journey from a quaint town to a thriving community with a rich cultural and recreational scene stands as a testament to its unwavering dedication to progress while preserving its spirit of unity and togetherness. It’s a place where community and growth flourish together, creating a genuinely exceptional living experience.
Smyrna's 150th Birthday Celebration in 2022
In today’s fast-paced world, individuals are constantly faced with various challenges that can test their resilience. Whether it’s navigating through a demanding work environment, managing personal relationships, or dealing with unexpected setbacks, cultivating resilience is the key to not only surviving but thriving in this ever-changing landscape. Here are some tips for cultivating resilience:
▶ PRIORITIZE SELF-REFLECTION: Take time to reflect on your own needs, desires, and values. This will help you align your actions with your authentic self, rather than succumbing to societal pressures.
▶ PRACTICE SELF-COMPASSION: Be kind and forgiving towards yourself when faced with challenges. Acknowledge your own imperfections and treat yourself with the same care and understanding you would offer a loved one.
▶ DEVELOP A MINDFULNESS ROUTINE: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling. These practices can help you stay present, calm, and focused amidst external pressures.
▶ CHALLENGE SOCIETAL EXPECTATIONS: Question societal norms and expectations that don’t align with your values. Analyze the validity and impact of these pressures on your well-being, and actively choose to redefine them based on your own personal growth goals.
▶ REGULAR BREAKS: Take short breaks during the workday to stretch, go for a walk, or engage in activities that bring joy or relaxation. Taking breaks can help refresh the mind and increase productivity.
If stress, anxiety, or burnout have become unmanageable, our therapists at Summit’s Edge can provide guidance, support, and tools specific to your individual needs. Embracing mindfulness, self-care, and personal growth is a lifelong process. Consistently prioritizing your own well-being in the face of society pressures involves an openness to learning, adapting, and evolving. Be patient with yourself and embrace the journey.

One of my all-time favorite books to read to my daughters is the fictional book Anne of Green Gables. From the moment that Matthew Cuthbert makes Anne’s acquaintance at the train station, L.M. Montgomery beckons her readers to be as enchanted and smitten by the clever, fast-talking, red-headed little girl as he. In expressing her exuberance for autumn, Anne declares: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it?” Spiting the protest of her adopted mother Marilla, Ann proceeds to fill her bedroom with colorful maple branches. Marilla corrects Anne by telling her not to clutter her room with “out-of-doors stuff,” for bedrooms are made to sleep in. To which Anne quipped, “Oh, and dream in too, Marilla. And you know one can dream so much better in a room where there are pretty things.”
As we begin the month of October, I join with Montgomery and invite you to let it linger. Respectfully protest, with Anne, against the voices that keep autumn on the outside. Open the doors of your heart and mind to this colorful, refreshing season, and welcome it deep within.
The wise King Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 3:1: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” This masterpiece of
wisdom poetry brings into full focus the reality of human mortality. But even though winter is coming, it isn’t here yet. Let autumn awaken your senses to the brevity and urgency of life. Take the time to take in the beauty of fall foliage. Set aside life’s busyness long enough to breathe in the refreshment of the month’s cool air. Listen to Anne, and give yourself permission to not just sleep, but to dream. As you enjoy the shortening days of October, be reminded that for those who are found in Christ, the urgency of mortality will one day be replaced with a joy-filled existence that will never end. If you don’t have a church family, we’d love for you to join us this fall as we worship the One who created such vibrant, life-giving seasons. Let’s not skip this October. Let’s relish in it together.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
- Ecclesiastes 3:1
