s we approach the Holiday Season for 2016, there are so many things to be thankful. For one We are grateful that we are part of the San Clemente community now. It has been a dream for years to be able to move to “The Spanish Village by the Sea, ” and it is now a reality. Being able to be a part of creating San Clemente Lifestyle has given us the opportunity to do something we love as well as being a San Clemente resident. The magazine is a labor of love and community. Through the launching of our first issue December 2016, we have met some amazing people of this town. We have learned so much of the history and the stories of the families that have lived here for many years. The community is the focus of this publication as well as the stories of the residents. Local spotlights, recipes, DIY projects as well as covering all the wonderful organizations and charities we have in this city. In this issue, you will get an idea of what is to come in the future months. Casa Romantica hosts Toast to the Casa annually to raise funds for its year-round public cultural and education programs. The 2016 gala, called Gran Ballo Delle Maschere celebrated Italian culture and attracted 300 patrons. Food from 25 local restaurants live, and silent auctions, live bands, and an art exhibition made for a memorable evening.

with coffee and cake, decorating your home with colorful lights, caroling, telling classic Christmas stories, or perhaps celebrating on a day other than December 25th. Although there may be different traditions around the world, each culture has one thing in common, food. Food plays such an important role during the holidays, bringing friends and family together to celebrate and congregate. Here we take a look at some tasty holiday traditions from around the world.

Britain- Yorkshire Pudding Fun Fact: It is tradition to serve Christmas crackers to each guest on Christmas Day which is a small tube covered in foil and twisted at the ends to resemble a candy. Everybody crosses their arms and uses their right hand to pull the top of their neighborâ€™s cracker off. With a loud pop, you are given either a joke to read at the dinner table or a small gift and a paper crown that they wear throughout dinner. Everybody is a King on Christmas! Sizzling Shrimp Serves 8 As Part Of A Tapas Meal

The point of this dish is that the pan is served to the table and the

shrimp are served sizzling hot, hence their name. 1 lb raw jumbo shrimp, cleaned and deveined on both sides if necessary. 1 small fresh red chili 6 tbsp Spanish olive oil 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped 1/2 Spanish onion, sliced into thin pieces pinch of paprika salt crusty bread, to serve To prepare the shrimp, peel off their shells, leaving the tails intact. Using a sharp knife, make a shallow slit along the top and bottom of each shrimp, then pull out the dark vein and discard. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and dry well on paper towels. Cut the chilly in half lengthwise, remove the seeds and finely chop the flesh. It is important either to wear gloves or to wash your hands very thoroughly after chopping chilies, as their juices can cause irritation to sensitive skin, especially around the eyes, nose, or mouth. Whatever you do, do not rub your eyes after touching the cut flesh of the chili. Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy- bottom skillet until quite hot, then add the garlic and onions, and cook for 30 seconds. Add the shrimp, chili, paprika and a pinch of salt and cook for 2 - 3 minutes, until the shrimp turn pink. Serve the shrimp in the cooking skillet, still sizzling. Enjoy the bread to mop up the aromatic cooking oil.

Living in California, especially by the beach, it’s sometimes hard to get into the holiday mood with all the beautiful warm weather we experience. Here are some DIY ideas to make the scents in our home keep us in the holiday spirit all month long!

A NATURAL WAY TO HOLIDAY FRAGRANCES ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY GIA LUCIANO

1. Just a few squirts of Christmas Spray can immediately put you in the spirit. Dilute the following essential oils in 1 ¼ cups of water in a glass spray bottle: Pine – 4 drops, Mandarin – 2 drops, Cinnamon – 1 drop 2. Turn your plain old white votive candles into scented centerpieces without the toxic artificial fragrances from store-bought scented candles that fill the air. Use 1 drop of essential oil placed at the base of the wick. Use oils like Bay, Cinnamon, or Cedarwood. 3. Another lovely idea to bring in the holiday aroma is a centerpiece with oranges decorated with cloves. Cut orange into slices and blot with a baking roller to get rid of excess juice. Place slices on a baking sheet with cloves and put in the oven for 3 hours at 140°C (280°F). Use these in a bowl with a few small pine cones a couple of whole cinnamon sticks and 6 Star Anise. Now you have Holiday Potpourri 4. Infused fire logs- What better way to perfume your home and enjoy the comfort of a crackling fire. Put 1 drop of Sandalwood, Frankincense, Cypress, Cedarwood or Myrrh to the log. 5. Poo-Pourri Keep your bathroom smelling fresh for those holiday guests. With the holidays come more visitors than any other time of year. Why not have a bottle of your very own Poo-Pourri for your guest to use. Spray onto the water in the bowl before use. 4 oz spray bottle add: 2 oz. Distilled water, 1 oz. Aloe Vera Concentrate, 1 oz. Liquid castile soap, 25 drops Lemon essential oil, 15 drops peppermint essential oil, 12 drops Orange essential oil, 12 drops Lime essential oil. Shake well and place in clear view for guest to use. 30
