From Valentine’s and Galentine’s cel ebrations to wellness experiences, cultural gatherings, and Lunar New Year festivities, our cities come alive with opportunities to gather, support one another, and celebrate the businesses and leaders who make our community thrive. It’s a beautiful reminder that loving local isn’t just a theme—it’s a way of life.
Local businesses are more than storefronts; they are neighbors, dreamers, and families who invest their hearts into serving ours. In this issue, we are proud to highlight several extraordinary local partners who exemplify what it means to show up, give back, and lead with purpose.
You’ll meet the inspiring owner, Melissa, and her team at Fit Body Boot Camp Mission Viejo, where strength is built not just physically, but through encouragement, accountability, and community. Owners of Wise Choices Realty, Tom & Steve, remind us that home is more than an address—it’s where life unfolds, memories are made, and futures are built.
We are also honored to feature Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes, whose unwavering commitment to public safety and service continues to protect and uplift our cities. His leadership is a powerful reminder that loving where you live also means supporting those who dedicate their lives to keeping it safe.
February is also about self-love and confidence, and Bella Derm Aesthetics Med Spa, led by the beautiful and talented Daniela, embodies just that. With a thoughtful, personalized approach to aesthetics, Bella Derm helps clients look and feel their best—inside and out.
As you turn these pages, we hope you feel the pride, connection, and care that define our community. When you choose local, you choose authenticity, trust, and relationships that last far beyond a single transaction.
Thank you for being part of our community and for continuing to support the businesses and leaders who make these four cities we serve such a special place to call home.

An artful approach to aesthetic medicine rooted in restraint, integrity, and individuality.
MEDICAL AESTHETICS Unveiling the Unique Artistry of
“I STRUGGLED—BUT THAT STRUGGLE CONNECTED ME TO WHY I DO THIS WORK. IT GAVE ME GRATITUDE, STRENGTH, AND JOY.”
In Orange County, where the standard of beauty is revered, curated, and debated with discernment, Bella Derm emerges as a welcome counterpoint to the excesses prevalent in modern aesthetic culture.
Since opening its doors in June 2025 in Laguna Hills, Bella Derm has offered something of a rarity—restraint.
Founded by Board-Certified PA-C Daniela Pimentle, who partners with her husband, Chief Operating Officer David Pimentle, Bella Derm upholds a philosophy that elevates artistry above excess, integrity above trends, and enhancement above the erasure of one’s distinctive beauty.
Bella Derm specializes in both non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments, including neuromodulators such as Botox, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for skin and hair health, microneedling, and dermal fillers.
While these treatments are widely available, Bella Derm sets itself apart from other providers through the care with which each procedure is performed, and the discretion exercised in knowing when it is unnecessary.
“I believe that the least amount of work often creates the most beautiful result,” Daniela explains. “We are here to enhance what already exists, not to erase individuality or make everyone look the same.”
Among her favorite treatments is Botox, not for its popularity, but for its emotional impact on the recipient. The difference is often an impactful one, physically as well as psychologically.
Within a few weeks, patients feel refreshed, confident, and more like their authentic selves.
PRP and microneedling services follow closely behind in popularity, due to their regenerative benefits and keen ability to improve skin health from within.
Dermal fillers are offered as well, yet each is administered with meticulous care, ensuring results that enhance rather than overwhelm. “Overfilling has done real damage to this industry. It breaks my heart when I see people who no longer look like themselves.”
When it comes to their brand, Bella Derm intentionally avoids utilizing the term “med spa.”
Instead, the practice defines itself as an aesthetic medicine provider, a clinical, patient-focused discipline guided by medical ethics and artistic judgment.
Daniela’s years of experience working alongside a plastic surgeon in Newport Beach provided exceptional insight into surgical results and the possibilities of non-surgical treatments. “I know exactly what surgery can achieve and what injectables cannot. That allows me to be very honest with patients.”
Together, Daniela and her patients candidly discuss their goals, expectations, and limitations in a comprehensive consultation. If a desired outcome requires surgery or another specialist, she will refer patients appropriately.
Most importantly, there is no upselling, pressure, or rushed appointments, ensuring patients feel heard and valued.
Education is prioritized, questions are welcomed, and treatments are explained in clear, accessible language.
“MY
BELIEF IS THAT THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WORK OFTEN CREATES THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RESULT.”
“I want my patients to understand the good, the bad, and everything in between,” Daniela says. “Informed patients make empowered decisions.”
Daniela’s philosophy extends well beyond injectables. With an undergraduate degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge, and a Master’s degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California's Physician Assistant Program (MPAP), she brings both emotional intelligence and clinical expertise to her practice.
As a former personal trainer and lifelong wellness advocate, she believes that skin health is inseparable from overall health.
“You can’t just treat the surface. True beauty comes from how you take care of your body, your mind, and your soul.”
This holistic mindset is evident in Bella Derm’s guiding mantra: beauty from the inside out, approached through an artful and ethical lens.
Daniela’s path to Bella Derm was carved by resilience and unwavering dedication.
Born in Ecuador, she immigrated to the United States at 14 years old. Her mother, a teacher, made significant sacrifices to provide her daughters with a stellar education despite financial hardships.
Learning English, navigating a new culture, and paying her way through college shaped her work ethic and her humility.
Although she originally dreamed of becoming a physician, Daniela ultimately chose the physician assistant path, allowing her to practice medicine at a high level while maintaining balance and relatability with patients.
Scholarships, perseverance, and years of focused training culminated in a career she deeply respects. “I struggled—but that struggle connected me to why I do this work. It gave me gratitude, strength, and joy.”
In addition to a passion for her profession, Daniela’s partnership with her husband, David, a retired Los Angeles City Fire Department Captain/Paramedic, was also built with a purpose.
Their shared commitment to service, strong ethics, and a sense of community shaped the practice from its inception.
Designed as a sumptuous sanctuary, Bella Derm’s interior offers a refined escape from everyday stresses, allowing patients to unwind and rejuvenate their sense of spirit.
As Orange County’s vision of luxury continues to evolve, this practice stands out for its principled approach and understated elegance. For those seeking radiant results that still look like you, Bella Derm is an opulent oasis where medical aesthetics meets unparalleled artistry.

CHANGING LIVES
30 MINUTES AT A TIME
Step inside a space where commitment, community, and personal transformation come together. When busy mom and corporate professional Melissa Dehakiz first joined Fit Body Boot Camp, she was simply looking for an efficient workout that fit the rhythm of her day. What she discovered instead was a supportive environment that reshaped her outlook on fitness—and ultimately inspired an entirely new chapter of her life. Years later,
Melissa Dehakiz - Owner/CEO
she now owns Fit Body Boot Camp in Mission Viejo as its Owner and CEO, where she leads a team much like the one that once encouraged and inspired her. Together, they’ve cultivated an environment rooted in connection, motivation, and positive change.
Melissa often shares that she was once the “typical avatar” of Fit Body Boot Camp: a busy woman between 35 and 50 who had little time to prioritize herself. She understands firsthand how challenging it can be for moms and working professionals to carve out even half an hour of personal time. That’s why the thirty-minute model resonated with her so deeply—and why she is committed to making every minute inside the studio is meaningful and accessible.
Supporting her is Kelin, the studio’s Integrator, whose role blends coaching, administration, logistics, and community engagement. From partnering with local schools on youth fitness programs to representing the studio at community events, Kelin helps extend the mission far beyond the gym walls. As Melissa describes it, Kelin is the person who brings their shared vision to life—someone who steps in wherever needed, whether coaching on the floor, managing operations, or creating opportunities for families to connect with Fit Body Boot Camp. “She does everything,” she laughs. “Whatever we imagine, she’s the one who makes it happen.”
From the moment the doors open at 4:45 AM, the energy inside the gym reflects Melissa’s mission. Members are welcomed with genuine enthusiasm, creating a warm, uplifting atmosphere regardless of the hour. The team understands that walking into a gym can feel intimidating, yet they’ve created a space where progress is personal and celebrated at every stage. Each thirty-minute session is guided by two coaches—a Mic Coach and a Floor Coach—who work in tandem to motivate members while ensuring proper form. They’re known as Coaches, a title that represents their knowledge, commitment, and passion for creating the best 30 minutes of your day. They take the time to truly know every member. Melissa and her team have built a space where progress is personal and celebrated at every stage.
This environment welcomes individuals of all fitness levels, including those with physical limitations. Programs such as Fit Body Forever are thoughtfully designed for older adults, while the gym’s nutrition offerings— supported by an on-staff nutritionist and tools like the InBody Scanner—help members cultivate long-term, maintainable wellness. “We promote sustainable health,” Melissa explains, “not just aesthetics.”
The team fondly recalls moments that remind them why their work matters. They talk about the older woman who, after months of debilitating shoulder pain, lifted her arms overhead and surprised herself with tears. They celebrate members who no longer need blood pressure medication and smile at the videos parents send of children running their own “boot camps” at home, eager to imitate what they’ve seen. As Melissa puts it, “It’s therapy, but not the kind you do on a couch— the kind that heals you from the inside out.”
Their commitment extends beyond the gym walls. The Mission Viejo team frequently supports local initiatives—from participating in franchise-wide food drives to promoting school jog-a-thons, hosting donation-based yoga sessions, and partnering with the community organizations. Looking ahead, Melissa plans to expand youth fitness and nutritional education programs, continuing her dedication to shaping healthier futures.
No matter your age, experience, or physical ability, Fit Body Boot Camp offers a welcoming environment defined by encouragement and genuine connection. Melissa and her Coaches invite every member not only to work out, but to feel seen, supported, and empowered. Step into their community, nurture your well-being, and experience a half-hour session designed to be the most rewarding part of your day.

A FLAT-FEE DIFFERENCE: Service WITHOUT SACRIFICE
How
two Orange County Realtors are reshaping the home-selling experience with honesty and transparency.
“Your mother always told you to make wise choices.” For Orange County Realtors Tom Schulze and Steve Shadell, that phrase captures the foundation of their work. For Schulze specifically, those words became more than a familiar reminder—they shaped his professional philosophy. After more than 20 years in real estate, he noticed something troubling: families leaving the sale of their homes with less equity than they deserved. Traditional commissions were cutting into hard-earned value at the very moments people needed it most. Schulze believed there had to be a more respectful, transparent way to guide homeowners through one of life’s most significant financial transitions.
In 1999, he founded Wise Choices Realty—a company built on honesty, clarity, and genuine value. Not sales tactics. Not pressure. Simply a better way to help people make confident decisions about their homes and their futures.
Years later, when Shadell joined him, it wasn’t just a professional move—it was a natural alignment. He shared the same conviction that homeowners deserved more clarity, more support, and more fairness in the process. With 37 years of combined experience, Schulze and Shadell blended their expertise into a unified mission: to empower the people they serve. Their
philosophy is straightforward: full-service real estate should never come with a price tag that leaves clients feeling compromised. They envisioned a company where knowledge, service, and savings coexist—and where putting clients first is not a slogan, but a standard.
Buying or selling a home is rarely simple; it can be emotional, stressful, and overwhelming. Families must balance timelines, finances, logistics, and decisions about the future. Wise Choices Realty was created to ease that burden. Schulze and Shadell understand the process deeply—the excitement of a fresh start, the worry about making the right move, the pressure of handling details—and they also know that traditional models often fall short of delivering the full level of support clients expect.
“Good value is doing a job really well and charging less for that service,” they explain. Their flat-fee model reflects that belief, offering everything from professional photography and thoughtful marketing to transaction coordination and guidance from beginning to end. No surprises. No hidden fees. Just transparent, reliable service.
What they offer extends beyond real estate expertise—it’s reassurance and steadiness, guiding families through one of

life’s major transitions with greater clarity and less stress. “It’s not so much the mechanics,” they note. “It’s about guiding people through the process with the least amount of anxiety possible.” With open communication and genuine connection, Schulze and Shadell help clients move confidently from one chapter to the next.
Their support also extends to what clients can do with the equity they save. Those savings often go toward practical, high-impact updates: fresh paint, new carpeting, professional cleaning, landscaping, or staging. Simple improvements that elevate a home’s presentation—and give families a stronger financial start in their next residence.
Education is equally central to their mission. “If we’re strong enough to work with our clients and educate them,” they say, “we can make sure they’re getting top dollar.” For them, success is not measured by the number of homes sold, but by ensuring clients feel informed, empowered, and confident in their decisions.
Over the years, Schulze and Shadell have seen how thoughtful guidance can change the trajectory of a family’s future. A well-prepared home sale can mean the difference between barely breaking even and stepping into the next chapter with financial stability. They emphasize the importance of understanding true affordability, seeking real value rather than flashy promises, planning, and consulting a trusted professional early.
“It’s about guiding people through the process with the least amount of anxiety possible.”
Their approach also reflects a broader philosophy about community. Wise Choices Realty is not just about transactions—it’s about relationships. They believe that every client deserves to feel respected and supported, and that real estate should be a process rooted in trust. By prioritizing transparency and fairness, they have built a reputation that resonates with families across Orange County.
With decades of experience behind them, Schulze and Shadell continue to refine their model, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of homeowners. They remain committed to offering a service that is both elevated and accessible—one that combines professional expertise with genuine care.

The Heart of Public Service in Orange County
MEET YOUR ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF: DON BARNES
ARTICLE BY LAUREN LENYI PHOTOGRAPHY BY ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT
Orange County locals are familiar with the six-pointed sheriff’s star emblazoned on the distinctive patrol cars of the OC Sheriff’s Department. Deputies are a steady presence in our neighborhoods, keeping watch over the community and assisting those in need. While the department’s fundamental duties are widely recognized, the full scope of their work—the time, effort, human connection, and dedication behind the scenes—often goes unnoticed.
Recently, I sat down with Sheriff-Coroner Donald “Don” Barnes for a conversation that offered a closer look at both his approach to leadership and the wide-ranging responsibilities carried by the department.
Sheriff Barnes joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Department more than 36 years ago, steadily rising through the ranks, though he never initially aspired to lead the agency. His predecessor encouraged him to embrace the opportunity, recognizing his experience, knowledge, and distinguished leadership qualities. In November 2018, the county elected him, and in January 2019, Sheriff Barnes was officially sworn in as the SheriffCoroner of Orange County.
Throughout our conversation, Sheriff Barnes emphasized a few guiding principles: communal leadership, open communication, and humility. He described the department’s approach to developing leaders: “We give them the tools to do the job, train them to do the job, and trust them to do the job.” He explained how peerto-peer communication helps keep the department grounded and connected, fostering genuine leadership that opens doors for others and instills confidence as they step forward.
To him, humility and communal leadership are collective efforts—built on listening, showing respect, and working for the good of the team rather than personal recognition. “When I speak,” the Sheriff stated, “the pool of ideas stops—so I listen. My job is to create an environment for others to succeed.” His appreciation for his staff was evident as he credited all who serve within the
Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Office: “We’ve turned a corner—not because of me, but because of the people I’m privileged to work with every day.”
Sheriff Barnes’ devotion to developing his team and nurturing a culture of responsibility extends beyond internal leadership. That same dedication drives his efforts to enhance public safety. He is overseeing the development of a tactical training facility with a modular design for active-shooter, crisis, and multi-agency training. Once completed, the facility will be available not only to his team but also to regional partners and academy recruits— an investment in shared community safety.
He has also taken meaningful steps to modernize the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Jail, focusing on the mental and physical well-being of those in its care. Each year, the jail invests millions of dollars in treatment programs designed to help stabilize individuals living with mental illness or substance use disorders. As Sheriff Barnes explained with conviction, “If we’re going to be a mental health jail, we’re going to be the best mental health jail we can be.”
Additionally, recognizing the needs of the community members who are often overlooked, the department launched the Six Points for Kids program to support children and teens throughout Orange County. Through partnerships with local charities and fundraising events, the program provides young people with resources and encouragement to thrive. Barnes also supports nonprofit organizations such as the Special Olympics and Laura’s House, both dedicated to promoting inclusion and safety within the community.
From my time with Sheriff Barnes, it is clear that his commitment to community-based policing, leadership development, and public health is both strong and continually evolving to meet the demands of today. While he continues to work diligently to improve the lives of Orange County residents, he shares a simple reminder: “Service is at the core of everything we do—in or out of uniform.”
“The outcome is what matters — safe communities, not popularity.”
