My Mission: Homes With Heart

The Love Local Issue

February is the perfect time to reflect on what it truly means to love where we live. For us, loving local means championing the small businesses, families, artists, and service providers who shape the heartbeat of Roswell every single day. At the heart of this issue is the power of storytelling through music. We’re honored to spotlight Top 5 American Idol alumnus Slater Nalley, a South Georgia native whose journey reminds us that art often begins in the most unexpected places. What started as a simple invitation from his English teacher to write a poem became something far more profound—a song written in memory of her late son. It’s a moving testament to how grief, friendship, and creativity can intersect to create something meaningful.
As we continue to celebrate love and local this month take a peek into some great love stories we have, read about how 2 young couples are supporting business with relationships and and our very own staff writer, Wendy Edwards and her husband whose quest for adventures has brought them meaning together.
We are excited to share our community leaders and their passion about why they love Roswell on page 40.
As always please continue to support our Roswell local businesses and we will see you around our town soon!
Cheers to LOVE

Young, Driven, and All In
At 25, two couples merge love, labor, and a thriving plumbing company for the future
Ryan and Jeremy met during a pivotal chapter in both of their lives—a season defined by rebuilding, self-reflection, and a shared determination to create something better for their futures. What began as a supportive friendship quickly evolved into a deep bond rooted in accountability, trust, and ambition. Early on, they recognized that they shared the same values: a strong work ethic, integrity, and a desire to build meaningful lives through honest work. That connection would soon become the foundation not only of their friendship, but of a business built from the ground up.
Both men knew they wanted careers that were hands-on, purposeful, and offered the opportunity to build something of their own. Shortly after they met, Jeremy introduced Ryan to the plumbing trade—showing him the ropes, or rather, the pipes. What started as learning a skilled trade quickly became a shared vision. Plumbing offered the chance to serve the community, create stability, and take pride in work done right. Starting young gave them the motivation to grow together, learn fast, and establish a company rooted in reliability, honesty, and craftsmanship.
While their professional partnership was taking shape, their personal lives were growing just as meaningfully. Ryan met his fiancée, Megan, through mutual friends, and from the start, the connection felt effortless. There was an immediate comfort and alignment in values that made their relationship stand out. Ryan balances his role as a plumber and business owner with Megan’s work as a

continued care coordinator at Southern Live Oak Wellness, where she supports individuals on their own journeys toward stability and growth. Megan is also pursuing a psychology degree at Georgia State University—an extension of her passion for helping others.
For Megan, it became clear that their relationship could grow into marriage when she saw how Ryan handled responsibility and challenge—with consistency, intention, and care. Together, their long-term goals center on building a loving home, supporting one another’s careers, and creating a future grounded in trust, growth, and shared purpose.
Jeremy’s love story began in a very different setting—but with the same sense of certainty. He met his fiancée, Joell Ashcraft, at a music festival, surrounded by noise, energy, and crowds. Yet when they began talking, everything else faded away. Their connection was instant and genuine, marked by laughter, ease, and a feeling that something important was unfolding. Joell, a geologist, brings

curiosity, intelligence, and a grounded perspective to their relationship— qualities Jeremy deeply admires.
Jeremy realized their relationship was meant for marriage as it matured into something steady and intentional. Together, they envision a future filled with shared experiences— traveling, exploring new cultures, and building a big family full of love, laughter, and animals. Their partnership is rooted in balance: Joell’s thoughtful, analytical approach complements Jeremy’s leadership, decisiveness, and hands-on drive. At home and in business, they support one another through open communication and mutual respect.
That same balance defines Ryan and Jeremy’s dynamic as business partners. Ryan is people-focused, deeply invested in relationships and

team culture, while Jeremy brings energy, momentum, and a forward-driving mindset. Their bond is brother-like—built on honesty, trust, and the willingness to challenge one another when needed. Disagreements happen, but they’re always rooted in shared goals and respect, allowing them to resolve issues quickly and move forward stronger.
Building a business from the ground up hasn’t come without challenges. Long hours, financial pressure, and constant learning have tested them along the way. Through it all, the support of their fiancées has been essential—providing perspective, encouragement, and reminders of why they started in the first place. Together, they celebrate progress over perfection and growth over shortcuts.
Looking ahead, what excites all four of them most is building something meaningful—both personally and professionally. Growing side by side as friends, partners, and future spouses has created a foundation rooted in teamwork and resilience. Their shared journey is about more than plumbing or profit; it’s about building lives, relationships, and a business that reflects who they are and what they believe in. And that shared purpose is what makes their future—together—so powerful.

HIS WATCH, HER STRENGTH

AFTER LOSING HER HUSBAND IN THE LINE OF DUTY, ALYSSA LABONTE TURNS GRIEF INTO STRENGTH AND REMEMBRANCE THROUGH COMMUNITY AND PURPOSE.
Some love stories start later in life. Others begin much earlier. For Alyssa (Porter) Labonte, it all began in elementary school.
“Jeremy and I met in the 5th grade when I started going to the same school as him. By the 7th grade, he asked me to be his girlfriend and we were inseparable for all the years following that. He was my safe place, my biggest cheerleader, and the person who made the world feel lighter just by being in it. He wasn’t just someone I loved, he was home to me.”
That same steady presence followed Jeremy into adulthood and into his career as a Roswell police officer, where he served with deep care for

others. “Jeremy lived with purpose. He led with integrity, served with humility, and loved people with his whole heart. He was steady, kind, genuinely funny, and the person everyone could depend on whether you knew him for ten years or ten minutes. His life made others feel seen, safe, and valued.”
In February 2025, Alyssa’s world changed when her husband, a Roswell police officer, passed away in the line of duty.
“That night is something etched into me forever. I remember feeling every emotion: shock, disbelief, and the way time seemed to stop. My world flipped upside down in a moment. The weight of it was unbearable and I genuinely thought I would die from a broken heart. Reflecting on the hardest night of my life, what I remember most is how deeply he was loved.”
In the days that followed, care and encouragement surrounded Alyssa.
“The Roswell community stepped in in ways I never would’ve imagined. They honored Jeremy not just with words, but with action.”
Today, she carries him forward with quiet strength.
“I feel peace knowing that he lived a life he was proud of.”
In August 2026, the annual memorial walk themed “His Watch Ended, Our Walk Begins” will once again bring people together to honor a life of service, love, and lasting impact.

A MUTUAL Love Affair WITH ROSWELL
Meet Your Neighbors: Matthew and Lindsey Bowling
A chance encounter at a Georgia Tech fraternity party on Super Bowl Sunday 2016 would evolve into a stirring romance that continues to unfold for two relatively new Roswell neighbors –Matthew and Lindsey Bowling.
“I was standing with a friend in our house’s grand room when this beautiful girl walked in with her friends for the party,” recalled Matthew. “For me, it truly was love at first sight, but Lindsey didn’t feel the exact same way at first. She played hard to get and even turned me down when I asked for her phone number that night!
Fortunately, I was persistent and eventually got her number at a future event. Thankfully, I texted her on her birthday, which is Valentine’s Day, and from there, the rest is history.”
After marrying on September 9, 2023, the newlyweds made their home in Roswell. With a short walk to the shops and restaurants that line Canton Street, they loved the town so much that they overlooked Matthew’s long daily commute to work and Lindsey’s monthly out-of-town travels to visit clients as part of her role as a Senior Marketing Consultant for KPMG US. After their morning coffee and a quick kiss goodbye, Matthew drives the 35-mile trek to the gates of Lanier Islands Resort, where he serves as President for the lakeside destination.
Matthew has had solid ties to Lanier Islands Resort since he was just 8 years old, when his family led by Virgil R. Williams purchased the leasehold on the property from the state of Georgia. Since then, the resort has grown to contribute over $100M annually to the Peach State’s economy and draws one million people to the lake’s shores. As a child, he grew up around the resort with his family, and as a teen, he worked at the waterpark and golf course.
After attending Tech where he studied business and met his bride, the two said their “I Dos” at the resort’s stunning Peachtree Falls outdoor wedding venue. Before that, Matthew attended Law School at Georgia State University, then interned in the Office of the Speaker and the Office of the Governor, while Lindsey interned for Atlanta-based Spanx. While their careers are important to this young couple, the time they spend feathering their nest, taking their adorable four-legged family members Max and Honey on walks down Mimosa Boulevard, and exploring the sidewalk lined streets of their new hometown is “the sweet spot.”
“We’ve become huge fans of the lifestyle in Roswell,” added Matthew. “I’m a major history buff, so I especially love the charm, character, antebellum architecture, and historic significance of the area. My grandparents lived and worked in Roswell for many years. My grandmother cherished her time at

Roswell United Methodist. The people are friendly, everyone seems to have dogs, and it’s one of the best cities imaginable for long walks along the Chattahoochee River and great food with all the incredible restaurant options. It also seems like a great place to raise a family…which is definitely next on the goal list!”
Don’t be surprised if you run into Matthew and Lindsey dining at Ippolito’s, Little Alley Steakhouse, Proper Hop Taphouse, Summit Coffee, and Monkey 68 Sushi. You can also find them playing fetch with Max and Honey in the field next to Roswell Baptist Church, braving the Roswell Ghost Tour each Halloween, or singing karaoke.

A VOICE THAT HEALS, A STORY THAT RESONATES
Before he ever stepped onto the American Idol stage, Slater Nalley sat across from his teacher with a song that helped her grieve, remember, and breathe again. That moment changed everything.
SLATER NALLEY
Raised just outside of Atlanta with three younger sisters, Slater found comfort at his family’s property in South Georgia. That is where he would hunt, fish, ride horses, and talk about life with his dad. In those quiet moments surrounded by red clay and wide open sky, he could imagine a future that made sense, even if others could not see it yet.
When Slater’s high school English teacher, Michelle Davis, lost her son Carter and his friend Natalie Henderson, she wrote something deeply personal and shared it with him. “When I asked Slater how he takes a poem and turns it into a song, I never imagined he would have interest in working on it and make it his own...all honoring Carter.”
Slater did more than simply turn words into lyrics. He listened, felt, and crafted Traces of You.
“To have my son live on in song is a priceless gift, one that breathes such joy in a place that is so sad. My family is eternally grateful,” Michelle shares.
ARTICLE
Music had always been part of Slater’s life, but it was never just a hobby. It was how he processed what it meant to be different, how he found purpose, and how he learned to stay grounded in who he was. While his peers were focused on sports, Slater was drawn to musicals, songwriting, and learning piano by ear. Being different was not always easy, but he kept showing up for the parts of himself that felt most true.
“I’ve had some really tough times that many of my peers don’t know about. Ones where I questioned a lot of things in life like what my purpose was and things no kid should really feel,” Slater admits. “I want my music to spread happiness, but have room for tears, too.” His goal is to put songs into the world that say, “Hey, you are not alone.”
She believed the message could resonate with others. “I imagined that anyone who had lost someone…whether they’ve passed or not, but a person no longer in their life, could relate to this song because we often search for those little fingerprints our loved ones left behind.”
Michelle is part of a group called Warrior Moms, bonded by loss and strengthened by faith. Their message is simple. Grieve like a mother. Survive like a warrior.
Healing also happens in quiet spaces. At Roswell Area Park on Woodstock Road, there is a memorial bench created to honor Carter and Natalie.
Michelle says, “In these spaces, we connect to our kids and pray for comfort. And like Slater’s lyrics, anyone sitting on this bench or listening to ‘Traces of You’ hopefully believes this to be true: ‘everytime I see a bird fly by, I’m

reminded that you’re answering our prayers’ and for me...it is everything.”
Moments like these shaped Slater’s understanding of what music can do. It is not just about performing. It is about connecting.
As he continued writing, Slater started sharing songs online. One of his videos reached more than five million views. That opened doors, but it is the people behind the songs that keep him grounded.
In 2024, he earned a Top 5 spot on American Idol. His sound, influenced by Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and John Prine, felt familiar yet fresh. His voice, soulful and raspy, seemed older than his years. That authenticity captured national attention.
He is now signed with Warner Music Nashville and Play It Again Music, the label founded by hit songwriter Dallas Davidson.
His first release, Foolish Pride, a song he wrote at just 15, is raw, emotional, and honest. It explores what it means to face your own flaws, to understand the part you play in heartbreak, and to be brave enough to admit it.
“At the end of the day, I am thankful to be here,” Slater says. “I am thankful that God has put me here and I am thankful that I have been in such a fortunate situation to pursue what I love to do, and I’ve met the right people.”
His story is not about chasing fame. It is about choosing purpose. And sometimes, that starts with one song and the courage to share it.

LEADING WITH THEIR HEARTS AND WHY THEY SERVE
ROSWELL’S NEWLY ELECTED LEADERS SHARE THEIR VISION, PURPOSE AND PASSION AND WHAT MAKES ROSWELL HOME
ARTICLE BY ROSWELL CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF

and Mary Robichaux
among residents to “pay it forward,” strengthens my faith not only in the people of Roswell but also in the city’s future. The second reward comes from seeing real, tangible improvements in people’s lives. Changes that often go beyond addressing immediate needs, but instead create lasting, life-changing outcomes.
Mary believes Roswell offers so much to love, from its natural beauty—rivers, streams, and urban forests—to the rich history shaped by those who founded and built the city. Its strong family focus is reflected in outstanding parks, recreation facilities, and community events that offer something for everyone. What stands out most to her is the way residents who choose Roswell don’t just live here, but they engage, contribute, and help strengthen the fabric of the city as it continues to grow.
For Mary, time in community is often spent supporting family-focused volunteer organizations and exploring Roswell’s many restaurants and local venues. Visits from her granddaughters are filled with the simple joys of playing at parks, playgrounds, and walking along riverfront trails.
Looking ahead, shaping Roswell’s future is especially energizing to Mary. The opportunity to help guide the city comes with a strong sense of responsibility to honor and preserve Roswell’s unique history while encouraging thoughtful, sustainable growth that welcomes young families into the community. Protecting and restoring the natural environment remains a top priority, ensuring that what makes Roswell special today endures for generations to come.
After more than 30 years of calling Roswell home, Mary Robichaux has a sense of gratitude that has shaped a lifelong commitment to giving back. The city has brought countless blessings to her family life, and with that came a belief in returning opportunities to others. Over the years, her commitment has come through involvement with nonprofit organizations that support children, adolescents, and adults. Being able to serve in a broader public capacity at the state level and now as Mayor of Roswell she pursues with intention. "Public service has made it possible to help people in ways that would never have been possible otherwise, she says, and that impact continues to be deeply meaningful ". Two powerful rewards come from serving others Mary says.
The first is witnessing the strong sense of community that emerges when people come together with a shared purpose. Seeing a consistent willingness
Her inspiration comes from the people. Conversations with residents who deeply love their city and want to work together for the greater good are constant reminders of what makes community strong. Young students leading charity projects, parents volunteering, seniors stepping up, and business owners supporting causes all reflect the generous, caring heart of Roswell.
Mary's motivation comes from her belief that individual actions can make life a little better for others. While it’s not always easy to know when meaningful change has been made, moments when people share how their lives have improved because of that work are profoundly motivating. That sense of impact continues to drive her lifelong commitment to service.
Rory
After moving to Roswell in 2007, for Jennifer Phillipi what began as a search for a place to live quickly became a lifelong connection to a community. Raising a family, watching her children grow through Recreation and Parks programs with her husband coaching on the sidelines, and forming deep friendships through the congregation at UUMAN has created a profound sense of belonging. Jennifer came to a realization that this connection, combined with her years of professional experience, could help shape the city’s future. "Roswell isn’t just home she says, it’s a place deeply woven into family life and identity".
Serving others brings her refreshed energy. With over 20 years in the same industry, engaging with residents offers new perspectives and challenges unlike those she faces as COO. From coffee conversations to learning the inner workings of the city, from fire stations and parks to budgets and infrastructure, each day is guaranteed to bring something different. Helping a resident navigate zoning one day, discussing environmental policy the next, and exploring long-term planning after will make work dynamic and deeply rewarding for Jennifer. Hearing from a wide range of voices, young families, longtime residents, business owners, and retirees can add meaning and momentum to her every interaction.
What stands out most about Roswell to her is its people and trees. The city’s commitment to preserving green space and tree canopy has created an exceptional network of parks and trails that feel both restorative and welcoming, these spaces showcase Roswell at its best: families biking, neighbors walking dogs, and children playing freely.
Jennifer spends her time in community often attending services at UUMAN, walking rescue greyhounds and participating in Keep Roswell Beautiful events. Jennifer has a passion for native plants, environmental stewardship, and a growing desire to spend more time on the Chattahoochee, particularly paddle boarding. She says this gives her deeper appreciation of the city’s natural resources. With work, family, and council responsibilities now, there’s a conscious effort to make time to fully enjoy all Roswell has to offer.
Local projects that foster connection and sustainability are especially motivating and exciting to her.

Growing interfaith collaborations such as the recent groundbreaking of the Roswell Community Masjid and its Vision 99 environmental initiative reflect her shared community values. Thoughtful development that balances growth with preservation is also deeply important, as are initiatives that encourage residents to engage with nature, parks, trails, and native plant programs.
Her Motivation ultimately comes from family, especially children who grew up in Roswell and now carry those experiences into adulthood. There’s a strong desire to ensure future families enjoy the same opportunities: strong schools, safe neighborhoods, beautiful parks, and a responsive local government. Raised by a hardworking single mother and having built a life through dedication and perseverance, Jennifer has a deep commitment to keeping Roswell a place where families of all backgrounds can plant roots, feel supported, and truly thrive.
Kyson, Jennifer, Kyra and Kyle Phillipi

Chris Zack moved to Roswell during the COVID era, when much of the community felt closed off, he stepped into the role of IT Director and it became a meaningful way to connect. This job offered a firsthand look at how City Council decisions impact residents’ everyday lives and inspired a desire to contribute his professional skills toward improving how the city operates. That motivation deepened for him even further with parenthood. Now, driven by the hope of helping build a community where his son can grow up proud and be supported.
Chris feels that at the heart of serving others is a commitment to listening. he says, "Taking the time to understand different perspectives and helping clarify them allows people to work together more effectively and move important issues forward".
“TAKING THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND HELPING CLARIFY THEM ALLOWS PEOPLE TO WORK TOGETHER MORE EFFECTIVELY AND MOVE IMPORTANT ISSUES FORWARD”.
What stands out most about Roswell to him is its access to nature. The river and surrounding green spaces offer an incredible quality of life, with multiple parks just minutes away. For Chris and his family this is perfect for a game of disc golf, a stroll to the playground, or simply enjoying time outdoors.
Chris spends time in community close to home, focused on family and making the most of Roswell’s parks, trails, and river. Supporting some of the city’s lesser-known local restaurants is another favorite way he stays connected.
Local efforts that protect the river and support organizations like the Atlanta Humane Society are especially meaningful to Chris. Both family dogs were adopted through the organization and have become cherished companions. His motivation comes from gratitude and perspective. Being in a good place in life brings a sense of responsibility he feels to give back, contribute where possible, and use the opportunities available to make a positive difference.

Giving back has always been a natural part of life for Eren Brumley, beginning as what’s affectionately described as a “serial volunteer.” It started when her children entered school, she got involved in PTAs, scouting, sports programs, and the neighborhood HOA. Over time, that circle expanded into civic organizations and nonprofits, driven by a genuine love for community connection. She says, volunteering became not only a way to support meaningful causes, but also a way to meet my neighbors, build friendships, and take part in events that bring people together for good".
After moving to Roswell in 1995 Eren, as the only member of her family in the area, said Roswell's welcoming spirit made an immediate and lasting impression. The kindness and openness of people created a sense of belonging that felt like home to her, and that experience continues to inspire a desire to ensure
others feel just as welcomed. Giving back is, in many ways, a way of paying forward the warmth she once received.
What stands out most about Roswell to her is its river and its people. The riverwalk and surrounding parks offer spaces where families like her own can slow down and enjoy life. Complementing those natural treasures she boasts is a thriving local business scene, filled with innovative shops, restaurants, breweries, and service providers that add character and creativity to the Roswell community.
Eren's free time is often spent exploring these local restaurants and shops, walking or biking along the Riverwalk, and attending music and art events that showcase the city’s vibrant culture. She says, "these everyday moments reflect what makes the community feel alive and connected".
Supporting nonprofits is especially energizing to her. Having participated in numerous fundraisers and events over the years, there’s excitement about becoming even more involved, armed with new resources, connections, and opportunities to make a greater impact. What keeps her motivation strong is the response from the community itself. Hearing how an idea, project, or effort helped someone serves as a powerful reminder that even small steps can lead to meaningful change, one person at a time.

Where Hormones Meet Heart Healing

Dr. Piasta
Dr. Jackie Piasta and her RN Megan Bohrer
Founded by Dr. Jackie Piasta, Doctor of Nursing Practice and nationally recognized Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Monarch Health is redefining what midlife healthcare can and should look like. The practice delivers personalized, science-driven care for individuals navigating perimenopause, menopause, and other midlife health transitions through a modern direct-care model.
Today, Dr. Piasta welcomes patients into a newly opened practice thoughtfully designed to support women and men through the complexities of midlife. From hormonal and metabolic health to sexual health, Monarch Health provides individualized care with clinical precision in a calm, intentional environment.
Below, Jackie shares how she built Monarch Health as a place where evidence-based healthcare, time, and setting work together to support long-term healthspan.
Monarch Health takes a comprehensive view of midlife health. What led you to build a practice around this model?
For years, I saw patients dismissed or fragmented across specialties—sleep issues sent one direction, mood another, weight gain another—without anyone addressing the common underlying drivers. Midlife is a period of profound physiologic change, and hormones play a central role, but they don’t exist in a vacuum.
I wanted to create a practice that treats the whole clinical picture, using time, education, and individualized care to actually help patients understand what’s happening in their bodies and what we can do about it
Many patients arrive feeling frustrated or unheard. How do you approach those concerns differently?
The biggest difference is time and what we do with it. Our direct-care model allows for longer visits and ongoing access, which means we can move beyond quick fixes and really partner with patients.
We focus on education, shared decision-making, and thoughtful treatment planning. When patients understand why something is happening and how their care plan supports both short- and long-term health, it changes everything.
Why is this integrated approach of addressing hormones, metabolism, and sexual health together so important?
Hormones influence nearly every system in the body—energy, sleep, body composition, mood, cardiovascular health, bone density, and sexual wellness. Treating one area without considering the others often leads to incomplete or temporary results.
By integrating hormone therapy, metabolic health, nutrition, and sexual health when appropriate, we’re able to deliver care that is both more effective and more sustainable over time.
Conversations around sexual health and midlife changes are often avoided in traditional care. How do you handle these topics at Monarch?
We treat them as what they are: normal, medical concerns that deserve the same attention as any other aspect of health. Creating a safe, judgment-free environment allows patients to ask questions they’ve often been carrying for years.
When clinicians are comfortable, informed, and evidence-based in these discussions, patients feel empowered rather than embarrassed—and that leads to better outcomes.
Monarch Health offers services ranging from hormone therapy to metabolic care and IV therapies. How do you determine what’s appropriate for each patient?
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to midlife health. Every plan begins with a thorough clinical assessment, evidence-based guidelines, and a patient’s individual goals and risk factors.
Some patients benefit from hormone therapy. Others need metabolic optimization, sleep support, or targeted nutritional strategies. Our role is to guide—not dictate—care, using science and clinical judgment to personalize each plan.
What changes do you see when patients finally receive this level of care?
Patients often tell me they feel like themselves again clearer, stronger, more confident in their bodies and decisions. But just as importantly, they feel informed and in control of their health.
That sense of agency is powerful. Midlife isn’t about decline, it’s an opportunity to recalibrate and invest in long-term wellbeing with intention and support.
Setting a New Standard for Midlife Healthcare
Monarch Health combines modern direct care, evidence-based medicine, and individualized support to deliver a higher standard of midlife healthcare—one that prioritizes time, access, and thoughtful partnership.
This is not trend-driven wellness. It’s informed, strategic care designed to help patients thrive now and protect their health for decades to come.

HOW ONE PAINTING COMPANY PUTS HEART INTO EVERY JOB
A FAMILY AFFAIR
We spoke with Charlie Dallavale Jr., president of Painting Plus, to learn about why the company remains one of North Atlanta’s top general contractors.
CAN YOU SHARE MORE ABOUT A PROJECT, TEACHER, OR MENTOR THAT SOLIDIFIED YOUR CAREER PATH?
My grandfather was a siding contractor, so it started with the family. I did learn a lot of it through Walton High School's building construction program. Bob Overstreet was the shop teacher. We used to build kids' play forts and sheds, then sell them to a third-party company.
TELL US ABOUT A RECENT PROJECT YOU’RE PROUD OF. WHY DOES THAT PROJECT STAND OUT TO YOU?
We just wrapped up a really special project in North Atlanta. The homeowners felt the exterior was dated and didn’t reflect the way they used the space. They wanted something more inviting and cohesive, especially in the backyard. We installed a brand-new roof and gutter system, replaced the siding, and coated the existing brick with Romabio masonry coating to give it a more natural finish. From there, we focused on outdoor

living. We extended the back porch, built a screen room, added a glass sunroom, and created a new fireplace and seating area. It’s a place where you can have coffee, host gatherings, or sit around a fire on a cool night. It completely changed how the family lives in the house.
HOW DOES PAINTING PLUS STAND OUT FROM OTHER GENERAL CONTRACTORS?
We treat our clients’ homes as if they were our own personal property. What I would do for a relative, I'm going to do for a paying client. I'm very tight with my money, and I try to stay tight with their money too.
PAINTING PLUS HAS RECEIVED JAMES HARDIE’S PRESIDENT’S CLUB AWARD EVERY YEAR SINCE 2015. WHAT’S THE KEY TO DELIVERING EXCEPTIONAL RESULTS YEAR AFTER YEAR?
We’ve built a close-knit team that’s been together for years, and everyone takes pride in doing things the right way. They care about their reputation just as much as I do. We also follow the James Hardie specifications and ensure every detail meets their standards. On top of that, we communicate. We go over the project with the homeowner at the beginning, during, and at the end.
If something needs to be improved, we fix it before we leave. We treat the home like it’s our own and treat the client like family.
WHAT TOOLS OR PRODUCTS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
I’m excited about the James Hardie TimberHue collection. It gives homeowners the look of natural-stained wood siding, but without the maintenance of real wood. Anyone who has owned a real wood exterior in Georgia knows that between humidity, sun exposure, and carpenter bees, you’re constantly repairing, re-staining, and replacing boards. TimberHue solves that. It’s a fiber cement siding that’s pre-finished with a wood-grain stain appearance, so you get the character and depth of real wood. It doesn’t fade like a traditional stain, warp, rot, or attract insects.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO WORK WITH FAMILY?
One thing I’m most grateful for in this business is the fact that I’ve been able to build it alongside the people closest to me. Not everyone gets that opportunity, and I don’t take it for granted. I’ve been working with my dad for more than 17 years, my brother for 15, and my best friend for 27. Working with family changes the way you approach a job. When your dad, brother, and closest friend are there with you, you don’t cut corners, because you’d be letting down the people who helped you get there.
ARE THERE ANY HOLIDAY TRADITIONS YOU FOLLOW?
We host a company Christmas lunch for everyone. At home, holidays are a big deal for us, too. My dad, brother, and I have kept a lot of the same traditions from when we were kids. We get together, cook, and swap gifts, but really, it’s about being in the same room the same way we are at work. paintingplus.com

LOV E SHAPED THEM, ADVENTURE CARRIED THEM, AND CREATIVITY CONTINUES TO DEFINE ACOUSTIC HONEY’S JOURNEY.
ARTICLE BY ROSWELL CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF
LOVE LOCAL

Life is not meant to be all figured out in your twenties. We chase dreams, stumble, find our footing and learn, slowly, who we are and what matters. Somewhere along that winding journey, if we’re fortunate, we land rooted in purpose, love and a spark that makes life feel extraordinary. For Mike and Wendy Edwards of Acoustic Honey, that’s exactly how their story unfolded.
Mike and Wendy Edwards
“REBRANDED AS ACOUSTIC HONEY, THEY’RE NOW POURING HEART, FUN, AND CREATIVE ENERGY INTO EVERY PERFORMANCE AS THEY PLAY BELOVED HITS FROM EVERY ERA AROUND THE ATLANTA AREA.”
The Edwards family

Their soundtrack began in the mid-90s with Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” echoing through a lively Italian restaurant in Alpharetta. By day, they powered through college with Wendy polishing her communication skills while Mike studied sports medicine. By night, they served endless salads, laughed with coworkers and quietly fell deeper in love. Through it all, music would beat steadily at the heart of their relationship.
Mike wasn’t just dabbling in music, he was immersed in it. His band kept Buckhead alive night after night and he spent weekends packing college towns until sunrise, even releasing an LP in 1999. Soon, Mike and Wendy would perform together in a band for the first time. Mike would perform amazing solos as lead guitar and Wendy’s harmonies would light up venues like Smith’s Old Bar during the buzzing era that launched artists like John Mayer and Shawn Mullins. “Looking back, it really was quite a magical time for music in Atlanta,” Mike recalls.
As life evolved and the couple married, Wendy thrived in real estate while they poured their creativity into building and renovating homes, a path that ultimately led them back to Roswell in 2007. Now with three kids and Mike’s constant travel for work, the family made a bold choice. Instead of letting life pull them apart, they would take it on the road. For seven unforgettable years, they lived, worked, learned, and explored in an RV, crossing the country 31 times, visiting 43 states, and soaking in the beauty of America’s national parks. Through it all, Mike’s guitar traveled with them, gathering strangers around campfires and filling quiet nights with music beneath open skies.
Eventually, that chapter closed as life transitioned again. A move to Downtown Roswell, another renovation, and three kids entering school during a global pandemic brought change, a “little bit of crazy” and a fresh spark for something new. Mike returned to performing, but something still felt incomplete. Wendy began harmonizing during rehearsals for fun and everything just clicked. One open mic turned into brewery shows, then regular gigs for the duo. Rebranded as Acoustic Honey, they’re now pouring heart, fun, and creative energy into every performance as they play beloved hits from every era around the Atlanta area. Wendy relays, “We’ve loved playing great local spots like Gate City Brewing and Stone House Tap, and we’re excited to bring our music to wineries, lively breweries, and whatever adventures the new year brings, because life’s too short to play background music in your own story.”

DIS COVER THE VALAIS REGION OF SWITZERLAND, WHERE ALPINE TRAILS, THERMAL SPRINGS, AND LOCAL TRADITIONS CREATE RESTORATIVE TRAVEL.
AN ALPINE ESCAPE
In Switzerland’s Valais region, wellness and adventure are always part of the same itinerary. Morning could bring a high-alpine hike, afternoon a soak in mineral-rich springs, and evening a table set with traditional cuisine, always including delicious wine and cheese. For travelers, the best part will be finding the perfect balance between exploring the outdoors and relaxing with wellness-infused activities in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
A CAR-FREE ALPINE ADVENTURE IN ALETSCH ARENA
An easy train ride from Zurich lands visitors in the Aletsch Arena, a high-alpine region on the south side of the Bernese Alps, home to three villages: Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp. Known for its ski slopes in winter and hiking in summer, the area is entirely car-free, making walking and local buses the main modes of transportation through its quaint chalet-lined streets.
One of the main attractions of the ski-in/ski-out area is the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 12-mile glacier is visible from several vantage points, shaping every experience in the area.
WHERE TO STAY
ARTICLE BY GABI DE LA ROSA
Located in the heart of Bettmeralp, Hotel Panorama provides no-fuss accommodations steps away from the picturesque Chapel Maria Zum Schnee. The hotel’s restaurant offers delicious regional cuisine, including raclette paired with Swiss wine. A good bottle of Pinot Noir or Gamay is also easy to come by because the Valais region of Switzerland is one of the largest wine-producing areas in the country, with vineyards dotting the steep slopes of the Rhône Valley. In addition to wine and cheese, eating cholera, a covered vegetable pie invented in the region during the cholera epidemic, is a must.
Take in sweeping alpine views across Switzerland’s Valais region.
Funicular railway at Lake Emosson.
WHAT TO DO
Begin at Viewpoint Moosfluh, the closest and lowest vantage point of the Aletsch Glacier. From there, trailheads lead to Villa Cassel, once the home of a British financier and now a museum focused on history and conservation. The hike passes through a thousand-year-old forest with views of both the glacier and the Matterhorn.
Walk over Goms Bridge, a nearly 1,000-foot-long suspension bridge that connects two hiking areas over the Rhône River. For a final look at the majestic glacier, take the cable car to Viewpoint Eggishorn. At nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Jungfraujoch, or the “Top of Europe,” and the most comprehensive view of the Aletsch Glacier.
HISTORY AND ALPS MEET IN MARTIGNY
A short train ride takes visitors to one of the largest cities in the Valais region of Switzerland. The city is a crossroads between Italy and France, with a history dating back to Roman times. Visitors can tour Roman ruins, including a well-preserved amphitheater, ancient settlements, and Roman baths.
WHERE TO STAY
Martigny Boutique Hotel is minutes from the train station and is one of the few establishments in the city employing people with disabilities. The light and bright hotel provides a comfortable base for exploring the city.
WHAT TO DO
Take the steepest funicular in the world, the Mont-Blanc Express, on a scenic ascent through the Alps. The funicular connects to a smaller train that leads to the Trient Valley on the French-Swiss border, where, at the top, a full day of activity begins. Hiking, biking, zip-lining, or traversing the Emosson Dam, which straddles France and Switzerland, are all options. The crystal clear blue waters of Emosson Lake are perfect for a picnic or a break between adventures.
Back in Martigny, Barryland, the only theme park in the world dedicated to St. Bernard dogs, offers a look at the history of the dog, bred by monks in the 17th century for alpine rescue work. The Barry Foundation, founded in 2005, continues to preserve the breed and educate visitors about it. Guests can watch the dogs train, play, and interact as they learn about their role in the region.
Roman influence remains visible across the city, including at Les Bains Publics at Hotel Borsari, where visitors can soak in cement wine barrels located in the hotel’s spa. The baths sit on the site of a former wine tank factory and offer a circuit of hot and cold pools in a historically inspired, wine-colored setting.

THIS IS FOOTBALL
MORE THAN WINS, MORE THAN RECORDS. THIS IS ROSWELL.
ADAM MILLER: BUILDING MORE THAN A PROGRAM
ARTICLE BY TRAN BUI
For Adam Miller, head football coach at Centennial High School, the decision to join the Knights was about much more than football. It was about people, purpose, and finding a place where his family and his players could grow.

Roswell High football family
“The one part of Centennial High School that made it very attractive to my family was first the area, but then what sold us to come are the people,” Miller admits. “Our Athletic Director Trey Henson, and Principal Dr. Opie Blackwell are the best I have ever worked with. Their dedication to the student athlete and building successful programs, both academically and athletically are second to none.”
That commitment showed itself on the field during the 2025 season.
Centennial posted its best year since 2018, finishing with a winning record and advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
“We had some great senior leadership this season that truly brought in to our culture and standards as a program which led to the success we saw, and what we hope to build off in the future,” he says.
For Miller, football is a vehicle for something bigger.
“It's a sport where almost everything you do is to help someone else be successful,” he explains. “It is a sport where the team truly comes first.”
At the heart of it all is impact.

“I hope that anyone that comes in contact with our program knows that they matter,” Miller says. “I hope we make them feel welcomed, loved, and appreciated.”
JONATHAN THOMPSON: LEADING WITH PURPOSE
From the start, Roswell High School felt like the right fit for Jonathan Thompson.
“In my first meeting with Principal Dr. Rako Morrissey and Athletic Director Ben Sutter, I was sold on their vision for the future of Roswell High School,” says the new head football coach. “Their commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, combined with the rich tradition of the Hornet football program, made it clear that this was the right move for my family.”

Roswell High's Wills Campbell, Trey Smith, and Balint Vorosmarty signing to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.
A standout season for Centennial under head coach Adam Miller.
Centennial head football coach Adam Miller leads with purpose
That vision came to life during the 2025 season.
“This past season was special in every sense of the word,” he shares. “It started with the character of our players, young men who chose to lead with class and impact the Roswell community every day. It translated into a historic run on Friday nights.”
A demanding schedule early in the season helped prepare the team.
“Our non-region schedule consisted of some of the state’s top programs in Buford, Walton, Peachtree Ridge, and Westlake,” Thompson explains. “That preparation paid off as we navigated the toughest region in the state, going undefeated to capture the 2025 Region 7-5A Championship.”
The postseason run gained notice far beyond Roswell.
“The state and national recognition we received finishing as the #2 team in Class 5A and a Top 75 team in the country speaks volumes about the talent and LOVE FOR EACH OTHER that this group possessed.”
For Thompson, football has always been about more than the scoreboard.
“It's a staple for my family,” he says. “We love the game, but more importantly, we love the platform it provides to help young men become the best versions of themselves.”
That belief drives his mission.
“I learned long ago that you don’t coach for the wins; you coach for the transformation,” Thompson says. “At the end of the day, the ‘Hornet’ is more important than the ‘player.’”
TRUE ROYALTY
Under the Friday night lights at Roswell High School, with the stadium packed for homecoming, quarterback Trey Smith had a plan.

“I was anxious,” Trey recalls. “I already knew I was going to give Jake the crown.”
When his name was called, Trey didn’t wait. He immediately took the crown and sash and placed them on Jake Jeffries, a fellow senior and one of Roswell High’s most devoted fans.
The crowd erupted.
“I thought it would get some cheers at the game, maybe at the school,” Trey admits. “I had no idea a video would go viral or that it would be celebrated by people around the world.”
For Jake’s family, the moment was unforgettable.
“As a dad of a child with differences, seeing your son accepted and part of the team is priceless,” says Scott Jeffries. “Trey and the rest of these young men have been amazing with him from day one.”
For Trey, the gesture was never about recognition.
“It just made me feel good,” he says. “It gave me a sense of purpose to spread kindness. Something small to you might be big to someone else.”
As Trey prepares to continue his football career at Furman University, the legacy he leaves at Roswell High School extends far beyond wins or stats. On a night meant to crown a king, he reminded everyone what true royalty really looks like.
