And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable. As we thought about home, we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That of course includes the aesthetic, design, color, trends, and innovation. But most importantly, what makes a home are the cozy spots and special spaces for family and friends to gather. We feel like the blessed ones as we learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise this city. Chamber Honored The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce has been designated a Georgia Certified Chamber by the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) through a program designed to celebrate and recognize chambers throughout the state that meet exceptional standards of excellence in organization, service intent and capacity, professional administration, financial management, communications, and advocacy. Since the program launched in 2011, GACCE has awarded just over 50 of the more than 150 chambers of commerce.

Mayor Kurt Wilson and the City Council proclaimed U.S. Army Captain John Edward Douglas, Sr., an "Esteemed Veteran of Roswell" for his service to both our community and our country. John Edward Douglas, Sr., started his military career at Roosevelt High, Atlanta, in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program and then attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega.

Speaking Japanese, I Really Think So Roswell High School recently hosted the U.S. Consulate General for Japan, Consul General Mio Maeda, for a visit to the school. Over 120 RHS students are enrolled in Japanese as their second language of choice. Students participated with the Consul General and his team in a rice-pounding activity in celebration of the lunar new year. This month, finishing touches are being added to the fabulous homes on this year's Roswell Woman’s Club Spring Home & Garden Tour, set for April 22. The home tours are a community favorite and continue to be the mainstay of the group's fundraising efforts. Join them for a spring day in Historic Roswell to visit beautifully decorated homes and get ideas for sprucing up your own home. In 2022, Roswell Woman’s Club distributed scholarships and educator grants benefiting students in our community. Scholarships were awarded to fourteen graduating high school seniors to help further their education. 34 educator grants were awarded to North Fulton teachers in 18 different schools. New in 2022,

they awarded one non-traditional Education Grant to a deserving recipient. We joined homeowner Carrie Bonham for a sneak peek tour of their lovely home. Carrie works parttime as the receptionist at Plum Tree Salon on Canton Street and her husband is Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer at Paradies Lagardère. Here is Carrie’s love story for her home. We have lived in Roswell for just over a year after spending 14 years in Acworth, then moving to a townhome in Avalon for two years. We are empty nesters and the one-level, four-bedroom home was an ideal match for us, with no “extra" rooms we didn’t need and no wasted space in the design. thing we did after moving in was add wallpaper to a few rooms and outdoor lighting to showcase the home after dark. We have two daughters who visit as often as they can, especially in the spring and summer, to take advantage of our fabulous outdoor space. Our oldest, Austin, is a buyer for Macy’s and lives in Manhattan. Our youngest, Kenzie, is in her senior year at Georgia Southern University. Nearly all the art in the house is from artists located in the South. The two pieces in the dining area are from Andrea Costa. The space above the fireplace features work from mixed media artist Brandon Luther, while the kitchen showcases art from Johns Creek artist Ali Leja (above bar cart) and Miramar Beach artist Brendan Parker. We absolutely love the feature wall in our master bedroom with the various textures provided by the heavy mortar application on the bricks and the Brazilian teak sliding doors. I'm now eagerly awaiting their new development off of Hightower Road called Grayton. This 30A-inspired development will be another new concept to the Roswell neighborhood scene, which I welcome with open arms.

Pamela Stakemann, Director of Design: I’m excited to see deeper hues and soothing palettes with touches of intensity and moodiness in all the right places! People are again seeking creative color use in their homes. While our favorite, comfortable, and balanced neutrals will always remain relevant and important to any interior design, unexpected pairings with bold and eye-catching colors give them renewed life. The emerging mixed eras in architecture have also led to fun mixed media interiors. When you set the table for a special occasion at home, do you just focus on the forks or do you layer the look with carefully chosen table coverings, fresh flowers, candles (unscented, always) and beloved plates? Think about your favorite restaurants. While the food is the star, the interior design and tablescapes are the stage that makes meals look good. “People are noticing the details and want to know more about the plate, not just what’s being served on it,” says Morgan JonesGreenberg, owner of Table One, a boutique manufacturers rep group in Atlanta specializing in table tops for the hospitality industry. Working with chefs and restaurant owners, her team adds the tabletop building blocks of a look and decides on silverware, glassware, plates, table lighting, coffee service pieces and accessories. She worked with Ryan Pernice to design Table & Main and Osteria Mattone. "Ryan was actually a cold call back in 2011 when I saw an announcement about the Table & Main opening. He was kind enough to agree to meet at my showroom and he’s been a tremendous partner and friend ever since," says Morgan. "We really considered the unique setting of Table & Main when building out their tablescape. The restaurant is in an old house on a historic street in Roswell, so we wanted the tableware to match the feel of the space: warm, inviting and as if you were joining friends at their home for a meal." Floral plates reminiscent of what you might find in a relative’s china cabinet added a pop of color. They also mixed in different materials to bring texture and dimension to the tabletop. Cast iron dishes to serve piping hot sides, and wood boards to accentuate thoughtfully

curated cheese and charcuterie selections helped add layers and set the scene. Functional flatware with a beveled edge detail was chosen to give a little bit of interest and complement the homey feel. Ryan believes the first consideration is to make sure that the aesthetics and vision for your tabletop match the overall feeling of the room. If you're designing for an upscale steakhouse, you can't have flimsy cutlery and chintzy glassware. "Your guests should feel a parallel between what's on the table and how the restaurant presents itself as a whole," says Ryan. "You eat first with your eyes! Guests decide how they feel about a space in a matter of seconds. It's essential that, as they sit, guests gain a sensation that the meal they're about to enjoy will be as beautiful and exciting as their initial impression." At Ryan's restaurants, the seasonal menu changes drive tabletop decisions. If the chef intends to put a new prime steak on the menu,

there will be a plate that can best show off the cuisine and give guests a sense that they're getting their money's worth. "Table & Main's tabletop features service ware that is simple but elevated, just like Chef Woody's cuisine," says Ryan. They use all-purpose Reidel stemware to showcase the sommelier-curated wine selections. "But we don't feel it's necessary to include all the different, specialized glassware that Osteria Mattone uses for its bigger wine collection," he says. Table & Main's Southern hospitality comes through in Lodge cast iron plate ware, wooden planks for Chef's homemade sausages, and a unique four-compartment plate to best deliver their vegetable plate that features four different preparations. Osteria Mattone's table top is more refined, incorporating white tablecloths and finer material plate selections with appropriate glassware for wines, as well as several high-end Reidel decanters. Next time you dine out, devour the interior design too. It's all a part of the meal. Bon appétit!

MORGAN'S SPRING DECOR TIPS For spring I’m excited to see bright pops of color. For the longest time, chefs were coming in only asking for white plates. Lately, we’ve found that our clients are more open to finding colors to compliment their ingredients, not take away from them. Another trend I’m excited about is fun glassware. Cocktail programs have evolved in such a big way, including spirit-free drinks which I think is going to be a big trend on 2023 menus. Cocktails naturally have a lighthearted and celebratory connotation, so why not play it up with your glassware? I’m seeing a lot of unique shapes and exaggerated textures in glassware.

Interior designer Courtney Clymer believes they go together!

Courtney and Harrison Clymer live on Knoll Woods Terrace in Roswell and bought their house in 2014 as newlyweds. Harrison is a realtor and has always had a love for “sweat equity". He really wanted a fixer-upper for the couple's first home and had a vision for it. Growing up in New England, Courtney, an interior designer with Iris & Oak, liked the exterior charm of the new home, but that was about it. "I'm so glad I trusted him, and eight years later, here we are! We slowly renovated each room of our cozy little home, room by room, to fit our needs as our family grew," she says. "I love the charm of older homes (ours was built in 1964) with added unique and modern touches. I love pops of color and texture, and I’ve incorporated that throughout our home." With young children, Courtney wanted the vibe to be all about fun, while also functional and clean. "I LOVE art and think it is one of the greatest gifts. I am always looking for unique and colorful original art, and often ask my husband for it as a

Christmas or birthday gift," she says. "I have several paintings of New England around my home, as it is a very special place to me." Courtney laughs, "I’ve been banned from bringing home any more pillows into my house. (I still sneak them in). I love how pillows are such easy things to change and make a big impact. I change my pillows out seasonally and depending on my mood and what design styles I’m into at the time. Sometimes they are bold, moody, or light and bright. My friends joke about my pillows changing every time they come over!" "The family loves the charm of Historic Roswell and the wonderful small-town, neighborhood feel that it offers. Being within walking distance to Canton Street with young kids is perfect," Courtney says.

Courtney and Harris grew up in Alpharetta, are middle school sweethearts and got married just down the street at Primrose Cottage in 2012. Habitat for Humanity–North Central Georgia has announced the kickoff of its 2023 Women Build. Dedicated women representing a diverse cross-section of the business and civic community come together for the shared purpose of providing a safe and attainable place where parents can raise their children. Their initiative provides an opportunity to empower, develop, and expand the skills of women across our community through fellowship and friendship, fundraising and building. “Our goal is to raise $140,000 to build an entire house from the ground up for a family in North Central Georgia,” states club president Serlin Bakotic. “It is done mostly through individual giving and corporate partnerships, which are

women-owned/led or have a focus on empowering women through personal fundraising and giving, collaborative fundraising, and faith and civic partnerships in the community." “This year, we have included a variety of activities in our monthly meetings. Each meeting, held the second Tuesday of every month, will feature a speaker who will impart knowledge of their profession or their craft, building women through engagement, promise, and presence,” according to Ms. Bakotic. “We try to make each meeting fun & engaging, with clever refreshments at all gatherings and a fun way to connect while committing to a cause in the community. We are currently recruiting new members who will participate in the activities and planning for the year.” Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds affordable housing for purchase by low to moderate income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has built, rehabbed, or repaired over 440 homes in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Partner families are required to attend educational classes related to homeownership and perform 150 sweat equity hours. They earn between 40% and 70% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes through a 30-year, no-interest loan financed by Habitat-NCG. TWO ROSWELL AREA NONPROFITS PARTNER TO MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR MOMS AND KIDS EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS Sunshine on a Ranney Day (SOARD), a Roswell-based nonprofit that renovates homes for kids with special needs, has partnered with The Drake House, another Roswell-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and their children experiencing homelessness to thrive through economic independence, well-being and long-term stability. SOARD unveiled newly renovated youth and moms’ activity spaces. The makeover includes redesigning and renovating multiple rooms that serve as classrooms for kids to study, learn life skills, participate in arts and crafts and serve as safe spaces for them to lounge. The rooms also serve to help moms with relationship building, parenting, health and wellness and money management. The Drake House project is part of “10 Years of Sunshine”, as the charity celebrates 10 years of makeovers for kids and families in the Atlanta metro area. Each year SOARD

Give this year’s cleanup routine a refresh and start with the windows, so when that first warm day arrives, it’s spring—not dust—that’s in the air. Owner and Chef Lazaro Tenreiro's passion is cooking and fine food- authentic Cuban cuisine at its finest. All of the menu items feature the freshest, high-quality ingredients and everything is prepared from scratch. We asked Laz about his childhood and how his memories have shaped his cooking and business model. I lived in the country in a small town called Vazquez in southern Cuba. We had a tiny house with pink tiles and stucco walls. The kitchen was the size of my bathroom here with 99 percent of the gatherings happening outside. Everyone helped with the cooking when I was growing up. I got more involved in cooking when I moved here from Cuba in the 80s. My paternal

grandmother was my biggest inspiration and showed me most of our family recipes. Although my maternal grandmother was also an Amerindian cook, it was “Mami Vita” (that’s what all the grandkids called my paternal grandmother) who shared her passion for cooking with me. When other kids in the family would go out and play, I stayed in to help my grandmother in the kitchen. We always had people just dropping by the house and it was always a party. My favorite dishes were arroz con pollo, red beans and rice, roast pork (done outside in an open pit), and so many more. I would play with my friends and pretend I owned a restaurant and bar and make all these incredible dishes. I picked Roswell as my restaurant home because of the small-town feel and I loved the little houses turned into restaurants. I wanted people to feel like they were

coming to my house for dinner. All the dishes on the menu remind me of growing up in my grandma’s kitchen. To put it mildly, Drew Ellenburg is a “people person”. Once you meet him, you’ll know – he is the friendliest guy in town. Drew is one of six siblings, who all grew up working in the family retail furniture business. After college, he knew that he wanted to create something on his own. In 1998, he and his wife Mary Elizabeth founded the Ellenburg Chair Company and started making handmade chairs for high-end clients. Within a few years, he was manufacturing more than chairs with an expanded line including all upholstered furniture – sofas, sectionals, and beds. Like most of the line, Drew names his products after clients. The “Jaclyn” sofa was named in collaboration with Linen & Flax owner, and designer Chaz Easterly. Chaz and Drew collaborated over a bowl of chili while L&F was still a dream for Chaz. This sofa is named for Chaz’s daughter, Jaclyn.

“The style of the Jaclyn sofa is feminine and classic. It is named after my daughter who exudes the same qualities," says Chaz. "I love working with Ellenburg Chair Co. as we are able to customize so many pieces of upholstery like the Jaclyn, Riley, Christian, and the Roswell Sofa. All are customized through our interior design studio with Ellenburg Chair Co.” The Jaclyn sofa is a high-back sofa with a slight pitch. The waterfall skirt is a perfect spot to add trim tape. It takes thirty-two full hides and nine weeks to make Ellenburg's Chesterfield sofa by hand. The solid maple frame is built by hand, the springs are tied down eight different ways and the individual tufting of the leather is an art form. The Chesterfield is a classic frame style, perfect for the highbrow traditional client with an eye for luxury detail. The stately wingback chair is an updated version of the wingback we grew up with flanking the fireplace.
