LIFESTYLE LETTER
Hello friends,
April 2022 PUBLISHER
Lisa Thibault | lisa.thibault@citylifestyle.com EDITOR
Sue Collins | scollins@citylifestyle.com
Welcome to our April issue of Roswell City Lifestyle. Are you ready to EXPLORE this beautiful issue with us? For our travel issue, we are venturing outside our beloved Roswell, bringing you vacation inspiration and reflections. We hope you find a quiet moment to sit, read the magazine cover to cover and journey with us. This month, we travel to a lesser-explored region of Tennessee, where you will find Mike Wolfe (on our cover), of the popular TV show American Pickers, working with leaders from 13 rural Middle Tennessee and Northwest Alabama communities to launch a new regional movement. We are thrilled to bring you Stacy Conde's story on page 42 that shares a travelogue of what makes the area special. Closer to home, we head in town to the Four Seasons where the chefs have created a menu of internationally-inspired, plant-based cuisine that is now available on the lunch and dinner menus at Bar Margot. (It's our editor's favorite spot!) Our resident 30A expert, Mary Fletcher, shares her favorite spots to nosh and nibble at the beach. Where are you heading for spring break? Be sure to tag us on social media and we'll be looking for you! Be sure to check in with our legal advisor and estate planning expert, Oren Ross, who speaks to us about programs to help families of all ages protect themselves in these times. As always, we are proud to share stories of local non-profits. This month we introduce Revved Up Kids, who are doing so much good work to help those affected by childhood abuse. Thanks for inviting us into your homes and we cannot wait to see you around our town. Love local, spend locally and get out and enjoy Roswell.

Come for spring break, find a second home and stay awhile! We all love the beaches of 30A and Destin. You likely have your favorites, but we asked a local about her finds. With more than 20 years of experience selling real estate along Florida’s Emerald Coast, Mary Fletcher has built a family of real estate clients, peers and business associates. Starting from her first year as a realtor, when she won Rookie of the Year, Mary has consistently been a top producer. “I have been coming to South Walton since the mid-80s and I watched this area grow. I moved here from East Cobb in 1999 and fell in love with 30A,” says Mary. Here are her picks.

WISH YOU WERE HERE WHAT MAKES A VACATION SO MEMORABLE?

M UST SE E | L IFE + CU LTURE
KURT WILSON MAYOR OF ROSWELL Beginning in 2006, my family (my wife Stacey and our four daughters Sparling, Leighton, Mattie, and Sarah Nora) began a tradition that I have to say has become a reservoir of great memories and fun that will remain with us for our lifetimes. Where, might you ask? In 2006 we began our first of many weeklong Disney Cruises! We first went in 2006, then again in 2009, 2012, and 2015 with a couple of cruises interspersed for shorter periods where the entire family did not go. Cruises are something I think you either love, or you don’t care for much. Disney Cruises are the ultimate family excursion, and for us the
ultimate cruise experience. The Disney “magic” is on full display, the food is exceptional, the shows are what you would expect, and the kids are able to interact with Disney characters. After our very first cruise, we began the drive home to Roswell from Cape Canaveral. We had not been on the road 20 minutes when my two oldest daughters said “Daddy, we want to go home.” I replied, “We are heading that way.” They said, “Daddy, not that home, but the Disney boat home.” Needless to say, we were hooked from that point on, and thus began a love affair for our family with Disney Cruises! We had paid for and planned a 14-day Disney Cruise for May 2020 in Europe. Unfortunately, that cruise has not happened yet, but my girls are ready, willing and able!

LISA THIBAULT PUBLISHER I had the pleasure of celebrating with the City Lifestyle corporate team last month in Laguna Niguel, at the gorgeous Ritz-Carlton. We enjoyed meals and drinks at Raya restaurant and the outdoor lounge, 180blũ. We brainstormed opportunities and shared stories from our local magazines and markets. The company now has more than 110 titles nationwide! Waking up to views of Dana Point and the ocean, walks on the beach and talking with other publishers and corporate leaders gave me time to reflect on how wonderful Roswell is and how grateful I am to have the community behind our magazine. Yes, being in California on the coast was fabulous, but honestly, it was being with those amazing and hard-working people that made the destination so memorable. STEVE STROUD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ECONOMIC & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, ROSWELL INC. We traveled east to visit family over Thanksgiving in 2021. Camille (21) & Cate Stroud (17) traveled with us as well as Cate’s boyfriend Jack Rickheim. Over Thanksgiving 2021, our family traveled to New England for 10 days to visit family in both Boston and Connecticut. We spent several days in Boston having tons of fun, even while we were freezing our tails off! We attended a Bruins game, did a Boston Duck Tour, shopped like crazy, and spent many hours with our new 2 ½ week old great-nephews/cousins William and Benjamin. In Connecticut we spent time with four generations of the Gates family, laughing, eating, drinking, and enjoying every minute! And on Thanksgiving Day, we attended the 85th running of the Manchester (CT) Road Race, one of the best holiday traditions around. As always, Thanksgiving means family! MINDY HARGESHEIMER EDITOR, CITYLIFESTYLE.COM Visually stunning. Culturally enriching. Globally eye-opening. An emotionally charged trip of a lifetime! A multi-week, 3-part trip to South Africa was everything and MORE than we could ask for in an international travel experience. Several day visits to Cape Town, the coastal wine region on the Western Cape, and a private game reserve adjacent to the famous Kruger National Park made for 14 days of pure cultural bliss. This is a bucket list trip that we tell everyone to prioritize if they are able. It’s a life-changing experience that will have you living your best life and overflowing with joy and appreciation!

SUE G. COLLINS EDITOR When visiting The Abaco Club in the dreamy Bahamas, I played 18 holes on a true links course skirting the sea, paddled out on Winding Bay to snorkel with sea turtles, cruised the azure waters aboard Paradise, the club’s 54-foot luxury motor yacht, succumbed to a massage with Bahamian Rhythmic Touch Therapy, retiring to my very own cabana suite at the end of a busy day. But, the most memorable few hours were spent on one of the club’s cruiser bikes. I followed the onetrack lane to Cherokee Sound, the most isolated settlement on Abaco. It has neat, narrow concrete streets, pastel-painted houses and a sweet little school. I parked my bike and took it all in. Sometimes (ok, always), it pays to venture off the beaten track. Wish I were there! STUART TANGLE READER FROM ROSWELL Our family took a vacation from Roswell and visited Smith Lake in Alabama last summer. I had no idea about the paradise that was basically in my backyard! It was only a short 3-hour drive away. Friends and family had shared this incredible place with us, but we hadn’t had the chance to go. The lake is breathtaking, and the people are so friendly. It doesn’t matter what time of year, it seems there are always events happening. Our family can’t think of a better place to bond and laugh together. The expansive emerald water is the perfect backdrop for creating memories! AP R I L 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/R O S W E L LGA

CHICKPEA & AVOCADO TOSTADAS MAKES 3
INGREDIENTS: Executive Chef Edgar Kano and Sous Chef Chad “Sosa” Hester have created a menu of internationally-inspired, plant-based cuisine that is now available on the lunch and dinner menus at Bar Margot at Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta. The five new dishes are house-made using non-processed ingredients, where nearly all of the produce is sourced from regional Southeastern farms. We met the chefs recently and were impressed by their commitment to flavor and storytelling through their new menu. Each has a magnetic personality and an enthusiasm for their craft that shines through loud and clear in every dish. Lucky you, reader! They shared a recipe for a gorgeous (and easy to make) tostada that just might transport you to another world! But first, a little background. In 2020, Chef Sosa expanded his culinary skillset by launching a food truck called Plant-Based Kitchen. Through this year-long venture, he connected directly with Atlanta’s community of vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians and the plant-curious, who introduced him to the growing desire for elevated plant-based food. His first-hand interactions became his motivation to explore innovative methods and ingredients when preparing hearty, delicious meals – sans animal products, which revealed a need to add such items to the Bar Margot menu. When it came time to begin experimenting with ingredients, Chef Sosa followed his heart for inspiration, which led him to the people of Bar Margot – from the bartenders and cooks he works alongside to the restaurant’s multicultural clientele. “I am grateful for the array of cultures shared inside our kitchen. It is a reflection of the rich diversity found throughout Atlanta,” explains Chef Sosa. “For instance, one of our cooks, Alissa Bermudez, is originally from Hawaii. I love the clean, vibrant ingredients of a traditional poke, but to make it vegan, we replaced ahi tuna with red and golden beets. Several of our team members are from West Africa, which became a source of inspiration for the spicy jollof rice garnished with a meaty-textured king trumpet mushroom.” Trying new dishes can be intimidating, for certain. But, during this fresh spring season of rebirth, why not venture outside your meat and potatoes and treat your body to a plant-based dining adventure.

2 tablespoons olive oil 4 tablespoons soy sauce, enough to coat all of the ingredients 4 cups steamed chickpeas 1 red onion, diced 1 red bell pepper, diced 2 cups chopped cauliflower ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves 2 ½ tablespoons onion powder 2 ½ tablespoons garlic powder 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon paprika 2 whole ripe avocados, peeled and pits removed 2 tablespoons chili oil 4 fresh limes: 2 juiced, 2 sliced in quarters 3 crispy corn tortillas 1 pound radishes, spiralized 3 tablespoons toasted coconut flakes 4 tablespoons pickled ginger
DIRECTIONS 1. In a medium saucepan, drizzle olive oil, and soy sauce over medium heat. When heated, slowly add steamed chickpeas, red onion, red bell pepper, chopped cauliflower and cilantro. Season with onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and paprika. Saute all ingredients until tender. Remove from heat and pour ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. Cover and place inside the refrigerator to chill for minimum of three hours or overnight. 2. To make the avocado coulis, place the two avocados, chili oil, and half of the lime juice in the bowl of a food processor. Add salt to taste. Puree until smooth. Set aside. 3. Place three corn tortillas on a plate. Spread a layer of the avocado coulis on each tortilla. Remove the bowl of sautéed vegetables from the refrigerator; scoop desired amount onto each tortilla. Top with spiralized radish and sprinkle of toasted coconut flakes. Garnish with pickled ginger. Squeeze juice from lime wedges over each, for added flavor. FourSeasons.com/Atlanta

Rural Tennessee's Hidden
Gems
Muscle Shoals and more in Nashville's "Big Back Yard" 42
H OT SP OT | ARTS + CU LTURE
ARTICLE BY STACY CONDE PHOTOGRAPHY BY STACY CONDE, MEGHAN AILEEN
Follow the 100-mile route along the historic Natchez Trace Parkway from Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee to Florence, Alabama and you’ll find a rural escape from the city that is filled with outdoor adventure, music, incredible food and small-town hospitality. American Picker and Leiper’s Fork resident Mike Wolfe joined leaders from 13 rural Middle Tennessee and Northwest Alabama communities to launch a new regional movement dubbed Nashville’s Big Back Yard, an economic and tourism initiative that shines a light on the richness of life and culture in the small (population of 5,000 or less) towns connected by the Trace. “We appreciate Mike’s support of our movement to engage people who may be looking for a change of pace and a different quality of life,” said Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner. “We’ve always considered ourselves to be a vital backyard support system for cities like Nashville, and we think now is the right time to promote a regional approach to living and working.” The Big Back Yard anchors, The Shoals and Leiper’s Fork, are best kept secrets. From the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, where Aretha recorded “Respect”, to Puckett’s of Leiper’s Fork, where on any given Thursday, you might catch Motley Crue’s Vince Neil on stage at open mic night, a trip through Nashville’s Big Back Yard is the Tennessee vacation you didn’t know you needed… but trust me, you do. Linda Hall, widow of Rick Hall, “The Father of Muscle Shoals music”, and caretaker of FAME Studios; and Judy Hood, wife of legendary Muscle Shoals “Swamper” David Hood and caretaker of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio were in the thick of it during the heyday of music in the Shoals, and they have stories to tell. Linda and Judy have been the women behind the men of the Muscle Shoals Sound and they continue the tradition of music-making in the Shoals with fully operational studios and guided tours available daily. Four Alabama cities make up “The Shoals”, the largest of which is Florence, where you can stay right in the heart of downtown at the GunRunner Hotel, shop at the Billy Reid headquarters and dine from a menu packed with sustainably raised, locally sourced ingredients at Odette. Leiper's Fork Inn
At the northern end of the Trace is Leiper’s Fork. Originally settled in the 1800s, the village was brought back to life in the mid-1990s by a cooperative that restored the Queen Anne and craftsman style homes that had been left vacant for years; and established land trusts which protect it from being overrun with chain hotels and restaurants. The result is an idyllic hamlet that, in just a few square miles, has all the shopping, entertaining and relaxing that you could possibly need. You can shop for vintage turquoise at Morgane Stapleton’s Tennessee Turquoise and ogle over upcycled, one-of-a-kind clothing from Textile Revival. You can stuff your face with a “Big Bad Breakfast” at the Country Boy and sample from a multi-course menu in a 130-year-old home at 1892 Leiper’s Fork. At Leiper’s Creek Gallery, you might think you are trespassing into a local’s home. The historic former gas station’s 15-foot ceilings and fireplace provide a village-chic domestic setting in which to enjoy the art.
The Spa at Leiper’s Fork is in a beautiful Victorian house at the edge of town. It’s a comfort just to walk in the front door. Their list of treatments covers most everything and their bespoke Bourbon Lavender bath collection smells good enough to eat… or drink. Just a few minutes’ drive down the main road will take you to Leiper’s Fork Distillery. Owner and distiller Lee Kennedy’s small batch production, using locally sourced ingredients, perfects a smooth “grain to glass” whiskey. The Pot N’ Kettle Cottage collection is the perfect landing pad for a Big Back Yard adventure. Owners Eric and Sam have curated the most impeccable cottages, with interior design so good that I found myself nearly squealing with joy as I walked through the space. From the appliances to the bathroom fixtures and bed linens, everything is of the highest quality and laid-back chic. There’s a good reason that Justin Timberlake and Keith Urban put down roots here. It’s a quick drive to Nashville.
The countryside is gorgeous, and they can go about their business as a local, without being bothered. Each of the towns along the Big Back Yard route has something special to share. From the only known double span natural bridge formation in Waynesboro, where Davy Crockett gave one of his first political speeches; to the charming main street of Mount Pleasant, there are sight-seeing treasures at every turn. “Nashville’s Big Back Yard, a back to the land movement, is a virtual showroom of small-towns outside of Nashville,” says Mike Wolfe, a rural Williamson County, Tennessee resident who has traveled tens of thousands of miles and gained millions of fans as the star and creator of HISTORY’s “American Pickers” series. “These communities are important parts of the heart and soul of America. The American dream is alive and well in these places. And this time in history gives a unique opportunity to embrace that, to come home again for the first time. We invite you to come and play in our Big Back Yard.”

WHERE ELSE TO STOP WHILE IN DAHLONEGA?
WHERE TO STAY?
Favorite Coffee Shop: The Picnic Cafe, Jethro’s Coffee & Public House, Canopy and The Roots. Picnic Cafe offers quintessential charm, with delicious home-baked pastries and desserts, as well as sandwiches and outdoor dining. Jethro’s offers a moody, stylish environment with Valor coffee and great specialty drinks. Check out Canopy and the Roots, with its boho vibe and artsy performance space below, making a splash not just with its coffees but also its speakeasy venue. FAVORITE DINNER SPOT: Spirit’s Tavern for its signature killer burgers, a friendly local atmosphere, and carefully curated beers on tap. Consistently good, where everyone learns your name. FAVORITE HIKE: Preacher’s Rock. Often cited as a prime spot for wedding proposals, insta selfies and scenic picnics, this doable 2-mile hike offers summit views from multiple overlooks from the Appalachian Trailhead. Beautiful opportunity to breathe in the mountains. IS HISTORY YOUR JAM? In 1828, more than 20 years before the gold rush boom out west, Dahlonega welcomed an influx of miners after it was discovered to have the largest gold deposits found east of the Mississippi River. Today the city celebrates its rich past with attractions that visitors of all ages can enjoy - from educational opportunities including museums and artifacts to interactive experiences such as gold panning and mine tours. The Dahlonega Gold Museum, a State Historic Site, offers visitors an up-close look at mining heritage, including a complete collection of gold coins minted in Dahlonega. At the Crisson Gold Mine, which dates back to 1847, guests can watch the original clattering contraption that crushes rock – VERY noisily – to get to the gold. At Consolidated Gold Mines, visitors enjoy meeting “Miner Mike,” a real miner and colorful character in overalls, with a stick of dynamite and pickaxe in hand, and a battered felt hat on top of his head. Both Consolidated and Crisson Gold Mines offer tours and the chance to strike it rich panning for gems. For the most comprehensive experience, guests can stop by the Dahlonega visitor’s center to pick up the Gold Fever Package, which offers discounted tickets to all three of these local gold attractions.
With their high design Airbnb offerings, StayDahlonega boasts nine unique properties, including three Treehouses, an authentic log cabin and five cottages and houses. Nature’s Nook Treehouse sits in the heart of wine country and incorporates nature with globally inspired, modern design. The Shou Sugi Ban exterior, with its contemporary aesthetic, compliments its sophisticated interior, with its layered bunks, lofts and nooks. Design elements include the living oak tree that grows up the center of the treehouse, as well as the signature live-edge poplar tree flooring, crafted from slabs cut from the property. Looking for something whimsical? Bed + Bough Treehouse is the stuff dreams are made of! Described as ‘fairytale’, ‘storybook’ and ‘magical’, Bed + Bough sits on a 5-acre private nature retreat. The juniper-lined staircase brings you to the porch with signature turquoise doors leading you into the charming interior. The cozy loft includes a king-size bed with beautiful morning views. Want to wake up to mountain views from the comfort of your king-size bed? Daybreak Treehouse, aptly named for its stunning Wauka mountain views, sits perched on the top of a dramatic ridge. Its stunning cedar shake rooftop, large wrap around deck, and inviting queen-size bed swing outside add to the treehouse experience with HVAC, custom kitchenette, and strong Wi-Fi. Is Americana Log Cabin your vibe? Then let’s talk Houndstooth Hideaway, a stylish cabin in the woods. Rustic meets chic, Ralph Lauren meets cozy, and everything old is new again. StayDahlonega’s rescued Log Cabin, affectionately named Houndstooth Hideaway, with a nod to British houndstooth fabric, is always ready for a little hibernation. She’s dapper and bookish in the best of ways…equipped with anthologies of authors such as Tolkein, Sherlock, Lewis and the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew to balance things out. Inspired by her 3-year old son, who lovingly calls strawberries “strawbabies,” Jane Collins created this shirt to find some way to help the children of Ukraine. One hundred percent of the profits from these shirts will go to Save the Children.
FUNDRAISER FOR SAVE THE CHILDREN ARTICLE BY ROSWELL
CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF PHOTOGRAPHY MEGAN CHANG
Jane was heartbroken watching the news reports of struggling young mothers being pushed from their homes in Ukraine and wanted to help in some small way. She connected with Save The Children and created a design to cheer us and support an organization doing amazing work. Save the Children is right now on the ground, in the U.S. and around the world, delivering essential humanitarian aid. Your purchase helps this life-saving work. Children in Ukraine, Afghanistan and around the world who might be caught in the middle of armed conflict, forced to flee their homes and exposed to injury, hunger and sub-zero temperatures are Save the Children’s number one concern. The Classic Unisex Tee is a traditional, heavyweight tee made of 100% cotton and comes in sand and white. The adorable crewneck sweatshirt is a classic fit unisex shirt in sport grey, gold and white. The sweatshirts are a 50/50 blend of cotton and poly and launder beautifully. Jane is our editor Sue’s daughter. She is a freelance illustrator and brand designer and, most importantly, mom to Teddy. PLANNING MAKES PERFECT ESTATE PLANNING AT LIFE'S TURNING POINTS ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS
My dad taught me how to sail. He taught me how to properly shake hands. My mom taught me to be kind to others and relish the joy of letter writing.

EXP E RT H E LP | FIN AN CE + LE GAL S E RVI CE S
What I wasn’t made privy to, however, was the importance of legal and financial planning. My husband and I hammered out our first (and only) will when our second child was born. And, for estate planning, we are just now turning to the professionals. For this story, we talked to Oren Ross of Oren Ross & Associates. The Roswell firm specializes in estate planning – creating trusts, wills, and associated documents. We appreciate that he is willing to build a customized, comprehensive estate plan for us, taking into consideration family dynamics, taxes, business ownership (that’s me), nursing home expenses, legacies, and final wishes. Oren is licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia, is a member of the State Bar of Georgia Fiduciary Law Section, the State Bar of Georgia Elder Law Section, and the North Fulton Bar Association. He lives in Johns Creek with his wife Rachel, their son Bo, and their three cats and two dogs. He volunteers at the Atlanta Humane Society in his free time, and is passionate about exercise and physical fitness.
We asked him about estate planning at four different turning points.
18-YEARS OLD You need a financial power of attorney and advance directive for healthcare. Without those, parents can’t manage your finances or make medical decisions for you without going through a long process in probate court. MID-20’S You now need powers of attorney, and should also consider having a last will and testament, especially if you are married, have children, or own a house. A will allows you to name guardians for your children, and makes settling your estate in the probate court a simpler process. 40’s People need powers of attorney, a will, and should consider a living trust at this point. Wills go through the probate court, which is usually a long and expensive process. Living trusts allow us to bypass the probate court when you pass away, and your heirs can receive assets immediately. AROUND RETIREMENT Many people set up living trusts to avoid probate and make things as easy as possible for their spouse and children when they pass away. “It’s simply all about using fresh ingredients: fresh fruit, fresh herbs, fresh taste,” says bartender Effie Skiouris at Alpharetta City Center’s Never Enough Thyme. She says to add a San Pellegrino for sparkle and choose a flavor to complement the juice, topping off the glass with a slice of the fresh fruit and voila! You will have a cocktail that’s lovely and light, just right for a healthy new year. Often, bartenders have a mocktail up their sleeve, using housemade simple syrups and sodas. Suggest a taste profile (citrus, ginger, fruit, bitter) and let your bartender take it from there. Make it a mocktail and join the crowd!

“Wander Tears was dreamed up as a solution to an evolving problem: we wanted to travel further, but also sleep well, in the short time we could get away and into nature,” says Daniel Doherty, co-founder of Wander Tears. Newly wed couple Daniel and Paige build custom teardrop trailers in Aiken, SC and mentor DIYers on how to build their own teardrop. These little trailers pack a punch, offering a tiny home on wheels. It all started when they designed and built their own teardrop trailer to allow them to maximize their time in nature and minimize the time spent preparing for the trip. As outdoor enthusiasts, they enjoy backpacking, mountain biking, hiking, and camping, but Daniel was done sleeping on the ground, Paige was tired of camp set up taking away from their time on the trails, and they got rained on one too many times in their tent. The solution? A compact teardrop camper that could be towed by the car they already owned. Teardrop trailers are becoming more and more popular and enhancing the way people travel. They are small, lightweight trailers (often 5’x8’) that can be towed by virtually any vehicle. With a teardrop, you get everything you need and nothing you don’t, giving you the freedom to escape at a moment’s notice! “People are always shocked that there is a queen bed and full kitchen area in our teardrops,” says Paige Doherty, Co-Founder of Wander Tears. Wander Tears is a Teardrop Trailer Company, but their bigger mission is to inspire others to live an intentional life. For many, that’s through travel. Whether you are a weekend warrior or road tripper, Wander Tears custom-built trailers are the perfect base camp for adventure.
FAQS WITH PAIGE AND DANIEL I have kids and a dog, can my family fit in a teardrop? YES! Our first custom order was for a family of four. We modified the cabin to fit a removable cot for a smaller child. Once your kids get bigger, a rooftop tent or awning room are great options to expand your sleeping space while staying compact! I’m over 6 feet tall, is it realistic to get a teardrop? I (Daniel) am 6’2”. I designed all of our teardrop models around my body. The foot space, knee clearance, the curve of the teardrop, height of the galley hatch, everything has been considered and designed with maximum efficiency. If I choose to build my own DIY trailer, how long will it take me with your plans? The current time to beat from a DIYer in our community is three months for our most popular Vaga model. However, our Renegade and Hopper models have been done even quicker! Wandertears.com Instagram: @wandertears

Standing Up For Kids April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Revved Up Kids (RUK) based in Peachtree Corners is a small nonprofit making a big impact in Atlanta. Says Executive Director and Co-Founder, Alli Neal, “Our work is foundational for all children.” The work? RUK is on a mission to keep children and teens safer from sexual abuse and exploitation. Everyone knows someone who has battled cancer. Statistically, though, there are more than twice as many survivors of child sexual abuse, but no one talks about it. We can’t solve a problem that we’re afraid to discuss.
Revved Up Kids partners with schools, youth-serving organizations, private groups, police departments (including the Roswell Police Department), healthcare organizations, after-school programs, summer camps and others to bring training to children ages 5-18. In March, 2022, Revved Up Kids celebrated training its 40,000th child (pictured). The longtime training partner who helped RUK reach this milestone was The Cottage School right here in Roswell. Interested in hosting a training workshop or getting involved as a volunteer? Visit RevvedUpKids.org to learn more.
