Hello,
This issue marks an exciting milestone, my very first as publisher of Rochester City Lifestyle, and I could not be more energized about what lies ahead.
From the moment I stepped into this role, I have been inspired by the people who make Rochester thrive. I have had the pleasure of meeting passionate entrepreneurs, dedicated community leaders, and families who pour their hearts into this city. The pride you have for Rochester is contagious, and it is exactly what makes this publication so special.

Rochester City Lifestyle is more than a magazine. It is a platform to celebrate local success, elevate small businesses, highlight meaningful initiatives, and connect neighbors through shared stories. My vision is to continue strengthening those connections and ensure every issue reflects the spirit, resilience, and innovation that define this community.
The theme this month is Investment, and I love how naturally it reflects who we are. Investment is the courage to start something new, the commitment to grow something meaningful, and the belief that our community is worth building for the long term. It shows up in the businesses expanding their footprint, in families planting roots, and in neighbors choosing to support one another every day. When we invest in Rochester, we are investing in shared success and a future we are proud to shape together.
To everyone who has welcomed me, shared your story, partnered with us, or followed us on this new journey, thank you. Your support truly fuels what we do.
This is just the beginning. I am excited for the conversations, collaborations, and community moments ahead.
Let us build something great together.
Warmly,

PHOTOGRAPHY BY TIME WILL TELL PHOTOGRAPHY

If you’ve never been to Endress Acres, picture this: rows and rows of dahlias in every color you can think of — soft blush, deep burgundy, bright coral, creamy white — stretching out in neat lines, bringing a little touch of magic to the front yard of an old farmhouse.
The work starts long before anything blooms. Growing dahlias isn’t casual gardening — it’s detailed, hands-on, and surprisingly technical. Tubers are planted with intention. Soil is prepped carefully. Spacing matters. Timing matters. Weather can make or break a season. By the time those first green shoots push through the ground, there have already been hours of planning behind the scenes.
“I hope that everyone leaves here knowing they’ve made a friend for life and that we’re here to celebrate all of life’s moments.”

Then summer hits, and the place transforms.
But what's even more special?. These flowers aren’t just for looking at, they're meant to be enjoyed with friends and strangers alike, creating a backdrop or a get together that feels special.
Endress Acres offers floral subscriptions to locals, and it’s one of the best ways to experience what they grow. Those that sign up for the receive fresh-cut dahlias arranged beautifully and ready for their kitchen table, office desk, or front entryway. It’s local in the truest sense — grown
right here, cut right here, and delivered or picked up at peak freshness.
There’s something different about flowers that haven’t traveled across the country. The colors feel brighter. The blooms last longer. And there’s a connection to them because you know exactly where they came from.
Beyond the flowers themselves, Endress Acres has become a gathering place.
Throughout the blooming season, the farm hosts events that bring people right into the fields. Workshops. U-pick experiences. Private gatherings. Even small
celebrations set against a backdrop of color that honestly doesn’t need much decorating. The flowers are oftentimes the star of the show.
What makes these events special isn’t just the setting — though standing between rows of dahlias at golden hour is hard to beat. It’s the atmosphere. It feels welcoming, relaxed, and thoughtfully put together. You can tell it’s run by people who care about details - and details matter on a flower farm.
Dahlias are known for being stunning but a little high-maintenance. They require

“The community we’ve created here is incredible. They are the actual heart of the operation and why I keep showing up everyday.” Picking magic.
consistent attention — staking, pruning, cutting at the right time to encourage more blooms. It’s hands-on work all season long. There’s no autopilot. If you want a place like Endress Acress, you earn it.
What’s especially cool about Endress Acres is that it keeps things local and personal. This isn’t mass production. It’s seasonal, intentional growing. When the frost comes, the season wraps. Tubers are lifted, stored, divided, and prepared for the following year. It’s a cycle that demands patience.
And yet, that seasonality is part of the magic. Dahlias aren’t available year-round, and they’re not meant to be. When they’re here, they’re vibrant and generous. When they’re gone, you look forward to their return.
If you talk to people who subscribe or attend events at Endress Acres, you’ll hear the same thing: it feels like stepping into a different world even though it's just down the street. You can walk the rows, take photos, build your own bouquet, or just stand there for a minute and take it in.
In a world of overnight shipping fast paced shopping, there’s something refreshing about flowers grown down the
road by people you can actually meet. You see the work. You see the field. You understand the season.
Endress Acres isn’t trying to be anything other than what it is — a beautiful, hardworking dahlia farm that shares what it grows with its community. And honestly, that’s more than enough.
When the fields are in full bloom and the air smells faintly green and sweet, you don’t need much convincing. You just need to show up.
They’re a working farm, so if we miss your call, we’re probably in the field with the flowers (or the goldens). Leave a message or send an email, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

A space where movement is more than exercise — it’s a ritual.
Downtown Rochester has a new obsession — and it’s bringing the heat.
Meet Vèlla Studio, the ultra-chic Pilates space redefining what a workout can feel like.
Tucked along Main Street, this isn’t your average pilates studio -- It’s elevated, intentional, and designed for those that want to feel as strong as they look.
Vèlla blends infrared-enhanced Reformer and Mat Pilates with creative and intentional classes to create a results-driven experience that hits different. The infrared heat isn’t just a vibe — it also supports circulation, promotes recovery, and deepens that slow, sculpting burn.
The magic of Vèlla is not only in how beautiful the space makes you feel, it's also the way the instructors make you feel. The workouts are challenging, yes — but only in the bests ways. Every sequence is thoughtfully programmed to build strength, stability, and mobility in a way that respects your body. No random movements. No wasted time. Just precise, Pilates-based sculpt work.
Whether you’re brand new to pilates or have visited every studio around the country, Vèlla promises to meet you where you are. The instructors are equal parts motivating and meticulous, offering clear cues, personalized modifications, and hands-on adjustments

that make you feel supported — not singled out. The energy in the room is welcoming but focused. Elevated but grounded. It’s luxe without trying too hard.
The name Vèlla is inspired by the Spanish word “bella,” meaning beautiful — but founder Daisy’s interpretation goes deeper. For her, beauty isn’t delicate. It’s strength. It’s resilience. It’s confidence built through discipline and intention. She wanted a name that honored femininity while redefining it — beauty as power, not perfection.
“I didn’t want to open just another workout space,” Daisy says. “I wanted to create an experience that helps people feel stronger in every sense.”
And you feel that intention the second you walk in. The design is moody and modern. The vibe is polished but inviting. It feels like a space where you can show up exactly as you are — and leave a little more powerful.

What truly sets Vèlla apart is its philosophy of becoming. This isn’t about chasing a smaller size or surviving a brutal sweat session. It’s about building a stronger foundation — physically and mentally. It’s about standing taller when you leave. Carrying yourself differently. Feeling that quiet confidence settle into your posture.
At Vèlla, clients are at the center of everything. Daisy’s vision is simple but impactful: create a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to become the strongest, most confident version of themselves. The kind of strength that radiates. The kind you don’t have to announce. So yes, you’ll sweat. You’ll shake. You’ll feel that deep core engagement for days. But more importantly, you’ll feel strong.

(Editors note: We can’t forget to mention the in-studio coffee and matcha bar — because yes, it’s as dreamy as it sounds. Order with the barista before class, and when you walk out? Your latte or iced matcha is waiting for you like a reward. It’s seamless, elevated hospitality at its finest — the kind of detail that makes you wonder why every studio doesn’t do this. Honestly, what more could you ask for?)
Vèlla Studio is located at 329 S. Main Street in downtown Rochester. Learn more at vellastudios.com or download the Vèlla Studio app to explore class offerings and book your next session.

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.
A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.
Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?
A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.
Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?
A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.
Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?
A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.
“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”
Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?
A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”
Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.
This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

BAUS serves up a classic cocktail with a rich history.
ARTICLE BY JENNIFER LEE
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSICA SNOW
Some cocktails are having a moment. The Last Word has had over a century.
This equal-parts classic was created in the early 1900s at the iconic Detroit Athletic Club — a place known for polished service, old-school glamour, and very well-made drinks. The cocktail perfectly matched the setting: sophisticated but bold, simple but layered.
The Last Word was born in an era when cocktails were bold, structured, and unapologetically spirit-forward. The DAC, long synonymous with old-world elegance and impeccable hospitality, was exactly the kind of place where a drink like this would take shape: refined, precise, and memorable.
While the cocktail was created at the Detroit Athletic Club around 1915, historical accounts suggest a performer named Frank Fogarty either introduced the drink to the club or made it popular there — rather than a documented in-house bartender creating it. As with many pre-Prohibition cocktails, exact records are a little hazy, but Fogarty’s name is the one most consistently tied to its story. That my friends, is local cocktail history at its finest.
What makes The Last Word stand out is its symmetry. Four ingredients. All the same measurement. That’s it. No overthinking, no fussy technique — just balance. But don’t confuse simple with boring. This drink is bright, herbal, slightly sweet, and perfectly tart all at once.
The gin lays down a botanical base. Green Chartreuse brings that unmistakable herbal intensity (it’s been made by French monks for centuries - it's a story you should really read more about if you don't already know how amazing this tradition is). Luxardo Maraschino liqueur adds cherry and almond notes, and fresh lime juice pulls everything together.
It tastes intentional. It tastes like a bartender who knows exactly what they’re doing.
Like many pre-Prohibition cocktails, The Last Word disappeared during the 1920s and basically ghosted the bar scene for decades. It wasn’t until the early 2000s, when craft cocktails started making a serious comeback, that bartenders rediscovered it. Once it reemerged, it spread fast. Turns out, a perfectly balanced drink never really goes out of style.
Today, it’s considered a modern classic — a go-to for cocktail lovers who appreciate structure and flavor without extra stuff.
Served up in a chilled Nick & Nora glass with a single Luxardo cherry, The Last Word looks as polished as it tastes. No dramatic garnish. No smoke bubbles. Just a sharp, clean pour that speaks for itself.
It’s the kind of drink you order when you want something classic but not predictable. Something with personality, but still refined. Equal parts confident and cool.
After one sip, the name makes sense.
Balanced. Bold. Timeless.
Some cocktails compete for attention.
This one simply gets the last word.
The Build (equal parts = the perfect balance):
Ingredients:
• • .75 oz New Zealand gin
• • .75 oz Green Chartreuse
• • .75 oz Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
• • .75 oz fresh lime juice
Directions:
1. • Shake with ice
2. • Double strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass
3. • Garnish with a Luxardo cherry

WHAT IF THE BEST INVESTMENT DOESN’T SHOW UP ON A BALANCE SHEET?

Kyrstyn Dean, MBA Founder & Owner | Detroit Promotions
When you hear the word investment, you probably think about money.
Stocks. Real estate. Retirement accounts. 401(k)s.
And while those things matter, the kind of investment that shaped my career — and ultimately Detroit Promotions — looked different.
It wasn't courses, certifications, or credentials.
It was people.
Early in my career, my mentor chose to focus on what I could become instead of what I lacked. He trusted me with responsibility before I felt ready, inviting me into real conversations and decisions that felt beyond my experience. He gave me ownership, and, in doing so, taught me empathy, curiosity, and the power of showing up with heart.
That investment shaped my career, but more importantly, it shaped my purpose.
It taught me that people don't rise to criticism; they rise to opportunity and trust.
“Let’s look at the word investment differently — one that goes beyond financial returns and focuses on investing in people, mentorship, and the next generation.”
Unfortunately, many people in my generation experienced the opposite. Instead of being coached, they were criticized.
Millennials don't work hard.
Millennials feel entitled.
Millennials don't understand the real world.
Now, I see similar narratives directed at Gen Z.
They don't want to work.
They're too sensitive. They expect too much.
But every generation enters the workforce shaped by a different world with new technology, shifting expectations, and pressures we didn’t experience ourselves.
We don't get to reshape the world and then question how they learn to move within it.
As leaders today, we have a choice: complain about what's changing or invest in who's coming next.
I chose the latter.
I didn't build Detroit Promotions simply to create great marketing (although we do that too). I built it to create opportunity—for local businesses, for our community, and for the people coming up behind us who are eager to learn, if only someone opens the door.
That mindset shows up in how we invite young professionals into our business. They're not here to shadow; they contribute. They help manage accounts, build content strategies, and see what it means to support—and sometimes create—a brand.
Beyond that, we mentor students through Walsh College's Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, serve on the Macomb Community College Business Advisory Board, pilot leadership programs, and more.
And just as importantly, we offer what many young professionals are looking for: someone who wholeheartedly believes in them.
Because while the return on investing in people isn't immediate, it's powerful.
It shows up when a former intern lands their first role and finally feels confident, or when a young entrepreneur launches something they once thought was "just an idea."
At Detroit Promotions, we're proud to invest in brands.
We're proud to invest in community.
But most importantly, we're proud to invest in people.
Because the future isn't something we wait for. It's something we invest in.

FOUR SIMPLE WAYS TO INVEST IN YOUR MORNING AND START YOUR DAY OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

One of the best ways to invest in yourself is by creating a consistent and intentional morning routine. No matter how unpredictable or chaotic the rest of your day may become, starting your morning with self-care and purpose sets a positive tone that stays with you throughout the day. Once you develop a morning routine that truly resonates with you, you’ll look forward to it every night, knowing it will set the foundation for a productive and fulfilling day.
If you’re ready to elevate your mornings, here are some meaningful ways to invest in your routine and start each day on the right foot.

One of life’s simplest pleasures is savoring a homemade coffee each morning. While skipping the drivethru may be tough at first, brewing your own allows you to appreciate the process—and chances are, you’ll end up preferring your own perfect cup of joe.

An hour-long gym session before work may not be realistic, but a quick morning walk is. Use this time to clear your mind, enjoy nature, and listen to your favorite podcast or artist—an easy way to start your day feeling relaxed.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet often the most overlooked. Setting your alarm just minutes earlier to prepare a fresh, nutritious meal can transform your morning, fueling your body and mind for a more energized and productive day.
Starting your day with a book is far more calming than scrolling through social media. Reading in the morning helps ease you into the day, providing a peaceful and mindful escape that sets a positive, focused tone for what’s ahead.
