It’s Dad Season, y’all. And since Roaring Fork Lifestyle devoted a special issue to local moms last year, we’re doing one for all the terrific dads out there this year. Father’s Day is June 20, and we’ve filled this issue with inspiration for making it a memorable one. Whether you’re a new dad with an infant at home, a grandfather with a gaggle of grandkids, or any kind of father-figure in a young person’s life, we hope you feel loved, appreciated, and celebrated this month. Cheers!

DANCE INITIATIVE RESIDENCY WITH NETTA YERUSHALMY JUNE 21-26 Netta Yerushalmy is an award-winning dance artist who grew up in Israel and is now based in New York City. Her work aims to engage with audiences by imparting the sensation of things as they are perceived, not as they are known, and to challenge how meaning is attributed and constructed. During her company’s residency with Dance Initiative from June 21-26, they’ll be generating a complex trio that looks at multiplicity in movement forms. Three events will be open to the public during the residency. At 5 p.m. on June 23 a film presentation of “Distant Dance Demonstration” and discussion will be held at Axkawa, followed by cocktail hour (no reserva-

FUNDRAISER FOR GLENWOOD CANYON UNDERWAY The Grizzly Creek Fire of 2020 was a singular event, but restoration will be part of our community's identity for years to come. Just 10 days after the fire was ignited, Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers launched the Glenwood Canyon Restoration Alliance, a collaboration of local government, non-profit, and business partners. A fundraising campaign with the goal of reaching $100,000 in donations is running through June 20. Several community partners have already pledged funds. Alpine Bank is matching the first $25,000 dollar-for-dollar, Black Hills Energy has committed $12,000, and Western Colorado

It’s more important than ever to work with your Realtor to navigate the current market. Strong buyer demand and limited housing supply show no signs of easing soon, pointing to a continuation of this market trend through spring and into summer.

CULINARY CREATIONS

FATH E R’ S DAY E AT S WHAT’S ON THE MENU FOR YOUR FAMILY THIS JUNE 20? Although the classic Father’s Day backyard BBQ is always a great choice for celebrating Dad and Granddad, it might be fun to mix things up a little and incorporate some new culinary treats throughout the day. Here are a few ideas to get you started—and who knows, maybe they’ll even become your new household traditions. Go big!

BAGEL BRUNCH: An elegant self-serve platter in the middle of the table can be loaded with all the trimmings: everything bagels, cream cheese, lox or smoked salmon, slivered red onion, capers, rounds of ripe tomato, and a mound of fragrant fresh dill. Thinly sliced radishes, cucumbers, and avocado make a nice touch, too. BACON BLOODY MARYS: Nothing

screams “party!” quite like an extravagant Bloody Mary laden with savory snacks. Mix your cocktails and top with celery sticks, olives, cherry tomatoes, cornichons or dill pickle spears, grilled shrimp, pickled okra, parsley sprigs, lemon wedges, and of course, strips of fatty bacon. CONTINUED >

MEGA SUNDAES: Satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth with over-the-top ice cream sundaes. Serve multiple varieties of ice cream alongside toppings like whipped cream, maraschino cherries, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, crushed cookies or candy bars, fresh berries, nuts, crushed peppermints, coconut, and chocolate or caramel drizzle. BEER TASTING: Organize a sampling

station with Roaring Fork Valley and Colorado-made beers. Set them up from mild to most intense. If you have a few guest tasters in attendance, write up cards to detail each beer’s name, town of origin, and flavor profile. Offer simple nibbles like pretzels or crackers.

ANY PARENT WILL TELL YOU IT’S BEEN A LONG, LOOONG YEAR DURING COVID. Although many have managed to find creative, safe ways to stay active and engaged during the pandemic, there’s still nothing like getting out for activities with other people like we used to do. This month, the valley’s beloved summer events are slowly coming back to life, and there are even a few new ones in the mix. If Dad’s itching to get out of the house, send him to one of these community happenings in June. Just be mindful of current Covid guidelines—you know the drill—and make sure Mom gets some time to herself, too!

little coaching from our guide.

A GUIDED FLY FISHING TRIP WITH YOUR SON. My son, Trevor, and I recently decided to take advantage of the skill and guidance of Ryan Davis from Hookers Fly Shop in Glenwood Springs for a full day of fishing fun on the Roaring Fork. As usual, Trevor scored a couple nice rainbows first, and then the bragging and ribbing started. A smile on his face, he lifted an 18-inch trout to the camera and said, “Game on old man." (Me. Ha.) His smile was short-lived because his Dad then hooked up something that took a deep run downstream. Ryan coached me to keep the fish out of the deep swift water and turn him back to the boat. Trev and I boated about 10-12 nice rainbows and browns each that day--catch and release, of course. It was tremendously fun.
