LIFESTYLE LETTER
A New Year, A Deeper You January has always felt like a quiet reset for me. The world slows down just enough for us to notice the things that we’ve ignored while we were rushing from one moment to the next. And in that stillness, something softer happens—we finally hear ourselves again. This issue is an invitation to return to your center. Not the version of wellness that pressures us, but the one that brings us back home to who we really are. For me, real health has never been just about the body. It’s the way your thoughts shape your day before your feet even touch the floor. It’s how your body responds when you treat it with kindness instead of criticism. It’s the peace that comes when your soul feels seen, heard, and allowed to take up space. When your mind, body, and soul are connected, life simply moves differently. There’s more clarity, more openness, and more courage to choose what truly feels right for you—not what the world insists should be right. This month, we’re highlighting the people and businesses in our community who understand that wellness is personal and who remind us that taking care of ourselves is not just about living longer, it’s about living better, deeper, and more intentionally. As you flip through these pages, I hope something awakens in you—a gentle reminder to check in with yourself, to soften a little, to honor what you need as you step into a brand-new year. Here’s to beginning 2026 aligned from the inside out. Here’s to clarity, vitality, and a mind-body-soul connection that carries you through the rest of the year with strength and grace.

HE A LT H Y H A IR,
HAPPY YOU HAIR HEALTH STARTS INSIDE: EXPERT ADVICE FROM CRYSTAL LEISNER, MERAKI HAIR & BODY
When it comes to starting the New Year refreshed, most people think about diet, exercise, and a little decluttering, but your hair also deserves its moment of renewal. At Meraki Hair & Body (merakihairandbody.com), stylist and owner Crystal Leisner believes that truly gorgeous hair is CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / R E D R O C K

rooted in overall wellness, from what’s on your plate to the products you apply daily. “Real hair health starts on the inside. Your internal health and diet, and blood are what feed your hair growth,” Crystal said. “Vitamins, minerals, stress, surgeries and your diet, all of these things play out and show in the hair. We can’t make the hair healthier on the outside than it originally grew on the inside.” The basics? Hydration, healthy fats, and protein are key. “Drink your water, eat your protein, have an avocado, eat some salmon. Go get sushi! Omegas are amazing for healthy hair and scalp. Proteins are great for hair, building strength and healthy fats for moisture retention,” Crystal encouraged.
THE PERSONAL APPROACH: ASSESSING INDIVIDUAL NEEDS
No two heads of hair are alike—and Crystal’s method hinges on understanding every client’s unique story. “When I have a new client in my chair and we are talking about hair health, first we start with the physical appearance. How does the hair look? Then we move to how does the hair feel?” she said. “Then we move to the questions of what are you using at home? What is your daily morning routine?

“REAL HAIR HEALTH STARTS ON THE INSIDE. YOUR INTERNAL HEALTH AND DIET FEED YOUR H A IR GROW T H.”
What/how did your hair used to be? What do you want it to be, in a perfect world?” This individualized process involves taking a holistic hair history, considering lifestyle factors, and being realistic about what can and can’t change. “We’re going to go through data collection,” she explained, “and then we talk about lifestyle, what are the things that we can’t change? What are the things that maybe we can change?” Crystal’s philosophy focuses on precision: “If we change five things all at once, we’re not going to know what is actually helping and what is hurting or maybe just unnecessary. So, sometimes it’s a little bit slower of an approach, but it’s usually much more precise or calculated.”
BRIDGING INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WELLNESS
Although Crystal won’t prescribe miracle products or suggest one-size-fits-all vitamins, “everybody is different, so I can’t point to one product or supplement I swear by,” she firmly advocates for a balanced approach. “If we can identify what’s causing the problem or what’s missing, then we can supplement what will help. And if we can address it through food or diet, even better,” she said. For those living busy, modern lives, Crystal is a realist: “There are certain things that we can’t change, certain medications or lifestyles that are just not going to change, and I am very real about those things. I’m not going to tell you, ‘You don’t have a choice, you have to change those,’ but I might say, ‘You don’t have a choice, this is what your hair is going to do as a reaction to something else that we cannot change.’ So, let’s make the best of it.” Then, they get to work in the salon.
SALON SOLUTIONS: PERSONALIZED CARE FOR EVERY CLIENT
At each appointment, Crystal starts by consulting on your hair’s appearance, texture, and history, before diving into personalized care. She creates custom plans that may include regular trims, targeted treatments like deep conditioners and shine glazes, and recommends professional home-care hero products such as leave-in conditioners and heat protectant. For color clients, Crystal favors gentle techniques and products tailored to hair CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / R E D R O C K

type, always factoring in the reality of each client’s lifestyle and goals. Her personalized, step-by-step approach ensures every treatment aligns with your unique needs and overall well-being. “Hair health is number one, we can’t color what we don’t have.”
EXTERNAL HABITS THAT REALLY MATTER
When it comes to keeping hair healthy between salon visits, Crystal is outspoken about leave-in conditioner and heat protection. “The most important thing that I think absolutely everybody can and should need and use, especially here in the desert, but truthfully everywhere, is a leave-in conditioner. This does so much more than just detangle. It is putting that moisture back into your hair. It is protecting it from environmental factors. It is like the lotion that you put on your hands or skin. It is the glass of water that you drink,” she emphasized. As people shampoo less and style more, Crystal warns that “moisture is not being put back in.” Even on days between washes, “You can reapply a leave-in conditioner or a dry conditioner or

something that is putting moisture back into the hair. Oils are not necessarily giving you moisture…they are softening and sitting on the outside of the cuticle.” She’s also firm on the science side: “You cannot just leave your rinse out conditioner in your hair, they are formulated differently. You need both. Leave-in conditioner should be your first product before anything else.” Heat protection is just as critical: “Heat is pulling moisture out of the hair, frying and drying it out and possibly pulling out your hair color. A heat protectant is literally working
“LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER DOES SO MUCH MORE THAN DETANGLE. IT ADDS MOISTURE, PROTECTS FROM ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, AND ACTS LIKE LOTION FOR YOUR HAIR— E S S E N T I A L F OR HE A LT H Y H A IR C A R E.” to essentially preserve your hair. It’s also going to preserve your color. Every time you add another layer of heat, you need to add another layer of heat protectant.”
THE SECRET: LITTLE STEPS AND LOTS OF PATIENCE
For those eager for a quick fix, Crystal playfully confirms, “Leave-in conditioner (UNITE 7 Seconds Detangler), internal gut
health, eat a vegetable, a protein, and drink water. Get regular haircuts to keep ends strong. Smoothing, conditioning, and shine treatments can help, it’s like topcoat for the hair.” Ultimately, Crystal says, “Healthy Hair is a journey. It comes from many factors. The answers aren’t always obvious, and we often need to piece them together and learn by trial and error. However, together we can find the best solutions and styles for you.”

“SMALL, DAILY HABITS are the key TO SUSTAINABLE WELLNESS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, building momentum ONE STEP AT A TIME.”
38
H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | H E ALT H + WE LLN E SS
January is the perfect time to embrace fresh wellness goals that are simple, effective, and sustainable throughout the year. Starting small with manageable habits is the key to long-term success, making healthy living accessible for everyone. Starting new wellness habits can feel challenging, but every small step matters and builds momentum. Remember, this journey isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress and caring for yourself in practical ways that fit into your lifestyle. You don’t need dramatic changes overnight; steady,
consistent actions create lasting transformation. Imagine the positive effects on your energy, mood, and overall wellbeing as you embrace these simple habits. The first step is often the hardest, but once taken, it opens the door to a healthier, more vibrant you. Your commitment to yourself is the most powerful motivation on this path. 1. Drink More Water - Hydration is vital for every function in the body, from digestion to energy levels. Set a daily water goal, such as eight 8-ounce glasses, to help improve your mood, concentration, and skin health. Keeping a reusable water bottle handy acts as a reminder to sip throughout the day. Drinking more water supports joint lubrication, waste elimination, and temperature regulation. 2. Take Daily Walks - Walking is a low impact, natural way to increase physical activity without a gym membership. Even 10-15 minutes around the block can improve cardiovascular health, boost endorphins, and clear the mind. Making it a daily routine, especially outdoors, enhances benefits with exposure to fresh air and natural light. For an extra boost, consider longer walks on weekends or gentle hikes in nature. 3. Prioritize Sleep Hygiene - Good quality sleep rejuvenates the body and mind and supports immune function. Aim for consistent bedtimes by creating a calming pre-sleep routine: dim the lights, avoid screens for 30 minutes, and try relaxing activities like reading or meditation. Sleeping well helps regulate hormones and improves memory, emotional balance, and overall health. 4. Mindful Breathing Breaks - Stress management is an essential part of wellness. Taking a few moments daily for deep, mindful breaths can reduce anxiety and increase focus. Try a simple breathing exercise: inhale slowly for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four. Repeat as needed to calm the mind and improve concentration. Incorporating mindfulness practices like meditation or gentle stretching can also support mental wellbeing. 5. Add More Vegetables - Incorporating extra servings of colorful vegetables into meals boosts nutrient intake and supports heart and gut health. CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . “WE FINALLY HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO RECREATE A TRUE COCKTAIL EXPERIENCE WITHOUT ALCOHOL.”
Dry January marks a growing shift toward mindful drinking, and Las Vegas is embracing this movement with Sin City Saints, the city’s first dedicated adult nonalcoholic beverage shop. Founded by Eryn Korby, aka “Korby,” Sin City Saints delivers a boutique experience where locals can discover premium zero-proof spirits, wines, and brews. Each offering is thoughtfully curated to redefine mindful drinking in a city celebrated for its nightlife. With more than 20 years as a bartender, Korby’s personal journey of embracing zero-proof options inspired Sin City Saints. “We finally have the technology to recreate a true cocktail experience without alcohol,” she says. Sin City Saints is not about mocktails but about elevated, intentional drinks that can hold their own on any cocktail menu. This approach fills a niche in Vegas, a city traditionally tied to hard partying but now increasingly embracing wellness and sophisticated alcohol-free options. Sin City Saints goes beyond retail. It is backed by Saints Beverage Group, Nevada’s first zero-proof beverage consultancy and brokerage. Korby works with bars and restaurants to build mindful drinking programs, providing menu development, training, education, and premium brand placements. choice for many, venues that treat these drinks as serious cocktails—balanced, complex, and creative—are the ones setting themselves apart. Among Korby’s favorite brands featured at Sin City Saints are Amethyst Zero Proof, with botanical profiles that mirror classic spirits, and Dromme Calm, an herbaceous spirit infused with adaptogens and nootropics perfect for wellness-minded consumers. Also popular is Plaid Circus, a tea-based spirit with layered, creative flavors, alongside Austrian dealcoholized wines from Zeronimo and Australian NON verjus-based wine alternative, crafted to pair beautifully with fine dining. Korby herself has crafted signature zero-proof cocktails such as her Lavender Espresso Martini, which has developed a local following, and pre-batched cocktails that help bars smoothly launch zero-proof programs without needing to master new mixology skills from scratch. These innovations help venues meet growing demand and guest expectations for quality zero-proof offerings. For those trying Dry January for the first time, Korby offers uplifting advice: “Start by exploring, not restricting. You don’t

have to give up the ritual; upgrade it.” Whether unwinding after work, hosting friends, or attending a party, Sin City Saints helps people find the drink that fits them best, from easy spritzers to smoky, complex whiskey alternatives. The shop makes discovering alcohol-free options fun, creative, and judgment-free. January also marks two years since Korby launched Sin City Saints—perfect timing to introduce her new House of Saints. This upcoming venture, launching early 2026, will offer a more designdriven, ultra-premium zero-proof experience for luxury markets in the Southwest and Mountain West, including Scottsdale, Aspen, and Park City. Sin City Saints will remain the core, public face of her mission to bring mindful drinking into everyday life for Las Vegas locals. A standout featured cocktail is “Smoke & Zenfire,” which combines the tea-based Plaid Circus Kimono Dragon with lemon aperitif, smoky agave, blood orange syrup, and a hint of habanero tincture for a warming kick, topped with a splash of lemon seltzer. Another specialty, “Big Apple Spice,” provides a wintry take on a classic Manhattan, featuring zero-proof whiskey alternatives,

herbal amaro, bitters, and apple spice syrup rimmed with golden sugar and garnished with fresh apple slices. The broader beverage industry reflects this shift, with national trends showing that nearly 40% of consumers now abstain from alcohol or reduce consumption, driven largely by Gen Z and millennials who prioritize health, wellness, and functionality. Functional drinks like adaptogen mocktails, enhanced hydration beverages, and nonalcoholic spirits are now essential menu items—not novelties. These offerings help Vegas bars and restaurants meet the demand for inclusion and wellness year-round. Sin City Saints embodies a local response to these changing preferences, inviting Las Vegas residents to embrace mindful drinking as a choice of sophistication, health, and community. The shop turns sober December or Dry January into an opportunity for discovery, helping people craft intentional experiences without the alcohol but with all the flavor, ritual, and fun. For those interested in embracing mindful drinking this year and beyond, Sin City Saints offers a welcoming gateway to a rich world of alcohol-free spirits, wines, and brews designed to enhance celebrations, social moments, and everyday life in Las Vegas. Visit the boutique in the Arts District or shop online to discover what the future of mindful drinking really tastes like.

For many, the start of a new year calls for reflection on how to improve different areas of life. From eating better and moving more to decluttering and organizing, we set goals with the hope of creating a healthier, happier life. One area that significantly affects success in achieving these goals is financial health. Mike Bajorek is a Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor and Wealth Strategist with Priority Wealth Partners and has witnessed firsthand the negative consequences of financial stress. “There have been studies that show financial struggles are a major contributor to increased divorce rates, sleep problems, anger issues, and alcohol and drug dependency,” Mike explained. “It has a dramatic impact on overall health. When financial issues increase, so do stress levels.” The domino effect only exacerbates the very health issues and lifestyle habits people are trying to reverse. As Mike noted, most individuals who understand the importance of better financial health aren’t lacking motivation, they’re lacking access to the resources that make change possible.
“They want success but don’t know the steps to take to get there,” he added. “They may have spent time searching the internet or taking advice from friends or relatives that likely didn’t work out for them.” Fortunately, these resources do exist and one of the most impactful is the guidance of a financial wealth manager, who is “not only experienced advisors but also have the ability to subjectively assess the clients’ needs to create a plan customized to their current lives.” This involves a “great wealth manager” identifying habits and studying the financial details, Mike said. In theory, a good plan to take control of your finances and secure financial health is a solid starting point, but is not enough. “A properly crafted plan encompasses both the physical and emotional parts of the financial goals,” he stressed. “When a plan is too comprehensive too soon, it might be seen as too difficult to follow.” If a plan is neglected simply because it feels too challenging, the chances of success are slim. “The best plan in the world is useless if not acted upon. It has to be fluid and scalable as clients’ lives progress.” A wealth manager
has the necessary skill set and experience to be flexible and work with, not against, a client’s shifting needs and life changes to combat this. Overspending, common in a modern society preoccupied with material possessions, is influenced by the emotional desire to shower loved ones with things and keep up with everyone else. “When you struggle with this, it’s important to align yourself with a good wealth manager. Someone,” Mike said, “who can be your accountability partner.” Mike approaches his work with a personal touch, inviting even prospective clients to sit down with him, whether in person or via video. “It’s an important step in the process [of choosing the right wealth manager], as this may be someone you work with for the rest of your life.” Customized plans are crafted for every client in a collaborative effort. “There is so
much more to people than just the numbers,” he said. His process involves investments and strategies that “need to be in alignment with other life components for them to be in sync moving forward.” In simple terms, wealth managers do everything they can to help put your money to work for you as much as you work for it. Once you arrive at this point, “life gets easier. [People] can shift their focus towards other activities and goals instead of feeling drained by constant financial pressure.” “This,” Mike said, “is when life becomes more fun.” Disclaimer: The information provided in this article is for general educational purposes only and should not be considered financial advice. These raw vegan Superfood Granola Bars are just the thing to keep you nourished through busy mornings, mid-day cravings, or post-workout hunger. Su p e rfo o d G ra n ol a B a r s Ingredients • 1 cup rolled oats • 1 cup pitted Medjool dates (about 10–12), softened in warm water • 1/3 cup sliced almonds • 1/3 cup raw pumpkin seeds • 1/3 cup dried cranberries • 2 tablespoons chia seeds • 2 tablespoons ground flax seeds • 2 tablespoons almond butter or cashew butter • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or raw agave nectar • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • Pinch of sea salt • Optional: 1 tablespoon finely grated orange peel or 1/4 cup chopped dried apricots for a citrus or tangy twist Directions 1. Line an 8x8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal. 2. In a food processor, pulse oats, dates, almond butter, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt until the mixture clumps together but still has some texture. It should hold when pressed between your fingers. 3. Add almonds, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, chia, flax seeds, and optional orange peel or apricot pieces. Pulse a few more times to combine while keeping visible bits of nuts and fruit. 4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared dish and press it evenly into the corners using the back of a spatula. For a firmer texture, place the pan in the fridge for 1–2 hours. 5. Lift out the chilled mixture using the parchment overhang and slice it into bars or squares. 6. For granola energy balls, roll tablespoon-sized portions between your palms into compact rounds. Chill until firm.
“Packed with oats, dates, and superfood seeds, these raw vegan bars deliver pure, lasting energy—perfect for powering busy mornings or healthy snacking.”
Store your freshly made granola snacks in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for longer freshness. They make an energizing breakfast companion or afternoon pick-meup—a wholesome habit you’ll actually want to keep beyond January.

FITNESS Fitness doesn’t have to be a complicated or intimidating pursuit. In fact, some of the most effective workouts require nothing more than your own body and a little bit of space. For many, the idea of going to a gym or buying equipment creates barriers that keep them from moving regularly. But with just a few basic bodyweight exercises, you

can build strength, improve mobility, and boost your energy right at home. The best part? These moves are beginner-friendly, easy to modify, and can fit into even the busiest schedules. Starting a new fitness habit can feel daunting, but remember, it’s about progress, not perfection. Every movement you commit to builds momentum and confidence. Whether you have 10 minutes or 30, consistency matters, and it all adds up. That first step opens the door to a healthier, stronger you. Caring for yourself through movement is one of the most powerful ways to support both mental and physical wellness.
BODYWEIGHT SQUATS
Squats strengthen your legs, glutes, and core. Stand with feet hip-width apart, lower your hips back and down like sitting in a chair, keeping knees behind toes. Return to standing. Aim for 2 sets of 10-15 reps. Use a chair for support if needed.
WALL PUSH-UPS
Wall push-ups are a gentle upper body exercise that builds chest, shoulder, and arm strength. Stand facing a wall with hands shoulder-width apart, lean forward lowering your chest toward the wall, then push back. Do 2 sets of 10-15 reps. Increase difficulty by stepping further from the wall as strength grows.
SEATED LEG LIFTS
Sit on a sturdy chair with back straight. Lift one leg straight out, hold for a few seconds, lower slowly. Repeat 10-15 times per leg. This strengthens lower abs and thighs and can improve balance.
STANDING CALF RAISES
Stand tall near a wall or chair for balance, rise onto your tiptoes slowly, hold briefly, then lower heels back down. Do 2 sets of 15-20 reps. Calf raises strengthen lower legs and improve circulation. CONTINUED >

GENTLE STRETCHING
End each session with gentle stretches to improve flexibility and relax muscles: neck rolls, shoulder shrugs, hamstring stretches, and side bends. Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds and breathe deeply. These exercises require no special gear and can be done anywhere, perfect for starting or restarting an exercise routine. Start slow, listen to your body, and celebrate each small victory. Regular movement enhances energy, mood, and overall wellbeing year-round.

S E R V ING OUR K ID S FIGHTING CHILD HUNGER BY HELPING KIDS THRIVE WITH RELIABLE NUTRITION
ARTICLE BY ELAINE AND SCOTT HARRIS PHOTOGRAPHY BY SERVING OUR KIDS FOUNDATION
62
K I D S M E N U | L I FE + C ULT U RE
When funding for feeding Southern Nevada’s most vulnerable children was halted, the strain was felt across the valley. In the absence of dependable support, Serving Our Kids Foundation (servingourkids.org) stepped up to help fill the gap for food-insecure families, making a real difference in the lives of thousands. Founded in 2013, Serving Our Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to ensuring children can dream about the future, not just about food. “Hungry kids don’t dream of the future. They dream of food. We’re feeding
their dreams,” affirms CEO Laurie Tanakaya. The foundation’s regular meal bag program delivers hope and sustenance to at-risk youth through a broad coalition of donors, advocates, and volunteers. Every week, volunteers make sure no child has to go without food over the weekend. “We are very fortunate to have a large, dedicated group of volunteers helping ‘Serving Our Kids.’ Each week we pack and deliver weekend meal bags to 100 Clark County, K-8th grade schools. Funding is critical to our mission,” Laurie says, emphasizing the necessity of ongoing community support. The impact of stable meals is profound. Nutritious food is the foundation of children’s mental focus, academic growth, and social development. Numerous studies show that kids with reliable access to healthy meals attend school more often, participate more fully, and perform better in class. When hunger is removed from the equation, children are better able to learn, overcome challenges, and thrive, both in and out of school. As the nonprofit says, “Children are the center of our universe. And we value the health, well-being and future of every child. As crusaders in the never-ending battle against child hunger, our values help give us the strength to keep fighting, to keep driving forward and serving more kids.” When school is out, access to reliable meals disappears, putting many children at risk of hunger. “Summertime, when school is not in session, is a challenge. During the year we partner directly with the schools and their administration. Long term, we hope to develop partnerships that can help with a summertime solution,” Laurie explains.
Volunteers are still the backbone of Serving Our Kids. Locals can register online to help assemble bags at the warehouse on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Skilled professionals in areas like marketing or technical trades are also encouraged to assist with community events. David Archer, Executive Director, oversees daily operations and seeks new partnerships to keep the program thriving. The need remains urgent. Each day, more than 100,000 children in Clark County face food insecurity. While school meal programs offer relief during the week, few extend help to weekends, making Serving Our Kids critical to bridge that gap. Laurie’s conviction carries forward: “I am proud to serve as a full-time volunteer CEO. One child at a time; we will take steps to end child hunger in our community.” For many families, the foundation is more than a food source, it is a promise of a brighter future. As Southern Nevada continues to face possible funding delays and uncertainty, Serving Our Kids Foundation proves that local action, compassion, and partnership can help protect children’s health and well-being, one meal at a time.
