Invest

Let's have a conversation about something we all do, often without even realizing it – investing. Now, I'm not just talking stocks and bonds here. Investing is all about pouring our heart, soul, and sometimes our wallets into something we care about, all in the hope of seeing something beautiful come out of it. It's about creating a future that's just a little bit brighter, a little bit richer, and a whole lot more fulfilling.

Think about it. When we support our local boutiques, cafes, and schools, or when we roll up our sleeves to volunteer, we're not just giving back – we're investing in the fabric of our community. It's like planting seeds in a garden we all share, watching it bloom into something spectacular.

Now, onto a favorite topic for many of us here: finances. Whether it's smart investing or planning for that dream retirement, we're all about making moves that secure our future and let us live the life we've always imagined.

But here's the thing that really hits home – investing in our families and relationships. I remember this one time I'll never forget a summer evening walk that led me to a children's lemonade stand. Their joy in that simple venture and the shared smiles over a cup of homemade lemonade reminded me of the profound impact of cherishing small moments with loved ones. It was a powerful lesson in the value of supporting and investing in those around us.

So, in this issue, we're diving deep into the art of investing – and I mean all kinds of investing. From community initiatives that are making a real difference, to legal tips that'll make you feel like a Wall Street whiz, and stories of personal connections that remind us of what's truly important. We've got it all!

Remember, how we choose to invest our time, energy, and resources might look different for each of us, but the end goal is the same – to make a positive, lasting impact on our lives and the lives of those around us.

Remember to support local and invest in our community!

From my heart to yours,

April 2024

JAGUAR’S ELECTRIFYING CHAPTER

Investing in the past and the future before gas-powered Jags reach the end of the road

It was Enzo Ferrari who called the 1962 Jaguar E-Type “the most beautiful car in the world.”

Now more than half a century later, this iconic vehicle is gearing up for a new chapter in the ever-evolving landscape of the automotive industry.

“I tell people if they are thinking of getting a Jaguar, get it now.”

“Change is coming for the legendary Jaguar and it’s coming fast. And right now is the time to hold on to this piece of history before it’s gone forever,” said Ray DiNardi, Centre Manager of Jaguar Las Vegas. His dealership, located at 6425 Roy Horn Way, is currently the exclusive retailer of Jaguar vehicles in the state of Nevada.

Like many other automakers, Jaguar's global shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) came as no surprise to DiNardi, who has decades of experience in this industry. He said the luxury brand's sustainable transition is the wave of the future and will offer a great opportunity to cater to clients who are both concerned about the environment and looking to invest

in technologically advanced products. But DiNardi admits this transition has been bittersweet.

"The company recently announced it would discontinue the F-Type following the 2024 model year," said DiNardi. "The Jaguar F-Type, a high-performance 2-seater sports car is a modern take on the iconic E-Type from the 1960's. This transition means the company will eliminate every gas-powered combustion vehicle in the current line-up."

“I tell people if they are thinking of getting a Jaguar, they better get it now,” said Jenine Rogers, a Las Vegas-based Realtor who, throughout her life, has owned three Jaguars. She was in her 20’s and living in Southern California when she bought her first Jag.

“I was actually taking in my Mercedes for a service and that’s when I saw a Jaguar XK 8 Convertible in the dealership,” said Rogers. “It was navy blue and gorgeous. I knew I had to have it. I always joke that I drove in my Mercedes for maintenance and nine hours later, I came home with a Jaguar.”

Speed up to present day, Rogers is now a proud owner of two Jaguars. One is an XK used as an everyday vehicle. The other is on  the race track, as this self-proclaimed "The Racing Realtor" uses her latest Jaguar, the F-Type R 575, purchased from the Jaguar Las Vegas dealership in August of 2023.  She said it is a little sad to hear that the Jaguar will soon go all electric because the vehicle that she loves will never be the same.

“If they don’t make them anymore, they will definitely become more valuable,” said Rogers. “It’s a luxury car that should cost more but doesn’t. It looks great and sounds great. When I drive my Jag, I get so many compliments. The body of the Jaguar is so unique and I feel amazing when I am in the car.”

For vintage car collector, entrepreneur, and Las Vegas native, Joel Laub, he said his love for Jaguars began when he saw his first XK120.

"I loved the body and the sounds of the engine. I thought the XKE's of the early to late 60's were one of the most beautiful cars ever built," said Laub who is the owner of Joel Laub & Associates and developer of the Reserve at Red Rock Canyon. "I bought my first Jaguar about 30 years ago, an XK 120 rally car and still own it. Now I own seven Jaguars."

When it comes to Jaguar's pending shift to the world of electric vehicles, Laub says he's still not sure what the future will hold for his beloved classic luxury brand.

“We are excited for the changes to come but we hope car enthusiasts understand that we are at a very unique point in global automotive history.”

"I’m a gearhead so internal combustion is in my bones, I’m not sure how electric cars will fare in the future," said Laub. "The infrastructure hasn’t caught up with the production numbers and the range has to increase to be viable. I have a feeling it will settle on the Hybrid in the end. I would recommend anyone to buy an internal combustion engine Jaguar while you can and keep it forever."

For DiNardi, he sees the benefits of both investing in the past AND the future when it comes to Jaguars. With electric vehicles now at the forefront of innovation, Jaguar is positioning itself to be the next key player in the global EV market. As the brand vows to keep up its long-standing reputation for performance and elegance, it will also preserve its legacy while

embracing modern and sustainable technology. But DiNardi said customers who want to ensure a piece of history lives on in their personal collection, this is also the time to come see him at his dealership before the gas-powered Jags reach the end of the road.

“Jaguar has a rich history known for a combination of performance, luxury, and heritage," said DiNardi. "So, as we look to a very different future for the brand, we understand the positive impact that electric vehicles will bring. We are excited for the changes to come but we hope car enthusiasts understand that we are at a very unique point in global automotive history. If anyone is looking to own a piece of Jaguar history, this is the time to do it and we are here to help."

Seize LimitedTime Estate Planning Tax Advantages

Capitalize on high exemptions, ensuring savings and peace of mind

Despite the gridlock in Washington, D.C., and the uncertainties of the upcoming election, taxpayers presently have a known window of opportunity to minimize estate and gift taxes. The estate and gift tax exemption is at a historic high and is set to increase moderately in the next year. Importantly, however, this exemption amount has a sunset date, leaving a limited opportunity to secure significant tax savings.

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) raised the estate and gift tax exemption so that in 2024, the amount was $13.61 million per person or $27.22 million for a married couple. The TCJA is set to expire at the end of 2025 and anticipating what action Congress may take, especially in an election year, is speculative. Given the uncertainties and the possibility that Congress would make changes retroactive to the beginning of 2025, the window of certainty to act is the calendar year 2024, especially if taking full advantage of your exemption and minimizing estate tax is a priority.

Notably, if you use some or all the existing exemption amount before January 1, 2026, those transfers cannot later be considered taxable if the exemption amount is reduced. As well, if you use more exemptions during your life than is available at the time of your death because of a future reduction, with very few exceptions, the IRS cannot impose tax on the excess transfers.

Gifting strategies to use your existing exemption might include creating a Spousal Lifetime Access Trust (SLAT) or establishing irrevocable trusts for descendants. A SLAT uses your exemption amount to create

an irrevocable trust and provides flexibility for your spouse to receive trust income. An irrevocable trust benefiting younger generations can be an especially effective way to transfer appreciating assets. By gifting assets now, you can fully take advantage of the high exemption amounts that will disappear once the current law sunsets.

Just remember, effective planning takes time. It is important that you understand key provisions and limitations of sophisticated trust planning and that

your lifetime and for your beneficiaries. Talk to your estate planning attorney soon to discuss the options that will give you the peace of mind you deserve.

Michael I. Kling, founder of Kling Law Offices, has more than 30 years of experience providing financial, estate planning, asset protection, and business planning services including estate planning, wills, trusts, probate, trust administration, asset protection, business, and tax and corporate law.

CONSCIOUS TRAVEL: MAUI

INVESTING IN RESPECTFUL VACATIONING TO EMBRACE COMMUNITIES AND HELP THEM RECOVER

I am one of the many people who love Maui. I remember visiting as a child and delighting in the beauty, exploration, and wonder that unfolds around every corner. The enchantment persisted into adulthood, as I strolled through Lahaina's charming streets, savored Mai Tais against Kaanapali's sunset hues, and embraced the magic of getting engaged at the Pools of ‘Ohe’o (aka Seven Sacred Pools) after ascending the road to Hana. Maui, with its allure and magic, has always held a special place in my heart.

TRAVEL JOURNAL | TRAVEL 42

Then came the devastating fires in August 2023, resulting in the loss of loved ones, pets, homes, schools, cultural and historical sites, and businesses. The fires burned much of Lahaina to the ground, destroying almost 3,000 structures, and claiming over 100 lives, making it one of the world’s deadliest wildfires on record.

In the aftermath, there were discouraging messages that urged tourists to stay away from the island. Such advice, though well-intentioned, was misguided. While the fires had a devastating impact, avoiding tourism exacerbates the challenges faced by businesses, the local economy, and, consequently, the locals. More than 800 businesses were affected, contributing to an unemployment rate increase from 2.5 percent before the fires to 6.2 percent in November 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Closed for residents' respect and ongoing cleanup, Lahaina contrasts with much of the island relying on visitors’ patronage. The fires ignited heartache for Maui, and Las Vegas - widely known as the Ninth Island due to its substantial Hawaiian populationstands as a crucial support network for those affected. Your neighbors' families and friends may have been impacted, additionally, many who lost homes have relocated to the valley. With this in mind, I decided to contribute to the recovery by raising awareness and extending assistance with sensitivity. I urge you to join in cultivating the aloha spirit by investing and extending compassion. Your mindful visit can play a crucial role in providing support.

Embarking on this conscious travel journey, my husband, three children, and I set foot on Maui earlier this year and began our trip by volunteering in-service of the recovery.

Engaging as a family with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement at the Kākoʻo Maui DC-Distribution Center, a resource hub for communities affected by the Maui wildfires ( hawaiiancouncil.org/ helpmaui), became a transformative experience. Tasked with sorting clothing and donated goods, our interactions with impacted residents were deeply meaningful. Many were seeking assistance for the first time, prompting us to approach them with the utmost dignity and respect. We discussed their supply needs, while learning about their losses and challenges. In the role of personal shoppers, we selected essential items such as food, pots and pans, rice cookers, baby formula, feminine products, toiletries, cleaning supplies, backpacks, and more. Heartfelt stories emerged, with some sharing the hardships of living with multiple generations under one roof.

Grandparents detailed caring for newborns and many other grandchildren while their adult children sought employment. These poignant narratives both touched our hearts and fueled our commitment to sustaining this mission.

We also explored the innovative Imua Discovery Garden in Wailuku, a 6-acre property once belonging to King Kahekili II, in which we encountered the rich history of its non-profit organization, aptly named "Imua," meaning "to move forward" in Hawaiian. Established in 1947, IMUA Family Services (discoverimua.com) has provided quality care and community for children of all abilities, evolving from its original focus of aiding disabled children to also supporting those who have experienced trauma. The organization recently initiated an outdoor preschool for children displaced by the fires, highlighting its commitment to growth and inclusivity. The Imua Discovery Garden, adorned with 120-year-old monkey-pod trees, an arboretum garden, over 100 botanical species, animals, and a sculpture garden, offers a unique and enriching experience. The property is expanding to include a butterfly house and a new school, emphasizing a holistic approach to early childhood development. Donations are encouraged to ensure that every child can play their way to their full potential, fostering a creative culture where inquisitive minds can learn through play and exploration in dynamic outdoor environments designed just for them.

During the latter part of our journey, we lodged in Wailea, an impressive resort community in South Maui known for its picturesque crescent-shaped beaches. The goal for our stay was to actively immerse ourselves in the local hospitality industry.

Initially, we roomed at the stunning Fairmont Kea Lani (fairmont-kea-lani.com), Hawaii’s only all-suite and villa oceanfront resort perched on Maui's south shore in Wailea. With 22 acres of tropical beauty, the recently transformed property provides an authentic immersion into Hawaiian culture and impeccable personal service, embodying the essence of aloha.

The Fairmont Kea Lani recently completed a multi-year transformation, unveiling a redesigned lobby, bar/restaurant, and cultural center. The property now features 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two-story villas, all artfully redesigned to reflect the island's heritage and enhance Hawaii's natural beauty. Collaborating with Native Hawaiian elders with lineal ties to the resort's location, the concept, design, and names were carefully crafted.

Arriving at the hotel, we were greeted with fresh leis and the transformation unfolded with the expansive open-air lobby adorned with vaulted ceilings, ceiling-tofloor waterfalls, art sculptures, lush gardens, and captivating ocean vistas.

Beyond the lobby, Hale Kukuna, the new open-air cultural center, serves as a hub for community connection. Offering classes, workshops, and a curated collection

of relics and artwork, this space enables guests and locals to explore and appreciate Hawaiian culture, symbolizing the resort’s commitment to sharing the island's history and fostering a deeper respect for Hawaiian traditions.

Adjacent is Pilina, the new bar and lounge designed to seamlessly integrate with the island’s soothing beauty. Featuring monkey-pod wood architecture illustrating the rhythmic flow of waves, it's the perfect spot to savor culinary focused cocktails and raw bites sourced 90 percent from local ingredients while witnessing breathtaking sunsets and catching glimpses of passing whales.

Beyond its cultural enhancements and generously spacious suites, Fairmont Kea Lani offers a spa and wellness program, additional dining options, and three pools, including an adults-only tranquility pool.

During my family’s stay at the exceptional property, our mornings were serenaded by chirping birds as we savored Nespresso on our balcony, framed by cascading bougainvillea. After delightful alfresco breakfasts of local specialties at The Kea Lani Restaurant, our afternoons unfolded poolside with refreshing dips, waterslide riding, pool basketball games, and swim-up bar enjoyment. Each evening had a different activity such as an outdoor family movie or dinner at the delicious Kō restaurant with its sustainable, authentic, and local fare.

The Fairmont Kea Lani and its amenities are deeply rooted in culture, driven by community, and presented with aloha. In the wake of the recent fires, this connection feels especially fitting.

Our finale was a stay at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort. Nestled along Maui's premier southwestern coastline on Mōkapu Beach, the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort (andazmaui.com) epitomizes refined luxury. This breathtaking 15-acre beachfront property is a modern masterpiece featuring a tiered terrace that unfolds with spectacular beauty and experiences on each level. The crown jewel of the resort is its three cascading outdoor infinity pools, offering unobstructed ocean views and a tranquil setting where it's hard to distinguish between the undulating pool water and the vast sea just beyond. The property is a testament to flawless planning, with well-thought-out architecture capturing reflections of water, palm trees, and ocean on floor-to-ceiling windows. Guests can indulge in the paradise that is the Andaz, where every detail, from the lush landscaping with flowering plumeria trees and Hawaiian plants to the tiered infinity pools, creates a harmonious and unforgettable vacation.

This flagship property of the Andaz brand in a resort destination, features 320 guestrooms, including 35 suites and 30 contemporary villas with tropical views and direct beach access. Recently

celebrating its 10th anniversary, the property underwent a tasteful redesign and key enhancements to common areas, suites, and guest rooms.

We experienced The Villas at Andaz Maui, an exquisite retreat ideal for multigenerational families or large groups. The 19 'Ilikai Villas, a collection of 1900-squarefoot, 3-bedroom residences, offer a gourmet Bosch kitchen, washer/dryer, private lanai with a Viking grill, and ocean or garden views. Ground-level villas feature a private plunge pool and expansive lawn, while the penthouse offers 3,750 square feet of living space and a glass-bottom cantilevered pool. Guests in any of the 30 villas enjoy direct access to the resort's VIP concierge for a personalized experience.

Beyond its stunning accommodations and cascading pools, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort offers an adults-only pool near the 'Āwili Spa and Salon (don't miss the apothecary excursion or the connect massage with Hawaiian aroma therapy). The resort also features an art gallery, fitness center, over 52,000 square feet of outdoor event space, award-winning regional farm-totable dining at Ka’ana Kitchen, savory Japanese fusion cuisine at Morimoto Maui, poolside lunches at Bumbye Beach Bar, and craft cocktails at Lehua Lounge.

Guests can customize their stay with the Guest Experience Team, crafting personalized itineraries featuring fitness or art classes and cultural activities like coconut leaf weaving (highly recommended, especially with children), outrigger canoeing, or ukulele and hula lessons.

As the sun set into the reflective Pacific on our last evening, we enjoyed the Feast at Mokapu Luau. Welcomed by vibrant Hawaiian performers who set

the stage for a spiritual journey, blending culture, history, music, dance, and artistry. Our exploration of Maui's rich heritage was complemented by a delightful three-course dinner and handcrafted signature cocktails.

As we concluded our exploration of conscious travel in Maui, it was evident that the essence of aloha extends beyond a mere greeting – it is a call to mindfulness and respect, embodying the true spirit of aloha. From savoring poke to sinking our toes in black sand beaches, each moment became an opportunity for meaningful connection and appreciation, guided by the principles of compassion, empathy, and acts of kindness encapsulated in the aloha spirit. As we traversed the road to Hana and all around the island, we carefully packed not only our essentials but also compassion and kindness in our travel bags, recognizing that aloha symbolizes more than just hello, goodbye, and I love you. It encompasses hospitality, charity, integrity, patience, and unconditional love for our neighbors and fellow humans. In conscious travel, the aloha spirit becomes a guide, reminding us to approach each experience with a heart full of warmth and understanding.

In a poignant and beautiful irony, I can't help but recognize that while visitors have long visited Maui seeking healing for their mind, body, and soul, the island now seeks healing through conscious travelers. I encourage you to embark on your journey with a spirit of compassion, aiming to leave not only footprints but also a legacy of respect and care for the communities that contribute to making this island a cherished place.

USOA QUEENS

HOW MRS. AND MISS RED ROCK ARE INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY
GIVING BACK | ARTS + CULTURE 52
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY TAYLOR SHEA WEST

Pageants have evolved far beyond mere showcases of pretty faces and sparkly dresses; they now stand as the crossroads where community engagement is not just a commitment but a heartfelt journey. Two living examples of this transformation are the current Mrs. and Miss Red Rock.

Joining the United States of America Pageants (USOA) revolves around encouraging women, to help them strive and achieve their hopes, dreams, goals, and aspirations, all while making them feel confident and beautiful inside and out. USOA focuses on women's empowerment, promoting positive self-image, and advocating a platform of community service, which allows each contestant to rise by lifting others. The organization’s motto is to “empower women, inspire others, and uplift everyone.”

That’s why I, the new USOA Miss Red Rock, Taylor West, and my sister in pageantry, the new USOA Mrs. Red Rock, Katrina Chapman, made the decision to join and give back to our community in as many ways as we could. For us, joining the pageant is not just about wearing a crown; it's about the call to empower, inspire, and uplift.

USOA Mrs. Red Rock and I have distinct yet complementary platforms. Chapman is actively engaged in enriching the lives of children in pediatric hospitals, while I am fostering open conversations about mental health situations for children, teens, and adults. Our partnerships with local nonprofit organizations amplify the impact we hope to leave on our community.

USOA Mrs. Red Rock's mission revolves around bringing joy and support to the lives of children in pediatric hospitals. Through a thoughtful approach encompassing play, assistance for families, and support for Child Life Departments, she is transforming the hospital experience for young patients.

“We hope to create large strides within our community, investing in its vitality...for a lifetime.”

“Doing nonprofit work in my community has always been important to me, and pageantry has allowed me to open so many more doors to continue that work,” said Chapman. “I have also had the experience of getting to volunteer at St. Rose Hospital after my son's sleep apnea surgery was performed there. There's something very special about getting to help the facility that made scary days a little less daunting for my family.”

Chapman’s commitment to community investment is exemplified by her collaborations with prominent charities across the valley. Notable partnerships with organizations like Kindness Conquers, which helps children with cancer and their families to cope with the weight that the illness carries, and Once Upon a Room, to provide personalized hospital room makeovers to promote happiness and healing in the lives of critically ill and extended stay pediatric patients.

With Chapman’s impact and constantly finding new ways to extend her generosity, she takes every avenue to ensure that the well-being of pediatric patients and their families is prioritized.

As Miss Red Rock, I am dedicated to fostering meaningful conversations surrounding mental health, with an emphasis on the often-overlooked mental health challenges after brain injuries, as well as making the topic of mental health digestible for children, teens, and adults.

I currently partner with the efforts of IDONTMIND, a charity that inspires open conversations about mental health and provides free resources, education, and encouragement for anyone who needs it. I also work with Same You, a brain injury recovery non-profit organization that works to develop better mental health recovery treatment for survivors, raises awareness, and advocates for change. Both of these national communities have not only helped millions but also helped me.

I have always been open about mental health topics, especially with our younger generations - they’re our future! However, after a personal experience with brain injury, and noticing the mass effects it has mentally that no one can physically see, I soon learned this wasn’t spoken about and care was limited - that didn’t, and still doesn't, sit well with me.

I aim to cultivate awareness surrounding the hidden pains beyond physical observation and provide education on what we don’t always see going on on the inside.

Both of us genuinely hope that our collective efforts and passion in our community show just how much we believe in, and want to nourish it now, and for years to come. By addressing both the immediate needs of pediatric patients and the long-term mental health challenges faced by children, teens, and adults, we hope to create large strides within our community, investing in its vitality not just for a few fleeting years, but for a lifetime.

Empowering Music Educators

EDUCATION CORNER | EDUCATION
| PHOTOGRAPHY BY DESIREE NICOLE AND TOMASZ ROSSA HOW THE REHART GESNER BENEFIT RECITAL ENHANCES VOCAL HEALTH AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH FOR CCSD MUSIC TEACHERS
Dr. Latour 62
““Their vision to establish the Rehart Gesner Fund fills a crucial need.” - Kimberly

Kanitz

On the evening of Sunday, April 14, the harmony of philanthropy and music will come together at the 2nd Annual Rehart Gesner Benefit Recital, spearheaded by locals Dr. Michelle Latour and Katy Morris. Aiming to be more than just a musical soirée, the event is a heartfelt endeavor to provide crucial assistance to music educators in the Clark County School District (CCSD). The duo's passion is fueled by a profound connection to their grandmothers, who played pivotal roles in nurturing their love for music.

Following the resounding success of their inaugural recital, which raised over $35,000, Latour and Morris have already granted scholarships to six deserving CCSD teachers and are poised to award more this February. The driving force behind their mission? To empower music teachers through scholarships for private voice lessons and vocal health screenings, fostering a community where educators can harmonize their passion for teaching with self-care.

“When we came up with the idea to raise money to help music teachers nurture their voices and to allow them to focus on themselves, we had no idea where it would go,” said Katy. “It became apparent when the first scholarship applications started rolling in.”

The event was an overwhelming success.

“I have been teaching three scholarship recipients,” said Michelle. “It is glaringly obvious that there is an incredible need for what we are doing.”

Additionally, they were able to partner with renowned Los Angeles-based laryngologist Dr. Reena Gupta, of The Center for Vocal Health, to give all scholarship recipients a full voice exam. The Rehart Gesner Fund paid for five music teachers to meet with Dr. Gupta for a stroboscopy to see if there were any medical issues affecting their voices.

“None of these teachers had ever had a voice exam, although they all experienced extreme vocal fatigue or even voice loss due to the high demands of their jobs. Dr. Gupta has a licensed Speech Language Pathologist on her team, Tressa Cox, so that if a scholarship recipient also needed voice therapy, they could move seamlessly from Dr. Gupta’s appointment into a session with Tressa,” said Michelle. “The level of care they received through these appointments was immeasurable. All five teachers walked away with a clear view of their vocal health and an action plan for how to use their voices in a healthy way.”

This year's benefit will include a recital featuring several of Dr. Latour’s semi-pro and professional adult students. Along with entertainment, there is a silent auction, including offerings from small, locally owned businesses and large corporations, such as a year of flower delivery from Flowers by Michelle, restaurant gift certificates, tickets to a Vegas Golden Knights game, and a two-day driving school experience at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch.

CONTINUED > 63 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/REDROCK APRIL 2024

The benefit holds more significance than just one event, as it is funding education and assistance for teachers across the valley.

“As we know, teachers are known for giving everything to the classroom, so allowing them to do something for themselves seemed like a brilliant idea. The knowledge gained during voice lessons can make an impact on these teachers’ lives forever as they implement the skills learned,” said Katy.

As a student herself, Katy can only attest to how important this education is.

“I was holding onto many bad habits from years of improper use of my voice. Plus, I hadn’t used my voice for singing in almost a decade. Dr. Latour has an amazing ear for what is going on with your voice and the eye to see how your body is impacting your sound,” said Katy. “Not only has she taught me technique, but also she has encouraged me to be confident and comfortable in the sound of my voice. My own experience with Dr. Latour made it clear to me that a cause focused on music teacher’s vocal health could

make a big impact on the lives of the teachers, as well as their students.”

Watching students evolve through their journeys has been an incredible honor and inspiration for Michelle.

“I love seeing the light bulb go off in their eyes when they stumble upon a new sound, or they free up a part of their voice that had previously been stuck. I am incredibly lucky to be able to sit at the piano all day and help singers discover what is possible,” said Michelle. “Private voice lessons give singers confidence in their abilities, and they often find renewed joy in singing and are so satisfied to be doing something for themselves.”

With donations from the community, they can expand upon the number of scholarships they can award to teachers for private voice lessons, in addition to continuing to offer voice exams and if needed, voice therapy with a licensed SLP. Donating to the Rehart Gesner Fund changes lives as it gives music teachers a chance to work on their craft while also learning how to care for their voices.
