ENCHANTING ESCAPADE: A JOURNEY INTO THE HEART OF BRAZIL’S MYSTICAL SANCTUARY
“This journey was more than a mere escape from the everyday... it was impossible not to feel grateful for being alive.”
From the glittering lights of Las Vegas to the lush expanses of my homeland, Brazil, our journey to Chapada dos Veadeiros unfolded like a page from a fairy tale.
Nestled in the heart of Brazil, Chapada dos Veadeiros is an enchanting realm where the wonders of nature converge in a majestic display of beauty. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a tapestry of lush cerrado biome, cascading waterfalls, and ancient crystal formations, each element weaving an atmosphere of mystical allure.
By day, the sun kisses the rugged landscape, illuminating a spectrum of vibrant flora and exotic wildlife, while at night, the clear skies reveal a celestial spectacle, with stars sparkling like diamonds over the serene plateau. The region’s natural springs and rivers, with their crystal-clear waters, invite a sense of rejuvenation and connection to the earth’s primal energy.
Luxury eco-resorts and charming pousadas offer a haven of comfort, blending seamlessly into the surroundings, ensuring an upscale experience that harmonizes with the spirit of this magical sanctuary.
Chapada dos Veadeiros stands not just as a destination, but as a journey into the heart of nature’s splendor, an escape into a world where every moment is infused with wonder and luxury.
Our adventure embarked with an air of excitement, taking us from Las Vegas to São Paulo, and then to Brasilia, the capital
of Brazil. The final leg was a scenic drive to Alto Paraiso, a serene town cradling the heart of Chapada dos Veadeiros. Our haven, Pousada Casa da Lua, was a realm of tranquility, where araras painted the sky with vibrant colors, and perequetes serenaded the dawn.
Every morning began with a symphony of Brazilian flavors, a breakfast experience that was a celebration for the senses. The table was a vibrant mosaic of fresh tropical fruits, like juicy mangoes, papayas, and guava, their colors as vivid as the Brazilian sunrise. Traditional pão de queijo, warm and cheesy, provided a comforting texture contrasted by the crispness of freshly baked pastels. The aroma of rich, locally sourced coffee filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of passion fruit juice. Each bite was an exploration of Brazil's culinary heritage, from the creamy texture of tapioca pancakes to the savory depth of linguiça sausages. This variety of tastes, textures, and aromas was not just a meal; it was a jubilant feast, awakening us to the day's adventures with the full, exuberant spirit of Brazil.
On our first full day there we set off on a 22-mile journey to Mandala Viewpoint, where we were greeted by a family of monkeys (Mico Estrela). A hike, weaving through the remnants of a crystal mine, brought us to Mirante da Janela, a lookout that allowed us to view a spellbinding

canvas – the mighty Saltos do Rio Preto cascading with a roar yet exuding a peaceful aura. The Abismo waterfalls, a seasonal spectacle, unveiled a ballet of cascading waters, inviting us for a swim in their refreshing embrace.
The next day we ventured another 22 miles to Vale da Lua, the Moon Valley. The Rio São Miguel sculpted its path through ancient rocks, creating a dreamscape of pools and showers. We bathed in these ethereal waters, feeling the millennia of history coursing through the landscape. In the afternoon, the Cordovil Waterfalls, nestled within Volta da Serra farm, offered a sanctuary of lush greenery and natural pools, a hidden gem recently opened to the world.
Our fourth day was a pilgrimage to the past, leading us to Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. The Saltos do Rio Preto and Garimpão Waterfall, iconic since the 1980s, stood as sentinels of time. Our trek along paths, once walked by miners, was a journey through the history of Brazil, where every step resonated with stories untold.
The fifth morning beckoned us to Águas do Paraíso State Park, the newest jewel in the Chapada’s crown. Here, the Couros Waterfalls unraveled like a masterpiece, a symphony of cascades, rapids, and serene pools. The waterfalls, with evocative names like "Muralha" and "Parafuso," were a spectacle of nature's grandeur, their
beauty a testament to the timeless dance of water and rock.
Our final day was a serene sojourn to the Loquinhas Waterfalls. This ecological sanctuary, with its chain of emerald pools and cascades, was a gentle reminder of the delicate beauty of our planet. The wooden trail, hugging the landscape, offered an intimate glimpse into the heart of Chapada dos Veadeiros.
Every moment in Chapada dos Veadeiros was a revelation, a step deeper into the heart of nature’s marvels. From the thunderous applause of waterfalls to the gentle rustle of leaves, each experience was a thread in the fabric of an unforgettable adventure. This journey was more than a mere escape from the every day; it was a dialogue with the soul of the earth, a dance with the spirits of water, rock, and sky. It was impossible not to feel grateful for being alive.
Chapada dos Veadeiros, is forever etched in my soul. Being there was a reminder of the endless wonders that my homeland holds, waiting to be discovered, cherished, and preserved. This journey was a testament to the magic that unfolds when we immerse ourselves in the embrace of the natural world. Chapada dos Veadeiros, with its mystical landscapes and whispering waters, will always be a symbol of nature’s boundless beauty and the transformative power of travel.
Experience Elevating the Home Parking
RESIDENTIAL PARKING SOLUTIONS’ GARAGE SPACE MAXIMIZATION
Scot Salisbury, founder of Residential Parking Solutions, has pioneered an ingenious solution to address the growing need for additional garage space. His company offers an affordable and space-maximizing solution for residents facing the challenge of limited parking and garage space options.
“Most of our customers aren’t mechanics; they’re individuals with more cars than garage space. We guide them through the straightforward process of raising, adjusting, and lowering their lifts...and they say, ‘This is easy! I can do it!’”
The Need for More Parking
As more people flock to Las Vegas, they encounter a common problem – minimal garage space. The scarcity of available land and strict Homeowners Association (HOA) regulations make expanding garages a costly and challenging endeavor. Salisbury notes that even high-end homes have an evident need for additional parking spaces.
"One of the things we've noticed, even in the million-dollar-plus homes, is that they only have a two or three car garage,” said Scot. “The need for more parking spaces is evident, especially in single family homes."
Cost-Effective and Versatile Solution
Residential Parking Solutions’ groundbreaking solution lies in a seemingly simple idea –raising the garage door. Traditional garage door openers function by pulling the door up towards themselves, resulting in wasted space. However, Residential Parking Solutions takes a different approach, raising the rails to the ceiling and installing a wall-mount garage door opener.
Unlike costly construction projects, Residential Parking Solutions offers a cost-effective solution, with prices typically ranging between $10,000 and $13,000 – a fraction of the cost of building additional garage space.
Consultative Approach
Residential Parking Solutions distinguishes itself by adopting a consultative rather than a sales-oriented approach. New clients benefit from a free site evaluation for experts to consider factors like garage size and ceiling height to allow customers to make an informed decision.
Scot emphasized, "We measure everything –cars, ingress, egress, garage door opener, and, most importantly, the garage height."
There are two standard ceiling heights for Las Vegas homes: 113 inches and 125 inches. Scot explained, “With the standard 113-inch ceiling height, adding two lifts transforms a two-car garage into a four-car garage. For those with a 125" ceiling, accommodating two cars and two SUVs becomes a reality.”
The range of options includes platform lifts, floor posts, and single post lifts, tailored to meet customers’ unique needs. Beyond extra parking, lifts safeguard vehicles from harsh elements, offering protection against heat, sandstorms, and unpredictable winters.
User-Friendly Installation and Operation
While the concept of lifting cars may sound daunting, Salisbury highlights the simplicity of the operation.
"Most of our customers aren't mechanics; they're individuals with more cars than garage space,” said Scot. “We guide them through the straightforward process of raising, adjusting, and lowering their lifts. It typically takes us less than 15 minutes to help them master how to do it, and they say, ‘This is easy! I can do it!'"
Customer Satisfaction is Key
Residential Parking Solutions’ commitment to excellence has garnered praise from its customers, many of whom were referred by other satisfied clients. Their professionalism, politeness, and extensive knowledge have solidified their reputation. It's not uncommon for Scot to pick up the phone and hear, "My buddy has one of your lifts and says you guys really know what you're doing. I want to get a lift myself."
As Residential Parking Solutions gears up for franchising across the U.S. in 2024, it promises to revolutionize the way people perceive and utilize their garage spaces, offering an affordable and innovative alternative to the ever-present challenge of limited garage space.

Your Home Liquor Cabinet
A GUIDE TO STOCKING, SIPPING, AND SERVING
ARTICLE BY EVE BUSHMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ED BUSHMANWhen you consider what to stock your home liquor cabinet with, besides your own personal favorites, you must consider the basics: both clear and brown spirits, and the mixers (kept in the refrigerator after opening as they are perishable) that go with them. If you want to make cocktails, invest in a good cocktail book like the 12 Bottle Bar book by David Solmonson and Lesley Jacobs Solmonson, which will give you some easy recipes and only 12 main bottles of spirits.
Clear: Vodka, gin, white rum, and silver tequila.
Colored: Bourbon, rye, aged tequila, blended whisky, single malt scotch whisky, and rum.
Standard mixers for these spirits include tonic, soda, fruit juices, and ginger beer. Besides mixers, to build a cocktail you will need aromatic bitters, sweet and dry vermouth, mint, cherries, orange, lemon and lime for garnish, and simple syrup.
For you and special guests, you should also consider stocking a Cognac. During one Cognac class, I learned that unless your home is as cold as a French Chateau a couple of hundred years ago: chill your Cognac. After that lesson, I now keep my Cognac in the freezer and enjoy it in a chilled coupe. The aromas and flavors don’t close, and the liquid itself takes on richness, in my opinion, when chilled over serving at room temperature.
Glassware: Presentation is key in serving a fine spirit or cocktail. You will want to invest in both a rocks glass for single spirits and cocktails, a coupe for Martini style drinks and if you are a serious scotch connoisseur consider investing in the Glencairn or NEAT nosing glass that is used for judging all spirits in serious competitions including the Proof Awards in Las Vegas.
Ice: If you want to really elevate your cocktails and single spirits you can simply use a large square ice mold. The idea is the larger the cube, the longer it takes to melt and dilute the drink. To make it clear: my favorite tray is made by True Cubes, which will give you clear ice on the top of the tray while the sediments that make cubes cloudy settle on the bottom of the tray. I even have a mini cube tray for Tiki drinks if you like those types of cocktails.
CONTINUED >
Finally, for cocktail building, you will need a cocktail shaker (or a beaker if you prefer a stirred drink), a strainer, a long bar spoon, and a jigger for measuring.
Finally, let me share just a few of my favorite cocktail recipes you can try with your new well-stocked liquor cabinet:
Manhattan: 2 ounces bourbon or rye, 1-ounce sweet vermouth, 2 dashes bitters. Can build over ice in a shaker or stirred in a glass beaker. Strain into a rocks glass over ice, garnish with a cherry, lemon and/or orange peel.
Old Fashioned: 2 ounces bourbon, 1-teaspoon simple or muddled brown sugar, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, shake or stir, garnish with a cherry, lemon and/or orange peel.
Moscow Mule: Over crushed ice pour 2-ounces vodka, juice from half of a lime, top with ginger beer. Swap vodka for any spirit of choice, rye and bourbon work well. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Gin Martini: In a shaker with ice add 2 ounces gin, a half cap of dry vermouth, 2 dashes orange bitters, and then strain into an iced coupe or Martini glass.

“Every product that we sell has benefits for both energysaving and UV protection.”
When the calendar flips over to March, people who live in Southern Nevada know that change is coming. We are talking about extreme heat that is just around the corner. The kind of weather that can be dangerous to your body can also take a toll on your home. So, when it comes to protecting your house from the sun’s damaging rays, experts say thinking ahead and taking some proactive steps are key.
According to Ryan Field, Vice President of Marketing for Sierra Air Conditioning & Plumbing, taking care of your HVAC system should start before the weather gets hot.
"Here in Las Vegas, a good and reliable air conditioning system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity,” said Field. “It can be hard
for us to drive that point home sometimes when it’s not yet 110 degrees outside and the weather is beautiful, people don’t feel much urgency. But it’s so important to maintain your air conditioner before extreme heat arrives, which is something we see every year."
Field says on average, air conditioners last about 10 years in the Las Vegas Valley because of our extreme weather. But with regular inspections and repairs, the cost to keep and maintain one of the most expensive pieces of machinery in your home could come way down.
When it comes to protecting your home against the heat, window treatments are also critical in blocking out the sunlight
“This system is also compatible with a smart home system. They are all Bluetooth accessible and programmable to fully automate.”
and shielding your furniture, flooring, and walls from harmful UV rays. One top name in the industry who has been helping his customers here in Las Vegas for nearly three decades is Jack Ball, the owner and president of Cover It Window Fashions.
“Every product that we sell has benefits for both energy-saving and UV protection," said Ball.
According to the US Department of Energy, about 76 percent of the sunlight that shines through an average window becomes heat. And when we live in a place like Southern Nevada, it becomes much more important to consider shades and blinds that can significantly block out the sun.
“We are an exclusive retailer of Hunter Douglas," said Ball. "Their top-of-the-line quality products are up to 88 percent UV resistant while you can still see out."
While intense sunshine and heat during the summertime can be detrimental to your AC system, it can also do a lot of damage to the things you treasure in your home. Ball said he has seen this first-hand working with his customers in the valley.
“I have seen wood-type flooring where people have area rugs down and the sun faded the flooring around it so you can really see the difference," said Ball. "And it doesn't take as long as you think to see this kind of sun damage. I have seen it happen in 2 years."
Ball says that when he started his business in 1995, technology didn't play that big a role in the kind of window treatment product he offers and in what his customers are looking for. But today, times have changed, and he is excited to sell these modern products that will help people
both protect their homes and save on their energy bills.
"With Powerview Automation, you can schedule window treatments to open and close when you want them to," said Ball. "This system is also compatible with a smart home system. They are all Bluetooth accessible and programmable to fully automate. For example, my wife can leave in the morning and doesn't have to worry about closing and opening our shades at certain times of the day. We just love it."
Whether it be your air conditioning or your window treatments, local businesses say the Las Vegas market has offered them opportunities to grow and serve even more people as they move to the valley, especially in the last 10 to 15 years.
To help customers keep up with the maintenance of Home Comfort Systems year-round, Sierra LLC Air Conditioning & Plumbing recently launched a new membership plan. The Savings and Maintenance Membership (S.A.M. Membership) is designed to ensure your equipment remains at optimal performance and your warranty stays intact. Members receive more than $1,373 in services each year for a monthly fee of $16. This will provide each member with four complimentary visits from their HVAC technicians and plumbers. For starters, this includes a cooling tune-up in the spring, to prepare for summer as well as a heating tune-up in the fall to prepare for winter. Also included is a visit from the plumbing team for a 65-point preventative maintenance inspection. S.A.M. Members also receive an emergency visit, if needed.
As for Jack Ball and his team at Cover It Window Fashions, he is proud to open his 5,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse where clients can see and test his quality products firsthand. Ball said whether his customer spends $500 or $5,000 on a window treatment, they will get the same quality and service from his business.
“The reason I love what I do is because my product is often the first thing people wake up to and see," said Ball. "We are part of people’s daily lives, and we take it very seriously and it's the reason why we love what we do every day."
“Here in Las Vegas, a good and reliable air conditioning system is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.”
ZONE BLUE
What’s the secret to a happy, healthy, and long life? Believe it or not, it’s actually quite simple: There are no secret ingredients, no sizable expenditures, and absolutely zero manufactured elements of any kind. Dive in with us as we share insights from our interview with the internationally renowned Blue Zones Founder, National Geographic Explorer, and award-winning journalist who is revolutionizing the way Americans make choices that can lead to living your best life.
“GET YOUR HANDS ON A PLANT-BASED COOKBOOK, PICK A DOZEN RECIPES, AND COOK THOSE WITH YOUR FAMILY ON SUNDAYS.”
For over twenty years, Dan Buettner has been fully committed to studying the health and longevity of Americans as well as influencing the proper and attainable health-centric environments our communities should embody. What started with identifying five “blue zones” around the world where people are both living longer as well as enjoying a higher quality of life in their elder years has now also evolved into proactively creating eco-systems where our communities engage in setting the standard for clean health.
If you haven’t subscribed to watching “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” streaming on Netflix, do yourself a favor and soak up the well-documented views into how Ikaria, Greece, Loma Linda, California, Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan, and Nicoya, Costa Rica exemplify the basis behind the Blue Zones truth and have since inspired Dan and his team to further extrapolate how we can manufacture healthy blue zone lifestyles in virtually any city and within our homes by way of intentional adaptation.
Most of us are well aware of the “American way of life” we reside in, that being one of convenience in all shapes and forms. We excel in offering the most fast food options in any country. We rank at the top of the most cars per household. We embrace a sedentary at-home lifestyle. And, for many of us, it stems from our childhood to no-fault of our own; comfort foods and Friday night pizza deliveries, complacent recliners and cushy car commutes. In short, however, now more than ever we categorically live in a country where processed foods and ultra-convenience, unfortunately, translate to life-threatening health diseases and a lack of organic joy.
What is the best news of all? All of these characteristics are wildly easy to overcome with effortless, yet conscious pivots to making better decisions with our time, our food, and our focus. Ask yourself: Are you driving or walking? Are you connecting socially? Set your sights on avoiding the majority of processed foods and start eating a largely whole-food and plant-based diet that will (statistically) give you another 10-12 years on your life.
In place of your toaster, keep a fruit bowl on the counter. Create a low-level junk food drawer. Stop buying processed meat, potato chips, sweetened snacks like cookies and candies, and worst of all, sugar-sweet beverages, and start buying more beans, nuts, grains, and tea.
“Am I going to tell you to never have these? No, people deserve to treat themselves. But you’ll do yourself an enormous favor if you just don’t bring those into your home. If you want to go out for those treats, go ahead,” Dan says.
“Simply just don’t bring them home, and you’ll cut out 70-80% of consumption right there.”
Buettner’s first cookbook, The Blue Zones Kitchen, is a fantastic resource featuring ingredients and cooking methods that can increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. The recipes also include lifestyle tips such as proper portion sizes and the best times to eat dinner. Plus, check out his additional seven books that dig deep into the exact foods you should eat to how your circle of friends and family can influence your quality of life.
Who do you hang out with? Happiness is contagious. “The Blue Zone approach is to go through your contact base and think of some friends whose recreation is pickleball, biking, or gardening. Who will care about you on a bad day and have a meaningful conversation? Identify one or two friends who are vegan or vegetarian and show you how and where to eat whole foods. Actively invite them out for lunch, and bring them into your social circle: this will have a bigger, long-term impact on your behavior than any new diet or exercise, and it costs you zero. Plus, there is a ton of data that shows it works, and it’s long-term.”
“We are marketed the idea that if we change our behavior by exercising more, taking the right supplements, trying this longevity or that anti-aging hack, that we will lose weight and get healthy, yet it never works for the longterm,” says Dan. The Blue Zones approach is not trying to change your behaviors, it is asking you to change your surroundings…your eco-system.
Every time you go out to eat, you will consume an extra 300 calories that are laden with more sodium, sugar, and oil than eating at home. “Get your hands on a plant-based cookbook, pick a dozen recipes, and cook those with your family on Sundays. If you make the effort to cook it with your family, you will gain the skills and learn to make some good and whole food plant-based recipes.”
And, we would be remiss not to attend to the travelers at heart who would love to indulge in a luxurious resort paired with the facets of an actual Blue Zones destination. Dan highly recommends seeking out Silvestre in Nosara, Costa Rica where the experience offers wellness programming, fully-equipped kitchens, and outdoor activities that will fuel your inspiration for a healthier life.
Tap into Dan’s wisdom that is creating a new category of places that are not merely the legacy of a healthy culture, but more consciously created by enlightened individuals that are intent on supercharging healthier communities!

This is one of my constant “go to” DIY projects. It’s fast, it’s easy and it looks oh so professional. I love displaying photos, but I don’t necessarily love a lot of photo frames. These canvases create a crisp, clean look... All in about 30 minutes! Let’s get started.
DIY Photo To Canvas In A Snap
ARTICLE BY ANGI HOCKETT | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
STEP 1:
First things first, grab your supplies.
• Photo on photo paper
• 1 ½ inch thick wrapped canvas
• Mod Podge in Matte finish
• Black spray paint in Satin finish
• Clear spray paint in Satin finish
• 4 inch or 6 inch foam paint roller
• Small paint tray
Place your photo on the clean, dry canvas to make sure it fits correctly. Trim if necessary.
STEP 2:
Spray paint the canvas sides and a little of the top with the black spray paint. It is VERY important to let this dry completely.
STEP 3:
Using your foam roller, roll Mod Podge over the entire top of the canvas. Center your photo on top of the wet Mod Podge. Smooth the photo with your hands starting in the middle and pushing out toward the edges
STEP 4:
Roll a thin even layer of Mod Podge over your photo. This is a little scary “painting” over your photo, but I promise it will dry clear. Once it is covered with a thin layer start at one side and roll straight rows from side to side, in the same direction, as to avoid roller lines once it dries. If you see small bubbles in the wet Mod Podge, it is too thick. Thin it out by taking an almost dry roller over the photo to lift some of the Mod Podge. Repeat until the bubbles are gone. Let this dry completely.
STEP 5:
Spray the top and sides of the entire canvas and photo with satin spray paint. Dry…Hang….High Five. Congratulations on your new Photo Canvas!
This same technique can be used on 4x4 tiles of your choice to create custom coasters. You will add a bit of Peel and Stick Cork or felt to the back of the tile so the coaster doesn’t scratch. Cheers!

jaguar las vegas looKs to Future its iconic vehicle makes transition to the ev age
The exclusive Jaguar retailer in the state of Nevada, Jaguar Las Vegas, is offering the public a chance to come test drive and experience the iconic vehicle before its core engine design transitions into the EV age. The dealership is located at 6425 Roy Horn Way.
Jaguar recently announced it would discontinue the F-Type following the 2024 model year. The Jaguar F-Type, a high performance 2-seater sports car, is the modern take on the iconic E-type from the 1960’s. This transition means the company will eliminate all internal combustion engine (gas powered) vehicles in its current line-up and the Jaguar Brand will become all-electric by the Spring of 2025.
According to Ray DiNardi, the Centre Manager of Jaguar Las Vegas, this change is bittersweet. “Jaguar has a rich history known for a combination of performance, luxury and heritage. So as we look to a very different future for the brand, car enthusiasts will understand that we are at a very unique point in the global automotive history,” said DiNardi. “If anyone is looking to own a piece of Jaguar history, this is the time to do it and we are here to help”.
