LIFESTYLE LETTER

Style Sense

September 2025 PUBLISHER

Brad Schnepf | brad.schnepf@citylifestyle.com

Queen Creek is growing and so is its sense of style. Here it may seem that cowboy hats and boots reign supreme, but we have a surprise for you. There is more to this town than meets the eye, although cowboy will never just be a trend where we live. However, that doesn't mean we can't expand our tastes. Brianna Wells, for example, invites you to bring some vacation vibes to your wardrobe using a blend of bold colors and vintage pieces. Fashion is always evolving, but so is how we shop. Dusk Boutique brings the shop to you in their mobile boutique, so that style isn't just accessible but on wheels too. If that wasn't enough we also talk hair, since let's face it, how we frame our face is a big style statement. We also sit down with The Yard Stylist, who knows how to upgrade your outdoor space for a luxe feel. Style is something we also find in our home and just as we frame our face we also need accents on our windows and Bloomin Blinds is your go to for beautiful and practical window coverings. We will also ask you to consider a vacation rental that is packed to the brim with style, elevating your experience. Surrounding yourself with beauty or wearing something flattering has the intended effect of lifting our mood. So style is not merely what catches the eye, but a mindset too.

Your next vacation rental will have you stay in style.

Yes, there is a spiral slide in the living room. However, Foxwood Cottage in Payson, has many more surprises in store for its guests. Owner, Michelle Wollett bought the geodesic property from the original owners in 2024 and set to work creating a cozy, colorful palette that draws inspiration from an English cottage. However, the colors also seem to come out of a Van Gogh or a Claude Monet painting, many of which the reprints also adorn the walls. The patterned wall paper, a colorful throw, the paneled walls with a beaded detail, decorative fixtures and rows of mix and match pillows all invite your eye to dance from one end of the room to the other. Michelle has a literary fixation too, one she is not shy about at all. She runs another business called Once Upon A Book Club which sends you a book along with items and activities to pair with the plot or characters of the book included. It won’t surprise you then that Michelle extends this approach to Foxwood Cottage. She originally bought it because the unique shape of the 1980’s property reminded her of a ‘hobbit house’ from Lord of the Rings. She then included in one of the rooms a ‘Narnia’ closet, which if you ever read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, you CONTINUED >

will recall that Lucy entered a magical closet which took her to another snow filled world. This closet may not take you to Narnia exactly, but it will lead you to a secret reading nook filled with books, fairy lights, and soft cushions to curl up on. If the secret closet and the slide wasn’t enough to delight your kid or the inner kid in you, there is more out back. Michelle included a zip line, a mud pie kitchen, and a classic swing to sway from just over the shallow creek that runs behind the cottage. Michelle says her style sense is ‘I love everything!’ she says with a laugh. The mix of colors and textures attests to that and yet the effect is not chaos, instead it is a house brimming with creativity and imagination. In fact, she says that every room with its hidden delights is a kind of story telling that invites you to embrace some magic into your life... just like a character in a book. Michelle says everyone should live a ‘magical life’ and she really means it. She says the cottage is designed to make you feel more connected, more child like, and with a sense of adventure. Too often when we go away on vacation we find ourselves still hooked on our phones, just in a different place. At Foxwood cottage, Michelle says she hopes guests will bake, read books, do a puzzle, make a mud pie, do something that engages that creative spirit. Maybe, even create some magic of their own. So, can style really be a destination? The only honest answer is you have to experience it for yourself, and see if Foxwood Cottage casts its spell on you too. When it comes to home improvement, most people know what to do inside the house; paint the walls, swap the floors, update the kitchen. But for many homeowners, the yard remains a mystery. That’s where Julie and Jamie Thorley, founders of The Yard Stylist, step in. Launched in 2011, The Yard Stylist was born from Julie’s background in real estate and a simple belief: your outdoor space should feel like a natural extension of your home. “We saw so many buyers excited to make changes inside, but completely overwhelmed by the yard,” she says. “We knew we could help.” From peaceful retreats to party-ready patios, The Yard Stylist blends form, function, and imagination. It all starts with a one-on-one consultation to understand how the space will be used. From there, Julie and her team build a custom design, complete with 3D renderings, material guidance, and hands-on project management through installation. No detail is too small, and no vision too big. Julie works closely with clients to balance beauty and functionality. Whether that means adding turf for playful pups, cozy fire pits for family nights, or stylish pergolas that bring shade and charm to the desert landscape. But for Julie, the most rewarding part isn’t just the design, it’s the memories that follow. “It’s the thank-you texts and photos of families enjoying their new spaces. That’s what stays with us.” Whether you’re dreaming of a shaded backyard lounge or a play-friendly paradise, The Yard Stylist brings vision, creativity, and warmth to every project; turning outdoor spaces into styled, lived-in extensions of home. www.theyardstylist.com

in particular, seeing it with your own eyes and trying it on just can’t be beat. Lauren Slama and Jeannie MacGillivray, owners of Dusk Boutique, melded convenience with old-fashioned in person shopping by putting their shop on wheels. They wanted to provide their customers with convenience but without losing the connection and even the fun of shopping. Together, Lauren and Jeannie have over 40 years of experience in the fashion industry and bring their eye and knowledge to their mobile boutique. They bring their beautifully styled boutique to events and pop up markets where women enjoy both the latest trends and classic items. Lauren and Jeannie also help to style their clients and the feedback has been encouraging. ‘Our customers truly love and appreciate our creative styling.’ they say, and this just motivates them to expand their reach and quality of service. The demand for styled and innovative shopping in Queen Creek is only growing. Dusk Boutique answers that call with unique and elevated fashion. Some of the most popular items have been sets ‘from casual and styled to some polished and preppy, we don’t seem them fading anytime soon.’ Going into Fall trends they see ‘lots of browns’ coming into the fore as well as a continuation of the country chic trend and romantic laces as well. So leave the dusty boxes on your doorstep behind and replace it with the feel of a shopping bag swinging from your arm, knowing what you bought is just perfect for you.

Bloomin' Blinds is where style meets function.

Window Dressing 30

H OM E U P DAT E | LO CAL SE RVICE S

Owner, Mike Corder

The light in a home is one of the first things you notice when you enter. In sunny Arizona that light is not hard to come by and there has been an ever increasing trend of larger windows and even front doors with glass. As lovely as the light is, you also don’t want to live in a fishbowl. Therefore, framing and covering those windows not only provides privacy but a stylish touch to complete the feel of any room. Mike Corder, owner of Bloomin’ Blinds took us on a tour of Pam and Doug Wertenberger’s home where he recently installed their new home with a variety of stylish blinds. Pam indicated that she wanted a ‘coastal style’ look in the living room. Along with the touches of ocean blue, beige, and white, Pam hoped to get accents on the window that continued the theme. Mike says that the cordless roller blinds give the impression of a natural woven material to complement the curtains. While the blinds appear to be see through from inside the house, allowing a softer light to penetrate the room, no one can see in. The blinds glide easily up and down and while they give a subtle and elegant touch to the window they also provide that much needed privacy and even UV protection. The same roller blinds adorns the bedrooms, bathroom, and even the front door. No need for a peep hole to see who is at the door, as mentioned, you can see out without being seen. You don’t have to sacrifice light or beauty, or even overwhelm the windows with too much hardware or fuss. Pam said she was looking for something that would look good but still be affordable. She found it in Bloomin’ Blinds. www.bloominblinds.com

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | BEAU T Y

Sarah Regan, owner of Elliora Holistic Hair Head Spa, started experimenting with bold colors in her youth. After surviving years of over-processing, her journey toward holistic hair care has been deeply personal. In 2020, after seeing widespread struggles with hair loss, scalp issues, and damage, Sarah knew it was time to make a change. “I realized most of the products we use are filled with chemicals that not only harm our hair but also disrupt our health.” That discovery led her to adopt organic, chemical-free products and a 97.5% plant-based color line. Her clients are now enjoying stronger, shinier hair, and even regrowth in places they thought were gone for good. Sarah’s personal beauty philosophy mirrors this healthy approach: simple, clean, and easy to manage in the midst of busy modern life.“Our beauty routines shouldn’t add more stress.” She loves trends like gray blending, which embraces “sparkles” for a softer grow-out, and lived-in color techniques that minimize upkeep while maximizing style. These options are perfect for those who want stunning hair with fewer salon visits. For anyone curious about holistic hair care, she encourages an open mind: “You’ll get the same results, if not better...Your hair will thank you.” #holistic_hair_vibes
