For many of us, fall is our favorite season: Warm days and cool evenings. This month, we challenge you to take your personal style to the next level with new fashion options. The fall season ushers in more formal attire for work and events as well as casual yet stylish weekend wear for enjoying the many outdoor activities Queen Creek has to offer in the month of September.
Personal style is not only something to consider for workwear. Style is rewarding on many levels: the enjoyment of discovering looks that make you feel confident, the self-care pleasures of visiting a salon or spa, and elevating your creativity in the ways you show the world who you are.
Fashion is a way of getting in touch with yourself, but your style can also include clothes and accessories that are conversation starters with others and display your unique flair every day.
Honoring your fall style also means opportunities to give back. September is the ideal time to organize your closet and pass along the things that no longer serve you for others to enjoy.
We wish you a stylish autumn with plenty of quality time with friends and family!

Military shaped my life. Having been married to a Marine before, during, and now after his time in service, I know FIRST-HAND the emotions that can be involved with any relocation. So many factors play into relocating and no two moves are alike. Having the honor of working for others during this time, along with my own personal experiences, gives me the unique ability to look for concerns and address them before they cause a problem. I love providing guidance and information that wasn’t always available during my own personal moves. Helping families through wherever life moves them has become a true passion of mine and I would love the opportunity to help you along your journey!
The light glints off original artwork that adorns the walls, even specks shine like gems off the tabletop accoutrements, and then there are the sweeping views from wherever you sit of the majestic Red Rocks of Sedona. Amid this glamour, a black earthenware plate is set before you where, carefully displayed, is a fragrant shrimp ceviche with tostada chips, the colors as bold and inviting as the flavors that will entertain your tastebuds.
ARTICLE BY FLORENCE DANIELS PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARIPOSA AND FLORENCE DANIELSAt the Latin inspired restaurant, Mariposa , owner and chef, Lisa Dahl has set the stage for an entire culinary experience. This is not merely about sating your hunger. Dahl wants you to soak it all in, the light, the views, the atmosphere, as well as the taste. She says that she learned how important ambiance can

be and how all of your senses can be 'nourished'. This is not to say the food takes a back seat, instead it is meant to create a mindful, even reverential setting to an exciting and colorful menu.
Each plate, each recipe, is done with care and consideration. In fact, an entire story is set before you as you take your first bite.
Dahl traveled to South America to research the food, the people, and the culture. She visited Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina to study the various spices, the wine, and the methods. She returned with both knowledge and inspiration, resulting in Mariposa , Spanish for butterfly.
A self-taught cook, Dahl continues to push herself to create and innovate. However, she remains committed to quality ingredients that are fresh, seasonal, and local. Looks matter too, and the presentation will include pops of color to hint at the flavors to come. Dahl began in the fashion industry before she even entered the restaurant business and has an eye for style. This flair clearly extends to the plate where she embraces the 'outrageously delicious' Latin foods.
There are fish tacos served alongside a 3 seed cilantro slaw which is light and fresh. At Mariposa they also make their very own hand made empanadas served with a chimichurri sauce. There are a selection of mouth-watering meats, but Dahl's soups and salads are equally as enticing. Mariposa is just one of six restaurants that Dahl owns and runs in Sedona. In addition she has written cookbooks and has been featured on the Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay, Forbes Magazine, and more.
Dahl's mantra, 'When you cook with love, you feed the soul.' is what continues to drive her passion for great food, and a Sedona gem.

Chelci Schroeder began Wylder Trading Co. just a year ago, selling beautiful kimonos, unique patterns and styles, accessories and more. However, for Chelci, her fashion company doesn't just clothe women in original pieces that reflect their personality. She also addresses the less glamorous side to fashion such as sustainability, questionable sourcing, and working conditions.
Chelci is conscientious of the entire process, from start to finish, in the approach to her clothing line. She is the sole designer but works in partnership with artisans that hail from places like India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Often, the businesses are women-owned, or family owned and Chelci wants to honor their work. Not only that, but she often uses fabrics that were pre-loved and up-cycled with something called the 'kantha' stitch.
This hand stitched method, that is centuries old in practice, is used on reclaimed silks or saris. The result is eclectic and unique pieces that have heart and a history. Chelci herself came from a background in social work with an emphasis on global programs, and healthcare consulting. She has traveled the globe
for humanitarian work and cultural studies. Prior to starting her company, she worked with at-risk communities and health centers throughout the United States. Now, a married mother of two boys, she wanted to do something that could give her flexibility but also feed her creative side.
Chelci believes in the power of style as expression. Her designs are boho crossed with a bit of western that are comfortable, versatile, and even adjustable, allowing you to wear the same item in various ways. Chelci says it's not about quantity but quality, that choosing what to wear can and should be done thoughtfully.
Her designs like her business model are anything but 'fast fashion', embracing style as art and treasuring durable and timeless pieces. All this as well as keeping her fashion sense in line with her values. Chelci clearly takes joy in providing her customers with beautiful clothes with a traceable origin. Every order is wrapped with care, hoping that the recipient not only looks good but knows she can feel good about where her clothes came from. www.wyldertrading.co

Apricot Lane Boutique has the latest Fall trend in Western wear.
Owner, Stephanie Neal, of Apricot Lane Boutique is opening their Queen Creek location just in time for your Fall finds. Here in Arizona our idea of Fall may not exactly call for sweater weather, and yet the new trend in western wear is right up our alley. A simple addition of a stylish cowboy hat and a pair of boots with either jeans, feminine florals, or even a t-shirt dress brings out the cowgirl in anyone. Touches of silver and turquoise, a detailed belt, and fun earrings still glam up even the most casual of looks.

Most of us can say we have that one staple black dress that can be worn at any occasion, and the classic look is not only popular but is elegant and timeless. It is one of the most versatile items we own, never goes out of style and looks good on anyone. But how did this classic look originate?
Prior to the 1920’s, black was reserved for funeral wear, but when Coco Channel made the bold move to print a short, black dress on the cover of Vogue in 1926, all of that changed. The popularity of the black dress skyrocketed, and it became one of the most influential pieces of clothing. Because of its affordability, black remained a popular choice during The Great Depression. The black dress had another boom in popularity when “Breakfast at Tiffany’s’’ debuted, and Audrey Hepburn showcased her iconic black dress with long, black gloves.
We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be. “We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says.
“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.
If you have a dress in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years, don’t be afraid to dust it off and give it new life.
Are you looking for the best cut or style of dress that works best for your body type?

Robyn Jordan said she first tried sewing at age 8. Yet it wasn't the stitching or the needle and thread that captivated her. Instead, it was the notion that you could create 'something from nothing'. However, she admits, her first foray at age 8 was not a success.
Today, a married mom of four, Robyn has worked as a costume designer for 6 years. She has been involved in two productions with INSPIRE Theatre Company, and currently working on her third. She started by creating matching outfits and Halloween costumes for her kids. Only when one of her daughters decided to enter musical theatre did Robyn find herself helping to create costumes for the stage too.
Costume design is very different from the kind of fashion that people wear on the street. For her designs, Robyn must contend with several factors such as lighting, movement, color, sometimes even research into a period piece. A character can even call for special effects if there is a change mid-performance using magnets. In the case of Elsa in Frozen, her old clothes come away to reveal her new identity and outfit.
Robyn says her favorite design was the Pharoah costume for Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. She created an Elvis jumpsuit with lots of glitter and trimming, enough flash to suit a king. They say 'clothes make the man', or in this case the character, and Robyn's creations certainly do that.
