Lemon ricotta pancakes, topped with whipped honey butter, macerated seasonal berries, and maple syrup. Honey whipped feta, accompanied by herb-roasted olives and toasted sourdough. These are just a few of the many delicious dishes available at Honey + Vine, located in Gila River Resorts & Casinos - Santan Mountain. As Public Relations Manager Daniela Vizcarra notes, Honey + Vine, which opened in July, is an entirely new concept that is not available at any of the other three properties.

“Giving our guests a blend of ‘sophistication meets your everyday breakfast hangout’ was very important to us,” she says, adding that the “upscale yet approachable” restaurant offers dining service for breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner, along with a walk-up coffee bar, patio, and bar. “It is open to all guests for a quick cup of coffee, or you can reserve the private dining room.” What makes Honey + Vine unique, Vizcarra says, is its farm-to-table approach, with menu items that feature locally grown and sourced food. “Many of the ingredients, including beans, honey, and olive oil, are sourced directly from Gila River Farms,” Vizcarra says. “We take so much pride in every CONTINUED >

For breakfast, diners can select from a variety of dishes, including the You Do You Omelet made with three eggs and a choice of three fillings, or Soft Poached Eggs Benedict on toasted English muffins with shaved prosciutto, avocado, and hollandaise, served with breakfast potatoes. Several salads and entrees are available at lunch, Vizcarra says, adding that the Pulled Rotisserie Chicken Sandwich with applewood smoked bacon, pepper jack cheese, avocado, pickled red onion, arugula, and smoky house adobo on toasted sourdough is already a favorite among guests. Dinner offers options for any size appetite, including starters, salads, and entrees, like the 7-ounce filet mignon served with Yukon whipped potatoes, roasted mushrooms, sautéed spinach and kale, and red wine butter. Guests with a sweet tooth can satisfy their cravings with a variety of desserts, including

the Summer Strawberry Shortcake, Warm Peach Crisp, New York Style Cheesecake, or Chocolate Mousse Trifle. The extensive beverage menu includes sodas, coffee, iced tea, juice, wine by the glass or bottle, craft cocktails, pressed juice cocktails, and a wide selection of beers. A new brunch menu was unveiled on Sept. 1, and Vizcarra says the restaurant plans to update the menu throughout the holidays with special seasonal dishes and cocktails. She adds that a live DJ will also play music during special occasions. Even though Honey + Vine has not been open long, Vizcarra says business is already going very well. “Our guests are loving the new variety in dishes we offer. We have many regular customers already, and it’s nice to see them get excited to continue to discover their new favorite dishes.” Honey + Vine is open daily for breakfast from 8-11 a.m. and for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and dinner is served Sundays through Thursdays from 4-10 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 4-11 p.m. P l a yA t G i l a . c o m /d i n i n g - n i g h t l i f e honey-vine

FLATIRON CHURCH CHERISHES THE SUPPORT OF THEIR COMMUNITY.

Lead Pastor, Brian Pacheco, says the name of their church was inspired by the most distinctive peak among the range of the Superstition Mountains. The 'Flatiron Peak' as it is known, is called for resembling just that, as it juts out 2,500 feet above. What they may not have realized is that the Flatiron is one of the most challenging hikes, being rugged and vertical, and taking anywhere from 4-6 hours to climb. However, once at the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view from an awe-inspiring vantage point. It may in fact mirror life in many ways, for the challenging paths we must navigate in order to win perspective and gratitude. Brian and his staff have worked for at least a year to open their church, which had their grand opening in July of this year at the Combs Performing Arts Center. In the future, with continued support, they are excited to see how Flatiron Church will grow and develop. They were drawn to the area, not only for the view of Flatiron, but also recognizing the need for more churches in an area with rapid population

growth. Their congregation hails from wider areas too, but the reception has been undeniable. The 400 or so strong that attend services is something Brian is still amazed by and very appreciative of. Often, people come to church, 'because they have questions' says Brian, 'but the community they find here makes them stay'. Flatiron Church is also active in providing many outreach events, gathering basic supplies to the underserved, and even creating a clothes pantry in which they collect children's clothes that go directly to needy children. Brian says that, 'we are called to generosity because we have a generous God.' Clearly, the practice of giving is important, but as we head into the holiday of Thanksgiving, I asked Brian about gratitude as well. Whether a person attends church or not, we all practice gratitude in our own way. A simple 'thank you' does more than exhibit politeness. Brian says that gratitude, 'is a response to being loved and connected'. Two things that certainly have a great bearing on each person's happiness and selfworth. Therefore, since we know how beneficial gratitude can be, a daily habit of giving thanks might be in order. In his own life, Brian and his wife, Belinda, are parents to Cora, 8, Calvin, 6, Mia, 4, and Ruby, 2. Their family usually takes Thanksgiving with their family back in Illinois. The only major holiday they can go, since Christmas is rather a big deal in his line of work. While appreciating some family time up north, Brian says he is grateful for so much more too. The growth of Flatiron Church, which has gone from two to now seven staff members, and the continued support raised through donations.

Brian says that from the amazing families that come to services, to the many wonderful opportunities the church has had so far in its reach and development, they continue to thank their community. The practice of gratitude appears to be cyclical, by giving you also get much. Although, Brian says it is important to give without the expectation of receiving anything. That may well be the aim, but the practice of thanks and giving is an investment that just can't help but get a return. So as we sit down to our gatherings around food and family, we will give thanks for our many blessings and for one another. Flatiron Church will certainly be eager to express their thanks to their community.

Queen Creek is a young town and this is characterized by everything from the date of its incorporation to the median age of the population. Young families flock to raise their kids in the town known for its small town values. This theme of 'youth' is the focus of the Rotary Club of Queen Creek, which itself only really began about a year ago and was officially chartered in July of this year. The club has 33 founding members, made up of business owners, parents, and residents. Their aim is to bring together people who are ready to give their time and energy to serve their local community. Each Rotary chooses their overriding mission to tackle, something that requires special attention. So the members asked local authorities, the Chamber of Commerce, and others to identify the issue affecting Queen Creek that really needed additional focus. The answer was rather surprising and yet poignant, the issue of teen suicide. The problem was slowly on the rise and grew worse during Covid. Rotary member, Brenda Brandhorst who is one of the founders and directors on the board, says that the problem was alarming enough that they committed whole-heartedly to their cause. Throw in the effects of social media and video games, and the need to educate parents and the town at large was apparent. Brenda says this is all about boosting 'teen resiliency' and providing support. The Rotary has begun by hosting events like the screening of the documentary 'My Ascension' which tells the story of one survivor, Emma Benoit. Brenda says that it is through events like these they hope to 'help parents understand how radically different the lives of their children are.' The Rotary also collaborates with organizations and experts like Katey McPherson, a youth mental health advocate. Katey does a lot of speaking engagements alerting parents and educators to the impact of technology and social media. Teens today face numerous challenges in every aspect of their lives. Katey wants to show parents, in particular, the steps they can take to protect and to stay connected to their kids in a world full of dangers and distractions. Her collaboration with the Rotary Club was therefore a perfect and important one. Katey says, 'They have been so great and have done such good work, it is amazing they are only a year old.' By combining their efforts they are extending their reach to deliver a very important message. Their mission is one in which they hope to prevent and educate, but to also start conversations, remove stigmas, and strengthen relationships.

Katey says her work makes her grateful for kids because they are 'so cool, wildly misunderstood, and funny'. Brenda adds that survivors like Emma Benoit provide insight like no one else can. After the screening of her film, Emma remarked on the belief that gratitude and fear cannot co-exist. To practice gratitude means 'your world opens up to learning and giving and it enriches your life in a way you would never expect.' Brenda and the rest of the members of the Rotary Club of Queen Creek are trying to give what resources and abilities they can in order to safely guide teens towards their future. We can all appreciate those difficult teenage years, even without the added pressures of a modern world. The Rotary Club are on a mission to give teens and their families the knowledge and the hope they need.

On November 8th, 2023 Dr. Brent Parrot will celebrate the first anniversary of his dental practice in Queen Creek called It's YOUR Time Dental. However, it has become a date that holds more meaning than he or his wife, Alexis, ever bargained for. On another November 8th, 2018 a fire ripped through their town of Paradise, California and claimed the biggest loss of life and property in California history. For Dr. Parrott, personally, the flames of the Camp Fire consumed his home and his business. The very next day they had a promise to keep. Despite losing everything, they turned their attention to an annual event they hold providing free dental work to veterans. Amidst the uncertainty of their own situation, their entire team chose to focus on what good they could achieve and powered through. They donated almost $20,000 worth of dental work to 40 deserving veterans that day. Alexis, who works alongside her husband as VP of operations, said that helping others helped them to deal with their own loss. Service is a strong theme with Dr. Parrott and it is perhaps why he appreciates the sacrifices of veterans as much as he does. 'I couldn't do what I do if not for our veterans.' he says, clearly holding back the emotion in his voice. They are committed to bringing this tradition to Queen Creek as well, and are hoping to begin on November 8, 2024 their second anniversary of It's YOUR Time Dentistry.

Dr Parrott has over 30 years of experience in his field and wants to share his knowledge and passion for helping people. 'We use our mouths for eating, talking, smiling, and kissing... it needs to be healthy.' he says. We probably don't even realize how hard our mouths actually work for us and do take them for granted. Therefore his practice approaches each patient with compassion, something they want and need; practically like family. This is why his office is called It's YOUR Time Dental, because he wants you to get the treatment you need and then to get on with your life and not be in the chair any longer than you have to be. He even provides free second opinions on any work that you have been advised to get done. He is determined to bring quality dentistry to Queen Creek residents, a town that has now become their new home. Rising from the ashes is never easy, but Dr. Parrott and his wife chose to start again in Queen Creek. They had been considering a potential move for a while since they have four adult children living in Arizona. The Camp Fire, back in Paradise, sped up their move. Now, as their practice has planted roots in the community, they would like to continue providing veterans with the same service they did in the past. They still have a remaining office in California and continue to run it. Last year the veterans event they hosted served over 35 veterans. Bringing their grand total to almost 1,400 procedures provided to over 330 veterans at a value of over $190,000 donated. They have seen veterans from every branch and every war come through. Once, a 96 year old paratrooper from WWII came in wearing his uniform. The camaraderie between veterans is also something Dr. Parrott is still impressed by. 'I saw a 98 year old veteran pay tribute to a 19 year old veteran.' he says. The Traditional Table Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving or an autumn dinner party, setting a festive table creates the perfect cozy atmosphere. Improvise and use what you have around the house for adding elements to the table.

For this classic, traditional look, a plaid throw blanket stands in for a tablecloth to establish a festive base layer. Brass candlesticks with brown taper candles create a simple and elegant centerpiece. Use familiar accents such as amber jars filled with dried grass foliage and brass pheasants to adorn the table. To add a little character to the table, use a recycled wine bottle as a vase. The simple place setting is enhanced with a dried grass accent and brown silk ribbon tied into a bow to add a special touch to your traditional display.

The Fall Garden Party Table Are you planning to dine al fresco this fall? Create an earthy, fall garden party on the porch by using natural, organic elements, greenery and flowers. To make a statement, create a floral chandelier by hanging flowers upside down above the table using fishing wire (if your space allows). The centerpiece that runs down the length of this table consists of fresh eucalyptus with gold candlesticks and a ceramic pumpkin vase filled with flowers placed on top of a tree trunk charger. Adding small pumpkins and fresh flowers along the center gives a little extra character. A Thankful Table This Cranberry Herb Turkey Paste will take your Thanksgiving to a delicious new level.

We often think of cranberries as the topping to our slice of turkey at Thanksgiving.
