Freddy, the owner of Freddy's Taco Shop in Porter, embodies the heart and soul of his community. Originally from Houston, Freddy spent years on the road driving trucks. He found solace in the quiet charm of Porter when he moved here in 2012. His culinary journey began with a pit stop at a quaint spot in Giddings, Texas, where he indulged in breakfast tacos, igniting the spark for his own taco venture.
Tired of the relentless grind of traffic and long-haul journeys, Freddy decided to turn his love for tacos into reality. From day one, his shop was blessed with loyal patrons, some of whom are still avid customers. Recognition grew when the principal of New Caney High School caught wind of Freddy's delectable creations, leading to a partnership that saw his tacos delighting teachers!
Yet, what truly sets Freddy apart is his generosity and compassion Inspired by his customers, he chose to name tacos after those who’ve supported him since the beginning, a testament to the personal touch he brings to his business. When tragedy befell Joshua, a devoted young fan of Freddy’s tacos, Freddy honored his memory by naming a taco after him and donating all proceeds to support the grieving family, showcasing the profound extent of his community spirit
Freddy's Taco Shop isn't just a place for tacos; it's a beacon of warmth and kindness in Porter, where each bite tells a story of love and connection.

It always seems to start with little boys driving their Hot Wheels 100,000 miles on their hands and knees. The sunshine bouncing off the red or yellow coat of paint, lost in a world of imagination, creates a sparkle in their eyes... Cars may be a boy’s first love. That stands true for "Gearheads" Paul Roebuck and Kevin Bayer.
Because
As business owners turned brother-in-laws, their childhood fascination with cars accelerated into a lifelong passion.
With the love of cars comes an appreciation of all things associated with them, and so the engine turns. In 2010, seizing an opportunity to turn their passion into a business, Paul and Kevin founded Texas Best Classics. They saw such reward in completed repairs and restorations of classic, rare, and vintage vehicles. "Our passion was building and collecting cars and trucks, and that brought us all together..."
Fueled by their endeavors, Paul and Kevin had a thirst for automotive excellence, and it drove them to the Las Vegas SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) car show where the pulse of the industry rumbled with innovation and inspiration. SEMA was an opportunity for “full access to the inside where
[Texas Best Classics] could really learn, grow, and be inspired.” And inspired they were! Surrounded by fellow enthusiasts and industry giants, Paul and Kevin found themselves immersed in a world where dreams were built on horsepower and steel. They experienced the latest trends in car culture, networked with valued leaders, and gained insights into the future of automotive design and technology... which only revved their love for the industry.
Owning over 110 vehicles cumulatively, Paul and Kevin turned their Hot Wheel dreams into Real Wheel dreams. Kevin’s ultimate red Ferrari aspirations rolled into his life in his late 30s as a testament of his hard work, while Paul finally got the ‘57 Chevy he had dreamt of since he was 5. There’s something about taking pride in the work required to own and maintain a luxury or vintage vehicle.
Yet, amidst their love of automobiles, Paul and Kevin couldn't help but notice a yawning chasm in the industry. The standards for basic car care seemed to fall short, leaving enthusiasts like themselves frustrated with lackluster detailing and subpar workmanship. “We can do it better,” Kevin said; so they got to work.
Driven by a desire to raise the bar, Paul and Kevin delved into research and development, birthing Leading Edge Car Care and Ceramics. Their vision was clear: to set a new standard of excellence in automotive detailing.
From a meticulously curated product line to rigorous training for their mobile detailers, every aspect of Leading Edge Car Care was infused with Paul and Kevin's unwavering commitment to quality. Their ceramic coating, boasting a 10H blend, promised not just a shine but a shield against the elements, like oxidation, and maintaining the beauty of each vehicle for years to come.
Excellence isn't just about achieving a flawless finish; it's about fostering a mindset of care and preservation that extends far beyond the surface. In a world where every detail matters, Leading Edge Car Care stands as a beacon of craftsmanship, a testament to the passion that drove Paul and Kevin's journey from Hot Wheels to real wheels.
Investing in indoor plants can not only spruce up your living space, but also bring numerous health and well-being benefits
Bringing the outdoors in with the use of house plants is a great way to add color and dimension to your space. We sat down with Jesse Nelson at Family Tree Nursery, based in Kansas, and discussed the benefits of incorporating plant life into your home.“There are plenty of studies on the health benefits of plants, and the evidence suggests that being around plants and caring for plant life increases overall wellness,” explains Nelson. “Anytime you bring a plant into a home or work environment, it’s going to make you feel better. It is going to beautify the space in a way that art cannot, and they also have the added benefit of purifying the air.” There are a wide variety of indoor plants that work for any space and light situation that you may have. Regardless if you have a green thumb or a black thumb, there are plant varieties that fit your lifestyle. Here are a few of our favorite indoor plants to incorporate into your home.
This plant goes by many names such as Snake Plant and Mother-in-Law’s Tongue and is one of the most popular indoor plants. The Snake Plant is for anyone from a green thumb to a black thumb because anyone can grow it. These hardy plants can adapt to any environment and can live in both high light and low light. Snake Plants are great for countertops and tabletops because they grow tall, not
wide. They are great bedside plants because they help purify the air as they go through photosynthesis at night. They only need to be watered about once a month. These plants can also be outdoor plants and can acclimate during the summer months. Be sure to spray the plants three to five times before bringing them back indoors to get rid of any bugs that could have made the plant their home.
Anthurium has gorgeous, colorful flowers and is the easiest indoor flowering plant to care for. It comes in a variety of colors including red, white, orange and purple. Anthurium likes to be dry, so let it go bone dry before watering. Fertilize every so often, especially when blooming. These plants do not like direct sunlight and can be repotted every three to five years.
This cascading plant is gaining popularity due to its succulent-like leaves and also because it is fairly easy to care for. The Hope Peperomia likes medium to bright direct sunlight. It does well as a tabletop plant or a hanging plant. Watering is only needed one time a month regardless of plant size.
“Anytime you bring a plant into a home or work environment, it’s going to make you feel better. It is going to beautify the space in a way that art cannot, and they also have the added benefit of purifying the air.”
This is a slow-growing variety that is architectural and compact. This plant is a great statement piece and looks great in an entryway or by a chair. There are a lot of varieties and colors of the Dracaena. They are very resilient in low light and are great for an office space with little or no light. They like to stay on the dry side, so they like to be watered when they are about ½ to ¾ of the way dry. When watering, give it a good soak. Protip: A moisture meter can be purchased and used to determine how dry your plant is to help determine when it is time to water again.
ANTHURIUM: DRACAENA JANET-CRAIG COMPACTA:

“KNOWLEDGE IS KEY. ACKNOWLEDGMENT IS UNDERSTANDING. HAVING GRACE IS THE CHOICE WE SHOULD ALL MAKE.”
At just five years old, Mattox's journey began with whispers of difference—subtle echoes of delayed speech and tip-toe dances. But it was the tumultuous transition to kindergarten that shattered the silence, revealing a symphony of struggles. The shift from the gentle rhythm of pre-K to the relentless tempo of full-day school plunged Mattox into chaos. The upheaval triggered a meltdown, leaving his parents bewildered and seeking answers. Formal testing confirmed their suspicions—Mattox was diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. Brittany, his mom, couldn't hold back the tears, while
Clay, his dad, remained a pillar of strength. They grappled with feelings of failure, wondering if they had missed something along the way. But with time came clarity, and they realized that their love for Mattox would never waver regardless of the outcome of their journey.
Navigating the challenges of medication was another hurdle, as autism comes with zero instructions. Brittany was initially reluctant to medicate her young son, but with Mattox's severe autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnosis, they knew it was necessary. Finding the right medication was a journey
of trial and error, but they eventually found a solution. With each obstacle they faced, the family embraced a "learn as we go" attitude. The 504 program has been vital throughout Mattox's schooling and ensured equitable education access under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Adapting to Mattox's needs meant maintaining consistent routines and giving advance notice of changes.
Despite the challenges, Mattox thrived in his own unique way. His love for math and sharks was evident from a young age, and his memorization skills were unmatched. As he grew older, his interests diversified, from baseball to breakdancing to theatre. Support from family and friends buoyed the Gibsons through the toughest times. They never treated Mattox differently, allowing him to be the big brother his siblings adored. When meeting new people, they openly discussed Mattox's autism, fostering understanding and acceptance.
Today, Mattox is a thriving teenager and eager to tackle whatever challenges come his way. His parents admire his resilience and determination, knowing that he will pave his own path in his own time. The family has invested unwavering support and unconditional love, believing that Mattox will overcome any obstacles that lie ahead.
Step into a true backyard oasis, where every season brings new delights for the whole family. In the warmth of Summer, the sparkling pool beckons, its crystal-clear waters invite laughter and splashes.
As the sun sets, gather around a crackling fireplace, its warmth embracing as stories are shared and marshmallows are toasted under the starlit sky. Nearby, the hot tub bubbles, offering relaxation through the whimsical muffle of the jets.
Come Autumn, the outdoor kitchen becomes the heart of gatherings, where savory aromas waft through the air while delicious meals are prepared amidst a group of family or friends. Children chase each other through piles of fallen leaves, their laughter mingling with the crisp breeze.
During Winter, the oasis transforms into a cozy retreat as the fireplace casts a comforting glow and the hot tub offers a blissful escape from the chill. Frost dances in the wind, transforming the landscape, but the promise of warmth and togetherness beckons from within.
Spring brings renewal, as the garden bursts forth with blooms while the pool sparkles anew. It's a time for fresh beginnings and outdoor adventures when Magnolia Patio & Pools creates an oasis that holds the promise of joyful memories waiting to be made.
In the world of business, unexpected twists often pave the path to greatness. Such is true of the Edward Jones Investment Company. In 1922, Edward D. Jones Sr. faced a pivotal moment when, after brokering a deal, he received an unexpected offer of "nothing" as compensation. Undeterred by this setback, he charted a new course, establishing his own firm just down the road. Driven by a deep commitment to exceptional customer care, Jones cultivated a culture founded on genuine concern for both clients and colleagues. This dedication fueled the rapid growth of his enterprise, a testament to the power of resilience and integrity in the face of adversity. Through three exemplary advisors in our community, this enduring commitment to excellence continues to shape the firm's legacy.
Investing, by its nature, is taking a leap of faith. Madison has spent her entire life deeply rooted in faith and family, finding joy in helping others achieve their financial goals for themselves and their families. Her relationship with financial advising runs deep; her father was a financial advisor, and she grew up watching him assist his clients. Madison found the combination of strategic investment planning and relationship building to be exactly what she hoped for. After graduating college, she joined Edward Jones, establishing her own office in 2016 upon returning to her home state of Texas with her husband. She strives to stay ahead of the game by constantly learning and expanding her knowledge of current events in the financial sector, ensuring she provides her clients with the best advice possible. The many heartfelt letters she has received from clients are a testament to her success thus far. Madison hopes to leave a legacy of being a genuinely caring person who used her financial knowledge to help individuals achieve their dreams.
The world of Finance was no stranger to Jim when he first joined Edwards Jones upon the recommendation of a good friend. With 18 years spent in the industry, he was eager for a new challenge and the opportunity to help others understand their finances and achieve their financial goals. One of his favorite moments is witnessing a client's “Aha!” moment when everything he has taught them clicks in their mind. He thoroughly enjoys being able to pass on his wisdom and guiding others toward financial achievements they may not have thought possible. Jim values building long-term relationships with clients who return repeatedly, but he also relishes new challenges. By approaching his job with a genuine desire to help others, clients feel his sincerity through the advice he shares, knowing that he genuinely wants to see them achieve their financial dreams, whether it's early retirement or buying a new home. Fortunately, his years of experience, coupled with knowledge and foresight, enable him to assist many who are uncertain about managing their money going forward.
There are many paths that lead people to a career in finance, though some are more circuitous than others. Cameron Hayes, for example, began his career by enlisting in the Army after witnessing the horrors of 9/11. He then attended officer training in the U.S. Naval Academy and served twelve years in the Navy. During his time, he also graduated from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary with an M.A. in Pastoral Counseling. After completing his service with the Navy, Cameron sought a way to blend his desire to serve others and his ethical beliefs into a new career. Upon discovering Edward Jones, he thoroughly investigated their business ethos and practices and felt very much at peace with their commitment to protecting and serving their customers. Cameron himself had experienced significant financial difficulties due to poor decisions in his youth and had hired a financial advisor at the time to help him get back on his feet. This experience fueled his strong desire to assist others in similar situations, as well as to help financially stable individuals grow their wealth to achieve financial freedom. Alongside his dedication to financial advising, Cameron also enjoys sharing great Dad jokes.

Retirement marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and sound financial choices. A key element of effective retirement planning is diversifying your income sources. While staples like 401(k)s or IRAs are foundational, it’s equally important to branch out. Tax considerations significantly influence retirement strategies. Each financial action, from asset sales to account withdrawals, can carry tax consequences. Knowing these details can greatly influence one’s overall retirement income. Tactics such as Roth IRA conversions can help distribute tax liabilities over time, allowing for tax-free withdrawals later on. Using strategies like tax-loss harvesting can balance out capital gains, ensuring proactive steps to reduce tax impact.
Annuities have long been recognized as a popular retirement income source. An annuity is essentially a financial contract that can offer a steady and predictable income, with options that might even extend to lifetime payouts. Retirees should also be aware of certain drawbacks. These might include fees and expenses, issues around liquidity, and potential concerns related to inflation.
Delving into the world of Alternative Investments, retirees can consider assets such as hedge funds, private equity and real assets, among others. These investments may promise higher returns and provide diversification away from traditional stocks and bonds. However, the complexities of these investments mean they often come with challenges like illiquidity, higher fees and the need for a thorough understanding of the investment itself.
The backbone of many retirement plans, Social Security Income, provides a safety net for millions. Established with the intent of financial assistance, the amount one receives depends on various factors. There are also strategies retirees can employ to maximize these benefits, such as deciding on the optimal time to claim or considering the implications of working while receiving benefits.
Delaware Statutory Trusts (DSTs), while not familiar to everyone, can be a potential retirement income source. Historically rooted, DSTs offer a form of passive real estate investment, which can lead to regular distributions. They also open doors to 1031 exchange possibilities, offering tax deferral benefits. But, just like any other investment, DSTs have their limitations, notably the lack of liquidity and the heavy reliance on trust management.
You only get one retirement. In the ever-evolving world of finance, staying updated and flexible is essential to ensure the continued relevance and efficiency of one’s retirement strategy.
