In February, everyone’s thoughts tend towards love and relationships. One of the sweetest stories of all is when two people begin as high school sweethearts and make their first love, their only love. There's something about a first love that stamps a memory on your heart. A few held onto those first loves, planted a seed that grew into a garden, and are still watering it with love many years later. Out of over 50 couples nominated on our PCL FB page, read about three that were selected.

CREG AND JENNIFER MIXON Some of the most classic love stories start with a little girl chasing the little boy she had a crush on around the playground during recess; Creg and Jennifer Mixon’s story is no different. Despite the early start, their first date wasn’t until high school. Creg boldly asked Jennifer out, but she wasn’t allowed to ride in cars with boys. Instead, she challenged him to meet her at a dance in Kingwood. She was thrilled when he showed up. They walked across the street to have dinner that evening. A week later Creg asked her to be his girlfriend, and from that moment they have been inseparable. With two teenage daughters and a super busy life, being unwavering supporters of each other is one of the keys to their 18-year marriage.

Ty and Terri Trout are celebrating 25 years of enduring love and dedication, blessed with the joy of raising two children. When he heard that Terri had a crush on him, Ty Trout bit the bullet and asked her out to a cook-off at Bull Sallas Park. That fun-filled first date rounded out with a sweet kiss goodnight, marking the beginning of their journey together. When asked about their favorite date places in the community, they said they have had so many adventures and love so many things about their hometown that they couldn’t pinpoint just one. However, their favorite place to be is sitting together on their back porch on crisp mornings, sharing a fire and cups of coffee. “Life is so fast, enjoy the time you share and laugh as much as possible.”
“Commitment. Commitment is the KEY to a successful marriage. A commitment to God, a commitment to one another, and a commitment to our families,” are the wise words from Jerry and Tina Tobias, a pair of NCHS Sweethearts. Having known each other since 5th grade, their lives have truly been entwined for as far back as they can remember. It all began with a courageous phone call from Jerry where Tina turned him down. Little did she know that a rebound phone call would lead to almost 45 years of marriage. Two weeks before Christmas, surrounded by his entire family, Jerry proposed to Tina by placing an engagement box on her plate. Seven months later the two were married, and the rest is history. Together they have weathered many tragedies and tribulations, but they have never wavered in their faith both in God and in each other’s love. Love that stands the test of time like that is an inspiration, and Tina said she hopes that they will indeed inspire other couples to make that commitment and see it through no matter what. In these days of progress and growth, it's becoming rare to find a family-owned practice that truly considers itself a family. Hardy Webster Dental is one of those gems. This close-knit practice began in 1985, when Dr. Hardy first took the reins of what was Kate Burrow's practice in the historic heart of Humble. Their practice stands as a testament to tradition meeting innovation. In 2010, Dr. Kirk Webster joined the team, and has since taken over as the new owner, furthering their legacy of compassionate care. Aside from being colleagues, Dr. Kirk and Dr. Hardy are also friends outside of the office and enjoy a yearly trip together to further their comradery. Dr. William Kirk Webster, or Dr. Kirk as his patients know him, graduated from dental school in 2010, and joined the practice fresh from graduating after meeting Dr. Hardy by chance at a gym during a powerlifting competition. Dr. Hardy had taken the practice over from one of Humble’s first dentists. “Dr. Hardy is this legendary figure around here,” enthuses Dr. Kirk about his partner and mentor. He credits Dr. Hardy’s genius and painstaking care for guiding him through all the aspects of dental care, from the mundane to the truly intricate. Dr. Hardy will be celebrating 40 years of dentistry in 2024, and the practice plans to have a big party for him to celebrate this amazing milestone. Hardy Webster Dental has a stellar reputation in their community, which truly sets them apart from other dental practices. Dr. Hardy has created and maintained a business that puts the patient first above profits and everything else. Hardy Webster Dental has a saying, ‘The patient knows before they owe." They
feel patients should know upfront what everything is going to cost, no sticker shock or extra fees added in. Dr. Kirk grew up in New Caney and met his wife while in high school. “She’s been my rock, steering me towards dentistry- blending my love for science, business, and hands-on work.” He had always wanted to own his business rather than work for someone else and considers himself a science nerd at heart. He recalls spotting a rare mouth cancer early on and how his patient was able to get it removed... and still thanks him for catching it at every visit. Having experienced for himself the life-changing benefits of dentistry after enduring a major maxillofacial surgery in college, Dr. Kirk became a true believer in his future craft. “It changed my life, literally. From a ‘guarded smile’ to being confident - it’s a transformation I wish for my patients. There’s real power in a confident smile, and I get to help people find that.” Dr. Kirk enjoys time outdoors: hunting, fishing, and backpacking. Although he still has a passion for fitness, he has gotten into more functional fitness, such as yoga, saunas, etc. He says it gives him the necessary energy to keep up with both his job and his four daughters, who are all into dance. On the other hand, Dr. Hardy is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing. He has a ranch in Montgomery, TX and another in Colorado where he likes to indulge in those hobbies. Hardy Webster Dental is big on educating patients. Dedication like that is what makes this practice a true institution in the community it has been passionately serving for many years.

ecelia Ryals has had more than her fair share of ups and downs. Having been the primary caregiver for her husband following his diagnosis with M.S. for numerous years, she subsequently faced a heartbreaking loss and the challenge of raising five children as a single mother. Despite the hardships, however, she found solace in her passion for baking. “Baking is my sense of release of everything that is around me. I get in my zone,” Cecelia relates. She embarked on the journey of learning to bake cheesecakes to test her ability and explore her
culinary skills. She mentions that her family loves cheesecakes, and when she began sharing them with her neighbors, they also loved them. After losing her husband, Cecelia recalls receiving numerous messages from people requesting a cheesecake. Given their popularity and the encouragement from friends, many of whom recognized the potential, they suggested she turn her baking skills into a side business, especially considering she was now a single mother. Cecelia took those sincere suggestions to heart, and Ryals Sweets was born. Cecelia operates Ryals Sweets through a Facebook page, providing customers the
freedom to request any cheesecake flavor they crave. She embraces the challenge of personalization, enjoying the creative process of adding and subtracting flavors to make each creation uniquely her own. Cecelia takes a recipe and uses it as a starting point to craft her distinct culinary masterpieces. As she puts it, “It’s all trial and error really.
