LIFESTYLE LETTER
Hey Port St. Lucie,
November 2023 PUBLISHER

Alexa Smith | alexa.smith@citylifestyle.com
Welcome November! We can't wait for Thanksgiving to come around so we can spend time with our family and friends. This is already our seventh issue and it feels like just yesterday we were sharing our launch issue back in May. Somehow we're already at Holiday Season and our baby girl has turned ONE! Ah, how time flies. Appreciate every second! While we’re discussing appreciation, our November issue is themed "Thankful". We are excited to share some different articles for you to read and learn about around our community. We had the opportunity to interview Mayor Martin, some local companies and share their stories, provide tips to enhance your Holiday table, and more. Let me not forget to mention that we're thankful for you. That's right, you reading this magazine shows your support for the work we and the businesses who support it have been doing each month. We have had multiple people reach out with different ideas and requests for articles throughout our monthly issues and we're doing our best to work with each of them and incorporate the wonderful ideas. We have learned so much about our community and hope that we've been a resource for you as well! Should we be able to answer any questions or chat with you further, find our emails over to the right and don't hesitate to reach out! All Our Best,

Leftover Thanksgiving Croquettes ARTICLE BY MEATING STREET SEAFOOD & STEAKHOUSE
directions 1.Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. 2. In a large bowl, combine stuffing, turkey, parmesan cheese, and parsley. Mix until well blended. Using your hands, form 1 1/2 inch balls and place on parchment lined baking sheet. Continue forming remaining balls. Place balls on baking sheet and transfer to the freezer and let set for 30 minutes (this step isn’t necessary but it does make the next step easier). 3. Set up an assembly line that includes four bowls lined in a row. Fill the first bowl with mashed potatoes, the second bowl with flour, the third bowl with the lightly beaten egg and the fourth bowl with panko crumbs.
Make a different, delicious appetizer with all your leftovers! After Thanksgiving, we all know how many boxes are stacked in our refrigerator filled with leftovers to be heated up for the next few days! Most people pop them in the microwave as is and eat the same old meal day after day. Luckily, Meating Street Seafood & Steakhouse provided us with a lovely “Thanksgiving Croquette” recipe to cook with our leftovers! That gorgeous cover photo (that likely made you hungry) can turn into this. What a different, yet still delicious flavor and meal for leftovers! Let’s give it a go...
Thanksgiving Croquettes Recipe ingredients • • • • •
2 cups stuffing 3/4 cups turkey, finely chopped 3/4 cup finely grated parmesan cheese 3 tablespoon chopped parsley 4-5 cups cold mashed potatoes
• • • •
4. Remove stuffing balls from freezer and wrap about 4 tablespoons of mashed potato around it. Make sure you are working with cold mashed potatoes for easy handling. Gently roll ball in flour and then transfer it to the egg bowl. Using your hands or a fork, roll the ball around to cover it in egg. Finally dip and cover the ball in panko crumbs. Place ball on parchment lined baking sheet and continue forming the remaining balls. 5. Fill a pan with enough oil to submerge the Thanksgiving leftover balls. Heat oil to 365 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with paper towels. Working in batches, drop 2-3 balls into the oil and fry until balls are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to paper-towel-lined parchment baking sheet to drain. Continue deep frying remaining balls and adjust heat as needed to keep oil at a consistent 365 degrees F. Serve immediately with gravy and enjoy!
1 cup flour 1 large egg; lightly beaten 2 cups panko crumbs 1 1/2 - 2 cups of gravy for dipping

How simple household elements can enhance your Holiday table
ARTICLE BY ALEXA SMITH
Holiday Season is finally here and it’s time to scramble to get our homes ready for hosting! The anxiety might start to set in as you prepare your dinner table for company, using the same centerpiece or runner you have the previous year… or two. Or, you might not even have a centerpiece because it’s just not your forte! But let’s take a minute to express how easy this can actually be for you to WOW your guests. Take a look around your house, the options are all over - just think outside the box! Take a scarf to utilize down the center of the table as a runner, mix textures, or dive into those old candles and find ones to mismatch and add height, we could go on & on! There are six key things to think about and focus on when trying to create that unique, DIY centerpiece for the Holiday Season. Meghan Stricker has given us incredible tips for our dinner table to become a sure crowd pleaser this year. Keep it simple and use things from your home or family; afterall, it’s about your story and these are memories for a lifetime!
Color Scheme:
Thanksgiving has long been thought of browns, oranges and reds, much like autumn leaves. But, add fun pops to adjust this! Elegant burgundy, delicate creams, a bright orange, or my personal favorite - black!
Linen:
Done are the days of floor length linen. Let your table shine by making a runner out of candles, leaves, pumpkins or lanterns! Should you choose to be traditional, an instant conversation starter and great way to enhance basic linen is adding a runner of butcher paper! It’s a great way to create place cards or even label dishes right on the ‘runner’.
Candles:
Remember we talked about the immediate height? Mix pillars, candlesticks and colors! They add an instant touch of class to a simple table. Year over year you can continue adding and mixing the different ones from old to new. Save old bottles of wine, liquor or even beer, to double as a candle stick holder! This will engage conversation and be an easy crowd pleaser.

Floral:
AH, a must for any table! You can use one large bouquet of fresh flowers or break the bouquet into smaller sections with bud vases to create an array of smaller, simpler statement pieces throughout the table center. You can even use those bottles again as holders! In addition, tie small bundles to enhance your place settings.
Place Settings:
Instead of expensive chargers, simply layer a salad plate right on your dinner plates. Mix textures like a satin napkin with a velvet ribbon, or a baking twine ribbon on a patterned napkin. (I recommend splurging on linen napkins - it’s a game changer!) Add a small element of the holiday like a mini pumpkin or a leaf. Using that butcher paper? Personalize it by writing names at each setting!
For the Kids:
Instead of adding a holiday element to the place setting for kids, add colored pencils or chocolate. If you use butcher paper, let them draw or have everyone write their favorite holiday memory. Add a tic-tac-toe board or hangman to keep them entertained so you can enjoy that second helping of pie, or third glass of wine!

Mavit Stone Services
A C O M PA N Y W H O W A N T S TO M A K E YO U R V I S I O N A REALITY
ARTICLE BY ALEXA SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY: GROUP SHOT BY PHIL GALDYS; SAILFISH PHOTOGRAPHY Your home is where you spend most of your days, starting and ending them in the same space. It’s a safe haven; the one place that feels good to leave, but feels better to come back to! But, most people will only find this to be true when their home has all of the attributes they dreamed of. That could be a new outdoor kitchen, a full bathroom remodel, or upgraded cabinets in your kitchen. Instead of keeping these enhancements on your wish list, with Mavit Stone Services you can create your vision and start the process in watching it come true. Mavit Stone Services is a family owned business that opened in 2019. The father, Jose Rodrigues, was in cabinetry and carpentry for over 30 years. He grew up in Brazil and after moving to America, became extremely talented in this field and initially opened “Mavit Services” many years back. Jose has three sons, Matheus, Victor and Thomas, creating the special and personalized name, MAVIT. Matheus became heavily involved in stone fabrication and installation. After gaining a vast amount of experience, his father decided to expand Mavit Services and incorporate stone fabrication and installation into the business as well, bringing Matheus on board as the expert. Victor later graduated with a college degree in Business Administration and after receiving his degree, became a part of the family business working on the sales and administration side. He now runs the

business in terms of management and ownership. The team pulls on their own strengths and have been able to successfully grow the business by using their individual areas of expertise from cabinetry, stone installation, business administration and customer service. The warehouse has over 1000 slabs in stock, fabrications, and tiles, and continues to grow as services are added. They have a showroom that recently has been expanded to hold the large amount of products and inventory for customers to choose from. It’s a space for customers to enter to see something grand, inspiring them in creating their vision for their home projects. Walking through the showroom gives you the opportunity to touch, feel and see different colors, textures, and styles you may not have known about previously, along with the quality of each. Ever order something online that seemed perfect, only to be let down with the quality or look of it in person once it’s delivered? The beauty of this showroom is to avoid that before it happens again. For some people, their vision may be something that seems impossible. They may think that the project they’re dreaming of is too difficult or too custom, but Victor’s response to this is “Just about anything is possible. If the customer wants something, who am I to tell them they can’t do it? We’ll get it done!” This goes into the philosophy and mission behind Mavit Stone; to provide customers with exceptional

FA LL BACK YA R D MOVIE NIGHT ARTICLE BY CRYSTAL D’URSO @TREASURECOASTMOM
Here is all you need for the perfect family night in your own home Cooler weather brings more enjoyable outdoor activities and is the best season for fall backyard movie nights. This is a great, affordable way to entertain kids at home and can be recreated countless times with different themes; birthdays, holidays, and other celebrations.
1. GET A PROJECTOR If you want a high-resolution projector, I suggest buying one with over 1,000 lumens. You can get a great deal on them for under $100. We purchased ours on Amazon. It was so simple to use; I setup the projector on a stool and plugged in my laptop with the HDMI cord. At first, we thought the picture wasn’t bright enough to see, but once we unplugged the twinkle lights we had over our pallet of blankets, the view was much better.
2. SET UP THE SCREEN The budget-friendly way to have an outdoor movie night at home is to use a sheet. You can get creative with how you hang it. We set two paint cans on the roof of our shed and placed the sheet under it. Use what you have! You can easily use clothing pins or a hammer and nails to hang your sheet on trees, a fence, or the side of your house. You could also buy a backdrop frame to hang it up.
3. LAY OUT YOUR SEATING We placed yoga mats under the blankets to make a comfortable seating area for our backyard movie night. We also used a cushion ottoman, a bedrest pillow, big feather-stuffed pillows and knitted blankets to make the space extra-cozy.
22
O UT D OOR A DV E N T U R E | E NTE RTAI NME NT
JUST A FEW SIMPLE STEPS!
4. SETUP YOUR LIGHTING Having too much light near your screen will interfere with your outdoor theatre experience. We setup charming twinkle lights over the seating area, which was perfect for the look and the mood- but when it was time to watch the movie, we turned them off to see the screen better. We still had the light from our bug-repellent tiki torches. To elevate the lighting, you can set up a bonfire to give you that camping-feeling! If it’s not too hot out, this would be a perfect idea to make S’mores.
5. PREPARE THE SNACKS We found cute pumpkin “cupcake cups” and filled them with candy, cookies, and popcorn. I found this wooden dessert stand at Home Goods, and we used it to keep the snacks off of the blankets-but you can use almost anything to set the snacks on. Action! You’re all set to enjoy a fall backyard movie night with friends and family. To find more family-friendly ideas, visit TreasureCoastMom.com and follow along on Instagram. American Veteran Power Washing Services Your one stop solution for exterior needs
ARTICLE BY ALEXA SMITH
Tying in our November theme of "Thankful", I'd like to share the story of American Veteran Power Washing Services. A few months ago we heard about a story that happened in our community. An elderly woman who had just lost her husband had received notices from her HOA to fix her driveway or else she’d be fined and potentially evicted. She reached out to the community requesting help in the services, and Chris Brignano, the owner of American Veteran Power Washing, reached out to complete the service free of charge to help someone in need. He bought the materials and tools needed and did the job immediately. Later, the woman tried paying him once she had the funds, which he would not accept. This story touched our hearts. It’s so nice to hear positive stories happening, especially when it’s so close to home. After further

speaking to Chris about this story, I was able to learn more about his business as a whole. The Army Veteran opened his business about four years ago, providing services throughout the Treasure Coast. Within a short four years, he has managed to grow his business to go way beyond power washing. They’re a one stop solution for pretty much any outdoor needs from soft washing, to paver cleaning & sealing, to exterior painting and stain work for both commercial and residential properties. Maintaining all 5-star reviews on Google and Yelp, the service he provides goes above getting a job done. Chris is a Florida native, born and raised locally! He currently has a five month old baby, Hunter Adam, with his wife of many years, Jessica. Growing up, he helped his father with his tree business and would help
power wash and maintain the equipment. As a young kid, he started offering power washing driveways for neighbors around town to make some extra money. Later in life, after he finished serving in the military, he had a couple of different jobs until he decided it was time to start something for himself and his family. Realizing the experience and enjoyment he had in power washing and multiple other outdoor jobs, he decided to start his own business. He has since grown a team under him, all of which are fire fighters, helping support and employ our local first responders. Many people nowadays choose services based on relationships. Being able to have trust and comfort in someone to use them frequently is much easier than using someone once, not being satisfied and starting your search all over again. With American Veteran Power Washing, his customers are repeat customers. He strives to build relationships to assist in multiple projects and provide them with comfort every time they call and need a job done. Chris says “I provide free estimates, quality products, and service delivered. I talk to my homeowners throughout the process to keep them informed and don’t leave them in the dark. I splurge for the right products, I ensure there are no chemicals to affect anything on your property, and I definitely spray and protect your vegetation!” He once received a call from a construction company at 5pm for an emergency power washing for the next day. Chris and his team got there and worked until 3:30am that night, ensuring they didn’t leave until the job was completed and they were confident in their work. This is the service that they are known for and strive to provide; reliability, dependability, and honesty. Port Saint Lucie has hundreds of power washing companies in the area. (You read that right, hundreds!) So, we can understand how overwhelming it may be when you need services. Comparing each company, reading reviews, getting estimates, the list goes on. Hopefully we’re able to avoid that for you, and make your decision simple. American Veteran Power Washing will stand behind his service, beliefs, and products to give you top quality finished projects. Don’t keep putting off that job you’ve been wanting done. Get your free estimate today and check them out. veteranpowerwashingservices.com/

We’ve All Heard Her Name... If you’re reading this, that means you’re likely a resident of Port Saint Lucie. A fast growing, evolving, clean, safe city that we are blessed to be a part of! While we’re on the chapter of “Thankful” for this November issue, my gratitude goes out to our Mayor of the city, Mayor Shannon Martin, who I’d like to introduce on a more personal level.
We’ve all heard her name, we all know she’s the Mayor of the city, but what we might not know is the passion behind her career for our town and residents, along with who she is as a person outside of this career. Shannon has a son and a daughter; Nick and Jordan, along with her husband, Aaron, who moved together to PSL from

Baltimore in 2006. Her husband was a police officer up north in an extremely dangerous area, which prompted their thoughts of moving to the Sunshine State for retirement, a bit early. Instead of waiting, they packed up and moved to Port St. Lucie after doing heavy research for a safe, good city to work in and raise a family. Her husband is now the Detective Sergeant with the PSL Police Department and both kids are finishing up school to get their Bachelor’s Degrees. Over the years, Shannon started getting involved and paying more attention to learning about this new town she’d be raising her children in. She started attending council meetings, planning & zoning meetings and getting an understanding of the decisions being made and where the city was heading. In 2010 there was a city councilman seat up and after she learned about a few decisions that were in the works, she felt that the financial decisions being made were irresponsible and problematic and decided to get involved and run for office. After winning, she ran again in 2014, was then appointed Vice Mayor in 2016 and her journey has continued going upward. In 2021 the opportunity came up to run for mayor to fill the vacancy since the previous term was vacated early and then in 2022 she officially won for her 4 year term. A lot of times when you’re reading about or talking about an elected official, you paint them as a politician. You see them like you see those in the federal government and don’t understand the reality of the position at the local level. Shannon expressed, “When it comes to leading a city of
240,000 people, it’s about our residents first and what’s in the best interest of our community. I have the ability as Mayor and elected official to do the most that I can, touch the people closest to me and my community, where I also live, work, play, and raise my family. That’s the most important thing to me; making sure everyone knows this is not about ME. It’s about our community and that we’re doing what is best to grow the community and provide services our residents want and need in order to continue providing a safe, clean, beautiful city.” As a Port St. Lucie resident, it was extremely comforting hearing our Mayor express that she isn’t just an elected official, she’s a person too, raising a family in the same town we are, who wants the same amenities and safety throughout the community. I was able to feel the passion in her work and understand that she believes in service and the residents above all else. In addition, all of these decisions aren’t only made by her. She has a strong, educated team beside her that helps bring the community together and make it the best it can be. Her team, council and community are all a part of coming together and creating what we have today. Mayor Martin continues to serve on different committees to keep herself involved and volunteers with local organizations. She is the Vice President of the Humane Society and has been serving on the Fire District Board of Commissioners for 13 years, just to name a couple. If she’s asked to volunteer, she’ll be there. She is always doing what she can to stay involved and help the community however they need.

“I’m never off duty in a way, because even if I’m on vacation, I’m always looking around, comparing the cities and thinking of new ideas to bring home to make our city better.”
It’s always interesting though to learn about a person and be able to connect with them on a different level. Maybe your background doesn’t call for politics, but you’re an animal lover, or nature lover. These are qualities that Shannon can easily connect with you on! She considers herself to be a crazy cat lady, as she’s a huge cat and overall animal lover. In addition, camping with her family is one of her favorite things

to do. She loves the outdoors, nature, state parks and traveling. “I’m never off duty in a way, because even if I’m on vacation, I’m always looking around, comparing the cities and thinking of new ideas to bring home to make our city better,” Shannon says. We are thankful to have a Mayor who keeps us, our families, and our city in her best interest. Here’s to many more incredible additions coming ahead, Port St. Lucie!
