Brandon Aubrey's path to the NFL is a story of perseverance, passion, and the unexpected twists of fate. From his days at Plano Senior High School to Notre Dame, Brandon Aubrey never dreamed of landing in the NFL, let alone as a kicker for the Dallas Cowboys. Aubrey's journey is a remarkable tale of dedication and unexpected opportunities. Despite never envisioning himself as a football player, Aubrey's path serves as a testament to the unpredictable yet rewarding nature of pursuing one's dream.
Growing up in Plano, soccer was Aubrey's main focus. From his earliest days, he poured his heart and soul into the sport, proudly representing Plano Senior High and excelling on the field with the Academy League select soccer team. For Aubrey, every kick, every goal, was not just a moment in a game but a step closer to his dreams.
At Notre Dame, Aubrey's talent shone brightly as he made his mark on the soccer field, earning accolades as a starter for three consecutive years. After graduating, he ventured into Major League Soccer, becoming a first-round draft pick. Surprisingly, Aubrey's journey took a significantly different turn when he decided to utilize his degree and
pursue a career in software engineering. A field he had long been interested in since first taking a computer science class at Plano Senior High School under the inspiring Ms. Gallaton.
This new chapter in Aubrey's life brought him and his wife, Jenn, back to their cherished hometown of Plano, where Aubrey found a fulfilling job with GM Financial in Arlington. Following in her father's footsteps, Jenn pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. Despite encountering health challenges that prevented her from flying, Jenn's determination never wavered. Instead, she found a way to continue living her dream by working as a pilot instructor for American Airlines.
In 2019, with Jenn's new career underway, Aubrey embarked on a new journey when he connected with renowned kicking coach Brian Egan. Their partnership began in Frisco, where Aubrey eagerly attended one of Egan's free camps. Under Egan's guidance, Aubrey dedicated himself wholeheartedly over the next two years to honing his kicking skills, determined to excel in his newfound passion.
A game-changing moment arrived when Aubrey attended a showcase and crossed paths with John Carney, a former Notre Dame athlete from the '80s. Eager to challenge himself against top-tier competition, Aubrey participated in a free-agent kicking event. It was during this event, he caught the eye of Skip Holtz. Carney recognized immense potential in Aubrey, and that was all Holtz needed to hear, despite Aubrey never having kicked in a single game. Aubrey's relentless efforts paid off when the Birmingham Stallions selected him in the 2022 USFL Draft, offering him the chance to showcase his talent on a professional stage.
Aubrey's journey was far from over! The Dallas Cowboys recognized Aubrey's potential and signed him in early July of 2023. This significant milestone marked the culmination of years of his hard work and dedication.
Aubrey's story is a testament to the power of determination and seizing opportunities. From humble beginnings at a free camp to earning a spot on one of the most prestigious football teams, Aubrey's journey is a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes everywhere.
And amidst his new career with the Dallas Cowboys, Aubrey and his wife, Jenn, joyfully anticipate the arrival of their first child, adding excitement and anticipation to their journey. As Aubrey continues to pursue his dreams, his journey serves as a reminder that with perseverance and the right support, anything is possible. Here's to Aubrey and the bright future that lies ahead as he continues to kick his way to success.

The Plano East Senior High School Basketball team completed its pursuit to perfection with 53-41 win over Round Rock Stony Point in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 6A State Championship Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Plano East is now the first school in Class 6A history to complete an undefeated season and cap it off with a title.
As the top-ranked Texas team and #3 team in most national polls, the Panthers claimed the first state championship in school history behind D.J. Hall’s 18 points and six rebounds. Rachard Angton added 13 points and Jordan Mizell pitched in eight points and eight rebounds. Hall was named the Conference Final Most Valuable Player.
Defensively, the Panthers held Stony Point's shooting to 17-43 (39.5%), forcing 13 steals and 20 total turnovers.
“It was a team effort,” said Plano East Head Coach Matt Wester. "They had the utmost confidence in themselves. They had already played some of the best, beaten some of the best. When you work as hard as they work, that is where your confidence comes from.”
Stony Point (38-2) finishes the season #2, with both losses coming to Plano East. The highly anticipated meeting was a rematch of the Championship Basketball Tournament held in Mansfield on December 30, 2023, where the Panthers won 54-46.
“I am so excited and proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of our Plano East Panthers, winning the state basketball championship on the heels of a perfect season,” Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams. “This victory not only showcases the talent and dedication of our student-athletes, but also demonstrates the power of unity and community support. As a district, we understand the vital role of athletics and extracurricular activities in shaping well-rounded and successful graduates. I am grateful to our supportive community who embraced our recent athletic alignment, which has brought us together in celebrating our athletic teams and has fostered a sense of unity and belonging. Congratulations to the Panthers players, coaches, parents and to all who have contributed to this historic win. This victory further solidifies Plano ISD as a ‘Triple A’ district, excelling in Academics, Athletics and Arts.”
“This victory not only showcases the talent and dedication of our student-athletes, but also demonstrates the power of unity and community support.”
While women typically contend – often to their chagrin — that men who take care of themselves age gracefully, the harsh reality is that a man’s distinguished-looking outer shell is often nothing more than a façade.
Which is to say what is going on inside a middle-aged man may scream an altogether different story than the one women envy.
The villain is “Low T” (aka low testosterone), a menacing monster that surreptitiously zaps energy, destroys sexual health and attacks a few other things that collectively define vitality.
According to Dave Fraleigh, who, along with his wife Carolyne Guss, owns GameDay Men’s Health in Plano, “The male body typically reaches its peak at age 25.”
“After that,” he adds, “you start to steadily decline. Then, in your 30s you really begin to feel a(n appreciable) difference.”
“How depressing!,” I exclaim. Then again, that would explain everything. Biologically, I evidently morphed into a sinking ship once I sailed into my 30s.
“Not exactly,” Fraleigh says. “But your T levels do begin to drop about then.”
Actually, each person is different; but for most men, the drop is relatively miniscule until they reach their 40s. Then the drop is, on average, 1 to 2 percent per year
“Forty percent of men over 40 suffer from Low T,” Guss says. “But many just assume it’s an (irreversible) effect of aging.”
For many, the wake-up call is a workout that no longer yields results like it once did. These men stop developing lean muscle mass and start to pack on a few pounds. Then comes the first glimpse of a spare tire, and Low-T victims begin sporting -- seemingly overnight -- the dreaded “Dad Bod.”
For others, the red flag may simply be depleted energy and / or an ever-annoying brain fog. Irritability is also a symptom, as is low-grade depression.
And all too often, Low T can cause your sexual health to tap out, much to the vexation of your partner.
The good news is that facilities like GameDay offer state-of-the-art testosterone replacement therapies (TRTs) that typically produce dramatic results in only six weeks.
So why don’t more men nip Low T in the bud?
“Men will often not pull the trigger on getting tested,” Fraleigh says, “because either they don’t know there is a solution or are skeptical as to whether therapy can make much of a difference.”
“Let me put it this way,” Fraleigh clarifies. “I don’t remember how I felt at 25, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that today -- as a TRT patient -- I feel much more capable of tackling whatever life throws at me than I was a year ago.”
The key then is to simply take the first step and get tested. But how much does that cost, and how long does it take? At Gameday Men’s Health, there’s no charge.
And unlike a traditional doctor’s office, there are no long waits. In fact, the lobby is more like a man cave than a waiting room. Flat-screen TVs beam sports while comfy leather chairs pair with complimentary drinks and snacks to make some patients reluctant to go back to work.
Now, not all who get tested qualify for testosterone replacement therapy. Your T levels must first fall within a certain range … one that fluctuates with age.
“Bottom line, our goal is to get everyone at their optimal level so they are ultimately feeling awesome,” Fraleigh says.
But what does TRT (T replacement therapy) actually entail?
For most, it simply involves injections administered once or twice a week. And patients usually opt to visit the facility for injections; others self-inject at home after getting coached up a bit.
Alternatively, those averse to needles may go with low-invasive, surgically implanted pellets that last anywhere from two to five months.
And for those who don’t qualify for TRT, Gameday provides peptide therapies that stimulate the body to produce more growth hormone to help with rebuilding muscle mass. Some peptide therapies also boost cognition while leveling out mood swings.
Two peptides, semaglutide (aka Ozempic), and tirzepatide (aka Mounjaro) specifically target appetite and primarily facilitate weight management. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are both administered via injection.

Of course, no clinic that purports to treat men’s health holistically could go without specializing in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), and Gameday is no exception.
ED affects 60% of men at some point in their lives. And while it may link to mental and / or physical predictors, it most definitely and pathologically progresses with age.
GameDay’s natural (nonpharmaceutical) ED interventions utilize acoustic shockwave therapy or a “P-Shot (Priapus Shot) that involves injecting the patient with his own platelet-rich-plasma (PRP). Both procedures can improve a man’s sexual health.
“Yes, all of these different issues – from Low T to weight management to erectile dysfunction – can be treated by visiting a variety of doctors,” Guss admits.
“And we of course have a medical doctor that oversees our operation, but Dave and I went into this business because we did not see (many) services out there catering to all the unique needs of men. We wanted to be a kind of one-stop shop for men’s health care.”
In need of leveling up your game? The GameDay number for setting up an appointment to have your testosterone level checked for free is (972) 779-9706.
In the 19th century, German zoo curator Arnold Berthauld observed castrated roosters lose their aggression, crowing, and mating behavior, with their comb regressing. In 1849, his study confirmed that testicular secretions are essential for normal aggression. Berthauld also discovered that re-implantation of testes restored roosters' behavior and comb growth, laying the groundwork for the first testosterone replacement therapy, as per the National Institutes of Health and the Urological Sciences Research Foundation.

MASTERING THE ART OF SMOKED MEATS
ARTICLE BY GARY BURNSLight Meat (Pork and Chicken) pairs with Fruit Woods: Cherry Wood, Apple Wood, Pecan Wood Fruit Woods are used because they are less harsh on the lighter meats. Lighter meats cook faster and absorb more smoke. With mesquite, oak, or hickory woods, it can easily make the lighter meats taste bitter or sour.
Dark Meat (Beef) pairs with heavier wood: Mesquite, Oak, Hickory Wood Mesquite, oak, and hickory are best used on beef. Beef is denser and will not absorb as much smoke, so harsher woods will work without leaving the meat bitter or sour. These meats tend to have a savory flavor.

Plano resident Sophie Guerin plans to take the world by storm after graduating as valedictorian from the Einstein School. As a student, Sophie challenges herself with rigorous courses. At Einstein, she completed their college-level honors humanities sequence and is among those advanced enough to take Einstein’s classes in Mechanical Engineering and Thermodynamics. She also takes dual-enrollment courses at Collin County Community College. Sophie’s interest in programming, designing, and building robots led her to co-found Einstein's Engineering Club.
This spring, Sophie competed in the playoffs round of the First Tech Challenge World Championship with a team for which she was Mechanical Lead, Head Driver, and Team Captain. Sophie’s team also worked to raise money, provide a robotics kit, and mentor robotics students attending a school for the hard of hearing. Sophie’s passions extend to performance, as well. Last month, she played Liza Doolittle in Einstein’s production of My Fair Lady and has served as Assistant Director for Einstein’s theatre department for the past four years.
As a testament to her academic and artistic accomplishments, Sophie was inducted into the International Thespian Society in 2020. Her dedication to our city, to the Einstein School, and to her larger community is truly inspiring! When Sophie Guerin heads off to college this fall, she will continue to enrich her community through hard work, leadership, and her passion for making a difference!
