Finding Inspiration Through Style, Home, Creativity, and Community
September 2026 PUBLISHER
Kimberly Bailey | kimberly.bailey@citylifestyle.com E D I TO R
Kylie Strawn-Badger | kylie.strawn@citylifestyle.com
September always feels like a season of inspiration. While Arizona may not be trading sunshine for falling leaves just yet, this time of year naturally brings a fresh perspective. It's when many of us begin thinking about the spaces we live in, the clothes we wear, and the little details that help our homes and lives feel more like us. That's exactly what inspired this month's Style Issue. Style isn't about keeping up with trends; it's about creating something personal. It's finding a home that reflects your personality, discovering local businesses that spark creativity, or adding simple touches that make everyday life feel a little more beautiful. Whether your style is timeless, modern, bold, or somewhere in between, there's always room to be inspired. One of the things I appreciate most about Peoria is the incredible talent that surrounds us. This community is home to passionate designers, artists, boutique owners, home professionals, and entrepreneurs who are helping shape the way we live, gather, and create. Throughout this issue, you'll meet many of the people behind those businesses and discover ideas that can inspire your next project, refresh your home, or simply encourage you to try something new. September also marks the beginning of one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year. Before we know it, our calendars will be filled with fall festivals, holiday gatherings, and celebrations with family and friends. It's the perfect time to refresh your surroundings, support local businesses, and start preparing for the seasons ahead. Thank you for continuing to support Peoria City Lifestyle and the local businesses that make our community so special. Every issue is an opportunity to celebrate the people who bring creativity, passion, and innovation to Peoria, and we're grateful to share their stories with you. We hope this month's Style Issue leaves you feeling inspired, encourages you to shop local, and reminds you that great style isn't about perfection; it's about creating a life and a home that feels yours! Happy reading! K I M B E R LY B A I L E Y, P U B L I S H E R @ P E O R I AC I T Y L I F E S T Y L E

Some of life’s most meaningful moments are marked by jewelry. An engagement. An anniversary. A milestone birthday. A piece passed from one generation to the next. For Ryan Terhaar and his family, jewelry has always been about more than what is inside the display case. It is about the people, relationships and stories behind every piece, and the memories that jewelry can carry for generations. The story of Frederick Fisher Jewelers began in 1980. Ryan’s father worked for Frederick Fisher at Frederick Fisher Jewelers in Metrocenter, where he also met Ryan’s mother. When his father considered leaving the jewelry business, Fisher heard about it and made an offer that would shape the family’s future and create a legacy that continues more than four decades later. “Fred offered my parents a loan to move up to Flagstaff for the new mall in 1980 and open their own jewelry store,” Ryan shares. “Because of his generosity, my parents did it and used his name, Frederick Fisher Jewelers, for their store in Flagstaff.” What began with one person believing in another grew into a family business built around enduring values. “Trust, customer service and quality are the three values that have set us apart,” Ryan says. “Those remain at the top to this day, and you’ll feel that when you walk into our store.” After decades of serving Flagstaff, the Terhaar family saw an opportunity to bring that experience to the Northwest Valley. Ryan and his wife have two daughters who are athletes, so the family frequently traveled to Phoenix for sporting events. Eventually, those visits sparked an idea. CONTINUED >

“We love it down here, and my wife and I looked at each other and thought, ‘Let’s move to the Northwest Valley and open another store,’” Ryan says. Their goal was to create a place where luxury felt approachable and rooted in the family values that had defined Frederick Fisher Jewelers for decades. “Customers are going to get the luxury experience with top-end jewelry and service, but still get that hometown, local jeweler experience,” he explains. “We never want it to feel stuffy.” Jewelry is often connected to life’s biggest moments, and Ryan has witnessed countless celebrations throughout his career. One remains particularly special. A couple in their late 80s came into the store after both had lost their spouses following long marriages. They had found love again and visited Frederick Fisher Jewelers to select an engagement ring. “The close-to-90-year-old gentleman got down on one knee right there in our store and proposed,” Ryan recalls. The moment captures what the business is about: jewelry becoming part of someone’s story and celebrating the milestones that matter most. Today, Frederick Fisher Jewelers is a full-service destination offering diamond engagement rings, exquisite colored gemstones, appraisals, complimentary jewelry cleaning, gift wrapping, watch batteries and jewelry repairs. They can even offer advice for the

perfect proposal, making the experience personal from the moment a customer walks through the door. For those searching for something extraordinary, Ryan has a particular appreciation for colored diamonds. “Diamonds come in basically every color of the rainbow,” he says. While fancy yellow diamonds remain among the most recognizable, pink diamonds are a personal favorite. “Pink is probably one of the most expensive diamond colors, but when you see it in person or on the hand, it’s worth every penny.” Their rarity also makes pink diamonds compelling investment pieces. For a traditional choice, Ryan points to the round white diamond as one of the most timeless cuts. With colored diamonds, he recommends oval, radiant and emerald cuts. “The solitaire style diamond ring is the most timeless because there are so many variations, yet it still shows off the main diamond without taking away from it,” Ryan says. Beyond diamonds, sapphire remains a favorite for clients seeking elegance and versatility. Ryan loves classic designs featuring a blue sapphire center stone flanked by diamonds or surrounded by a halo of white diamonds. Thanks to sapphire’s durability, it works beautifully across rings, bracelets and earrings.
“A beautiful sapphire and diamond right-hand ring is such an elegant piece of jewelry to surprise someone with for their birthday,” he says. Although Frederick Fisher Jewelers offers exceptional luxury pieces, Ryan emphasizes that the experience is never determined by budget. “If someone comes into our store with a budget of $100 or $10,000, they deserve the same level of expertise and customer service,” he says. “We like to guide our customers without being pushy and help them find that perfect piece.” For anyone building a timeless jewelry collection, Ryan recommends diamond stud earrings, a diamond necklace, a diamond tennis bracelet and a pearl necklace. “These are pieces that can be worn with yoga pants or that perfect black dress,” he says. Ultimately, success at Frederick Fisher Jewelers is measured by seeing families return generation after generation. “In Arizona, we’ve sold engagement rings, anniversary gifts and birthday gifts to numerous generations of the same family,” Ryan says. Even his daughters can sometimes be found in the store, saying hello and helping clients. “That’s the experience I want people to walk away with: family, trust, customer service and a smile,” Ryan says. “And, of course, an amazing piece of jewelry they’re proud of and can’t wait to give to someone they love.”

Elevating Every View With Style Discover how thoughtful window treatments can transform your entire home. In a beautifully designed home, every detail contributes to the way a space looks, feels and functions. From thoughtfully chosen furnishings to layers of texture and natural light, the most successful interiors balance beauty with everyday living. At Elite Shutters & Blinds, that philosophy begins at the windows. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Elite Shutters & Blinds has grown from a one-person operation into a company with eight stores and 42 employees serving homeowners across the Valley. Through that growth, the foundation has remained remarkably consistent: elite customer service, honesty and integrity, trust, and a commitment to exceeding expectations. Those values shape an experience that extends well beyond selecting a product. The team takes time to understand each client's style, needs and vision, guiding them from the initial consultation through professional installation. Today's homeowners are increasingly looking for window treatments that feel timeless while making everyday life more comfortable. Natural woven shades bring warmth and texture, while white composite shutters remain a favorite for their classic appearance and

durability. Neutral roller shades in soft whites, linens and warm grays are also replacing traditional blinds in many homes, particularly when paired with motorization. Layering has become another way homeowners are creating a more elevated, designer-inspired aesthetic. Combining woven or roller shades with drapery adds depth, softness and visual interest while allowing greater control over privacy and natural light. "Window treatments are often one of the first design elements people notice and can make a space feel brighter, larger, warmer or more inviting," the Elite Shutters & Blinds team shares. Yet choosing the right treatment requires considering more than appearance. One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is overlooking how a room actually functions. Privacy, light control, durability and daily use should all influence the final selection.
Because every room serves a different purpose, Elite approaches each space individually. Bedrooms may require greater privacy and light control, while living spaces often benefit from maximizing natural light and creating a welcoming atmosphere. Coordinating colors, materials and textures throughout the home then creates a sense of continuity. For homeowners looking to refresh their interiors without committing to a complete renovation, updating window treatments can also have an immediate impact. "New shutters, roller shades or drapery can completely transform a room, making it feel brighter, more modern and more inviting."
Some of the team's favorite projects are those where clients give them the creative freedom to mix products and introduce layers of texture. Seeing a homeowner's reaction when the finished treatments transform an entire room remains one of the most rewarding parts of the process. After two decades, Elite Shutters & Blinds continues to pair industry expertise with the personal approach of a family-owned local business. When investing in custom window treatments, the team encourages homeowners to look beyond the product itself and choose a company with a proven reputation, trusted recommendations and ongoing support. Because in a thoughtfully designed home, the right finishing touches aren't simply decorative. They shape how the home is experienced every day.

Leading With Intention In an industry defined by structure, precision and transformation, Emily Ganem has built a leadership philosophy around something less tangible but equally powerful: people. As president of Ganem Companies, Emily moves through a world that requires confidence, adaptability and an eye for detail. Her days can take her from executive meetings to active job sites, restaurant photoshoots and evening events. Yet whether she is making a business decision, developing a team member or choosing what to wear, one principle remains constant: intention.
18

“I've never felt like I needed to become someone else to earn a seat at the table,” she says. “I lead differently, and I've learned that's actually one of my greatest strengths.” Empathy and intuition are central to that style, but so are accountability and conviction. Emily is comfortable challenging an idea, asking difficult questions and speaking up when she sees a better path forward. “I believe you can be both strong and approachable,” she says, “and that's the kind of leader I've always strived to be.” Her confidence extends beyond the boardroom and into her personal style. Emily describes her wardrobe much the way she approaches leadership: elevated, intentional and distinctly her own. CONTINUED >
“My leadership style is rooted in discernment, collaboration and empowering others to do their best work,” Emily says. “I don't think great leaders are the ones with all the answers. They're the ones who ask the right questions, understand people and help teams arrive at the best solution together.” Early in her career, Emily viewed leadership largely through the lens of execution: work hard, deliver results and prove yourself. Experience eventually shifted her understanding of where a leader can make the greatest impact. “My role today is less about directing every decision and more about creating clarity, building trust and helping others become confident decision makers themselves,” she says. That people-first approach has also helped define Emily's place within construction, an industry traditionally dominated by men. Rather than conforming to an expected image of leadership, she has found strength in embracing her own.

“CONFIDENCE ISN'T SOMETHING YOU WAIT TO FEEL BEFORE TAKING THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY. IT'S BUILT ONE DECISION, ONE CONVERSATION AND ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME. STAY CURIOUS, TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS AND HAVE THE CONVICTION TO LEAD IN A WAY THAT FEELS AUTHENTIC TO YOU.”
20
LOCA LLY SOU R CE D | P ROF E SSION AL SE RVICE S
Neutrals and timeless staples create the foundation, but there is always room for personality through an unexpected silhouette, beautifully tailored blazer or statement accessory. “I don't think you have to dress like everyone else to be taken seriously,” Emily says. “Fashion is something I genuinely enjoy, and I think confidence comes from wearing what feels authentic to you.” Versatility is essential. A typical day may include a business meeting, job-site visit, restaurant photoshoot and happy hour with her husband. Emily mixes investment pieces with accessible finds, pairing designer heels with an Amazon dress or choosing a perfectly tailored Aritzia suit. Other days call for jeans, boots and a ball cap. She even keeps a dress and heels in her car for whatever the day might bring. “I don't really separate my wardrobe into ‘work clothes’ and ‘everything else,’” she says. “I choose pieces that feel like me and can transition with my schedule.” That appreciation for thoughtful details carries into Ganem Companies' work across construction and hospitality. To Emily, the two industries are more closely connected than they may initially appear. “At their core, both are about creating experiences for people,” she explains. The way natural light enters a room, how a space functions or how a guest feels when entering a restaurant can all shape an experience. Often, it is the smallest details that leave the most lasting impression. That same philosophy influences the culture she creates as a leader. “The environment you create for your team matters just as much as the work itself,” Emily says. “When people feel supported, challenged and valued, they do their best work.” Her advice to women building careers of their own is equally centered on authenticity.
“Don't spend your career trying to lead like someone else,” she says. “Your greatest strength will always be your own perspective.” Confidence, she believes, isn't something that suddenly arrives with a certain position. It develops through experience, one difficult conversation, bold decision and unfamiliar challenge at a time. “Stay curious, trust your instincts and have the conviction to lead in a way that feels authentic to you,” Emily says. For Emily, that authenticity has created a style of leadership that is polished without being rigid, confident without losing warmth and ambitious without losing sight of people. “The most rewarding part of leadership isn't what you accomplish yourself,” she says. “It's watching someone else realize they're capable of more than they thought possible. That's when you know you've made a lasting impact.” And perhaps that is Emily Ganem's most enduring definition of leadership: not simply creating something remarkable, but creating the environment in which others can become remarkable, too.

DESIGNED WITH MEANING
Robyn Halperin shares how meaningful pieces, thoughtful layers, and personal stories create truly timeless homes. ARTICLE BY KYLIE STRAWN-BADGER PHOTOGRAPHY BY NICHOLE LYNN PHOTOGRAPHY
22
D E C OR T R E N D S | HO M E + D E SIGN
Luxury isn't measured by how quickly a home comes together; it's revealed over time. The most memorable interiors aren’t built in a weekend. Instead, they're thoughtfully layered with meaningful pieces that reflect the people who live there, creating spaces that feel deeply personal and impossible to replicate.
“I've always believed that a home should tell a story.” For Robyn Halperin, owner of Nest in the Desert Studio, that philosophy has guided her career. After many successful years as the founder and former owner of Robyn’s Nest, she realized she wasn’t ready to step away from the work that had always inspired her. "I realized how much I missed helping people create homes they truly loved," Robyn says. "Design has always been my passion, and I knew I wasn't finished." That passion inspired the opening of Nest in the Desert in Tucson, followed by Nest in the Desert Studio in the West Valley. From the beginning, Robyn envisioned more than a home decor boutique. "I've always believed that a home should tell a story," she says. "The most memorable homes evolve over time. They're layered with pieces that reflect the people who live there
and create a feeling you simply can't replicate." That belief is reflected throughout the studio, where every item is chosen with intention to help homeowners create spaces that feel collected rather than copied. Rather than relying on catalogs or passing trends, Robyn travels extensively to source distinctive furnishings, artwork, and accessories clients won't find everywhere else. Every piece is selected for its authenticity, character, and ability to evoke emotion. Her buying process starts with one simple question: "Does this piece make me feel something?" If the answer is yes, she then considers authenticity, quality, scale, texture, and versatility. "The best pieces become part of your everyday living while still feeling special every time you walk into the room," she says. CONTINUED >

23
That philosophy reflects a larger shift in today's design world. Homeowners are moving away from perfectly staged interiors in favor of homes that feel warmer, more collected, and more personal. Rich wood tones, handcrafted furnishings, natural stone, layered textures, vintage accents, and meaningful collections have replaced the stark minimalism that dominated for years. "The trends with lasting power are the ones rooted in authenticity," Robyn explains. "Those never go out of style because they create homes that feel genuine rather than trendy." Fortunately, creating that feeling doesn't require a complete redesign. "Sometimes it isn’t about buying more, it’s about making thoughtful choices," she says. Rearranging furniture, adding texture, updating lighting, or introducing a statement piece can dramatically change a room. She also encourages homeowners to stop worrying about perfectly matching finishes. "Don't focus on matching; focus on balance," she says. "The most interesting rooms combine smooth with rough, old with new, light with dark, and polished with organic." Layering textures and materials creates warmth, depth, and personality. For Robyn, the most luxurious homes are also the most personal. She encourages clients to display artwork they love, travel treasures, family heirlooms, meaningful books, and collected objects that tell their story. “The goal isn’t to fill every shelf,” she says. “It’s to surround yourself with pieces that have meaning. That’s what makes a home impossible to duplicate.” She also reminds clients that beautiful homes aren't finished overnight. “Great design comes from layering thoughtfully and allowing your home to grow with you,” Robyn says. Many of her clients have worked with her for years, gradually adding meaningful pieces that reflect each new chapter of their lives. Living in Arizona has also shaped her design perspective. "The desert teaches you that simplicity can still have incredible richness," she says, explaining that the landscape's colors and textures inspire collections that add warmth and character. When clients visit Nest in the Desert Studio, Robyn hopes they leave with more than a beautiful purchase. "I want customers to feel inspired the moment they walk through the door, not overwhelmed," she says. "When someone leaves with a piece they truly love, they've taken home something that becomes part of their story."
24
D E C OR T R E N D S | HO M E + D E SIGN
For Robyn, that’s the true meaning of luxury. It isn’t about chasing trends or furnishing a home overnight. It’s about creating spaces that evolve naturally, reflect the people who live there, and tell a story that’s uniquely their own. As she puts it, "The most beautiful homes aren't created in a single shopping trip; they evolve with the people who live there."

Wear Colors That Truly
LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.
KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.
CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.
THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cool-toned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.
BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!
PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

WHERE STYLE MEETS E V E RY DAY F U NC T ION ARIZONA APPLIANCE & HOME ELEVATES KITCHENS THROUGH THOUGHTFUL LUXURY DESIGN.

In a thoughtfully designed home, the kitchen is more than a place to prepare meals. It is where mornings begin, guests naturally gather and everyday routines become part of the rhythm of the home. Increasingly, appliances are playing an important role in that design story, blending sophisticated performance with finishes and details that deserve to be seen. For Arizona Appliance & Home, helping homeowners create spaces that are both beautiful and functional begins with understanding how they actually live. Serving Arizona since 1944, the locally rooted company offers an
extensive selection of kitchen, laundry and outdoor appliances, including premium and luxury options designed for a wide range of lifestyles and aesthetics. Today’s kitchens offer more opportunities for personalization than ever before. A professional-style range can become the centerpiece of the room, while panel-ready refrigeration can nearly disappear into surrounding cabinetry. Brass details add warmth and sophistication, stainless steel brings a timeless quality, and unexpected colors can transform an appliance into a statement piece. The key is making those decisions early. When planning a remodel or new build, appliances should be considered alongside cabinetry, countertops and the overall layout rather than treated as a finishing touch. Dimensions, ventilation requirements, door swings and installation specifications can all influence the design. Selecting appliances early helps create a more seamless finished space and can prevent costly changes later. Homeowners should also think beyond appearance and consider how they use their kitchen every day. Someone who loves to cook may value a professional-style range, multiple ovens or specialized cooking features. Frequent entertainers may benefit from beverage refrigeration, additional ice capacity or thoughtfully planned outdoor appliances. For busy families, storage, durability and ease of use may rise to the top of the list. Another important consideration is resisting the urge to choose features simply because they are trending. The most luxurious kitchens aren't necessarily the ones with the most technology. They're the ones where every detail feels intentional. Choosing appliances that complement your routines can make a kitchen feel effortlessly functional for years to come.
Seeing those options in person can make the selection process significantly easier. Arizona Appliance & Home's Glendale showroom, located at 8110 W. Union Hills Drive, Suite 250, gives homeowners, designers and builders the opportunity to experience appliances beyond a photograph or specification sheet. Visitors can explore different configurations, compare finishes, open doors and drawers, examine hardware and see how various appliance styles interact with cabinetry, countertops and other design elements. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance before making an investment that will become part of the home for years. Perhaps the best advice when selecting appliances is simple: consider the entire room rather than one product at a time. Finishes don't have to match perfectly, and beautiful kitchens often combine materials, metals and textures. What matters is that each choice feels connected to the larger vision. Because true luxury isn't simply about having beautiful things. It's about creating a home where beauty and function work together, making everyday life feel just a little more extraordinary.
