LIFESTYLE LETTER

Here's to a healthy new year!

January 2026 PUBLISHER

Kimberly Bailey | kimberly.bailey@citylifestyle.com P U B L I CAT I O N D I R E C TO R

Jessica Witzke | jessica.witzke@citylifestyle.com

There’s something special about January. It arrives quietly after the rush of the holidays, giving us a moment to breathe, reset, and look ahead with a little more clarity than we had the month before. Even if the calendar change doesn’t magically transform our routines, it does offer us an invitation, one that feels hopeful, energizing, and full of possibility. That sense of renewal is exactly why January is the perfect time for our annual Health and Wellness Issue. This month, we’re celebrating the many ways our community is choosing to invest in themselves while redefining what wellness truly looks like. It’s no longer just about resolutions or strict checklists. It’s about intention. It’s about building habits that feel sustainable. And most importantly, it’s about recognizing that taking care of ourselves makes everything else in life feel a little more manageable. Whether you’re leaning into a new fitness routine, prioritizing mental health, exploring preventative care, or simply looking to feel a little more balanced in 2026, we hope this issue meets you right where you are. There is no perfect place to begin. There is only the decision to begin at all. As we enter a brand-new year, my wish for you is simple: that you find moments of growth, peace, and progress, both big and small. And that you continue to feel supported by the incredible community we’re so grateful to serve. Here’s to a fresh start, a renewed mindset, and a year filled with possibilities!

L i v i n g I n c l u s i ve l y HOW ONE MOTHER SPARKED A NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR ADULTS WITH AUTISM

ARTICLE BY GRETCHEN PAHIA PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHAZ ROMERO PHOTOGRAPHY

12

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | HEALT H + WE LLN E SS

When Denise Resnik talks about home, she isn't referring only to a physical address. She's talking about belonging, independence, and the right to a joyful, purposeful adult life, regardless of your neurotype. As founder and president/CEO of First Place AZ, co-founder of Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), longtime PR agency owner, and above all, Matthew's mom, Resnik has spent more than three decades reshaping the way communities think about adults with autism and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities. A proud native Phoenician, Resnik grew up in the Valley and later graduated from Arizona State University, landing her first job at Del E. Webb Corporation. She and her husband, Rob, have been married for 42 years and are parents to two children and grandparents to two little ones. But it was their son Matt’s autism diagnosis at age 2 in 1993 that shifted the route of her life's work. "When we were told to institutionalize our son, we committed ourselves to finding a better way," Resnik says. "We couldn't change historically poor outcomes for adults with autism and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities from within the system, so we started with the end in mind, asking others to dream with us and create a new reality." In 1997, she co-founded SARRC, establishing one of the country's most respected autism research and outreach organizations. As SARRC evolved, one truth became increasingly apparent to Resnik: Housing and community development for adults with autism required its own dedicated entity with a different risk tolerance. So, in 2012, she created First Place AZ. First Place–Phoenix is the organization's flagship property, opening its doors in 2018 after years of fundraising and planning. PBS NewsHour, which documented the journey, named Phoenix "the most autismfriendly city in the world." Today, the 81,000-squarefoot midtown community is home to more than 50

adults with autism, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. It offers support services, structured community life, employment, and health and wellness programs, all within a vibrant urban neighborhood filled with shopping, dining, and transit options. “Progress demands dedication from each one of us, including problem solvers, trusted collaborators, people with lived experience, and the remarkable philanthropists and humanitarians who provide us with an opportunity to succeed,” affirms Resnik. But First Place AZ is far more than a property, it’s a catalyst for a national movement. Through the First Place Global Leadership Institute, the organization serves as a research and development engine, think tank, and training hub that develops best practices for housing, employment, and healthcare for adults with autism and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Improving quality of life has long been Resnik's passion, but healthcare is perhaps the sector with the biggest challenges for adults with autism. With an estimated 100,000 adults with autism and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities in Arizona alone, most still don't have informed, preventive medical care. First Place AZ has partnered with Creighton University, ASU, University of Arizona and others to address this. “We seek to be a trusted resource that brings together healthcare leaders, researchers, policymakers, and those with lived experience to advance a model of adult developmental medicine,” she says. One significant development is MED 459, Minding the Gap, an elective for fourth-year medical students at Creighton University that provides hands-on training in the care of autism and developmental disabilities. Another project underway is the Adult Developmental Medical Clinic Collective (ADMCC), a forward-looking model with the aim of developing a coordinated system of adult care. It is something parallel to developmental pediatrics but doesn't exist yet for adults. CONTINUED >

“When the right thing to do becomes the expected, easy, and most rewarding, a true marketplace of options will be the reality, and that requires all of us” JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / P E O R I A

13

The impact on Arizona families has been profound. More than 250 unique individuals have called First Place–Phoenix or one of the nonprofit’s two multi-generational properties home since doors opened. Also, more than 100 young adults have participated in the First Place Transition Academy, a two-year program teaching independent living and career-readiness skills in collaboration with SARRC. Long-term studies show its graduates are five and a half times more likely to live independently. And the momentum keeps building. “Communities like First Place–Phoenix are sprouting up across the country, using the know-how, principles, and templates we’ve developed,” Resnik notes. “We’re challenging communities and their philanthropic, industry, and policy leaders to reimagine how to respond to this growing and chronically underserved market segment.” So how can others get involved? Resnik says by seeing it firsthand. “Join us for a property tour, webinar, or annual symposium,” she invites. “Learn about our work through First Place Global and opportunities to be involved in our education, employment, and outreach initiatives.”

“We seek to be a trusted resource that brings together healthcare leaders, researchers, policymakers, and those with lived experience to advance a model of adult developmental medicine.” She also encourages community members, particularly those in real estate and development, to use the language of inclusion. “Do not use the ‘f’ word unless it refers to a ‘first’ or ‘forever’ place. We are not building ‘facilities.’ We are creating homes and inclusive communities.” Most of all, she said, people need to understand that building a more inclusive Arizona takes a village. "When the right thing to do becomes the expected, easy, and most rewarding, a true marketplace of options will be the reality, and that requires all of us." From a mother's determination to a nationwide movement, Resnik's work continues to redefine what adulthood can be for people with autism, Down syndrome and other disabilities. But as she looks to what is ahead, her vision is resolute: "Each of us has a role to play."

L I V I N G JOY F U L LY CENTERED

How One Entrepreneur is Inspiring a Shift Toward Connection, Balance & Well-Being ARTICLE BY GRETCHEN PAHIA PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEATHER RAUSCH

16

LOCA L’S CH OICE | HEALT H + WE LLN E SS

As soon as you meet Heather Rausch, you can feel the spark she brings into every room. As the Founder & CEO of Foxfire Events and the Creator of Joyfully Centered, Heather has made it her mission to connect with people and organizations to elevate awareness, shift perspective, and empower possibilities. Though her work spans the country and reaches audiences around the globe, she proudly calls Arizona's northwest valley home.

“Joyfully Centered is about consciously minding our perspective and being accountable for how we show up in the world.” As a long-time community leader, Rausch thrives on infusing energy while empowering people. When she's not creating programs, speaking, consulting or empowering leaders, you can find her enjoying live events with family and friends, researching travel, or diving into neuroscience. Her favorite way to joyfully center is to spend time near water with a great book or listening to music. Founded in 2010, Foxfire Events has grown into a powerhouse for meaningful engagements, and impactful experiences. The company creates dynamic public events, and customized corporate programs designed to spark creativity, inspire conversation, and bring people together in fresh and meaningful ways. In 2024, Rausch expanded the organization’s reach by launching Joyfully Centered, a collective grounded in mindfulness, communication, and connection. Rausch’s passion for uniting people is at the heart of everything she does, often saying, “magical

things happen when we unite.” Over the years, she’s surrounded herself with incredible individuals and thought leaders. Observing increasing global divide and negativity, she felt called to create something that brought us back to respectful conversation, accountability, kindness, teamwork, and joy. “Joyfully Centered is about consciously minding our perspective and being accountable for how we show up in the world,” Rausch shares. “When we intentionally align our thoughts, actions, and desired outcomes, we create success, and joy, despite what’s happening around us.” Joyfully Centered is a program-turned-global collective that serves as a go-to hub for inspiration, perspective, personal growth, well-being, plus organizational growth and resilience. The collective offers workshops, retreats, perspective sessions, and live and virtual experiences designed to strengthen mindset, communication, self-awareness, and advancement. CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / P E O R I A

17

The magic happens, Rausch says, when people come together with intention. Walls come down, energy shifts, and participants leave with not just inspiration—but actionable accountability that carries into their families, communities, and workplaces. Rausch shares, “we’ve found that with fun and creative programming, people truly revel in the opportunity to create joy and take that joy forward. That’s powerful to experience.” Today, Rausch channels that learning into programs and conversations that help others do the same. Through interviews, perspective sessions, and Joyfully Centered resources, Heather supports individuals in strengthening their inner world so they can approach life with balance and perspective. “What we focus on, we get more of and with knowledge plus action, comes power,” she emphasizes. Want to step into the new year feeling grounded and intentional? Here are Rausch’s tips: 1. Breathe It may sound simple, but many of us don't do it with intention. Put a hand on your heart, quite the mind, take a few deep breaths feeling the release of tension as you exhale. This simple exercise helps to restore balance. Do it several times throughout the day, especially when feeling stressed. 2. Reflect Before striving to the next achievement, settle past emotions. What worked or didn’t last year? If feeling unsettled, process any ill feelings. Take the time to clear up anything needed to create advancement. Growth comes when we keep the wisdom and let go of the weight. 3. Dream. Decide. DO!Allow yourself time to dream about what you really want this year. Once you have identified a goal, map out actionable steps and do them. If you need support - we all do - seek it! All in All, Rausch is building more than events, she is building community, clarity, confidence, and joy. And as we step into a new year, her message is the reminder we all need: our perspective directly influences our outcomes and joy, and we create it!

ARTICLE BY GRETCHEN PAHIA PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHAZ ROMERO PHOTOGRAPHY

Dr. Liz Cruz shares how rethinking digestive wellness, addressing root causes, and returning to foundational habits can transform long-term health in a system that’s no longer keeping up.

Healing Starts Here For over two decades, Dr. Liz Cruz has dedicated her career to understanding the delicate relationship between digestive health and overall wellness. As a board-certified gastroenterologist in the valley, she has been practicing for more than 20 years, with the early part of her career spent doing exactly what she trained to do: performing colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, running diagnostic tests, and prescribing medications meant to treat common digestive complaints from gas and bloating to constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux.

20

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

Over time, their work grew into a full ecosystem of resources including a long-running podcast with more than 500 episodes, multiple books, an online home-study program, and their own line of US-manufactured supplements. After nearly 20 years in medical practice, Dr. Cruz made the difficult but purposeful decision to close her gastroenterology office in April 2025 to focus entirely on the wellness business that was helping people finally get well. “I wanted to be a doctor to help people get well and that business is doing just that,” she says. Her long-term vision is bold, “My goal is to become a household name across the U.S. and eventually around the world. I want to set a new standard of care where we can get people off their prescription and over-the-counter medicines, and start investing in products and services that help the body work as it was intended to work.” CONTINUED >

But something didn't add up shares Dr. Cruz. "I was seeing young people coming in with the same symptoms I was used to seeing in older patients.” Even after extensive testing available through traditional medicine, the root cause of their discomfort often remained unknown. "I'm not the kind of doctor to tell my patients I don't know what to do," she says. "I didn't like telling a 20-year-old they had to be on medication for the rest of their life." That discomfort proved to be a turning point. She approached her wife, Tina, who managed the practice, and said something had to change. Together, they began a two-year journey into what Dr. Cruz describes as "what my medical degree did not teach me about how the body truly works and what it needs to heal itself." Tina became so inspired she returned to school after getting her marketing degree, and completed a certification in holistic nutrition. This new understanding became the core of a wellness movement. In 2010, they started a digestive wellness program that eventually grew into an international business, serving thousands of patients and clients all around the world.

JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / P E O R I A

21

Even though her focus has expanded, Dr. Cruz remains deeply connected to her original specialty. "I'm so glad I decided to do GI," she says. "The gut is the second brain, and when it's not functioning properly, it can throw off the whole body physically and mentally." She still has a strong passion for colon cancer awareness and emphasizes that colonoscopy remains the gold standard for lifesaving prevention. When asked to define healthy living in 2026, Dr. Cruz makes it clear that the original ideas haven't changed, it’s only access to reliable medical care that has shifted. A shortage of new doctors entering the field, plus declining insurance reimbursements and skyrocketing insurance premiums, means people often find it challenging to find physicians who can take the time to listen and truly guide them. "It's more important now than ever that we take our health into our own hands," she says. She feels most people know the definition of living healthy, eating real food, drinking water, exercising, getting rest, managing stress, and seeing your doctor regularly for checkups. However, the Standard American Diet, such as eating processed foods and fast foods, drinking coffee and energy drinks, not exercising, not getting good rest, letting stress rule their life, all get in the way of moving forward. "Our mindsets are broken, and our medical system is broken," she says. "If you truly want to live healthy in 2026, we all must take a long hard look at our habits and get back to the basics." Dr. Cruz provides five clear steps anyone can take to start improving their health: • Drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily, with electrolytes for clean hydration. • Incorporate more liquid foods like soups and smoothies to assist you with detoxing after holiday indulgences. • Eat greens daily, striving for 2–3 servings • Exercise 3–4 times a week, enough to break a sweat; and if you're starting from zero, start with stretching and build from there. • Be in bed by 10 p.m. most nights. The more rest we get, the harder our body can work to keep us healthy. She emphasizes that all habit changes should be done gradually. “Being healthy is a journey and lifestyle, not a destination,” she says.

22

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

Digestive issues are super common this time of year, she reassures. Stress, rich foods, and disrupted routines can really throw the gut into chaos. Her go-to tools for getting back on track are simple: a digestive enzyme with meals and a probiotic taken twice daily on an empty stomach. These help break down food effectively and strengthen your gut microbiome to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Dr. Cruz offers a free 30-minute wellness consultation by phone, available through her website at www.drlizcruz.com. She can also be reached by phone at 602-829-5656. Many of the items she listed above like electrolytes, digestive enzymes, probiotics, greens, detox, and a cookbook for healthy soup and smoothie recipes can also be found on her website. On a separate note, she is also seeking active business partners to help expand her mission. She strongly feels that, with the digestive health industry currently valued at $260 billion, the time is just right to shift global health from disease management to true prevention.

For the Beef: • 2 lbs flank steak, thinly sliced • 1/4 cup cornstarch • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying) • For Garnish: • 4 green onions, sliced • Sesame seeds (optional) For the Sauce: • 1/2 cup soy sauce (preferably low sodium) • 1/4 cup water • 1/4 cup brown sugar • 3 cloves garlic, minced • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

• 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions

1. Prepare the Beef: Place the sliced flank steak in a bowl and toss it with the cornstarch, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the beef until it is crispy and brown on the outside, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove from skillet. 2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper

flakes. In the same skillet you fried the beef, add a little more oil, if needed, and sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant (about 30 seconds). Pour in the sauce mixture and bring it to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens. 3. Combine the Beef and Sauce: Return the fried beef to the skillet with the sauce. Stir to coat the beef evenly. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and further coat the beef. Serve & Garnish: Serve the Mongolian Beef over steamed white rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

PEORIA’S IM=X® STUDIO IS REDEFINING STRENGTH WITH SMARTER MOVEMENT, DEEPER SUPPORT, AND REAL EVERYDAY RESULTS.

ARTICLE BY KYLIE STRAWN-BADGER PHOTOGRAPHY BY NICHOLE ECKMAN

Opening IM=X® Pilates Peoria wasn’t just a business decision for owner and certified instructor Tiffany Stavrianos; it was a calling. She wanted a place where people could show up precisely as they are, move without judgment, and walk out feeling stronger in every part of their lives. Peoria felt like the perfect home for that vision. With its appreciation for health, family, and connection, the community aligned with everything she hoped to build. “I wanted a studio where people feel welcome, supported, and capable from day one,” she shares. “Strength should feel accessible, not intimidating.” IM=X® Pilates, short for Integrated Movement Xercize, is rooted in Pilates but expanded with modern exercise science. Traditional Pilates emphasizes lengthening and alignment; IM=X® adds strength training, endurance conditioning, and functional movement for a more athletic, results-driven experience. Tiffany describes it as Pilates evolved, designed for everyday people who want strength, mobility, and energy that support real life. As she explains, “IM=X® blends everything your body needs, stability, strength, mobility, cardio, into one efficient workout.” The Xercizer Reformer itself is larger and stronger than standard machines, allowing a broader range of body types and fitness levels to feel supported and safe. Developed decades after the original Pilates Method, IM=X® incorporates updated research, biomechanics, and real-world movement patterns. Clients often feel results quickly, noticing better posture, stronger core engagement, reduced pain, and increased day-to-day function. “The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is progress you can feel in your everyday life,” Tiffany says. For many, the method becomes the first workout that truly makes sense for their lifestyle. This sustainable approach is especially appealing for people setting January goals. Rather than relying on pressure or unrealistic expectations, IM=X® focuses on building strength and confidence from the inside out. The studio offers a wide variety of formats, including Reformer, Tower, Mat, Barre, Yoga, and hybrid strength sessions, so clients stay engaged and never fall into monotony. That mix keeps workouts feeling fun, challenging, and fresh. CONTINUED >

When asked who the ideal IM=X® client is, Tiffany’s answer is simple: anyone who wants to feel better in their body. They work with beginners, return-to-fitness clients, athletes craving cross-training, and individuals recovering from injury who need a powerful but low-impact option. IM=X® is known to improve core strength, mobility, posture, muscle tone, and functional endurance while offering safe modifications for pain or physical limitations. Every new member begins with a FREE Intro Session, one of the studio’s most appreciated offerings. Tiffany personally guides small groups through the equipment, foundational exercises, and any individualized considerations. It’s an opportunity to ask questions, understand the method, and feel at ease before joining a group class. “No one should feel lost or intimidated,” she says. Most clients leave feeling surprised by how comfortable and supported they felt from the start. The community that has blossomed inside the studio is something Tiffany never anticipated so early on. Founding members brought warmth, consistency, and genuine encouragement, creating a welcoming tone for every new client who walks through the door. Over time, that energy has only deepened. Members cheer each other on, share progress, recommend favorite classes, and often stay after sessions to connect. What began as a fitness studio has become a place where people feel rooted, a meaningful extension of their daily routine. Clients are often surprised by how quickly everyday tasks become easier, lifting kids, standing longer at work, carrying

groceries, or moving without stiffness. One member even joked that IM=X® helped her win an otherwise impossible game of Twister. These moments capture something essential about the method: its benefits show up in real life, not just in the studio. As Tiffany says, “People think they’re coming for a workout. What they don’t expect is to feel so empowered.” The instructors at IM=X® Peoria are a considerable part of that experience. Each team member completes extensive IM=X® certification through Master Trainers, and many bring additional backgrounds in yoga, barre, strength training, and rehabilitation-based movement. This allows them to offer expert modifications and individualized attention while maintaining an upbeat, seamless class environment. As the studio celebrates five incredible months, anticipation is building for their Grand Opening Weekend on January 10th. Tiffany sees this milestone as not just a celebration of the business, but of the community that has shaped it. It’s an opportunity to recognize the people who believed in the studio from day one and welcome the many new members who will join in the years ahead. Follow their social channels for updates, special offers, workshops, and connection-focused events throughout the weekend and beyond. IM=X® Pilates Peoria is located at 8976 W Union Hills, Suite 106, Peoria, AZ 85382 (We are on the corner of 91st and Union Hills). Follow them on Instagram and Facebook at @imxpilatespeoria.

A C OMMUNI T Y OF C A R E INSIDE BENEVILLA’S 44-YEAR LEGACY OF SUPPORT

ARTICLE BY GRETCHEN PAHIA PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHAZ ROMERO PHOTOGRAPHY

30

G IV IN G BAC K | WEL L NESS

Benevilla has been a part of the West Valley for more than 44 years, founded on the idea that supportive neighbors foster compassionate communities. What started out as a community-based initiative to support senior citizens and caregivers has developed into a reputable non-profit that provides a wide range of services intended to improve lives at every stage. Today, services provided by Benevilla include those for older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and families, all wrapped around one simple yet powerful mission: to enrich lives with compassion, dignity, and connection.

According to President and CEO, Joanne Byers, community has always been the heart of the organization. “At its core, Benevilla is togetherness. We were built by neighbors helping neighbors, and that spirit still guides us today. Everyone who comes to us, older adults, caregivers, families, should feel seen, supported, and valued.” That sense of belonging and purpose shines throughout the many programs Benevilla offers, each created to support independence, wellbeing, and meaningful engagement. The most impactful programs for Benevilla are the Adult Day Life Enrichment Programs that cater to individuals living with dementia, Parkinson's, stroke recovery, intellectual disabilities, and age-related challenges. Programs offer a safe and structured environment where members can benefit from cognitive activities, social connections, and physical movement. These are truly invaluable services for caregivers who need time off to rest, work, or take care of personal needs while being reassured their loved ones are safe and supported. The organization's Home Services Program extends this support beyond its walls and into the homes of older adults who may be isolated, homebound, or struggling with daily tasks. With the help of dedicated volunteers, Benevilla offers free transportation, grocery shopping, light home maintenance, visitors, and phone pals to those in need in their service area. These simple acts make all the difference to many people between living independently and being overwhelmed. Caregivers also find key resources through support groups, workshops, and services at Benevilla. These programs help families walk the journey with the emotional, logistical, and medical complexities often associated with

caregiving. The organization also provides community education about healthy aging, Medicare, estate planning, ALTCS, long-term care options, and other topics to support informed decision-making. There is also the Benefitness Adaptive Gym, which provides person-centered fitness programs to help improve mobility, stability, weight management, and the quality of life for individuals who face physical challenges or chronic medical conditions. Benefitness Adaptive Gym provides an innovative and exciting fitness space to help those who have different abilities, special considerations, and chronic medical conditions in the West Valley. We customize fitness and wellness goals to meet the unique needs of each member and caregiver, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to improve their health and enhance vitality. The gym offers both group classes and one-on-one sessions tailored toward each member's goals. Benevilla also assists families with young children by offering Wirtzie's Preschool & Child Care, featuring the highest quality in early learning for children six weeks to five years old. Care and Education Programs, it enjoys a 4-star Quality First rating. With its low child-to-teacher ratios, small class sizes, intergenerational experiences with members from the on-site Adult Day Life Enrichment Program, and a splash pad for summer fun, Wirtzie's brings both exceptional care and joyful learning opportunities. These programs are needed now more than ever in the rapidly growing West Valley. With population growth comes a rising number of older adults living far from family members who might otherwise support them. "As the West Valley continues to grow, so does the need for meaningful support for older adults and caregivers," Byers says. "Many families here don't have relatives nearby, and that's where we step in. We provide trusted programs that keep people active, supported, and rooted in their community." For people wondering if it is time to get their family members involved in a program such as Benevilla’s, there are several signs to look for that can help in guiding the decision. These include: • increased forgetfulness or confusion • withdrawal from activities • loneliness or social isolation • difficulty managing daily routines • mood or behavior change • safety concerns including falls or wandering • medication issues • visible physical decline • caregiver exhaustion. When these and others start to show up, a structured, supportive program can assure safety, engagement, and an enhanced quality of life.

G IV IN G BAC K | WEL L NESS

Choosing a quality program is important, and Benevilla encourages families to look closely at accreditation, staff ratios, and overall care philosophy. The Adult Day Life Enrichment Programs of Benevilla are the only licensed Adult Day Programs in Arizona that are Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Accredited, including Dementia-Specific Accreditation at all locations. In April 2025, the organization obtained another three-year CARF reaccreditation with more than 1,800 standards reviewed for a total of 21 years of excellence. Byers stresses that supporting caregivers is as essential as directly supporting those enrolled in the programs themselves: “Caregivers give so much of themselves every day. Our programs provide not only a safe, engaging space for their loved ones but also the time and breathing room caregivers need to stay healthy. When the caregiver is supported, the whole family thrives.” For families or individuals who would like more information, Benevilla encourages them to call 623-584-4999 or visit Benevilla. org. To prepare for this call, it is helpful to consider what type of support the individual needs, any medical or mobility considerations, and preferred days or times for participation. And when the time is right, the team invites them to schedule a tour to find the best fit. Today, after more than four decades, Benevilla remains a beacon of compassion and connectivity in the West Valley, firmly rooted and continuing to be guided by its founding vision: neighbors helping neighbors, one family, one caregiver, and one community member at a time.
