10 years ago, Monica and Scot’s eating was out of control. Scott found himself coming home after a long day of work flopping onto the sofa instead of working out. He was very unhappy about his weight and was stressing big time. The catalyst for Scott to recognize his weight gain was his class reunion. Many of his former classmates and friends could not believe how much weight he gained and compared him to how thin he was in high school. He was so embarrassed he had to do something about it.

OUT OF CONTROL EATING

Monica had two babies in a short period of time and packed on the baby weight. She ate to deal with stress, and it was controlling her life. She was so desperate, she even considered surgery like the tummy tuck-she just wanted the extra tummy to be gone! She was dieting, counting calories, and it was not for her.

THE POWER OF POSITIVITY (CONTINUED) Together they designed a pendant honoring the late Cameron Gooch, a child the couple became close to through the Correa Family Foundation. "We designed a pendant in his honor, and through the collaboration, we were able to raise a lot of money that will ultimately benefit other children dealing with cancer. There were only 17 pendants made globally, which is special because it was Cameron's honorary Astros baseball jersey number." Although the past year has been a bit slower for the couple, they are looking forward to another collaboration with Fabergé later this year and getting back to in-person events. Aside from their foundation, they are also committed to helping their communities as different needs arise. Ever passionate about Puerto Rico, Carlos has stepped up through several natural disasters his island home has gone through recently, and Daniella recently launched her makeup line, Sweet D by Daniella Correa. "I've been thrilled with the outcome and so grateful at how receptive people have been with Sweet D. I am looking forward to launching more products later this summer." Over the past few years, we've had front row seats as the Correa's relationship unfolded. As Houstonians, we can only hope their dedication to helping others and the business of baseball keep them firmly planted in Houston.

PREPEAR TO LOVE IT!

THE PEAR-SCAPE SCULPTURE TRAIL INCLUDES 20, FOUR-FOOTHIGH, FIBERGLASS CAST PEARS ARTISTICALLY PAINTED BY LOCAL ARTISTS AND PLACED IN LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT PEARLAND. The project was envisioned and unveiled by the Pearland Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) in 2016 with the goal of promoting cultural tourism and community pride. The trail introduces visitors to both the beauty of the pears, and a tour of the city along the way.

Pearland Lifestyle | September 2021

The Pear-Scape Trail is spread over Pearland’s 68 square miles, with the 20 pears installed at nine distinct locations. Visitors can take part in the Pear Scape Scavenger Hunt to explore Pearland parks, attractions, and hospitality spots to discover their favorite pear. The scavenger hunt clues act as a self-guided tour; including riddles and puzzles that lead to the locations of the colorful pears. There are kid-friendly clues, as well as more in-depth options for those looking for more of a challenge. Guests can simply log on and find the clues at VisitPearland.com/pearscape, grab their group, and get ready to have fun outdoors and learn some interesting things about Pearland along the way. The Pearland CVB encourages visitors to take photos of themselves with the pears along the trail, and to post their findings on social media using the #VisitPearland hashtag.

LOCAL COFFEE SHOP OWNER SHARES HER PASSION

A Local Taste of New Orleans ARTICLE JOLENE PADILLA

CHANGES ARE COMING TO PJ’S COFFEE OF NEW ORLEANS IN PEARLAND. Fall is approaching and the staff at Pj’s will be unveiling their new patio just in time to enjoy some cooler weather with their fall lineup of beverages. Customers can expect to see their pumpkin latte and sweet cold foam along with the smores velvet ice pop onto the menu here soon. Kyra Sam, owner of this relatively new coffee shop of 3 years, shares why customers love Pj’s, “Our coffee is more than just a cup of coffee,” she explains, “it’s a gourmet product, but we also serve it with love.” Anyone sitting inside of Pj’s can immediately tell it boasts a loyal customer base by the number of patrons enjoying its robust atmosphere. Pj’s doesn’t gain loyalty with just it’s delicious coffee and pastries but by offering it’s own loyalty to customers through some of the toughest times. Kyra explains how this lively coffee shop went above and beyond to service it’s customers during the pandemic. “I had my husband going…dropping things off at people’s doors,” she says, “…we did things with hospitals… care boxes…” ensuring that there was never a day Pj’s was closed. Speaking with Kyra, it was obvious that the Pearland community was the obvious choice to set up shop. “My husband and I lived here in Pearland… and we wanted to bring a piece of New Orleans here…” she explains, “…there’s a lot of people here from Louisiana, and I felt like it would be something good and different to bring to Pearland.” In addition to Pearland, customers can expect to see more Pj’s and their tasty drinks from the Sam’s to pop up nearby. “We are looking to expand…” Kyra tells us, “we just signed a multi-franchise agreement to open up more stores… we are growing.” Hopefully soon, patrons will be able to see more of Pj’s in Pearland and the Manvel area. With that being said, be sure to stop by Pj’s Coffee of New Orleans for your next coffee run, and here at Pearland Lifestyle, we definitely recommend picking up one of their beignets with honey. 28

“W hether you a re i nto classic ca rs or a n ice muscle-mobi le, l i fe i n the fast la ne is a l i fe ma ny of us crave.”

EVERY MAN’S DREAM IS TO LOOK GOOD AND FEEL GOOD, AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO ACHIEVE BOTH THAN WITH AN AWESOME SET OF WHEELS! Cars make us feel confident and superior. If your car is in good shape, then your ego will match. This is something that has been instilled in little boys all the way to grown men for decades now. Hot Wheels toy brand isn’t a top tier toy production for no reason! Whether you are into classic cars or a nice muscle-mobile, life in the fast lane is a life many of us crave. Pearland local, Brian Stewart, from E1 Motor Sports, specializes in curing that “need for speed” complex that lives in all of us. Whether you are trying to make your car look good, go fast, or just keep up with the maintenance, Brian will take care of you. With three businesses underneath the E1 umbrella, you can expect to find it all, from an online server that helps auto enthusiasts around the country, to a store-front garage that focuses on top-tier aftermarket parts installation in addition to high-performance accessories. In the garage, you can expect to find Bosch and ASE certified technicians – boasting decades of experience in various dealerships and factory race teams. The third project for this industry leading team, comes in the form of a top-of-the-line Auto Spa. Drive on over this way if you need anything from a full interior and exterior detail, paint correction, ceramic coating, paint protection film, window tinting, wraps and so much more! Your vehicle is one of the most significant investments you will make, so why not make sure it’s well taken care of. E1 Motor Sport’s mission is to retain your vehicle’s value and make your car look better than the day you purchased it! Living life in the fast lane is fun and all, but looking good in the fast lane makes it all worthwhile! CityLifestyle.com/Pearland
