Hope you all had a smile and continue to smile through this holiday season! This month, we felt it important to help prepare you and your family for this upcoming winter, so we went and visited with our friends over at Epic Plumbing. They share their most important tips on how to properly get your home ready for the next freeze to avoid headaches. We also wanted to be sure and close out the year by recognizing a local educator that is truly making an impact in the lives of children around the area. Lastly, we wanted to share something very special that Lifestyle Publications does during this time of year. The best part about this – is that YOU can make a difference

A 62-YEAR-OLD GRANNY WENT FROM FLABBY TO LEAN I LOST 18 POUNDS & DOWN 2 SIZES WITH HYPNOSIS… My name is Mavis. I am a grandmother and I love doing puzzles, sudoku and riding my bike. I was feeling a great deal of fear and stress because of COVID-19. I felt overwhelmed because I couldn’t go out and be a grandmother for my grandchildren. I needed encouragement and help to lose weight. I have tried many diets like intermittent fasting and not eating as much. I have tried many diets on and off in the last year and nothing seemed to be working. I really wanted to fit into my clothes and not see my big stomach sticking out. I am so frustrated about my weight loss failure that I am craving for chocolate and ice cream. I eat because of my emotions, and I am embarrassed about my weight. If you can relate to my story and weight loss struggles -—read on….

My Husband & I Are Losing Weight Together Thanks to Southeast Hypnosis Center! I have lost 18 pounds and went from a size 16 to 12 in 3 ½ months. I used to hate walking, and now I am walking 3 miles most mornings. I enjoy walking now, and I am eating better and less. I feel great! The hypnotic audios help me to sleep better at night. My husband lost 25 pounds, and he is feeling much better too. We are still going to get help from the hypnosis audios. My message to you is to keep going and take it one day at a time.

Cover External Plumbing

To prepare your outside plumbing, cover all external piping, especially anything on the north/northwest side of the house. Cover your pipes by wrapping with towels or blankets and taping them down. Then place a plastic cover (bag or tarp) over the top. If you want extra protection, use a cardboard box over everything.

Drain Water Pipes in any vacant home

If you leave town or have a vacant home, turn water off at the water meter. Then open all faucets inside and outside of the house. By doing this, all the water will drain out. Be sure to leave all faucets open until water meter is turned back on. Pay close attention to any possible leaks when you turn the water back on.

Pearland Lifestyle | December 2021

Insulate or Cover piping in the attic

Protect all exposed piping in the attic by placing pipe insulation or rolled insulation over all the pipes. Also, block off all soffit/ overhang vents under the eve to your house that go to your attic by using cardboard, plywood or plastic. Covering the soffit vents will stop the air flow to the attic.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless Water Heaters require special attention if they are in the attic or externally mounted. If you have electricity, the tankless will protect itself. But if you lose power, then you must drain the water from the heater. See the owner’s manual for directions on how to drain your tankless water heater.

THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, WE SIT DOWN WITH MIRANDA GONZALES OF KEATING TOYOTA TO DISCUSS HER FAVORITE CHRISTMAS MEMORY AND WISH LIST FOR THIS YEARS CHRISTMAS. “My favorite Christmas memory has to be the year my son turned 4. We were spending our very first Christmas living in Stanton, Tennessee and we woke up to snow and a warm fire from the wood burning stove. My son had the biggest smile that morning opening presents and experiencing snow for the very first time.” When asked what her favorite charitable contribution from Keating Toyota has been, she quickly shared, “Our efforts and donations supporting Sunshine Kids. ARTICLE ALLISON GIBESON PHOTOGRAPHY JANIE JONES

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO ANNA SAROL, THE DAUGHTER OF A SINGLE MOTHER, WAS PARALYZED IN A GYMNASTICS ACCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR SHE DID NOT HAVE A STAIRLIFT IN HER HOME. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000. Anna Sarol

“I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent.

Pearland Lifestyle | December 2021

When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.”

GIVING BACK (CONTINUED)

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GIVE AWAY $3OO,OOO This year the company will have nominations for the giveaway open from December 1-15, 2021. To submit a nomination, follow @CityLifestyle on Instagram and fill out the form found in the bio link. The amount given to each recipient will be based on need. The leaders of Lifestyle Publications believe God has blessed them with their company’s continued success, so they in turn wish to be a blessing and encouragement to others as they increase the amount of this year’s giveaway to those in need to $300,000 for the year.

In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy 32
