BECKY HILLYARD
From Side Hustle to Style Empire
The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.
Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.
Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.
Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”

BEHIND Every Perfect WEDDING
BelFiore Bridal founder Angela reveals the unseen coordination, problem-solving, and care that make a bride’s big day feel effortless
ARTICLE BY JULIAN CREST PHOTOGRAPHY BY CLARA WANG PHOTOGRAPHY
When a bride walks down the aisle, everything seems effortless: flowers perfectly in place, music starting on cue, and guests swept up in the magic of the moment. What few realize is that behind every flawless wedding is a quiet orchestration, where every detail is anticipated and managed often before the couple even knows a challenge exists.
For Angela of BelFiore Bridal, this behind-the-scenes work is her specialty. More than a stylist or planner, she is the unseen architect of a bride’s day, ensuring that what unfolds in front of the guests feels effortless, joyful, and truly memorable.
“A seamless wedding day is the result of a lot of preparation, teamwork, and quiet problem solving,” Angela said. “When everything feels effortless, it usually means someone has been carefully managing every detail behind the scenes.”
FROM FLORIST TO BRIDAL VISIONARY
Angela’s journey into weddings began at just 16, working as a florist. Handling bouquets and centerpieces gave her a front-row seat to the emotional heartbeat of weddings. But it wasn’t just the beauty of the arrangements that captivated her.
“From the first bouquet I arranged, I realized it wasn’t just about the aesthetics — it was about the emotion behind the day and the people experiencing it,” she said. “That’s when I discovered I loved the relationships more than the décor.”
Her connection with brides, combined with a passion for organization and design, eventually led to the creation of BelFiore Bridal — a boutique that merges gown styling with full-service

wedding planning and coordination. The goal: create a seamless, personal experience where brides feel understood, supported, and celebrated.
“I wanted a space where brides feel like they’ve gained a new best friend, someone who knows their vision and makes it a reality,” Angela said.

THE HIDDEN WORK OF A WEDDING PLANNER
What happens “behind the curtain” is where Angela shines. Guests may see the floral arrangements or a perfectly choreographed first dance, but what they don’t see are the countless moving parts being coordinated in real time.
“Weddings involve so many moving pieces,” Angela explained. “Brides often feel like they’re managing ten different vendors, but we see the full picture. The dress, the design, the timeline, the atmosphere — it all connects.”
By overseeing both the creative and logistical elements, BelFiore Bridal ensures that each wedding reflects the couple’s personality while flowing naturally throughout the day. From confirming vendor schedules to adjusting ceremony timing and coordinating transportation, Angela is constantly thinking several steps ahead.
“The biggest stress points are usually timing and logistics,” she said. “Our job is to organize everything in advance and handle any surprises quietly, so the couple can focus on enjoying their day.”
“More than loving their dress, I want brides to feel like they had someone truly in their corner throughout the process, someone who understood their vision and cared deeply about making it happen.” - Angela Marchese
ANTICIPATING THE UNEXPECTED
No wedding goes perfectly according to plan — and that’s where Angela’s experience truly makes a difference. Weather shifts, last-minute vendor delays, or unexpected emergencies are all part of the reality of weddings, and her team handles them seamlessly.
She recalled a moment when a bride’s 90-year-old grandfather fell on the dance floor.
“We got him comfortable, had him checked by EMTs, and the bride didn’t know anything until the next day,” Angela said. “It’s about protecting the couple’s peace and making sure nothing overshadows the joy of their day.”
These unseen acts of care, often described by brides as “effortless,” are the hallmark of Angela’s approach.
MORE THAN A PLANNER: A TRUSTED PARTNER
Angela’s role extends far beyond logistics. Because she also serves as stylist and coordinator, the relationships she builds with brides become deeply personal.
“We talk about personal style, family dynamics, emotions, and dreams for the day,” she said. “By the time the wedding day arrives, many brides joke that I’ve become their wedding BFF.”
Her focus is always on keeping the bride centered in her own story. With so many voices and opinions involved in planning a wedding, it can be easy for brides to lose sight of what truly matters.
“My role is helping brides reconnect with what feels right for them and reminding them their wedding should reflect their story, not anyone else’s,” Angela said.
CREATING SPACE FOR JOY
One of the greatest benefits of professional coordination is the freedom it gives couples to experience their own wedding. Without someone managing the details, couples often find themselves answering questions, managing vendors, or troubleshooting issues — which pulls them out of the moment.
“When someone else handles all the logistics, the bride and groom can focus on the people and the moments that matter most,” Angela said. “They can actually enjoy their wedding instead of just surviving it.”
From orchestrating the ceremony timeline to keeping the reception flowing smoothly, every behind-thescenes decision is aimed at letting the couple live fully in the moment.
THE BELFIORE BRIDAL DIFFERENCE
What sets BelFiore apart is the combination of styling, planning, and coordination under one roof. Angela’s dual expertise ensures that every detail — from the gown to the décor to the timeline — feels cohesive and intentional.
“When the same person understands the bride’s style and vision, every choice works together,” she said. “It’s not just about beautiful elements; it’s about creating a day that feels authentic to the couple.”
Angela hopes that every bride walks away from the experience feeling confident, supported, and celebrated.
“More than loving their dress, I want brides to feel like they had someone truly in their corner throughout the process,” she said. “Someone who understood their vision and cared deeply about making it happen.”
Behind every perfect wedding photo, every smooth transition, every heartfelt moment, is the quiet dedication of a professional making it all come together. At BelFiore Bridal, that dedication starts with connection, care, and a commitment to making every wedding unforgettable.

HOW RM MODERN AESTHETICS IS HELPING WOMEN FEEL STRONGER FROM THE INSIDE OUT
STRENGTH, WELLNESS AND CONFIDENCE
For many women, the changes that come after childbirth or during perimenopause and menopause are often accepted as something they simply have to live with. Core strength may weaken, muscle mass gradually declines and pelvic floor issues such as bladder leakage can quietly become part of daily life.
At RM Modern Aesthetics in Emerson, the belief is that while these changes are common, they don’t have to be ignored. Through advanced non-surgical technologies and medically guided care, the practice helps women rebuild strength, restore function and feel more confident in their bodies.
Founded by board-certified surgeons Dr. Farshad Mansouri and Dr. David Radvinsky, RM Modern Aesthetics brings a clinical perspective to treatments that are often associated only with beauty or body contouring.
ARTICLE BY JULIAN CREST
“With more than 35 years of combined surgical experience, we approach aesthetics through the lens of anatomy, function and long-term health,” the physicians said. “Our mission is to create personalized, evidence-based plans that support total wellness — inside and out.”
WHERE WELLNESS MEETS AESTHETICS
Unlike traditional med spas that focus primarily on appearance, RM Modern Aesthetics was designed to address both the functional and cosmetic aspects of the body.
“Our approach blends advanced aesthetic treatments with functional wellness support,” the doctors said. “We look at the full picture — core strength, pelvic health, body composition and overall confidence.”
The practice offers technologies such as Emsculpt Neo and Emsella, along with guided weight-loss plans and personalized care designed to help patients feel stronger and healthier.
For many women, the focus on function is what makes the biggest difference.
“These treatments are not just about how someone looks,” the physicians said. “They are about helping people move better, feel stronger and regain confidence in their bodies.”
REBUILDING STRENGTH FROM THE CORE
One of the most innovative technologies offered at RM Modern Aesthetics is Emsculpt Neo, a treatment designed to simultaneously build muscle and reduce fat.
Using a combination of radiofrequency energy and high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy, the technology stimulates powerful muscle contractions far beyond what is possible through voluntary exercise alone.
“Each 30-minute session can generate around 20,000 muscle contractions,” the doctors explained. “This helps strengthen muscles while also improving body composition.”
The treatment requires no downtime and is often used to target areas such as the abdomen, glutes, arms and thighs.
But beyond visible toning, the benefits many patients notice are functional.
“Stronger core and glute muscles can improve posture, balance and stability,” they said. “Some clients also report relief from back discomfort because the muscles supporting the spine are stronger.”
These outcomes can be particularly meaningful for women whose bodies have gone through pregnancy or hormonal shifts.
SUPPORTING THE BODY AFTER CHILDBIRTH
The period following childbirth — sometimes referred to as the “fourth trimester” — is when many women begin to notice changes in their core and pelvic floor strength.
RM Modern Aesthetics developed a recovery program that pairs Emsculpt Neo with Emsella, a treatment designed specifically to strengthen pelvic floor muscles.
“Pregnancy and delivery place significant strain on the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor,” the physicians said. “Our goal is to help restore strength, stability and control.”
Emsculpt Neo helps rebuild abdominal and glute muscles while supporting recovery from diastasis recti, a condition in which the abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy.
Emsella, meanwhile, focuses on pelvic health. The chair-based treatment uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to stimulate thousands of pelvic muscle contractions during a 30-minute session.
CONTINUED >
Dr. David Radvinsky
“These contractions activate deep pelvic muscles in a way that is difficult to achieve through traditional exercises alone,” the doctors said.
The treatment is non-invasive, requires no recovery time and is performed while patients remain fully clothed.
NAVIGATING CHANGES DURING MENOPAUSE
Hormonal shifts during perimenopause and menopause can also affect muscle strength and body composition. As estrogen levels decline, women often experience accelerated muscle loss and increased fat accumulation around the midsection.
“Muscle is protective tissue,” the physicians said. “Maintaining muscle mass supports stability, posture and long-term mobility.”
To help women address these changes, RM Modern Aesthetics offers a Menopause Body Rebuild Program
that focuses on rebuilding muscle and strengthening the core.
Emsculpt Neo plays a key role in this process by stimulating muscle growth without medication or downtime. For many patients, it complements other wellness strategies such as exercise and hormone therapy.
Pelvic floor health can also change during this stage of life, making Emsella an important option for women experiencing urinary incontinence or reduced muscle strength.
“Pelvic floor weakness can impact everyday activities and quality of life,” the doctors said. “Strengthening those muscles can make a meaningful difference.”
REAL BENEFITS IN EVERYDAY LIFE
While aesthetic improvements are often the most visible results, patients frequently report changes that go far beyond appearance.
Dr. Farshad Mansouri
“Many clients tell us they feel stronger and more capable during daily activities or exercise,” the physicians said.
Stronger abdominal and glute muscles can improve balance, posture and core stability, while pelvic floor strengthening can help reduce bladder leakage and urgency.
“These changes can have a huge impact on confidence,” they said. “Women feel more comfortable laughing, traveling, exercising or simply going about their day without worrying about embarrassing moments.”
For many patients, those improvements are life changing.
“One thing that consistently stands out is how common incontinence is among women,” the doctors said. “Even when symptoms are mild, they can affect confidence and quality of life. After treatment with Emsella, many women notice a meaningful improvement.”
RETHINKING AESTHETIC TREATMENTS
Despite the functional benefits, aesthetic technologies are sometimes misunderstood.
“Some people assume these treatments are only about appearance,” the physicians said. “But for many women, the most important outcomes are related to strength, comfort and overall wellness.”
They also emphasize that treatments like Emsculpt Neo are not meant to replace exercise or healthy habits.
“These technologies support the body’s natural strength and complement an active lifestyle,” they said.
Their advice to women considering treatments is to focus on how they want to feel — not just how they want to look.
“When you prioritize strength, energy and comfort, the aesthetic benefits often follow naturally,” they said.
SUPPORTING WOMEN THROUGH EVERY STAGE
As awareness of functional wellness continues to grow, RM Modern Aesthetics is expanding its efforts to educate and support the local community.
The practice regularly hosts wellness events that connect residents with experts and resources focused on healthy aging and overall well-being.
For Dr. Mansouri and Dr. Radvinsky, the goal is simple: help women feel strong, capable and confident in their bodies throughout every stage of life.
“Changes related to childbirth or menopause may be common,” they said, “but they don’t have to be something women simply endure. There are real solutions that can help support the body and improve quality of life.”

Horses HEALING THROUGH
How wild mustangs and the Unbridled Heroes Project help veterans rediscover strength, trust and purpose
ARTICLE BY ANNA KOFITSAS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE UNBRIDLED HEROES PROJECT
Founders Mark and Amy McCambridge
Horses, like people, often resist being tamed. They need space, trust and patience to open up. Amy McCambridge understands this intimately, because horses mirror the emotions of the humans around them. She and her husband, Mark, founded a nonprofit, Unbridled Heroes Project, to connect veterans with wild mustangs in hopes of healing.
The husband-and-wife team created a sanctuary where individuals can spend time with these wild mustangs they rescue.
Stationed in California, McCambridge served four years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1998 to 2002, and her husband is also a veteran who served in the Army. When they returned, nothing made sense until they found healing through horses — wild mustangs, to be exact. The couple found that mustangs were misunderstood and displaced. They were broken, too. As they spent more and more time with horses, McCambridge and her husband felt free. They could run wild as they did before their trauma.
“We remembered who we were before the world broke us,” Amy said.
McCambridge and her husband started the nonprofit in September 2018 specifically to rescue mustangs, which provide equine therapy for people who have experienced trauma like their own. The program pairs rescued mustangs with veterans, offering connection, trust and transformation. The point is to provide equine therapy for veterans completely free of charge.
Horses feel what humans feel, and the healing power they offer can be transformative. The sanctuary began with Chirpa, an untrained horse adopted from Long Island. The tips of her ears were frostbitten off due to the extreme cold in Nevada, before she came to Long Island. Her calm and steady demeanor puts clients at ease and spreads hope to the seemingly hopeless.
The second to arrive was Hope, a rescued mustang who suffered extreme neglect and abuse in Florida. Shiloh came to them third, from Nevada, initially auctioned off for a mustang makeover but withdrew when she refused to be haltered. After some bouncing around, Shiloh found a home with Unbridled.
Kaia was brought to Unbridled as one of the first mustangs, as well. She was rescued from a Pennsylvania kill pen, and her pain was visible in her eyes. McCambridge and her husband made it their mission to save Kaia. They outbid the kill buyers, and she was brought to Unbridled.
In the spring 2018, McCambridge spent 10 days in Florida training with Cat Zimmerman on how to rescue horses.
Zimmerman is an acclaimed mustang trainer and the owner of CZ Mustangs, a training program that helps traumatized horses and humans alike. There, McCambridge came to the realization that she wanted to open her own version of the program: Unbridled Heroes Project.
Once back in New Jersey, McCambridge found a space for the mustangs she would rescue. Unbridled Heroes ended up being a project under CZ Mustangs, and McCambridge applied for nonprofit status at that point. Her dream was alive. A barn was found, a lease was signed, and soon they had their grand opening.
McCambridge said a fear of dying inspired Unbridled Heroes Project, as did her family history and personal trials. After surviving a benign brain tumor and watching her mother battle terminal cancer, she realized life was too short to wait.
“I asked Mark, ‘What if we never live?’ That fear pushed us to chase the dream of saving horses — and helping veterans — without overthinking it,” she said.
UNBRIDLED HEROES
To learn more about Unbridled Heroes or to volunteer, donate or support the program, visit unbridledheroesproject.org, follow them on Instagram @unbridledheroes_, or email unbridledheroesproject@gmail.com.
“It’s about creating a place where both horses and humans can finally breathe,”- Amy McCambridge
The program emphasizes mental health, patience and emotional connection. Veterans aren’t expected to ride immediately. Instead, they spend time with the horses — grooming, leading and simply being present.
Unbridled Heroes also has opportunities to volunteer. Community members can donate, help with horse care or participate in events that highlight the ongoing need for awareness and support. Memorial Day holds special significance for the organization, honoring veterans through both action and empathy.
The beautiful connection that is built between a mustang and a human cannot be matched. Horses understand what a veteran went through, without words. There is healing over trauma that can’t be explained. A veteran can feel the strength of a horse by simply spending time with them, not only by riding.
McCambridge’s own story — from living in an orphanage in Colombia to studying political science at the University of California, Riverside (UCR), to helping Mark found Unbridled Heroes — illustrates the deep passion at the root of the project.
“You can be your own hero,” she said. “If you just live authentically, you have the power to drive change — for yourself and others.”
Whether it’s training a deeply empathetic horse like Kaia or helping a veteran rediscover confidence, hope and dignity, the work at Unbridled Heroes proves that healing can be mutual, slow and profoundly beautiful. Here, the horses are wild. They are free — and so are the people they help heal.
When people learn about the mustang rescue, they realize this isn’t just about horses. “It’s about creating a place where both horses and humans can finally breathe,” Amy says.

Immaculate Heart Academy celebrates the young women shaping the future of their community
Celebrating women at Immaculate Heart Academy is not limited to Women’s History Month in March. At the all-girls Catholic high school, educators believe every day is an opportunity to recognize the young women in the community who continue to impress with their achievements, leadership and service.
Through an environment that encourages academic excellence, artistic immersion, athletic competition, Christian service and lifelong sisterhood, the school empowers students to pursue ambitious goals while developing confidence and character.
Choosing where to send a daughter to high school is one of the most important decisions families make for her future.
During these formative years, young women begin to find their voice, discover their interests and define the person they want to become. At Immaculate Heart Academy, faculty and staff work to support that growth by challenging students intellectually while nurturing their spiritual development.
This year, the school recognized a group of exceptional students as Women of Valor — an honor awarded to young women nominated by teachers, faculty and classmates for their leadership, service and positive influence within the school community.
The 11 students were celebrated during a special ceremony attended by their families and were featured on posters displayed

From academic excellence and advocacy for women’s athletics to service, leadership and inclusivity, each of these young women reflects the values that define the Immaculate Heart Academy community.
“At IHA, the phrase ‘Women of Valor’ is more than a title,” said Principal Kerry Carroll ’04. “It is rooted in the biblical passage from Proverbs 31, which describes a woman who lives with strength, wisdom, compassion and courage — a woman who serves others, leads with integrity and builds up her community.”
Carroll said each student honored represents those values in her own unique way.
“These young women embody our school’s Women of Valor tradition by following their own path,” she said. “Some lead through service, some through quiet mentorship, some through joyful spirit and others through extraordinary resilience. Each one strengthens the sisterhood that defines our school.”
The students recognized as Women of Valor demonstrate leadership not only through their achievements but also through the way they uplift the community around them. Whether through academics, athletics, service or advocacy, their contributions reflect the mission of the school: to form young women who embody faith, leadership and compassion.
At the center of Immaculate Heart Academy’s mission is the commitment to forming students as young women who embody the Gospel in their daily lives. The school challenges students academically while encouraging them to grow spiritually, lead with confidence and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Students benefit from a comprehensive educational experience that includes 26 Advanced Placement courses and 14 dual-enrollment college offerings, along with more than 80 clubs and extracurricular activities and 17 athletic teams. Beyond the classroom, the school’s strong emphasis on Christian service encourages students to give back to their communities and develop compassion for others. FASHIONISTA
How Sonie Skogerson turned a background in fashion into a thriving, women-led design business in Bergen County
When Sonie Skogerson describes her career journey, she likes to say she simply shifted from dressing people to dressing windows.
After more than a decade working in fashion for brands like Brioni and Malo and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, Skogerson built a life around style, fabric and helping clients look their best. But once she moved to Bergen County to raise a family, the constant travel that came with the fashion industry became more difficult to maintain.
At the time, she wasn’t necessarily searching for a new career. But an unexpected opportunity appeared: a franchise with Budget Blinds.
“We were exploring different business ideas, and franchising really fell into our lap,” Skogerson said. “Budget Blinds had just launched more of the soft fashion side of the business — drapery, top treatments and fabric design. Since I had worked with textiles for so many years, it felt like a natural transition.”
In 2013, Skogerson purchased the Paramus and Westwood franchises. Nearly a decade later, in 2022, she expanded again by acquiring the Ridgewood territory, building what is now Budget Blinds of Paramus, Ridgewood & Westwood.
Today, she proudly calls herself the “Window Fashionista.”
BRINGING THE SHOWROOM HOME
Unlike traditional home décor stores, Budget Blinds operates on a shop-at-home model designed to simplify the design process.
Instead of asking customers to visit a showroom and guess what products might look like in their space, Skogerson’s team brings the design consultation directly to the client’s home.
“We bring the showroom to you,” Skogerson said. “Our designers come to your house with samples, measure the windows, talk through the design and provide a quote right there.”
From blinds and shutters to custom shades and drapery, the company handles every step of the process. After a design is finalized, the products are custom-made and installed by Skogerson’s in-house installation team, typically within three to five weeks.
“We want the experience to feel easy and personalized,” she said. “Your window treatments should work for your lifestyle, not the other way around.”
FROM CORPORATE FASHION TO BUSINESS OWNER
Starting her own business came with challenges, particularly after leaving the structured world of corporate fashion.
“Going from working for a big company to suddenly being your own team can feel lonely in the beginning,” Skogerson said.
Fortunately, the franchise model provided support and mentorship from other owners across the region. Monthly breakfast meetings and regional conferences helped her build relationships and exchange ideas with fellow franchise owners.
One mentor in particular made an impact.
“In the early days, I often reached out to neighboring franchise owner Sal Militello, who has been in the business for more than 20 years,” Skogerson said. “That mentorship was incredibly valuable. Over time, many of us became friends, and the support system has been amazing.”
“Being a womenowned business means leading with a strong sense of community, relationships and service.”
- Sonie Skogerson
Owner Sonie Skogerson
A WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS ROOTED IN COMMUNITY
For Skogerson, being a woman business owner in Bergen County means building relationships, not just transactions.
“Being a women-owned business means leading with a strong sense of community, relationships and service,” she said. “Supporting local schools and businesses is important to me — whether that’s donating, participating in events or partnering with other local entrepreneurs.”
Those partnerships often include collaborations with area interior designers and small businesses. She frequently works with design professionals on home projects and cross-promotes fellow business owners on social media.
Networking also played a major role in growing her business early on.
“I used to drive around in my Budget Blinds van, and people would recognize it and call me the ‘blinds girl,’” she said with a laugh. “Getting out into the community and meeting people has always been one of the best ways to build relationships.”
DESIGNING WINDOWS THAT WORK FOR REAL LIFE
One of the biggest misconceptions about window treatments is that they’re purely decorative. In reality, they also play an important role in safety, privacy and energy efficiency.
Skogerson encourages homeowners — especially families with young children — to evaluate older window coverings carefully.
“Safety is a big one,” she said. “Traditional cords were eliminated a few years ago because of child safety concerns. Those cords should never be dangling. Updating to cordless or motorized shades is a much safer option.”
For homeowners looking to refresh their interiors this season, she also sees several design trends gaining popularity.
“Cordless or motorized shades are always my first recommendation,” she said. “Natural fabrics are also huge right now — linen blends, textured materials and woven shades.”
Her favorite look at the moment combines simplicity with warmth.
“The most popular design we’re seeing is a natural Roman shade paired with side panels in a linen blend on an antique bronze rod,” she said. “It’s timeless and works in so many homes.”
A DESIGN REFRESH THAT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE OVERWHELMING
Updating a home can feel daunting, but Skogerson encourages homeowners to take it one step at a time.
“We love helping homeowners make their homes both functional and beautiful. That’s what great design should do.”
- Sonie Skogerson
“Window treatments are one of the easiest ways to refresh a room,” she said. “Many people move into homes that already have treatments installed, and after about 10 years they usually need updating.”
Her advice? Start small.
“I always tell clients we don’t have to do everything at once,” she said. “We can work room by room. Take your time and do it right.”
For Skogerson, the most rewarding part of the business is seeing how thoughtful design can transform a space.
“We love helping homeowners make their homes both functional and beautiful,” she said. “That’s what great design should do.”

BREAKFAST Mother’s Day
BERRY BRUSCHETTA
A RECIPE FROM A CUP FULL OF SASS
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY AMY TINNIN
This Berry Bruschetta is a delightful twist on the classic bruschetta that we all love. This version uses fruit, bringing a sweet element to the traditionally savory dish. With the use of fresh berries, cream cheese, delicious fruit spread, crumbled cheese, and fresh rosemary, it is the perfect addition to your next spring event. This simple, yet beautiful appetizer could be enjoyed at your next brunch, shower or Mother’s Day celebration. But let’s be honest—you don’t need an excuse to enjoy this delectable dish!
INGREDIENTS:
• 12 baguette slices
• Extra virgin olive oil (for brushing)
• 4 oz cream cheese
• 1/4 cup Fruit and Honey Triple Berry Spread (or any fruit spread of your choice)
• 1/3 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
• 1/3 cup fresh blueberries
• 2 oz fruit cheese (such as Wensleydale with Autumn Fruit), crumbled
• Fresh rosemary for garnish
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Lightly brush the front and back of the baguette slices with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
3. Toast baguette slices in the oven for 3-5 minutes or until lightly toasted.
4. Once the baguette slices are cool, spread a generous layer of cream cheese over each slice.
5. Add the fruit spread on top of the cream cheese.
6. Add sliced strawberries and a few blueberries, allowing the vibrant colors to pop. (A great place to find fresh fruit is our local staple, Crystal & Rich’s Produce.)
7. Crumble the fruit cheese over the top for an added layer of richness and depth.
8. Garnish with fresh Rosemary if desired.
9. Serve and enjoy!
