The Magic of Anticipation
Snowy calendar days, holiday parties and markets, family gatherings, galas and fundraisers make December a unique flurry of connection and community. And I hope it’s just that, full of connection and love, traditions, cozy cherished moments, as well as new experiences, and new memories made. It’s easy to fill December with expectation, but I hope you experience the magic of anticipation even more so.
Our holiday issue this year features Mrs. Claus and her efforts to spread joy throughout our community one event at a time. This includes the presentation of Downtown Parker’s Holiday Market. It’s an honor to share about those who make our town of Parker truly magical. This includes the Parker Chamber Foundation and its support for dozens of nonprofits and organizations in Parker.
We hope this issue inspires your holidays with Darren & Phillip’s Nutcracker Dreams Matching PJs Collection and a list of the unique and treasured gifts in Parker’s trove of boutiques. And of course, we want to stay mindful this season as we have a candid conversation with Mental Health Therapist Karis Lambert about how to manage stress during the holidays.
While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community who need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other, extending grace, empathy and love.
Cheers,

“I became Mrs. Claus right then… that was 45 years ago.”
Santa’s elves live among us, bringing the spirit of Christmas to every corner of our community. What if we told you here in Parker, we have a Mrs. Claus to ensure Santa’s true meaning spreads far and wide throughout the year? A longtime Parker resident, Kam Breitenbach, became Mrs. Claus to share the impact that the giving season brings to true believers.
“I was a receptionist at Town Hall in Parker,” Kam explains. “Mayor Gary Lasater came in and said, ‘I’ve got these toys and I’m sorting them out.’” The toys would be going to a few Title 1 schools in Aurora, where his wife taught. He asked Kam to help sort and then distribute them to the children.
“I wore a Christmas-type dress,” Kam says. “There was this little boy who came up and said, ‘Santa and Mrs. Claus, I got a book for myself, but could I get one for my little brother? It will probably be his only
Christmas present.’ Well, I became Mrs. Claus right then…that was 45 years ago.”
Being Mrs. Claus means Kam takes part in many events throughout the Parker community and surrounding areas to bring cheer to those who need it most. Being involved with the Downtown Business Alliance, a non-profit organization that has managed the Parker Christmas parade for the last three years, has been a highlight for Kam.
“They canceled the Parker parade this morning,” Kam speaks mournfully. “It’s just too expensive.”
Taking a deep breath, she continues, “I’ve got a 2:30 appointment to see what we can do. I always have ideas.” Being Mrs. Claus, we never doubted she would turn this around, and that she did.
Working with the Downtown Business Alliance, Kam helped them develop the idea of a Christmas Market instead.
“I’m really booked this year, which is fun.”
The market will cost half of what the parade does and provide local businesses with an opportunity to shine during the holiday season. The Downtown Business Alliance is a coalition of members, including businesses, managers and supporters, who believe in the soul of the Parker community. Kam fits right into that mold.
“I’m really booked this year, which is fun,” Kam chirps with a sparkle in her eyes.
She began visiting various senior facilities to spread joy to the patients. She now visits Victoria Hills, Morning Star and the hospital, among others, with more of Santa’s helpers.
“So I was going around to the different senior facilities,” Kam explains. “And it got to be where I couldn’t walk the halls as I got older when I went to Skyridge. I asked my Rotary if he would get involved. Now, it’s a signature event for the Rotary. We’ll go to Skyridge, have three or four Santas, Mrs. Clauses and elves.”
While Kam finds every event a joy, her two favorite things are her work with Make-A-Wish and Parker Valley Hope.
“The kids come in and they’ll have it set up like a store,” Kam says. “They’ll have a section for moms, dads, grandparents and then kids by different ages. The kids have a slip they have filled out who they want to give their Christmas present to, and they have their fake money, and they go and buy their Christmas presents.”
“The kids forget about being sick there for a short time,” she explains. “Last year, a little girl came flying out of
nowhere and jumped in my lap, and she wouldn’t let go. I must have had her for three to five minutes, just whispering in her ear.”
Her other favorite, Parker Valley Hope, has a sister location in Littleton, where they host a Christmas party for families with mothers who are undergoing rehabilitation. It’s one of the highlights for Kam as she brings gifts, this year teddy bears, for all the children.
As Kam continues to extend love throughout the community, she has secured Core’s sponsorship of Breakfast with Santa again this year at the Parker Senior Center, which will be held on Friday, December 19th. Being the first day of winter break, she is sure to see many families excited to see her and, of course, Santa.
While pondering some of the best moments of being Mrs. Claus, Kam says, “When I went to an Alzheimer’s unit, two of these ladies were sitting on a bench, and they were not happy. So I started talking to the first one, and she just started chatting right along. The other lady, however, could be seen getting more and more irritated. So I finally went and started talking to her, and they told me that was the first time she’d ever spoken since she’s been there.”
The power of Mrs. Claus extends beyond age and generation, sickness and loss, and she’s right here in our backyard–spreading the true meaning of Christmas everywhere she goes.

THE SEASON TO TAKE A BREATH AND DE-STRESS WITH MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST
KARIS LAMBERT
While the holidays can be beautiful, they can also be triggering in various ways. I interviewed Karis Lambert, a Licensed Professional Counselor, to find out her four tips on how to manage stress during the holidays.
Karis’s practice, Her Space Counseling, centers around supporting women. Certified in perinatal mental health and EMDR therapy, she works with women trying to get pregnant, moms, as well as women navigating stress, anxiety and trauma.
One note, for those grieving, Karis shares, “It’s important to honor what’s coming up for you. Tend to it. It can be easy to push away, but grief is one of those things that, when it comes up, you need to be in it. It’s okay to be sad, to cry and to say no to things to take the time you need.”

SET PROPER BOUNDARIES
PRACTICE MINDFULNESS AND GROUNDING
One really helpful grounding skill is called The Five Senses. It’s where you look around the room and notice five things, then four things that you can hear, three things you can touch, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste. Find ways to keep yourself in the present; maybe it’s exercise or connecting with someone.
Identify your limits. A lot of times, we think about physical boundaries, but boundaries can also be time and topics of conversation. Boundaries are the way we protect ourselves. You can’t continuously pour from an empty cup; you have to protect yourself and boundaries are how you do that. Identify your boundaries and then communicate them.
CONNECTION OVER PERFECTION
With social media and all the holiday traditions, it’s easy to want it all to be perfect, but focus on connection rather than perfection. Focus on being in the moment, being with people you care about - that’s where the holiday fun comes in. Our best memories don’t rely on the perfect things, but instead on the human things. 01
SELF-CARE AND NOURISHMENT
Schedule a time where you can take care of yourself. Take a break to get coffee by yourself when you have a house full of people at home that you’re hosting or take a walk. Maybe it’s gentle movement or eating food that feels good for your body. Do things that are going to fill you up during this season where you are pouring out.

A FESTIVAL THAT Fuels Community
FUNDED BY PARKER DAYS FESTIVAL, THE PARKER CHAMBER FOUNDATION OFFERS GRANTS AND SUPPORTS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS.
ARTICLE BY CASSIDY RITTER | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JUSTIN COOK
LOCAL IMPACT
From grants to educational initiatives, the Parker Chamber Foundation supports the broader Parker community.
The annual Parker Days Festival has been taking place in Parker for nearly 50 years, but few know that this longstanding summer event gives back to the community throughout the year.
The festival is owned and presented by the Parker Chamber Foundation (PCF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on a mission to support initiatives, programs and events that promote “economic growth, business leadership and community prosperity,” according to the foundation’s website.
Profits from the Parker Days Festival fund the PCF and its philanthropic efforts, including doling out community grants to organizations located within 20 miles of Parker.
“The long-term vision is that the Parker Chamber Foundation is financially able to be a stronger force for good in the community, and we’re taking the first baby steps in that direction,” says T.J. Sullivan, President and CEO of the Parker Chamber of Commerce and ExecutiveDirector of the PCF.
The PCF was founded in 2018, but hasn’t always been as active as it is today.
The foundation was reestablished in late 2021 and early 2022, shortly after T.J. joined the Chamber. “At the time, the PCF had about $2,000 in the bank — a stark difference from the $500,000 the PCF has in the bank today,” he says.
“The Parker Days Festival of 2022 was kind of do or die. The stakes were really,
really high,” T.J. says. “One of the first things I did [when I joined the Chamber] was I sold the festival from the Chamber to the Foundation.”
And the sale paid off.
Today, the PCF supports dozens of nonprofits and organizations doing good deeds in Parker.
The PCF launched its Community Grants Program last year, giving a collective $21,000 to 26 nonprofits, organizations and clubs. This year, the PCF gave out $41,500 in grants to 31 organizations. “The goal is to give out more money every year,” T.J. says.
The grants this year ranged from $300 to $5,000 and went to Parker Arts, Night Lights Kids, Covered Colorado, The Living Spectrum and several other organizations. One grant was awarded to Sagewood Middle School to build a ramp for students in wheelchairs or with mobility challenges.
“The ramp will give students access to an outdoor garden area,” says Kara Massa, Vice President of membership at the Chamber.
Chamber members, but the money awarded must be used to benefit the Parker community,” T.J. says.
T.J. and Kara encourage applicants to share a story with the PCF and its board about how the funds will be used and why they are necessary.
“Give us a story. Give us something that we can say, ‘Okay, we helped make happen,’” T.J. says.
In addition to the Community Grants Program, the foundation also financially assists the Parker Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Experience, a 10-month leadership development program.
Today, the PCF supports dozens of nonprofits and organizations doing good deeds in Parker.
“For the last two years, we have not turned away anybody who’s applied,”
T.J. says. “I don’t know if that’s going to be the case in 2026 because the word is getting out.”
Applications for the 2026 Community Grants Program will open on Jan. 1 and close in March. “Those who receive funds don’t have to be
The PCF’s community support doesn’t stop there.
“In 2026, the foundation will give a small grant to the Chamber for the Parker Chamber Symposium, a day of training and learning for small business owners in Parker,” T.J. says.
The foundation is also hoping to launch a Young Entrepreneurs Academy in 2027 for middle school students.
“I seriously hope in 10 years…we can look at the foundation and say, ‘My God, so many of the good things that are happening in Parker are coming from the Chamber Foundation,’”
T.J. says.
