Lifestyle Letter

When we think of exploring, our minds often go to far-off places — tropical getaways or trips that require a plane ticket. It’s easy to associate adventure with leaving home in search of experiences we wouldn’t find locally.

In recent years, I’ve often found myself living for the next adventure — something to break up the routine of work and daily life. Still, I couldn’t help but wonder if my constant urge to book the next trip was making me miss out on the life in between. After all, exploring can be done within our day-to-day moments. Whether it’s a spontaneous visit to that one park a friend recommended, trying the restaurant you swore you wouldn’t like, or taking the long way home to soak up the scenery, I’ve grown to love these little things that make me feel like I’m truly exploring my hometown. While traveling still remains a highlight of my year, I’ve started to savor the days in between — the ones that make up most of my life.

Our July issue is centered around this theme of “explore” — whether that means your next summer getaway or simply connecting with your local community a little more. Our hope is that you slow down, look a little closer, and find the everyday moments that might otherwise pass you by. You don’t always have to travel far to discover something new — sometimes all it takes is paying a little more attention to what’s already around you.

Winter Park’s Golf Courses

Embrace a Luxe New Chapter

In Winter Park, where charm and civic vision intersect, two public golf courses—WP9 and WP18—are receiving a series of sophisticated upgrades that speak not only to a love of the game, but to the city’s deeper commitment to preserving lifestyle, legacy, and land.

The nine-hole Winter Park Golf Course (WP9), ranked among the nation’s top public nine-hole courses, has long been a local treasure. Generations have gathered here not simply to tee off, but to connect—neighbors walking the fairways, children learning to putt, and families celebrating milestones in the shadow of the historic clubhouse. Now, as demand reaches record highs with over 100 names on the WP9 membership waitlist, the city is reinvesting in the experience with elegant, meaningful improvements.

Recent enhancements include a new rain shelter on Hole 4 and expanded patio space for both socializing and overflow event use. The addition of the Thorguard® lightning prediction system—accessible in real-time via mobile devices—adds a layer of modern safety. Construction is underway on a new maintenance facility set for completion in Fall 2025. This new building will allow for more efficient course care while enabling a graceful transformation of the current facility into an indoor columbarium and

memorial garden—further deepening WP9’s connection to the city’s heritage.

While recent winter rounds surged past 27,000—an all-time record—the city continues to prioritize course health. In March, a USGA agronomist was brought in to assess the greens, with measures now in place to restore conditions to premier standards. Behind the scenes, strategic updates like bunker liners are improving drainage and durability while reducing maintenance costs.

Across town, WP18—Winter Park Pines Golf Course—is emerging as a rejuvenated destination following its 2022 acquisition. Purchased with the express intent of preserving its 95 acres from development, the course has become both a recreational and environmental asset. Since the purchase, the city has fully renovated the clubhouse and pro shop, enhancing aesthetics while ensuring ADA compliance. A newly added beer garden and extended patio dining area offer stylish, relaxed gathering spaces, while the synthetic-turf driving range and upgraded GPS-enabled cart fleet bring contemporary efficiency to the player experience.

Course conditions have also seen a meticulous overhaul: canals have been dredged, new bridges constructed, and more than 200 pine trees introduced to the landscape. Aging irrigation systems have been replaced, new bunkers installed, and invasive plant species removed. The course now plays as a par-71, thanks to additional yardage and redesigned holes—officially rated by the USGA earlier this year.

Looking ahead, the city plans to introduce golf tracking technology to the WP18 driving range—offering both serious practice tools and interactive games in the style of Topgolf®. These innovations will extend usable hours, welcome newcomers to the sport, and add a new layer of engagement for all skill levels.

Winter Park’s investment in these golf courses transcends fairways and greens. It is, as Mayor Sheila DeCiccio affirms, “an investment in our quality of life.” With both courses self-sustaining through memberships, green fees, and food and beverage sales, their stewardship offers a sustainable model for public recreation.

Beyond sport, these spaces are cultivated parklands—spaces where history is honored, nature is nurtured, and the community flourishes. As Winter Park continues to grow, it is doing so with grace, vision, and a swing as refined as the courses it calls its own.

Redefining Elegance Through Comfort

Swimwear isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good too. The latest swimwear trends feature designs that let women express themselves while actually being comfortable. From bikinis you can flip inside-out for two different looks, to styles that celebrate real bodies instead of hiding them; swimwear is finally catching up to what women have wanted all along— the confidence to hit the beach without secondguessing themselves. Ir al Sol

VERSATILITY LEADS THE WAY

One of the most prominent trends is the rise of reversible and multi-way swimwear. These dynamic pieces offer two looks in one— often featuring a solid color on one side and a vibrant print on the other— making them ideal for travel, busy lifestyles, and sustainability-minded consumers. Multi-way tops and adjustable components provide even more flexibility, transforming a single swimsuit into several distinct styles.

CUSTOMIZATION & FIT INCLUSIVITY

There is a growing demand for subtle customization options that create a uniquely tailored swimwear experience. Styles that offer compression along the waistline, less cheeky bottoms, or deeper cleavage cuts cater to diverse body types and preferences. Swimwear is shifting toward inclusivity, ensuring women of all shapes and life stages can find a suit that celebrates their form rather than forcing it into a trend.

FULL COVERAGE, FULLY STYLISH

Full coverage is a highlight as it connects confidently with modernity. High-waisted bikinis, one-pieces with supportive structures, and moderate coverage bottoms are trending for their ability to deliver comfort and polish. These designs appeal to women returning to swimwear after years away, offering them renewed confidence in contemporary silhouettes.

TIMELESS OVER TRENDY

Clean cuts, quality fabrics, and enduring designs are replacing fast-fashion options. Today’s consumer leans toward pieces that endure beyond a single season— essentials that feel current but never fleeting.

Together, these trends illustrate a new era in swimwear— one in which feeling good is as important as looking good, and every woman deserves a suit that moves with her, reflects her, and elevates her.

FASHION & HOPE

WHERE STYLE MEETS PURPOSE

In the heart of Orlando, Fashion & Hope returns for its 13th year, bringing style, local talent, and a meaningful purpose together for a runway fashion show. This event is far more than just a fashion show; it brings together local vendors, hairstylists, makeup artists, boutiques, and models for a cause that’s bigger than themselves.

Hosted by the Hope for More Foundation , Fashion & Hope is one of several nontraditional, high-energy charity events the organization hosts each year. Over the past decade, they’ve raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a wide range of Central Florida causes. This year’s show is benefiting the Give Hope Foundation , and organizers have their sights set on their most ambitious goal yet: $200,000.

CONTINUED

The Give Hope Foundation focuses on local children and families in Central Florida facing the challenges of pediatric cancer. They have become a lifeline for these kids and their families by helping to meet their most pressing practical needs, providing direct financial assistance to families undergoing active treatment. The Give Hope Foundation steps in when the emotional and financial toll becomes overwhelming, offering hope, stability, and tangible support when it’s needed most.

Last year’s show raised a record-breaking $155,000, and the Hope for More Foundation continues to foster a high-energy environment that encourages the Central Florida community to come together for a night of runway fashion for a great cause. The atmosphere of these shows can be described as inspiring and empowering. Fashion & Hope focuses on putting the FUN in fundraising, with pop-up art galleries and fashion-forward looks. It’s not your run-of-the-mill fashion show.

With a theme like Party with a Purpose , it encourages everyone to have a great time while remembering the reason they’re there—to support the Give Hope Foundation and give back to their community. Organizer J.R. Tanghal remarks on his favorite moments of the shows: “Right before show time, getting all the models, staff, and stylists in one room and reminding everyone what the night is about,” says Tanghal.

The event’s impact goes far beyond the runway. It gives a sense of hope and community for all who partake, donate, and watch. “There are many amazing charity events that take place in Orlando... I love how our community comes together to make a difference,” said Tanghal.

Can’t make the event? Visit the Hope for More Foundation’s website and click on Fashion & Hope to donate.

Fashion & Hope

For one Fashion & Hope model, it was more than just a runway - it was a turning point for her. After the show, she shared that being a part of the event helped her overcome her own personal struggles and rekindle her passion for life and helping others. The energy of the event and everyone coming together to support a cause was inspiring and empowering. This is the entire purpose behind an event like Fashion & Hope - creating a space that is energetic and inspiring, with its roots being to support a good cause and come together as a community.

Leiah – A New Culinary Gem in Downtown Orlando
Leiah may be new to the scene, but it’s already setting the bar.

Downtown Orlando’s culinary landscape just got a little more elevated with the recent opening of Leiah, a refined new restaurant bringing artful dining and heartfelt hospitality to the city’s vibrant core. Located at 409 N. Magnolia Avenue, this modern kitchen and cellar is the latest venture by acclaimed Chef Omar Torres, whose background includes time spent at the Ritz-Carlton, Waldorf Astoria, and Marriott Autograph Collection.

Named after his daughter, Leiah is a deeply personal concept rooted in family, intention, and a passion for refined simplicity. The menu reflects Chef Torres’ dedication to sourcing with integrity— spotlighting seasonal, local ingredients and ethically harvested seafood. With a blend of contemporary American cuisine and subtle global inspiration, each dish is a tribute to technique, creativity, and balance.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of indulging in a 6-course Chef’s Tasting Menu— a beautifully paced and thoughtfully curated experience.

It featured a show-stopping 12-hour reduction Lobster Bisque, one of the richest and most memorable we’ve ever had, followed by handmade cheese tortellini that delivered pure comfort with a luxurious twist. The remaining four courses continued the momentum, each dish an elegant expression of flavor, precision, and creativity.

Wine lovers will appreciate the curated cellar designed to complement each course, while those seeking a more immersive evening will find the Chef’s Table tasting experience to be a true highlight— where culinary technique meets storytelling.

The space itself mirrors the thoughtful nature of the food: sophisticated yet welcoming, with soft lighting, modern design, and a warm ambiance perfect for romantic evenings, intimate gatherings, or celebrations worth remembering.

Leiah may be new to the scene, but it’s already setting the bar. With its chef-driven vision, inspired origins, and commitment to craft, this is a destination worth savoring—where every visit feels both indulgent and personal.

BAREFOOT LUXURY

in the Bahamas:

A Central Floridian’s Guide to Green Turtle Cay

Tucked away in the beautiful Abacos, Green Turtle Cay is a dreamy Bahamian escape where turquoise waters meet laid-back island life. Whether you’re diving into adventure or seeking tranquil moments by the sea, this small island packs a big punch for travelers craving authenticity, sunshine, and a warm community vibe.

Getting to Green Turtle Cay is a little adventure of its own—think  Planes, Trains and Automobiles , island-style. Hop on the Brightline to West Palm Beach, then catch a direct BahamasAir flight to Marsh Harbor. From there, it’s a 20-minute taxi ride to the ferry dock—your final stop before paradise. The short ferry ride whisks you across sparkling waters and drops you right in the heart of Green Turtle Cay, either at the downtown dock or the Green Turtle Club. By the time your feet hit the sand, the journey feels more like part of the magic.

Start your day at  Plymouth Rock Liquors and Cafe, a local gem serving up fresh coffee, hearty breakfasts, and a smile that feels like home. It’s the kind of place where strangers quickly become friends, and the porch chatter flows as easily as the island breeze. From there, hop in your rented golf cart—a must-have on Green Turtle—and let the winding roads lead you to unforgettable experiences.

One of those is  The Tranquil Turtle Beach Bar , nestled at the Bluff House and recently voted #6 out of the Top 25 Beach Bars in the Caribbean. Sip a Goombay Smash, sink your toes in the sand, and soak in panoramic views that feel straight out of a postcard. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a sea turtle gliding through the shallows nearby.

Nature lovers and thrill seekers alike will find joy exploring the island’s surrounding reefs. Snorkeling, diving, and fishing are daily rituals here. Venture out to see the famous swimming pigs, or take a boat to neighboring islands like Treasure Cay, Elbow Cay, or Great Guana Cay—each with their own unique charm and friendly locals ready to share their slice of paradise.

Green Turtle Cay is also a place of resilience. In 2019, Hurricane Dorian struck the Abacos with unimaginable force, leaving behind heartbreak and destruction. But like the sea turtle it’s named after, the island has endured and rebuilt with grace, strength, and the help of a devoted community. Today, you’ll find vibrant color restored to the homes, laughter in the streets, and a deep appreciation for every sunrise.

When it comes to where to stay,  Villa Pasha  is a true standout. Perched on the Atlantic side of the island, this sixbedroom retreat combines Caribbean luxury with barefoot comfort. Its private beach access, wraparound veranda, and ocean views make it the perfect sanctuary after a day of adventure. Whether you’re traveling with family or friends, Villa Pasha offers all the space and style you need to relax and recharge. A few final tips? Bring cash—U.S. dollars spend just like Bahamian dollars. Book your golf cart early (you’ll use it everywhere). And leave your watch behind. Island time is a real thing here— and it’s a gift.

Green Turtle Cay is more than a destination—it’s a feeling. Come for the beaches, the turtles, and the drinks with a view. Stay for the soul of the island that’s as unforgettable as the journey itself.

Escape to Villa Pasha , on Green Turtle Cay, where Caribbean luxury meets barefoot charm. This six-bedroom oceanfront retreat features a wraparound veranda, panoramic views, and direct access to a stunning beach and sea garden reef. With elegant interiors, modern comforts, and island vibes, Villa Pasha (available on VRBO) is the ultimate private getaway for groups craving sun!
