I still know every single word to Apple Bottom Jeans. When “Low” comes on, I revert back to my 20-something-year-old self. So when I found out the guy who takes centerstage on my hype playlist was coming to Chase Field, I knew I had to get him for our cover. Flo Rida graces the front of our annual Art & Style Issue with swagger that gets us all singing. I loved connecting with the artist who, beyond performing post-D-backs game this month, also has entrepreneurial ties to Arizona. This issue is fun. From musicians to artists, fashion insiders to beauty visionaries, this one celebrates expression in every form. We’ve got Ryan-dubbed “Guestlist”- dominating AZ's streetwear culture. I had the pleasure of interviewing him in person... such a nice guy. We’ve got the barber behind the game-day looks of pro athletes. And not to mention Lisa Lisa... '80s icon. Wait until you read the real reason behind her on-stage fashion choices. When I spoke with her, it genuinely hit my heart. Plus, our interview included some nostalgic singing throwbacks, which I’ll never forget. So, speaking of our issue theme... what is style to me? Confidence. It’s the way you carry yourself... your energy, your kindness, your voice. Style isn’t just what you wear, it’s how you show up. It’s your attitude, your values, your light. But truth be told, a discount can still make my day. A few weeks ago, my boys and I were rummaging through a box of my old keepsakes when we came across a local magazine that once dubbed me “Most Fashionable Traffic Anchor.” This was more than ten years ago, back when I worked in TV news (and our salary, BTW, barely paid the bills). I flipped open the spread and laughed, remembering what I said back then: that I’m fairly frugal and am often found scouring sales. Honestly, my shopping habits haven’t really changed. These days, I see style through the eyes of my kids. Each one has their own lane, and I love that. Skater, sporty, surfer... they each show up in their own way. I find joy in encouraging them to express themselves, to feel good in their own skin, and to know that what they wear should reflect who they are, not who they’re trying to be. Here’s to style, stories, and the icons who shape the soundtrack of our lives. NADINE BUBECK, PUBLISHER @ PA R A D I S E VA L L E Y C I T Y L I F E S T Y L E

Your legacy deserves more than luck.
One Lawsuit Could Destroy Everything You've Built Unless You're Structured Right. You’ve worked hard to build wealth. A business, a rental portfolio, retirement assets. But what most people don’t realize is how easily it can all be lost in a single lawsuit or unexpected legal issue. If your investment properties or business are held personally, one slip-and-fall or creditor claim could wipe out your savings and force you to sell. In blended families, second marriages, or complex financial structures, the risk multiplies. We specialize in advanced asset protection strategies that combine LLCs, trusts, and succession planning to keep your assets safe while keeping you in control. Whether you own one property or ten, we’ll help you shield it legally and efficiently.

We chat with Flo Rida before he brings the boots with the fur to Chase Field From Apple Bottom jeans to diamond-certified bangers, Flo Rida brings the swagger, the shine, and the soundtrack to every party. As he gears up to light up Chase Field post-game, we caught up with the hitmaker who made gettin’ low a thing. Here’s pure Flo… style, faith, hustle, and the lyrics that still go off. AS A KID, DID MUSIC FEEL LIKE A DREAM, A PLAN, OR A LONG SHOT? Growing up in Carol City was amazing. We didn’t have much material things, but my single mom and seven sisters had a lot of love. Music and basketball were my early pursuits, but by 15, I was all in with the music, joining a group called the “Ground Hogs.” WHAT WAS ON YOUNG FLO’S PLAYLIST? Nas’ “Illmatic” was the first CD I bought, but being from Miami, you know there was Luke, 2 Live Crew, Poison Clan, Trick and Trina and a lot of Gospel music. DID YOU ALWAYS SEE YOURSELF ON STAGE? My 5th grade speech and debate teacher showed me I had charisma and that I could be a performer. I pursued basketball at the same time through high school. WHAT WAS YOUR BIG BREAK? At 19, I got the opportunity to substitute for “Fresh Kid Ice” of the 2 Live Crew in Hawaii. Shout out to my partner Shot Gun who set me up with the gig. He’s still on the road with me today. WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR MUSIC STILL HITS TODAY? Shout out to Mike Caren, my long-time A&R who steered me into that direction. Growing up in Miami, there’s a gumbo of musical genres- reggae, soca, compa, bass, hip hop, dance music and techno- which just seemed so natural. I didn’t know I could combine those things which were so natural, but Mike Caren said it’s what the rap game was missing. YOUR SONGS ARE STILL PLAYED AT EVERY PARTY, WEDDING, WORKOUT CLASS AND CLUB NIGHT. WHAT GIVES THEM THAT STAYING POWER? It’s celebratory, uptempo, positive good feeling music. Who doesn’t like money, cars, clothes, beautiful women, jewelry and success? As long as people have goals, they’ll be playing my music. I’M 40 AND YOUR STUFF STILL GETS ME HYPED. PLUS, MY KIDS LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC! HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL- HAVING YOUR SONGS STAND THE TEST OF TIME? It feels great. I love the kids, I love parents who expose their kids to my music. So blessed and highly favored. “LOW” HAS NEVER STOPPED TRENDING… DID YOU EVER IMAGINE IT WOULD HAVE THIS SHELF LIFE? Not at all. Over 10 million sold, over a billion streams, and certified Diamond. All Glory to God. DID YOU KNOW APPLE BOTTOM JEANS AND BOOTS WITH THE FUR WOULD GO DOWN IN MUSIC + FASHION HISTORY? AND DO YOU STILL THINK BOOTS WITH THE FUR ARE A FASHION STATEMENT? Well definitely because Nelly was already claiming “Apple Bottom” so we just continued the trend. The Boots with the Fur has a life of its own. CONTINUED >

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU FIRST HEARD ONE OF YOUR SONGS PLAYING IN PUBLIC? I was at “Banana Joes” in Coconut Grove and the DJ played it like ten times back-to-back. I definitely felt like the man. DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE SAME GUY YOU WERE WHEN YOU STARTED, OR HAS FLO RIDA EVOLVED? I’m the same humble guy who puts God first. I have matured in business and in life choices, but I’m basically the same guy. GOTTA ASK… WHERE DID THE FLO RIDA NAME COME FROM? I grew up in the State of “Flo Rida” and folks like the way I flow and the way I ride the beat. YOU’VE ALWAYS HAD THIS LARGER-THAN-LIFE, LUXURYMEETS-PARTY ENERGY. HOW IS THIS A REFLECTION OF YOU OFF-STAGE, TOO? I remember sleeping on floors, couches and working dirty jobs at the MGM Hotel in Vegas picking out silverware from the trash. Once I got on, I promised that it would be beyond first class as long as God enabled me to thrive. HOW HAS YOUR STYLE EVOLVED FROM THOSE EARLY DAYS TO NOW? Early on I repped Florida to the fullest. Over time, my music has taken me around the world and I try not to be so provincial. I understand the import and I try to live up to my image. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR OFF-STAGE VIBE RIGHT NOW… DESIGNER, LAID-BACK, OR A LITTLE OF BOTH? A little of both. I’m always wearing designer, but sometimes I rip the tags off. DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE DESIGNER OR FASHION SPLURGE? You can never go wrong with Gucci. WHAT’S THE MOST FLO RIDA THING HANGING IN YOUR CLOSET RIGHT NOW? I have some Tom Ford jackets which I wear on very special occasions. WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU BEYOND CLOTHES? Style means confidence and how you carry yourself. OUR STYLE ISSUE IS ALL ABOUT CREATIVE EXPRESSION… HOW IMPORTANT IS VISUAL ENERGY? Oh Man, my style is over the top. I love bright colors, high energy, no sleep, loud thumping vibes. IF YOU COULD REMIX ONE OF YOUR OWN SONGS WITH ANY CURRENT ARTIST, WHO’S YOUR DREAM FEATURE? Beyonce remaking “Whistle” or “Low.” CONTINUED >

WHAT’S INSPIRING YOU THESE DAYS… MUSICALLY, VISUALLY, ARTISTICALLY? I would have to say my Label IMG’s artists Oya Babyy, Int’l Nephew and Varie Fresh. IS THERE A CREATIVE LANE THAT YOU’RE ITCHING TO DIVE INTO? Gospel. YOU’RE PERFORMING AT THE D-BACKS GAME… HOW DID THAT COME TOGETHER? My guys at CAA recommend me for all the sports teams. WHAT MADE YOU SAY YES TO THAT STAGE, AND WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOUR PERFORMANCE AT CHASE FIELD? I love sports. When I’m not working, you can usually find me at an arena or a baseball field. The fans can expect high energy and non-stop action. WHO’S YOUR BASEBALL TEAM? The Marlins. WELL MAYBE YOU’LL FORM A SOFT SPOT FOR OUR D-BACKS. :) IF YOU WERE A PLAYER STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE, WHAT WOULD YOUR NON-FLO RIDA WALK-UP SONG BE? “All I do is Win” by DJ Khalid. THE D-BACKS HAVE THIS SNAKESKIN SWAGGER AND ARIZONA EDGE. DOES THAT ENERGY SPEAK TO YOU? Most definitely. YOU’VE PERFORMED IN STADIUMS, AT THE CLUB, ON TV… WHAT’S BEEN THE WILDEST OR SETTING TO PERFORM IN? Maybe a yacht for two people in the Mediterranean. WALK US THROUGH A MEMORABLE MOMENT OF YOUR CAREER. Performing in China to packed crowds of fans who knew my songs word for word but didn’t speak English. By the time I was headed to my 3rd show, I got word that I would be arrested if I took my shirt off because the women were so affected. LOL. YOU’VE ALREADY MADE YOUR MARK. WHAT’S THE NEXT CHAPTER FOR FLO RIDA? Film. YOU’VE CROSSED OVER INTO BRANDING, FITNESS, FASHION… WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST REWARDING BUSINESS MOVE YOU’VE MADE SO FAR? Celsius Energy Drinks. ARE THERE ANY DREAM COLLABS STILL ON YOUR LIST? I’m partners with an Arizona company SoulFast E Bikes. Stay tuned for our upcoming collaboration. CONTINUED >

WHAT’S SOMETHING FANS MIGHT NOT EXPECT ABOUT YOU? I’m the youngest of 8, the only boy, and a twin. DO YOU HAVE A DAILY RITUAL OR MINDSET PRACTICE THAT KEEPS YOU GROUNDED? Prayer, read scripture and workout. WHAT’S YOUR PERSONAL HYPE SONG? “Break Every Chain” by Tasha Cobb. WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER GOTTEN… AND THE HARDEST TO FOLLOW? “Be yourself.” “Everyone can’t come with you.” DECADES FROM NOW, WHAT DO YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SAY WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT FLO RIDA (BECAUSE THEY’LL SURELY STILL BE LISTENING TO YOUR SONGS)? He was a humble guy who loved life, his family, his friends and his fans (whom I refer to as my family). WORKING WITH KE$HA ON “RIGHT ROUND”...DID YOU SENSE SHE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE OFF? Shout out to Ke$ha who is extremely down to earth and talented. I knew she would be a star. ANY DREAM COLLABS STILL ON YOUR LIST? Beyonce, Money Long, 50 Cent, Paul McCartney. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF… THE ONE JUST STARTING OUT IN CAROL CITY? Put God first and don’t let anyone deter you from your dream. Believe in yourself always. DEAR MATCHMAKER by Cat Cantrill
WHEN LOVE BECOMES A LUXURY The Scottsdale Matchmaker’s Signature Style Dating in Paradise Valley has its own rhythm. Life here is beautiful, deliberate; homes are architectural statements, views are curated, and privacy is treasured. But even in a place this extraordinary, love doesn’t just appear between charity galas and golf tournaments. As a Scottsdale native, I see it every day with my clientshigh-achieving, discerning, often private individuals who aren’t interested in swiping through endless profiles or enduring awkward, forced introductions. They want something more intentional, something that matches the life they’ve built. That’s where my matchmaking style comes in. As the founder of a boutique firm, I offer a truly white-glove experience… discreet, selective, and deeply personal. My work isn’t about “ordering” a husband or wife, and it’s certainly not about fast‑food romance. It’s about slowing the process, protecting your time, and making space for genuine connection; the kind that feels aligned, not rushed. Consider it a concierge-level matchmaking: private guidance, carefully curated introductions, and the reassurance that every step reflects the same taste and care you bring to every other part of your life. With every client, I focus on discernment, helping you date with clarity, confidence, and ease. Because in Paradise Valley, success is measured in more than square footage and portfolios… it’s measured in who shares your view of the sunset. Cat Cantrill is The Scottsdale Matchmaker, serving discerning clients across Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, and beyond.

“Being the first and only U.S. Grooming Ambassador for Dior has been a blessing.”
“My first client was one of my best friends Moe. I fell in love with the craft because I loved getting creative with a pair of clippers. I always loved to draw, so this was just another way to use a pencil.” That creativity turned into a career. Back in his second shop in Toronto, Vince hit his first major breakthrough: “I was fully booked for a solid month with people begging to pay more just to get in the chair.” Still, he knew there was more to chase. So he left the familiar behind and moved to LA… “I felt like I reached the top-of-the-top cutting hair in Toronto, so I moved to LA to explore opportunity to really grow.” Grow he did, instantly getting scooped up by NBA royalty. “Scoring a bunch of NBA clients the moment I touched down… I knew the possibilities were endless.” His first A-list client? “Chris Bosh when he was playing on the Raptors. When he got traded to Miami, I ended up moving to LA the same year. I asked Chris to let his people know I was in LA, and if they ever needed a cut, I had them covered.” It worked. Vince’s client list exploded. CONTINUED >

I make them not only look good, but feel good, so they play well. A great cut makes a huge difference in their game play.” Sometimes, the requests get wild. “A client once asked me to write his wife’s name on the back of his head with my trimmers.” Other times, it’s deeper… “It all depends on their mood. We talk about sports, work, family.” That same presence carries over into The ShopLeBron’s hit show on Uninterrupted- where Vince has been a lead barber since day one. “We started before it got picked up by HBO. I’ve been on eight seasons. I was blessed to meet a lot of people I’ve idolized.” Like when icons like Jay-Z and KD are in the room, he soaks it in. “It’s surreal. You get to see them for who they truly are- not as the athlete or rapper. Being part of The Shop makes me feel seen and respected. It shows that my craft is appreciated and supported in more ways than one.” And that support has reached brand name recognition. “Being the first and only U.S. Grooming Ambassador for Dior has been a blessing. I help educate the world on Dior Sauvage Grooming products. I’m involved in marketing strategies, events, popups, and I test out new products before they hit the market.” Vince believes the merge of grooming and fashion isn’t a trend. It’s evolution. “More and more men are taking care of their skin, wardrobe, and style. In fact, I spread this message globally. Traveling around the world to teach has shown me how many barbers love and appreciate the craft just as much as I do. They’re all willing to learn and grow.” That mindset is what sparked BYAPPTONLY, a name that’s now synonymous with exclusivity, precision, and movement. “I wanted the brand to be unique, not barber-related. BYAPPTONLY means being exclusive to your craft.” Vince spent three years designing the barber backpack that’s now standard in the industry. CONTINUED >

“I grew up carrying a case for my clippers and a separate backpack for tools. I thought, why hasn’t anyone created a bag that carries everything? Once we launched it, it changed the way barbers and stylists travel.” Plus, he gives back. Through the Trade-Works Foundation, Vince mentors youth in Jamaica- offering scholarships, skills, and confidence. “It’s rewarding to pay it forward and share knowledge. Teaching others inspires me. You have to believe in yourself and trust the process.” That’s the advice he gives young barbers: “You’ll hit obstacles and fail at times, but you’ll learn and grow. You’ll become a better version of yourself.” Despite the international reach, Vince stays grounded. “My daily routine starts with getting the kids ready, breakfast with the fam, then on with the day. Balancing everything is tough; it’s about prioritizing what matters most in the present.” If he could go back to one moment, it would be his first trip to the Philippines for a seminar. “I wish I could relive that trip with my mom still around so she could see that barbering took me to the Motherland. My dad met me there and showed me where they grew up.” If he wasn’t doing this? “Probably playing Major League Baseball,” he laughs. “I had scholarships but no full rides, and we couldn’t afford it. So I went all-in with barbering, and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s brought me more opportunities than I ever imagined.”

On the List with Ryan of Guestlist AZ Our 1:1 with the guy behind a shopping experience built on limited drops, loyal relationships, and a roster of pros
In a world where fashion, sports, and culture collide, Ryan- founder of Guestlist AZ- stands at the intersection of all three. For 15 years, his boutique has been a hub for sneakerheads, athletes, musicians, and loyal locals alike. But beyond the stacked shelves and rare pieces, there’s a story few have heard. And it starts, like so many great ones do, with a dream. “I always wanted to do this. I’ve always loved clothes and I love shoes combined with sports and culture. Michael Jordan had a huge impact on me with shoes… plus Allen Iverson with his style.” Raised in Arizona, Ryan’s journey began at Foot Locker, where at 16 he took a part-time job that quickly turned into a full-blown education. “I worked myself up from a part-time employee to a store manager. I was willing to scrub the floor and be the hardest worker there. It taught me work ethic. It’s as if I went to college at Foot Locker, learning the business and evolving my passion. Eventually, after becoming a store manager, I was like, I need to go do this for myself.” The hustle he learned there became foundational. “My dad was a hard worker, and it was surely instilled in me, but you either have it or you don’t. Hard work. That’s the key ingredient.” Those early days connected him to local athletes. CONTINUED >

“Shoes were a craze. All the Cardinals players would come in. I’d take their number and help them pull shoes off to the side. They trusted me at a young age and I generated a Rolodex in my phone of cool different people and all walks of life. Athletes, entertainers, regular people, everybody… I would just hand my number out and service everyone at the highest level. It didn’t matter if you had a million or a hundred dollars. I didn’t care. And I still have some of those relationships today.” After mastering the ropes and building a clientele of his own, Ryan sought to make magic happen for himself, launching Guestlist around 2009. “It’s like VIP, you know… like you’re on the list. The new tagline is ‘always invited’ because somehow we always end up invited to all the coolest things. The name Guestlist just made sense to us… it’s a VIP experience.”
36
FASH ION F OR WA R D | S HOPPIN G
Guestlist quickly became a symbol of Arizona streetwear culture. “We sell unique urban apparel. It’s stuff you can wear everyday and then up to a red carpet… brands you can’t easily get. We’ve carried almost a thousand different designers. Little designers that are just starting to majors that have been in the game for 20 years… but just little increments, little pieces, and we don’t overflow it into Arizona. We don’t want you to run into someone wearing the same thing. Super limited.” The exclusivity has made the brand highly desirable. “Some stuff we offer are museum pieces like crazy collectors’ items that are very, very hard to find. We’ve had things worth 10-grand. Sports and culture intersect at the highest level. It’s a fashion show before football, before basketball, before baseball. It’s the walk up.” And Ryan is crushing the walk-up styles among pros. “Someone we style on a daily basis? Mailman, Ish Wainwright. One of my boys.” But his definition of “styling” is rooted in authenticity. “Honestly, they just come to the store and shop. They’ll be like, ‘Yo, I’m in town, I’m going to pull up.’ I’ll make sure that we have some stuff for them based on what they want, and we’ll have it all laid out. Guys will pull up, come shop, and do their thing. It’s great.”
Like when he connected with 50 Cent. “50 was coming into town so we made sure we had stuff ready. He was literally like, ‘I want to wear your brand.’ That’s the cherry on top. It’s the best feeling, because we worked so hard to develop these brands, these styles, and these relationships. And when 50 Cent goes, ‘I only wanna wear your brand,’ then puts it on and wears it to his meet and greet that night, signs autographs, takes photos… that’s amazing.” And the relationship doesn’t stop there. “I have a print shop where we print and manufacture apparel. 50 came and toured it, too. I got a call a week later from one of his guys: ‘50 wants to switch over all his production of his printing to you.’ So we’ve been making 50 Cent G-Unit apparel… tour stuff, website stuff, all that.” Locally, Ryan’s bond with Arizona athletes runs deep. “I’m at all the Suns games. I’m there because I’m a fan and I’m supporting them. And now I have great relationships with them, and we also do print apparel for the team. We make a lot of their customized stuff in the team shop. And sometimes their specialty programs, like a cool charity hoodie for Devin Booker.” Speaking of Booker… “Devin let me borrow a bunch of his PE shoes- player exclusives nobody had seen before- and let me take them into the shop. We transformed my Arizona Mills location into a full-blown Phoenix Suns pop-up. His shoes were on display right in the center, and we brought out The Gorilla, which was big because he doesn’t do many appearances outside the arena. Plus, we sold out of all the special apparel.” CONTINUED >

The same approach worked with Kyler Murray. “Similar to Booker, we transformed the entire store and only put Kyler Murray apparel in the store. And then we had FaZe Clan come in with Kyler, who hung there for two days. It was beyond amazing… the line was wrapped down the whole mall and a bunch of the Cardinals players showed up in support.” Guestlist’s influence continues to grow. “We have a new store in San Francisco called Levels. My partner in that store is Ronnie 2K, with NBA 2K. It’s a threelevel boutique with a speakeasy.” His personal style when it comes to business? Ryan is hands on. Hard working. And a downright nice guy. “I’m in the print shop. I’m at that other store. I fly to the Bay Area. I’m involved in it all. My employees can call me any time, any day. I’m always there for them, and always there for my clients- pros or not. I treat everyone the same.” Even after 15 years, he’s still just getting started. “What’s on tap for the next 15? More collabs. I’m going to deliver some great experiences. I’m going to partner with a few Arizona-based platforms doing big things- like food spots- and, you know, bring the Guestlist more to life.” There’s much more to Ryan’s story… his family, his team, and his philosophy of service. But at the center of it all is one idea: “Everyone’s invited. Always invited.” From Foot Locker floors to exclusive pop-ups and printing deals with G-Unit, Ryan’s story is proof that consistency, hustle, and authenticity will always be in style. Trevar Smooth didn’t move to Phoenix to blend in... he came to shake things up. A multimedia artist, creative director, and founder of the Art Collective Council (ACC), Trevar is leading a cultural uprising in the Valley. With roots in L.A.’s surf, skate, and streetwear
“We’re tackling every avenue of art on display, but always with a purpose.” His signature aesthetic is rebellious, nostalgic, and cinematic. Think neon color pops, iconic figures, and visual storytelling that feels more like a film than a painting. His ICONIC Collection, inspired
“I WANT A MOVEMENT THAT TOUCHES SOULS CREATIVELY.” scene and a creative vision shaped by both West Coast and Miami aesthetics, Trevar arrived in Phoenix and immediately noticed a void. “I went searching for what I had in mind but couldn’t find it. So I went out and created it,” he says. Trevar launched ACC to amplify fashion and contemporary pop-art in Phoenix, a direct response to the recycled cactus and hummingbird visuals dominating galleries and shows. “There was an entire market missing here.” ACC is an exhibit-driven platform with fashion and art at its core fundraising through collectible art, signed items, and immersive fashion shows. The mission is clear: raise money, give back, and build experiences that matter.
by cultural legends like Mike Tyson and Kendrick Lamar, was a breakout hit. “I want a movement that touches souls creatively.” Trevar is more than a painter; he’s a full-scale visual architect. He works across acrylic, spray paint, video production, digital illustration, and fashion design. His creative process is intense and deliberate. “Sometimes I use five different software programs to create a single video. AI is a tool, but everything I make is handmade first.” His debut Valley moment? Showing work at Arizona Fashion Week in 2024 and giving away a painting on stage. That move led to Ryan from Guestlist inviting him to display his ICONIC collection… a domino effect that would eventually lead to Exhibit 1.0, which attracted nearly 500 guests and coverage across major platforms. He’s now Creative Director at fashion label Miratge, curating high-concept shows that fuse streetwear, pop culture, and tech-forward experiences. He also launched the first Art of Fast & Fashion, a multi-brand exhibit hosted at Lapin Motor Co. in partnership with Club Scottsdale, ACC, Arizona Trending, Opulence, and Paradise Valley City Lifestyle. The highnet-worth event saw registered VIPs like Ish Wainright and Reggie Crawford. “All eyes are now on December’s Intergalactic Rockstar, an invite-only show inside a Scottsdale hangar, expected to draw a major turnout. Partners include Ryan (Guestlist) and Blvcksensei.” And there’s more. Trevar is designing a capsule collection for Club Scottsdale titled F1 Signature, a custom collaboration with owner Michael that also features signed Spike Lee art and original Andrew Bernstein photography prints. “We can turn any space into a gallery.” As for what’s on his hopeful horizon? “Art Basel. Paris Fashion Week. I also want ACC to be something we can take anywhere in the world.” He’s not here to follow trends. He’s here to set them. “My goal is to push boundaries and make people feel uncomfortable in a good way. Like when you watch Batman; Gotham is nostalgic, but people love it. That’s the vibe.”

Meet Artist Cyn Silva
When Cyn Silva moved from Northern California’s wine country to the desertscape of Scottsdale, everything changed; her palette, her perspective, and her momentum. “I’ve always been the same artist, but I strive to evolve. I have a new view now, and so many things I want to paint here in Arizona.” Known for bold, expressive work that fuses hyperrealism with abstraction, Cyn defies desert art clichés. Her saturated color choices and fearless compositions give iconic Arizona landscapes a contemporary edge. “I want to strip away the excess and make the work pop.” Her work has caught the eyes of art collectors and celebrities… Mauricio Umansky, Yonder Alonso, Chef Nobu, and Silicon Valley techies. She’s painted giant canvases for luxury estates, created murals for global brands, and filled lobby walls from Scottsdale to Singapore.

“Balancing life as both an artist and businesswoman takes serious intention. Carving out time to create is an act of discipline and devotion.” Her process is instinctive and immersive, anchored by music, daily movement, and early-morning hikes up Camelback Mountain. “Observing is everything. I always see shadows before I see the subject.” Now based in Scottsdale, Cyn paints with full intention and zero hesitation. “I’ve been studying color theory since I was ten. It’s not guesswork; it’s science.” Since moving to Arizona, she’s donated over 20 original pieces to support organizations she deeply believes in, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Fresh Start for Women, Ronald McDonald House, and Arizona Ballet. “If I had millions of dollars to donate, I would; but I don’t, so I gift my art to raise funds for these great causes. It’s a win-win and makes my heart happy.” Here are some of her most cherished pieces.
DANCING IRISES
BLUE VELVET
SPRING TRAINING
A joyful study in movement and light, this piece was born from early morning walks and close observation of blooming irises. “This work connects me to the rhythms of everyday life and reminds me that art is not just grand landscapes, but also the simple, vibrant moments we live through daily.”
An emotional ode to the mountain ranges of the West, Cyn structured this painting with layers of indigo, cobalt, and cerulean. Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, it explores the quiet drama of natural forms. “The ridges and valleys are illuminated by hints of lighter hues, creating a dynamic contrast between shadow and light.”
Created for MLB star Yonder Alonso during his time with the Oakland A’s, this work combines energy and nostalgia, honoring personal pride of a player’s journey. “Commissioned artwork is what I love most about my passion, process and profession.” CONTINUED >

THE PRAYING MONK One of Cyn’s favorite artist memories is delivering a 4x7-foot Camelback Mountain canvas to a luxury estate in Paradise Valley. The commission came through interior designer Kate Longley, and seeing it installed in that stunning golf course home, listed by Scott Grigg of the Altman Brothers, was incredibly rewarding. The owners later commissioned a second piece, The Praying Monk (pictured). “The Praying Monk is deeply personal, reflecting my own journey toward mindfulness and balance. The unique color palette, moving beyond typical desert tones, symbolizes breaking free from expectation and embracing authenticity.”
CAMELBACK NIGHTS A large-scale acrylic commissioned for a luxury Paradise Valley estate, Camelback Nights captures the mountain after dark, where the desert’s stillness meets the pulse of the city. For Cyn, Camelback Nights marks a career milestone. “This piece is meaningful because it represents a turning point in my career, a culmination of technical skill, emotional depth, and the trust of a client who gave me creative freedom. It reminds me of the powerful intersection between place, memory, and imagination.”

ALL CRIED OUT Lisa Lisa tells the story behind the beat... and life behind the spotlight

As the lead singer of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Lisa Lisa delivered era-defining tracks like I Wonder If I Take You Home, Can You Feel the Beat, and All Cried Out. She was one of the first Puerto Rican pop stars to break into the American mainstream. Before freestyle even had a name, Lisa Lisa gave it a voice. When our interview began over Zoom, Lisa Lisa sat in front of a wall of framed records. Before we started recording, I asked her to finish my sentence.
“Can you feel the beat within my...” I started, my bad voice trailing off. “Can you see the love straight through the dark,” she sang without hesitation, smiling. She’s still got it. Still touring. Still performing. And earlier this year, she debuted her Lifetime biopic taking viewers to the very beginning. Lisa Lisa was the youngest of ten, raised in Hell’s Kitchen by a single mother. “My mom played guitar, my dad played timbales. We were raised on the Fania All-Stars, Willie Colón, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Joe Cuba, Motown. If we were doing homework, there was music. If we were cleaning or cooking, there was music. That’s just how it was.” As a kid, she dreamed of making it big. “I used to sneak out and hang around rehearsal studios.” That persistence led to a chance audition when she was just a teenager. “I recorded Take You Home and Can You Feel the Beat in one night. They gave me the lyrics, played the track, and said, ‘Let’s go.’ We did it. That was it.” A few days later, she heard herself on the radio while working at Benetton. “My friend called and said, ‘Girl, turn on the radio.’ I did. They were playing my song. I started jumping up and down and almost got fired.” In that moment, her life changed. “It was everything I dreamed of. And it still is.” Back then, freestyle music wasn’t yet labeled or defined. For Lisa, it was simply the sound of the streets. “It was what the b-boys were dancing to in New York. The linoleum floors, shell-top Adidas, Kangol hats, breakdancing.” But behind the music industry’s bright lights was a different reality. “It was a boys’ club. My band, the producers, the record label... it was all guys. I didn’t feel embraced. I do now, but back then it was always a fight. I just wanted a little freedom to do things my way.”

Touring became her classroom. She shared stages with Smokey Robinson, New Edition, and Milli Vanilli, recalling one wild moment when the group’s equipment malfunctioned on stage. “The machinery broke, and the vocals started looping. They freaked out and started fighting backstage. Kicking their manager. I was just sitting there like, where am I right now?” A treasured memory? When New Kids on the Block opened for her. “Donnie Wahlberg is the sweetest. Back then they were called Nanook. I remember seeing them perform and thinking, wow, these boys are good.” Tour life wasn’t glamorous, but it was unforgettable. “The back of the bus was my bedroom. Tony and I would go back there, close the door, play Jackson 5 cassettes, and sing and dance.” All the while, Lisa was keeping a secret that no one in the audience could see. “I had cancer. I was 20. Ductal carcinoma. And I didn’t tell anyone.” She was on the road with a chemo pack strapped to her body. Little did she know covering it up would become a fashion statement. “I had to hide it. I was afraid it would all be taken away if anyone knew. So I wore tutus and big jackets. There was this big silver-fringe belt I used to wear to cover the pack. A lot of my outfits came from thrift stores. I didn’t think of it as fashion, I just wanted to feel comfortable and hide the chemo packs.” She didn’t even tell her mother until nearly 15 years before her passing. “She was mad and sad and proud all at once. She said, ‘You could’ve told me. I would’ve helped you.’ But I didn’t want to put more on her. She had a lot on her plate.” Lisa says performing saved her, and it still does. “Being on stage helped me survive. It gave me purpose. I kept picturing my mom smiling through her struggles. If she could do it, so could I.” CONTINUED >

Earlier this year, Lisa’s Lifetime biopic debuted thanks to persistent DMs from producer Twinkie Byrd. “She messaged me for five years. Her dad was actually my teacher in high school.” In the film, Lisa plays her own mother. “It was surreal to relive it through her eyes. That opening scene with my father... that was real. He was abusive. I didn’t meet him until I was 13. But my mom... she fought.” And fighting clearly ran in the blood. Fast forward all these years, Lisa has never stopped touring.

“I’ve been performing nearly every weekend for forty years.” She has two sons, both grown now. “I have two men. They didn’t tour with me as babies. My sister Kayla helped me raise them. She’s my best friend. But now, they’ll often come on tour with me.” And just like her upbringing, music is always blaring at home with Lisa. “Even my oldest is self-taught on guitar, cello, and violin. He loves music. He gets it.” And when she’s not performing, she finds joy in the simplest things.
“Being on stage helped me survive. It gave me purpose. I kept picturing my mom smiling through her struggles. If she could do it, so could I.” “I work out. And I do laundry. I love folding. It’s like therapy. I know that sounds crazy, but it calms me.” She still acts, too. “I always wanted to be on Law & Order. Growing up in New York, you’d see the sets and think, I want to be on that. And I did it. I’ve done Off-Broadway, indie films... now we’re producing a tour documentary and the BTS from the biopic.” Her one regret? Turning down a role in Coming to America. “At the time, I was young, married, Latina, and proud. So I said no. Stupid, I know.” Her dream collaboration today? “Bad Bunny. I’m putting it out there. Help me with that.” Lisa Lisa still takes the stage like it’s the only place she’s ever belonged. The fans know every word... not just the originals, but their kids do, too. What started in the streets of New York is now echoing through generations. “I’ve never stopped loving this. I’m still here.” And yes, we can still feel the beat. Amy SAYS A Monthly Fashion Reflection ARTICLE BY AMY YOUNT, AMY/MAN ATELIER PHOTOGRAPHY BY SCOTTSDALE EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY- BARRET ELENGOLD For what feels like forever, we’ve been curating our wardrobes, homes and lives with images we can simply copy and paste. Now AI is at the forefront competing for our attention and leaving us to wonder… is that real? Let’s find our true timeless style and let our obsession with imagery be what it always should have been-our inspiration. Let’s follow less and create our outward identity more. Let’s set trendy aside and focus on our roots with classics through rich textures and colors. Throughout September, our favorite brands are introducing genuine golden hues that more deeply reflect the dandelion yellows we saw for summer. The tone is that time of day when the sun is setting and casts a healthy blond glow over our desert. Fifty shades of reds, light pinks and plums from head to toe collide with a uniqueness I have yet to remember in my 20+ years of buying Fall fashion. For me, it’s an ode to the countless times I’ve excitedly walked into DVF’s iconic Meatpacking boutique and am greeted by her Warhol portraits in the same beautiful bold colors. Traditional olives and light blues pop through nostalgic Glen, Tartan and Windowpane plaid outerwear modernized by cropped silhouettes and clean hardware. Some may think the Royal Family invested in contemporary women’s fashion which I’m not against if Kate Middleton has her hands on the wheel. The skirt is taking center stage helping to show off suede boots of all heights that are fresh, yet oozing with seventies nostalgia. From western to patchwork details, one will never know if they are new or vintage. Fall 2025 is the time for fashion lovers and creators to dig deep, find their irreplaceable self, and stake their authentic claim. Let’s do what Ralph Lauren iconically did and still does... create the life we want to live through our personal style. Amy Yount is the owner of AMY Atelier, a contemporary boutique in Old Town Scottsdale known for its seasonally curated collections.

“MY CLIENTS ARE NOT JUST A SALE. I TAKE PRIDE IN BUILDING REAL RELATIONSHIPS AND OFFERING A SUPPORTIVE, JUDGMENT-FREE EXPERIENCE. ” -LISA MOORE
From a young age, I was captivated by fashion. I’d spend hours flipping through magazines, dreaming of looking like the women on those glossy pages. In the ’90s, I began modeling, where I developed a deep appreciation for wearing beautiful pieces. Later that decade, I transitioned into cosmetics. Over time, my passion evolved; I wanted to do more than enhance faces. I wanted to help women feel confident in their own skin. Today, my business, Lisa Moore Beauty, is dedicated to helping men and women elevate their style and feel confident for any occasion. I offer both in-person and virtual appointments tailored to each client’s needs. I work inside Saks Fifth Avenue at Biltmore Fashion Park and, soon, Neiman Marcus at Scottsdale Fashion Square. My services include personalized styling sessions, gift and special occasion shopping, private shopping events (in-store or on location), closet clean-outs to identify wardrobe gaps, and expert packing assistance for travel. I work by appointment only and value referrals. Before each session, I offer a complimentary phone consultation to understand the client’s style goals, preferences, and needs. Every appointment is personalized... I pre-select pieces in their size, preferred colors, and silhouettes, ready in my private Saks Club Room. For those seeking luxury brands like CHANEL, Dior, Prada, Gucci, Fendi, or Louis Vuitton, I’ll personally source pieces. If we don’t carry a brand in-store, I’ll find a way to get it. My clients are not just a sale. I take pride in building real relationships and offering a supportive, judgment-free experience. Many of my clients are high-profile individuals and celebrities, and I’m always discreet. I’m a strong advocate for body positivity and often work with those experiencing weight fluctuations, hormonal shifts, or career transitions. Everything I do is driven by purpose, especially as a mom to two beautiful daughters, Ashley and Alyssa. I want them to see firsthand that with dedication and determination, anything is possible. My clients inspire me just as much; their loyalty, trust, and support mean the world to me. One style tip I often share: not every trend is meant for everyone, and that’s okay. Trends come and go, but true style is knowing what works best for you and your body. Confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear. My style icons? Audrey Hepburn and Victoria Beckham. Most people don’t know all of the luxury retail services I offer. From sourcing hard-to-find pieces to curating gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays, I can usually track it down. And if I can’t, I’ll find someone who can. IG @Lisamoore_beauty

Founder, Arcadia Sample Sale My first retail job was during college working as a sales associate at Guess in Scottsdale Fashion Square, back when logo baby tees were all the rage. As a broke college student, the employee discounts were a huge draw! After graduating from ASU, I was hired to manage a boutique in Gainey Village. Even with a college degree, I still had no idea what I wanted to do. However, I loved the small, locally owned vibe of that store. From there, I managed other boutiques and learned all aspects of the retail business. Over the years, I had the opportunity to style local celebrities like Brandy (when she was dating a Suns player) and Jenna Jameson during her book tour. We participated in gifting suites for the Super Bowl, did pop-ups at Barrett-Jackson, and took part in many fun community events. Fast forward to now… I founded Arcadia Sample Sale. We host monthly pop-up fashion events sourcing premium women’s contemporary brands at 70–90% off retail (no joke!). Many of our pieces are still available online at full price. And despite the term “sample sale,” we carry sizes XS through XL. Some of the Revolve and Nordstrom brands we’ve featured include Agua Bendita, Mara Hoffman, Retrofête, AMUR, Baobab, Cela B, Montce Swim, and more. We’ve been fortunate to host events at incredible private homes, as well as local businesses that generously open their space for us. We’re beyond grateful for the community’s support, like Katrina Barrett, owner of Walt Danley Local Luxury Christie’s International Real Estate, who offered her esthetic office space for our very first event featuring Mara Hoffman. Changing up our monthly location keeps things fresh, creates a sense of anticipation, and honestly gives the whole thing a party feel. Each event feels like a discovery. It’s a smarter way to shop, scoring major deals on sought-after labels. Between our sample sale events, our day-to-day operations happen out of four large storage units. And for everything that doesn’t sell in person, we host private livestream auctions through our own channel. It’s like modern-day QVC… we buy inventory specifically for those auctions, and our team of livestreamers runs sales five days a week. Our next pop-up is on September 18th! Follow us on IG for the details IG @arcadiasamplesale

“FASHION SHOULD BE FUN AND A REFLECTION OF ONESELF.” -ROBIN GROSSMAN
I’ve always had an eye for fashion for as long as I can remember. I was that kid who cared more about how I looked than my schoolwork. When it was time to study, I was busy planning my outfit for the next day. There’s no specific platform I use for my business… I’ve dabbled in a little bit of everything. I attribute a lot of my success to building relationships with my customers, and that’s been a huge part of growing organically. I love to work with and support local businesses, too. My process is simple: I love what I do, and I love the people I connect with. Most of the time, my clients love my products, from vintage bags to unique jewelry and accessories. I like finding pieces that no one else has. I love to travel and discover items that feel truly one-of-a-kind. Having ADD helps… I can work on five different projects at once. I love to multitask and work best under pressure. My style? Edgy, trendy, and keeping it classy. My style tip? Personal authenticity. Embracing your unique style- rather than conforming to trends or societal expectations- can lead to a more confident and expressive wardrobe. That means choosing pieces that truly resonate with your personality, comfort, and lifestyle… letting your style reflect who you really are. Fashion should be fun and a reflection of oneself. Prioritizing personal taste over fleeting trends can create a more fulfilling and individualistic fashion experience. Trends come and go, but true style is timeless and reflects your unique essence. Style icon? Rachel Zoe (plus I’ve personally met her). Come say hi to me at the Sanctuary boutique… we’re creating something truly special with unique brands, rare finds, and standout pieces. Plus, shop select treasures from my curated vintage collection in-store! Meeting new people and traveling has been instrumental in shaping who I am today. Each encounter and experience has broadened my perspective, challenged my assumptions, and helped me grow both personally and professionally. IG @citytrendshop

A MEXICAN-AMERICAN FAMILY’S LEGACY TAKES ROOT IN ARIZONA... WHERE JOJOBA, GENERATIONAL GRIT, AND HEART COLLIDE. ARTICLE BY NADINE BUBECK Freddie Gutierrez grew up in the dirt. Not in the metaphorical sense, but literally in the fields of southwestern Arizona, in the shadow of a father who never sat still and a mother who poured her soul into every harvest.

His earliest memories aren’t of toys or cartoons. They’re of running water jugs to his siblings while they pulled weeds in the scorching sun, of ducking under the truck for a sliver of shade, and of watching his father build a life out of dust with nothing but bare hands, faith, and fight. “My job was just bringing water,” Freddie says. “That’s what I could do. I was little. But I watched everything. And I knew, even then, this wasn’t just a job. This was our life.”

Before there was a jojoba farm, before there was a business, there was a journey. It started in 1959, when Freddie’s father, Daniel Gutierrez, left Jalisco, Mexico through the temporary worker permit program. He came alone. He worked the cotton fields of Imperial Valley, then citrus fields in Yuma. He returned home briefly, then came back, again and again, driven by the same force that defines the American dream: an unrelenting desire to build something better for his family.
In the late ’70s, jojoba farming was just beginning in Arizona. Daniel got in on the ground floor. No one handed him anything… he learned by watching, doing, breaking, fixing. An Arizonabased jojoba pioneer. “He picked up everything… How to grow it, irrigate it, harvest it. He was a student of the land,” reflects Freddie. Freddie’s beloved mom stood beside her husband the entire way. She wasn’t behind the scenes- she was in the scene. CONTINUED >

“MY MOM WAS OUR BACKBONE. SHE SHOWED US WHAT REAL STRENGTH LOOKS LIKE.” In the field. Picking by hand. Hauling buckets. Fixing lines. Keeping the family fed. Keeping the faith strong. “My mom was our backbone. She didn’t complain. She worked just as hard, and when we came home from school, it wasn’t time to relax… it was time to get in the truck and head to the farm.” There were no shortcuts. No days off. No air conditioning. Just work and the warmth of being together. Freddie and his siblings all had a role… driving tractors, fixing equipment, and working the harvesters.
They’d go from schoolbooks to shovel handles and their mom made sure they never lost sight of why they were doing it: to plant roots for generations to come. “She showed us what real strength looks like.” That kind of love- the kind that suffers quietly and gives endlessly- is the soul of Jalisco Jojoba. You won’t find it on the label. But it’s there, in every drop. “My mom loved her lotions,” Freddie remembers. “She took pride in how she cared for her skin. And when she got sick,

when she was going through chemo, we had to be so careful about what she used. We read every label. That changed everything for me. It made me realize we’re not just selling oil. We’re responsible for what people are putting on their bodies… it had to be clean, and it had to be the best.” That commitment- to purity, honesty, and doing it right- is what makes Jalisco Jojoba different. While Freddie’s mom has since passed, it’s still family-run. Still grown on their Arizona land. Still harvested with care and pressed without chemicals, solvents, or shortcuts. “We don’t bleach the oil, don’t deodorize it, and don’t mask the natural color or scent. What you get is pure jojoba. The real thing. What most people don’t realize? Many of the Valley’s top resort spas are using our Jalisco Jojoba, and we’re expanding availability this fall.” Today, Jalisco Jojoba spans 280 acres of active farmland outside Dateland with new acres being added every year. (Stop by for a tour!) They’re rebuilding their greenhouses from the ground up, raising the next generation of jojoba plants with precision, passion and patience. “It takes five years for a jojoba plant to produce. You don’t do this if you’re looking for a quick return… You do this if you believe in the future.” Freddie now leads the business with his wife and kids, and still sits at the table with his brother, his sister, and his dad. They make decisions as a unit. Marketing, expansion, equipment… everything is
discussed over family dinners, just like it was when they were kids riding home in the back of the pickup. “We do everything as a family. That’s the greatest gift… getting to grow this together.” And growing they are. As they expand their offerings- directto-consumer bottles to wholesale gallons, barrels, and totes for cosmetic companies around the world- Freddie is laser-focused on two things: preserving the integrity of the oil, and honoring the people who made it possible. “I want people to know they’re supporting something real. You’re supporting my mom and dad. You’re supporting a Mexican-American story built from dirt. You’re supporting tradition.” Sure, the business is evolving, but the soul behind it… the hustle, the hands, the boy beneath the truck… remains exactly the same. “We want it to stand for what it always did. Hard work. Dedication. And the best jojoba oil in the world.” jaliscojojoba.com

SYDNEY GOLDSTEIN ON CANCER, COMEBACK, and True Beauty
AN ARCADIA MOM SHARES HER HEART, SOUL, AND STORY PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY SYDNEY G SALON
80
T R E N D SE T T E R | STYL E + BE AU T Y
In honor of Blood Cancer Awareness Month... Before her name was on the door of a thriving Arcadia salon, before her bold brows and signature warmth became a staple in the Valley beauty scene, Sydney Goldstein was just tired. Not the kind of tired you fix with a nap… but the bonedeep, something-isn’t-right kind. “I thought it was just the chaos of everything catching up to me, but then my feet started turning purple. Like, Barney purple,” she says. Sydney laughs now, but it wasn’t funny then. “I was always freezing, my eyes were bloodshot, and I couldn’t shake the exhaustion. I finally got bloodwork and the results came in… and they were devastating.” What followed was a whirlwind. Her legs swelled suddenly, and she was hospitalized for six days. The diagnosis? Polycythemia vera, a rare blood cancer. “At first, no one was sure what was going on. All I knew was that I was in a hospital bed trying to run a salon on my phone.” Her first thought? “Oh my God. Am I going to die? I’d just opened the salon. My kids are still little. Who’s going to go to market and buy the holiday clothes for me to sell?!” And yet, she kept going. Not just physically, but emotionally. “I think I just went numb. My momliterally my savior- stepped in and took over the whole unit. My husband was incredible. I didn’t even realize how sick I was because I was still functioning. Barely. But functioning.” It’s hard to picture Sydney in survival mode. Her energy is infectious, her presence grounding. But she found herself getting blood drawn in rooms filled with chemo patients. “It was intense, but I’m glass-half-full. I’d start talking to people. Connecting. I’d tell them, ‘When you get your hair back, come see me.’ That became my thing. I could still help people… and that helped me.” CONTINUED >

Through it all, Sydney discovered a version of herself she didn’t know existed. “I’m a woman, a mom, a business owner… and now I was a very sick patient. But I stayed calm. I had to. If I freaked out, everyone else would’ve too.” Sydney G Salon opened before the diagnosis. It started as a dream to create a space that felt like getting ready in your best friend’s closet- fun, welcoming, a little bit glam and a lot of real. “I’ve always loved making people feel beautiful. That’s where it started… makeup, hair, clothes, and connection. But after cancer, it changed. I realized this salon wasn’t just about beauty. It was about resilience.” Today, the bout ique-me et s-s a lonmeet s-supp or t-s ystem is thriving. Sydney stained the wood herself. She built the bones of the place. And now, it breathes life into others. “This space is about celebrating who you are in every chapter. Bald, growing back, gray roots, full glam.” She still hears people walk in and say, “Wow, I thought this place would be stuffy, but it’s not.” And she smiles. “That’s the biggest compliment. I’s not superficial. It’s sacred.”
Looking back, a thriver and survivor, cancer changed how Sydney sees beauty. “I used to think it meant polished. Now, it means presence. Strength. I tell my clients, ‘You’re already beautiful; I’m just here to bring it forward.’” Her clients sit down for makeup or brows, but they often leave with something else. “We talk. We cry. We laugh.” In honor of our Style Issue, Sydney shares her favorite fall trends rooted in authenticity, not artifice.
“I used to think beauty meant polished. Now, it means presence and strength.”
HAIR
From textured bobs to bombshell volume, it’s all about wearable drama. “Fall is the season for richness and depth.”
MAKEUP
Some go bold; others want skin that glows. Her one rule? No mismatched foundation. “There’s nothing worse than an orange line on your face.”
— Sydney Goldstein LIFE
“You can go through something life-changing and still show up. Still build. Still laugh. Even on days that don’t feel balanced, you’re still moving forward.” sydneygsalon.com IG @sydneygsalon

When we talk about beauty, the conversation often begins (and ends) with serums and skincare routines. But as a concierge internal medicine physician, I’ve learned that real beauty is built from the inside out. Whether I’m guiding high-performing women in their 30s or vibrant 70-somethings, my focus is always the same: creating sustainable health from within. The glow you see is a reflection of everything your body is doing beneath the surface. Here are 9 things everyone should know about health within.

1. BEYOND STANDARD LABS
Most women know their cholesterol numbers. But the markers that really move the needle on health often go unchecked: • Lp(a): A genetically inherited cholesterol particle that’s an independent risk factor for heart disease- yet not typically tested. • Apolipoprotein B: A better predictor of risk than LDL alone, and another key cardiovascular marker. • Fasting Insulin: Crucial for catching metabolic dysfunction before it shows up elsewhere. If you struggle with weight, energy, or cravings, this test matters. Health Mantra: You can’t supplement your way out of processed food, poor sleep, and chronic stress.

2. SKIN CLUES
When skin looks dull, inflamed, or suddenly problematic, I always look deeper. Internal imbalances like gut dysbiosis or hormonal fluctuations often show up first on the face. Health Mantra: Your skin often speaks first when your body needs attention.
3. INFLAMMATION
Chronic inflammation impacts nearly every system in the body. It causes bloating, joint pain, brain fog, and fatigue; and on the surface, it creates puffiness, dull skin, and early aging. Health Mantra: How you feel and how you look are both shaped by what’s brewing beneath the surface.
4. NUTRITION
Forget quick fixes. My #1 prescription? Real food and sleep. A mostly plant-forward, unprocessed diet with clean proteins, minimal alcohol, and consistent rest creates a visible shift in energy and vitality. I personalize recommendations using both lab results and targeted supplements. I often assess things like vitamin D, magnesium, omega balance, and other micronutrient levels Health Mantra: Nourish your body, and it will show up for you.

5. FATIGUE
Chronic sleep deprivation can spike cortisol, disrupt blood sugar and thyroid hormones, and trigger everything from puffiness to breakouts. Health Mantra: Fatigue isn’t laziness. It’s your body telling the truth. CONTINUED >

6. HORMONES
Your menstrual cycle is more than just a calendar… it’s a vital sign. Painful periods, mood swings, or irregular cycles are early hormone flags. As women transition through perimenopause, those imbalances might evolve into brain fog, sleep disturbances, or anxiety. These are treatable, not inevitable. Health Mantra: Your hormones don’t have to control you if you learn to listen and respond.
“BEAUTY ISN’T SKIN DEEP. IT’S CELLULAR. IT’S HORMONAL. IT’S METABOLIC. AND WHEN YOU START ADDRESSING WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE INSIDE, THE OUTSIDE FOLLOWS MORE VIBRANTLY THAN ANY QUICK FIX EVER COULD.”

7. REDEFINING WHAT AGING WELL MEANS
I have patients in their 70s who are sharper, fitter, and more joyful than people I know in their 30s and 40s. The difference? Daily movement. Smart nutrition. Health Mantra: Aging well isn’t about chasing youth. It’s about building resilience.
8. GUT HEALTH
Gut health is the command center. An imbalanced gut can sabotage everything from hormone health to skin, energy, sleep, and weight. If we can’t find the answer in your bloodwork, I always look to the gut. Advanced stool testing is one of the most illuminating diagnostics I use. Health Mantra: When in doubt, look to the gut… it rarely steers you wrong.
9. A WAKE-UP CALL FOR MEN’S HEALTH
Men often go overlooked in these conversations. But as testosterone gradually dips and stress levels rise, symptoms like low energy, weight gain, irritability, and loss of muscle creep in. And when cortisol stays high, it can make it worse. Health Mantra: Optimal hormones aren’t a luxury- they’re a foundation for strength and confidence. sheridanjamesmd.com

LINKING ORAL HEALTH TO THE HEART, BRAIN, GUT, AND MORE
The Mouth–Body Connection ARTICLE BY DR. ERIKA DU MOND, DMD, DMD DENTAL | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY DR. ERIKA DU MOND

“ T h e o r a l m ic ro b io m e i s t h e g at eway t o t h e g ut . I f it ’s i m b a l a n c e d , you r d i ge s t i ve h e a lt h l i ke l y i s , t o o.”
At DMD Dental, I approach oral health as a window into the whole body, deeply connected to heart health, brain function, gut balance, sleep wellness, and even cancer risk. When you view the mouth as a mirror of systemic health, you stop treating symptoms and start preventing disease. I started my career in finance, but it never fit. My father, a dentist, urged me to pursue something aligned with my love for biology and problem-solving. I have always viewed disease and dysfunction through a cause-and-effect framework, much like solving a puzzle- arranging the pieces and letting one lead to the next until the complete picture emerges. An impactful continuing education course confirmed this perspective. It highlighted how the modern diet has altered both our anatomy and the bacteria in our mouths. The new balance of bacteria is more pathogenic and leads to greater systemic inflammation. Changes in our anatomy have increased our propensity for sleep disturbances causing insufficient levels of oxygen. This disrupts our natural production of Nitric Oxide affecting cardiovascular health. I knew this was the information I wanted to provide to my patients. Here are my core principles of wholistic dentistry and why it’s essential to think beyond the mouth.
INFLAMMATION
Inflammation is the common denominator in almost every systemic illness. The mouth is a major player in that process. When your gums are inflamed- bleeding, sore, or infected- they’re not just reacting to local bacteria. They’re signaling a breakdown in your body’s
immune regulation. Bacteria from infected gums can enter the bloodstream and travel to other organs, promoting inflammation elsewhere. This kind of chronic, low-grade inflammation can impair glucose regulation (complicating diabetes), disrupt vascular health (fueling heart disease), and even compromise brain function. It’s a systemic cascade, and it often starts with something as seemingly minor as bleeding gums.
CANCER RISK
The research linking oral bacteria to cancer is growing. We know that Helicobacter pylori can cause gastric cancer. Now we’re learning that bacteria like Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) and Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn), both common in gum disease, can trigger immune dysregulation and fuel the development of cancers including pancreatic, breast, and colorectal. In one study, patients with antibodies to Pg had greater than two times the risk of developing pancreatic cancer than those who didn’t. Fn, meanwhile, is frequently found around colorectal tumors. These bacteria are actively disrupting cellular function, promoting unchecked growth, and altering cell life cycles. In short, they help create the conditions cancer thrives in.
ALZHEIMER’S
The bacteria we see in periodontal disease don’t stay in the mouth. They travel in the bloodstream and can access the brain. In Alzheimer’s patients, Pg has been identified in brain tissue suggesting these pathogens may play a role in neuroinflammation and cognitive decline. Even symptoms like chronic bad breath or dry mouth point to microbial imbalances that deserve closer attention. CONTINUED >

93
GUT HEALTH
The oral microbiome is the gateway to the gut. If it’s imbalanced, your digestive health likely is too. An unhealthy oral environment affects salivary pH, enzyme production, and the quality of bacteria that travel through your digestive system. That can increase gut permeability (a leaky gut), disrupt nutrient absorption, and trigger an immune response that worsens systemic inflammation. Even seemingly unrelated symptoms- fatigue, bloating, autoimmune issues- can trace back to oral bacteria and inflammation.
CARDIOVASCULAR
Oral bacteria have been directly implicated in cardiovascular disease. When bacteria from gum infections enter the bloodstream, they can lodge in arterial walls, increasing inflammation and promoting plaque formation. This raises the risk of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. Your dentist isn’t just looking at your teeth. They could be spotting early signs of heart trouble.
SLEEP DISTURBANCES
Morning headaches. Dry mouth. Bad breath. Scalloped tongues. Fatigue. These are not small concerns, they’re often early indicators of sleep disturbances or sleep apnea. In kids, it can show up as bedwetting, speech delays, irritability, or night terrors.
94
EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
The adverse effects of sleep apnea are why the condition is considered a public health crisis. 1 in 4 Americans suffer from some form of sleep disturbance and 80% are undiagnosed. Sleep apnea increases all forms of morbidity.
PATHOGEN TESTING
Diet and disruptions in saliva, alter bacteria, and immune function fueling inflammation and chronic disease. Pathogen testing demonstrates the intimate connection between mouth and body taking the concept from correlative to causative, solidifying the importance of oral health care. It allows providers to identify the presence of specific periodontal pathogens, which link to systemic disease.
THE WHOLE-BODY DENTAL PRACTICE
At DMD Dental, we go beyond intelligent materials. Yes, we use BPA-free, bio-stimulatory materials but we also evaluate facial development, airway structure, medical history and periodontal health to determine systemic ramifications. We must stop treating the mouth as separate from the rest of the body. Our initial protocol includes a salivary panel to reveal whether your oral biome is balanced. If it is, great. If not, we follow a structured approach. We may recommend oral probiotics, a tailored rinse, or supplement support. The goal isn’t more products, it is targeted, intelligent intervention. We support the body in restoring itself. Mention PVCL for 20% off your first visit: dmd-dental.com

7 FACIAL PL ASTIC
S u r g e r y Tr e n d s fo r 2 0 2 6 Form, Function, and the Modern Face ARTICLE BY DR. SAM DEVICTOR, MD The world of facial plastic surgery is evolving. Patients today are more informed, more discerning, and more focused on longevity and natural-looking results than ever before. As a Scottsdale-based facial plastic surgeon, I’ve had a front-row seat to the shifting priorities and procedures shaping the future of aesthetic medicine. Here are the top seven facial plastic surgery trends I believe will define 2026.
P re ser vat ion Fac el i f t s
Glow-Up Fac el i f t s
The era of tight, pulled facelifts is over. Today, the preservation facelift leads with refined, natural-looking results. Historically, facelifts involved lifting the skin and the underlying fascia (SMAS layer) separately, then re-draping everything into place. With preservation techniques, we maintain the natural attachments between the skin and fascia by lifting both layers as a single unit. This approach leads to significantly less bruising, less swelling, fewer complications, and, in my opinion, a much more natural result.
Traditionally, facelifts were seen as a way to turn back the clock. But I’ve noticed a major shift. More patients in their 30s to 50s are seeking “glow-up facelifts;” not to look younger, but to enhance features like the jawline, neck, cheekbones, and brow.

R h i nopla st y Trend s M ig ht B ack f i re Rhinoplasty is one of the most trenddriven procedures, and some of the current trends are already showing cracks. Overly pointy tips, dramatically swooped bridges, and “Barbie noses” may be popular right now, but they won’t stand the test of time. These styles tend to age poorly, and worse, they can compromise nasal function. A good rhinoplasty should last a lifetime. Nothing is worth sacrificing your ability to breathe. If you end up with a narrow, non-functional nose, chances are you’ll be back in my office for revision surgery.

Fat G ra f t i ng
Mout h Tapi ng (no t h a n k s)
We’ve seen a 50% increase in fat grafting procedures over the last year, and I expect that number to keep rising in 2026. Fat grafting, or using your own body fat to restore volume, is an excellent alternative to filler. It integrates beautifully, lasts longer, and supports the growing demand for techniques that feel more organic. Filler still has its place, but people are becoming much more thoughtful about where and how it’s used.
Mouth taping is trending, but it often covers up real issues like a deviated septum or undiagnosed sleep apnea, conditions that carry serious health risks and can often be treated surgically. It’s a temporary fix, not a long-term solution. A proper evaluation is always the safer move.
Su rg ic a l Re su lt s St i l l Reig n Supreme
Tra n spa renc y Is Emp ower i ng
There’s no shortage of non-surgical treatments hitting the market… lasers, threads, devices claiming to lift and tighten without a scalpel. Some are helpful, many are overhyped. In my practice, I hear a common story: “I tried everything else, and now I’m ready for surgery.” The truth is, nothing replaces a well-executed surgical outcome. Celebrities have shown us how elegant and natural surgical results can be when done right. While non-invasive options have their place in maintenance, patients are starting to recognize that surgery- done thoughtfully- is the most effective route to the result they actually want.
One of my favorite trends going into 2026? Radical transparency. Patients are more open than ever about the procedures they’re having done. Social media has played a huge role in this, with people sharing their healing process and outcomes in real time. This openness makes aesthetic medicine more approachable, less taboo, and ultimately, more empowering. We’re also seeing a significant rise in male patients seeking procedures, and I believe this is directly tied to the growing culture of honesty and education. I welcome it. The more we talk openly about these things, the better prepared and more confident our patients will be.

5 Minutes With… is a monthly spotlight on the visionaries shaping culture, business, and impact offering candid, story-rich moments that reveal not just what they’ve built, but why it matters. This month, I sit down with Brian David Johnson, a futurist whose work quietly shapes the world most of us haven’t even imagined yet. From advising Fortune 500 giants to conducting top-secret projects for U.S. intelligence agencies, Brian’s career sits at the crossroads of emerging technology, human behavior, and strategic foresight. As Intel’s first Chief Futurist, he didn’t just predict change, he engineered it. Now a professor at ASU and a Fellow at the Institute for the Future, Brian is helping a new generation design a future worth living in... one that protects what matters while pushing boundaries few dare to approach.

BDJ: I would like to talk to the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. What was it like at the very moment when you came up with the model of the universe? What was he doing when the idea first came into his brain? What did he think would be the effect of his new vision?
JM: WHEN IT COMES TO AI, WHAT SHOULD SMART PEOPLE FOCUS ON AND WHAT SHOULD THEY STOP GOOGLING AT 2AM?
BDJ: People should understand that AI is just software. It’s software that is built by humans and trained on data to perform tasks. Don’t imbue it with too much power. Focus on the people or companies that are building it and using it. In the end, the good and bad powers of AI are based on the humans that are using it.

JM: YOU ADVISE LEADERS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. HOW DO YOU GET THEM TO STOP FIREFIGHTING AND START THINKING LIKE FUTURISTS?
BDJ: It’s always different. I am generally brought in to help these people solve problems that others can’t solve - usually having to do with the future. I start by understanding their problems then give them a range of possible and potential futures or threats - then talk about what it means to them and their organizations.
JM: YOU’VE WORKED WITH THE MILITARY, SILICON VALLEY, AND UNNAMED AGENCIES… WHY DOES THREATCASTING AND FUTURES THINKING REALLY MATTER TO YOU?
BDJ: Yes, the work that I do can be dark, but I tell people we have to go into these dark futures so that we can then actively work to prevent them. We have to define the future so that we can defend it. Ultimately, I want to empower people to make their lives and our country safer.

Real Talk from a Life Coach
Q. A.
As I get older, everything seems to be about looking younger, but I already have too much on my plate. I’m stressed, I’m tired, and I simply don’t have time. What can I do?
The most magnetic women I know aren’t chasing who they used to be, they’re fully living who they are now. They’ve learned to follow their soul, trust their heart, and believe in themselves beyond what anyone ever told them they were. They’ve stopped performing. They’ve stopped apologizing. Instead, they’ve filled their lives with people and experiences that nourish them. They’ve let go of the roles and rules that never fit. And in doing so, their presence has become undeniable. Because the real beauty of age is this: you finally realize you were never meant to blend in... you were meant to be unforgettable. Ready to step into the kind of presence that turns heads for all the right reasons? Let’s talk.

As our September Style Issue celebrates bold expressions and curated living, there’s something to be said for restraint; in other words, the quiet clarity that comes from knowing what not to add. That’s the ethos behind High Desert Designs, where owner Chad Norris transforms outdoor spaces with both plants… and presence. “Arizona teaches you to read terrain like a story,” Chad says. “You don’t force things here… the sun, the wind, the grade… they all speak first.” Raised in the world of irrigation and grading, Chad grew up with the fundamentals. But in 2016, while working under another designer, he had a shift: “I started looking at outdoor space more like a canvas. Not just planting a yard, but composing a view. It wasn’t just functional anymore. It was emotional.” That emotion now finds form in everything he touches, from custom hardscape to sculptural plant palettes, but much of it starts in a place few designers have access to… a nursery. “Having our own inventory started as a logistical move. I wanted the freedom to make changes during installation. But over time, it evolved. We began collecting specimen plants, rare sizes, and unique silhouettes. Now, we’re curating a living collection.”

“YOU develop a bond WITH A plant OVER TIME, learning ITS LEAN, COLOR SHIFTS, AND HOW IT dances in the light.” Chad’s nursery is less about abundance, more about intention. Each plant is hand-selected, acclimated, and conditioned for our Arizona climate- a creative lab where instinct meets precision. “There’s a relationship you build with a plant when you’ve watched it grow for years. You understand its lean, its color shift, how it plays in light. That kind of intimacy makes design more instinctive…more sculptural. It stops being plug-and-play.” That sense of sculpture guides Chad’s entire approach, especially in his hardscape work. Don’t expect overdone pavers or generic backyard installs.
110 O UT D OOR LIV IN G | HO ME + D E SIGN
“Hardscape is the structure beneath the softness. It’s not just where you walk, it’s how the space moves, how it breathes, how it frames light and shadow.” To Chad and his team, precision is everything. “Builder-grade hardscape often tries to fill space. Editorial hardscape holds space. It’s the difference between using five materials versus two done right. Flush transitions. Handfinished edges. Shadow reveals that pull your eye instead of competing for it.” Here are Chad’s style tips for what’s in (and out) when it comes to curating a desert-inspired ambiance.
IN:
“Oversized joints and negative space… let the materials breathe.” “Natural materials with patina… reclaimed boulders, weathered steel, hand-finished concrete.” “Integrated, sculptural seating… furniture that’s part of the landscape.”
OUT:
“Over-patterned pavers… they date quickly and fight the architecture.” “Fake turf overuse… there’s a place for it, but not everywhere.” “Over-designed lighting… if you can see the fixture, you’ve already lost the moment.” On a recent Paradise Valley project, Chad rebuilt a once-disconnected backyard into a seamless extension of a modern interior. “We used poured-in-place concrete, steel planters, and floating stair transitions. It reframed the entire home. Like the house finally exhaled into the landscape.” And sometimes the boldest moves come from the nursery itself. In one Scottsdale courtyard, the client expected a classic desert palette. “Instead, we pulled rare columnar cacti, Euphorbia, and a massive aloe. It was architectural, moody, and felt like a living sculpture garden.” And while the design world can be quick to chase trends, Chad’s signature is tied to timeless. “If there is a High Desert look, it’s restraint. Sculptural plants, tonal palettes, negative space used with intention.” That restraint shows up in the final touches… like the oversized Crested Saguaro he’s been growing for years. “It looks like something out of an architectural sketch, completely surreal. I’m still waiting for the right client and the right space.” Until then, it sits in his nursery, styled by time. highdesertdesigns.com

From Fashion to Fixtures... We tapped our friends at Kohler to talk form, function, and what’s hot in design.
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY KOHLER

We love that our metal finishes are timeless, able to seamlessly support a space or make a bold statement.” Known for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in a space, Kohler has shifted to being an innovative leader in personal wellness, from steam and sauna to smart toilets and digital showers. Alex says such in-home luxuries create moments to pause and reset. “Find what works for your lifestyle. Are you craving spa-like features in your bathroom? Do you host a lot and need a large sink? Once you identify your core needs, design around them.” Here are seven standout pieces Alex says is topping luxe-home wishlists as we look ahead into the new year.

Introducing Chef Yulissa Acosta 21 Questions with the Culinary Mastermind Behind Hearth ’61 at Mountain Shadows Resort In true PVCL fashion, we play a monthly game of 21 Questions with an esteemed Valley chef. This round, we caught up with Yulissa Acosta, Chef de Cuisine at Hearth ’61, the signature restaurant at Mountain Shadows. Born in Nogales, Mexico and raised in Phoenix, Yulissa worked her way up from cook to running the kitchen, bringing a bold mix of Southwestern soul and French technique to every plate. 1. WHERE DID YOUR LOVE OF COOKING FIRST SPARK? “Growing up, I watched Lidia Bastianich cook on PBS Saturday mornings, and that’s where there spark started.” 2. WHAT WAS THE FIRST DISH YOU EVER NAILED? “A roasted chicken entrée, which I worked on through Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP) when I was a senior in high school. I participated in the program to help my chances with earning a scholarship.” 3. WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO COMFORT MEAL? “Soups and stews. I love a good Pho.” 4. WHO’S BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MENTOR IN YOUR CULINARY JOURNEY? “I had a great opportunity to work in one of Chef Kevin Binkley’s restaurants, Bink’s Midtown, where I crossed paths with talented chefs including Alfred Muro, which eventually led me to Mountain Shadows. My culinary journey wouldn’t be the same without Chef Muro; he provides knowledge, technique, and a lot of patience every day.” 5. WHAT’S ONE LESSON FROM THE KITCHEN YOU APPLY TO EVERYDAY LIFE? “You can create many things with few items.”

FAVORITE INGREDIENT? “Cilantro. It makes everything better!” 9. LEAST FAVORITE KITCHEN TASK? “Cleaning ovens is tedious.” 10. WHEN YOU’RE NOT IN THE KITCHEN, WHERE ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO BE? “At this point in my life, I enjoy my time at home. However, I love trying new restaurants.” 11. IF YOUR PUG LEO HAD A SIGNATURE DISH, WHAT WOULD IT BE? “A Sunday pot roast.” 12. WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU? “My music preferences. I dabble in all genres, but my all-time favorites are Avenged Sevenfold and Slipknot.”
13. GUILTY PLEASURE SNACK? “Gummy bears with hot sauce and lime juice.” 14. WHAT’S THE VIBE OF YOUR IDEAL DINNER PARTY? “A ‘Shrek in the Springtime’ vibe.” 15. WHAT MAKES HEARTH ’61’S MENU UNIQUE? “We’re inspired by worldwide cuisines, and we try to implement them into our menu with ingredients that complement each other, are seasonal, and locally sourced. I describe our restaurant as modern American because we still maintain classics, but we amplify them with different techniques and flavors. We also take pride in curating specials almost every day where we feature different cuts of meat, fish, or veggies.” 17. FAVORITE DISH ON THE CURRENT MENU? “I love our Half Chicken Roulade. It’s different from other chicken dishes but still has familiar flavors for someone who might be skeptical.” 18. WHAT CULINARY TRENDS GET YOU EXCITED? “I’m a big fan of matcha.” 19. A four-day escape where culture runs deep and ever y sunset ends with a dive
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY SHERATON MAUI RESORT

Perched atop Pu‘u Keka‘a - better known as Black Rock, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa isn’t just a beachfront resort. It’s where the Ka‘anapali story began. Open since 1963, Sheraton Maui Resort is a legacy property built into a sacred lava outcropping once used by Maui’s last chief to demonstrate spiritual strength through cliff diving.
The property was built into a sacred lava outcropping once used by Maui’s last chief to demonstrate spiritual strength through cliff diving. Today, that tradition still lives on every night at sunset, when a torchbearer climbs the rocky promontory, offers a prayer, and dives into the Pacific… just as the legend tells. It’s part ceremony, part spectacle, and entirely unforgettable. But there’s more to Sheraton Maui Resort than tradition. It’s the rare kind of place that marries cultural depth with elevated family-friendly fun, all wrapped up in 23 acres of oceanfront views, open-air energy, and island soul. Here’s how to spend four unforgettable days soaking it all in.
DAY ONE
Check-in is breezy and welcoming, complete with island florals and panoramic views. Families will appreciate receiving a keepsake portrait embedded with a QR code, part of the resort’s Kuleana Series.
It unlocks a cultural scavenger hunt of sorts, leading kids (and curious adults) around the resort to discover animated storytellers and scientific experts sharing wisdom about native plants, solar astronomy, and the meaning of aloha. By late afternoon, live poolside music sets the tone as families float in and out of the thoughtfully designed pool area. While the lazy river offers a gentle loop with shaded nooks and a family-friendly slide that earns plenty of repeat runs. As golden hour sets in, snag a view of Black Rock for the nightly lele kawa ritual. Torches are lit one by one, and a young diver - symbolizing Chief Kahekili - leaps from the lava rock into the sea in a display of strength, honor, and tradition. It’s not a performance; it’s a pause-worthy moment of reverence that has taken place here every night for more than 60 years. CONTINUED >

For dinner, Teppan-yaki Dan brings the energy inside, where talented chefs grill lobster, steak, and garlic fried rice with a flourish of flames and knife tricks. The experience is equal parts delicious and theatrical, especially fun for kids who’ve never witnessed an onion volcano. Wrap up your first night fireside, where locally inspired s’mores kits await, complete with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, macadamia nuts, shredded coconut, and rainbow sprinkles. (The kids will think it’s magic. You’ll think it’s genius.)
DAY TWO
Wake up to island breezes in a spacious Ohana Suite ideal for families. For couples, the Moana Oceanfront building offers elevated accommodations with views of blue sky and blue sea. Breakfast at Coral Reef is equal parts fresh and scenic - the restaurant offers buffet favorites alongside tropical fruits and made-to-order options. Little ones can feed the koi by the pond while parents map out the day. The resort’s biggest backyard flex? Black Rock. One of the best snorkeling spots on Maui, this lava outcrop offers reef-lined waters, clear visibility, and gentle surf, especially in the morning. Snorkel gear is available onsite, and sightings include tropical fish, sea turtles, and the occasional Hawaiian monk seal. For many, it’s the highlight of their stay. Make sure to book dinner with a show. Maui Nui Luau takes place right on the beach… leis, hula, fire dancing, mai tais and an open-air buffet of Hawaiian classics. It’s a full-sensory deep dive into Polynesian storytelling and island hospitality, perfect for all ages.

A Life Well-Lived, A Life Well-Cared For For Those Who Expect Continuity, Dignity & High-Touch Support “Healthy aging isn’t just about adding years to your life; it’s about adding life to your years. It’s about maintaining your independence, your passions, and your quality of life. Exceptional home care is one of the keys to unlocking this potential.”
DAY THREE
Join a complimentary yoga session on the Anuenue Lawn or take a walk along the beach, toes in the sand and coffee in hand. Cultural experiences continue throughout the day. Learn to make an orchid lei in the lobby, practice a few Hawaiian phrases at the Shaka Shack, or pop by for the Meet the Artist series, which features local artists from Lahaina’s displaced art scene, a moving tribute to Maui’s enduring creative spirit. Today, your poolside cabana is your sanctuary. Savor endless hand-delivered poke bowls and daiquiris. For dinner, head toThe Sandbar, the breezy lobby bar that serves standout sushi, fresh ceviches, and one of the best trio poke samplers on the island. Time it right, and you’ll catch sunset. Round out the evening with the seasonal Legends of Hawai‘i, a twilight storytelling circle by the koi pond where firelight flickers and ancient tales come to life. It’s a grounding way to close the day and connect to something deeper.
