All you need is love Please don't tell my husband I used one of our wedding photos as this month's image, but I couldn't resist. We were married in the heart of McCormick Ranch on the first golf course my husband played with his late father. With Camelback Mountain in the distance, we were surrounded by the golf green, palm trees, and overlooking a lake (I was adamant about marrying near a body of water). It's our Local Love issue, so I thought it fitting to pay a little ode to our wedding day. I walked down the aisle to The Beatles' "In My Life" and we addressed the crowd as a married couple to "All You Need Is Love." Our first song was carefully choreographed to Rod Stewart's "Long Ago and Far Away," and we ended the night kissing under fireworks. In this issue, I had the privilege and pleasure of chatting with PV's golden couple, Michael and Nicole Phelps, learning about their lessons of life and love. (I also got the deets on their wedding song and pet names.) As a boy mom myself, it was fun hanging with their posse of sons during our exclusive photoshoot, and I wish the dynamic duo the very best as they welcome baby boy #4. Also in this issue, we celebrate esteemed Valley couples ranging an Arizona Coyote, former NFL player, restauranteur and famed radio host getting the scoop on their secrets to marital bliss. I hope you enjoy their love stories! After reading this issue, I reflect on my relationship with Nate, going on being married 12 years. He's my best friend, my rock, a solid father and supportive husband. Like any couple, we have our challenges, but there's nothing we can't overcome as long as we're together. We both value making memories over monetary, instilling in our kids travel and adventure. We both value prioritizing our family unit first. We both value open communication- which can be hard at times- and learning to forgive easy. We both value laughter, having fun, and enjoying our journey; where we've been, where we're at, and where we're going... because in the end, all you need is love. As for our Valentine's Day, ours will likely be spent in sweats with our kids over a home-cooked heart-shaped pizza, vino, and falling asleep mid-movie. And now the dynamic duo are embarking on a new chapter: growing their nonprofit and their family by welcoming baby boy #4. Our owner/publisher Nadine Bubeck scored an exclusive sit-down with Michael and Nicole Phelps chatting about all things life, love, and living in the Valley. CONGRATS ON THE BABY NEWS! HOW ARE YOU FEELING? A bit scared but only because we witness the everyday craziness of having three boys seven and under- and we’re adding another to the mix... wild! AS BLESSED BOY PARENTS, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT HAVING SONS? We’re lucky to have the gift of boys. Society focuses on what women should do for their daughters, but we must also foster our sons and ensure they respect themselves, each other, and women. As for our guys, Boomer is a daddy’s boy, Beckett is all about mommy, and Maverick is a cuddle bug. We look forward to seeing what #4 is like. WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL DATE? He makes a great chicken parmesan. You can often spot him roaming the aisles at AJs. WHEN ARE YOU THE HAPPIEST? We’re homebodies by nature. Home with our family is our happy place. YOU’RE BOTH PASSIONATE ABOUT SUPPORTING THOSE STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL HEALTH. CAN YOU PROVIDE INSIGHT INTO YOUR MISSION? We use our mental health experiences to help others. We did a series called Raising Resilient Kids with Nemours Children’s Health talking with psychologists about common parenting struggles. We also have a social-emotional program for Special Olympic athletes and Boys & Girls Clubs members. It’s incredible to see the impact, especially as our nation’s kids recover from the isolation of covid. AS A BUSY MOM, HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, LIFE, YOUR RELATIONSHIP AND KIDS? We originally wanted three kids, but life has a way of presenting moments that make us pause, recognize and reassess. We must be flexible and adapt to unexpected life occurrences. We do our best to maintain a sense of normalcy and balance; Michael brings the kids to school in the morning and I pick them up. We prioritize each other and keep our work life separate from our family time. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A TYPICAL SATURDAY “AT HOME WITH THE PHELPS?” Saturdays are kid-focused and soccer-centric so it’s all about the game-day shuffle. We also enjoy spending time in our backyard together. NICOLE, DESCRIBE MICHAEL IN 3 WORDS. Determined, caring, and big-hearted. People don’t often see Michael’s heart because he’s an insane competitor, but truly, it’s made of gold. MICHAEL, DESCRIBE NICOLE IN 3 WORDS. Passionate, big-hearted, loving and patient. WHAT WAS YOUR WEDDING SONG? “Die a Happy Man,” by Thomas Rhett. ANY PET NAMES FOR ONE ANOTHER? I call Michael “Fluffy” because he called me that a long time ago so I flipped the pet name on him. AND FINALLY… DO YOU EVER RACE IN THE POOL? I’ve attempted, but Michael physically can’t swim at my fastest pace. It’s hard to recognize what Michael has accomplished; in fact, I still read facts about his legacy being the greatest Olympian of all time. Even now, I can’t process what he’s achieved, because to me, he will always be just Michael. Time to sell? Tax loss harvesting is a technical term for selling positions in a portfolio that incurred a loss prior to year-end. This is only appropriate in your non-retirement accounts such as your individual, joint or trust accounts. Doing this allows investors to offset gains realized earlier in the year against losses, prior to year-end. Remember, if a holding is sold at a loss, it cannot be repurchased within a 30-day period.
Should I convert my traditional IRA to a Roth IRA? A Roth conversion is where funds are transferred from a pretax individual retirement account (IRA) to an after-tax Roth IRA, increasing taxable income. This begs the question: why would anyone do this? Well, a Roth conversion could make sense if the market experiences a significant decline and there’s a strong conviction in its eventual recovery.
What about charitable contributions? For investors that have attained the age where a required minimum distribution from an IRA account is required, you can make the distribution tax free. If the funds are sent directly from the account to a qualifying organization, the distribution is not included as taxable income. Dubbed the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), this lets taxpayers donate to charity and benefit by not including the distribution as income. Arizonans can also contribute to certain in-state organizations and receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.
Where should I invest to save on taxes? Contributions to tax deferred accounts allow taxpayers to reduce their current year liability and defer income to a later date. Bat Cave, Phoenix
Though we’re not talking about Batman’s lair, we are referring to a flood control tunnel that’s been famous for its bat spectacle for quite some time. Located on E. Colter Street, AZ’s dubbed “Bat Cave” has become the summer home for thousands of Mexican Bats migrating south. During the day, they hang in the darkness hidden from view, but as the sun sets, they emerge and fill the sky. Best viewed in the summer, they can also be spotted in March.

Hall Of Flame Fire Museum, Phoenix Hall Of Flame Fire Museum
Arizona is home to the world’s largest historical firefighting museum. The Hall of Flame Fire Museum flaunts a vast collection of firefighting mementos from over the years, like helmets and equipment dating back to the early 1700s. Ideal for families, there are plenty of exhibits, displays, and odes honoring firefighters and their services.

Since the 1880s, this man-made waterfall has been a desert novelty and popular Instagram-worthy attraction. Located on E.
