THE DRAW OF STUNNING SCENERY AND MAJESTIC NATURAL THERMAL WATERS

JUST OVER AN HOUR’S DRIVE FROM PHOENIX IS A LITERAL OASIS IN THE DESERT. Stunning scenery, ample activities, and mouthwatering dining options are part of the package—but perhaps the biggest draw is the resort’s ancient natural hot springs and their mineral-rich waters, revered for centuries for their purported healing power. The geothermal features act like natural hot tubs, and have drawn everyone from Native American tribes who journeyed to the springs for medicinal purposes, to frontier ranchers and explorers, and later, to celebrities and dignitaries. “The waters at Castle Hot Springs paint the land with a spectrum of hues reflective of the minerals running through them,” says General Manager Kevin Maguire. “Lithium bears a deep purple shade, while iron evokes rusty red and oxidized copper merges into blues and greens. ailments such as rheumatism, gout, arthritis, plus general aches and pains were alleviated by soaking in the three pools cascading into various temperatures—all initiating from the springs.” First built in 1896, the historic Castle Hot Springs destination, which sits on 1,100 acres in the Sonoran Desert and is nestled against the majestic Bradshaw Mountains,

underwent

reconstruc-

tion and development in 2019, though always honoring the legacy of the property. Dedicated to wellness, it provides the perfect destination for guests to recharge while connecting with nature—its very design creates a feeling of being far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; of stepping back in time to when time moved more slowly and moments were appreciated. There are just 34 rooms at the resort, and the accommodations were built to immerse guests with the environment at every opportunity. The Sky View Cabins are positioned for stargazing, while the Spring Bungalows feature private fireplaces, as well as outdoor tubs. And yes, the tubs source mineral water directly from the springs. Since the resort employs a “digital detox” approach—where guests are encouraged to unplug from the stresses of daily life and connect with nature and recharge—none of the rooms’ furnishings include televisions, but instead, shelves of books.

GROWING UP IN PHOENIX, SHANNON HARRIS ALWAYS PLANNED ON GOING TO MEDICAL SCHOOL. After doing an internship, she realized she wanted a different path. “It was too linear for me,” laughs Harris. Instead, she discovered a love of design. “I can still be creative,” she explains, “but there is a mathematical side of things.”

“I quickly realized I couldn’t keep working at the design firm and build five homes,” she says. Harris quit her job and founded Fuse Living in 2012. “All of our homes are LEED-certified, ensure the best air quality, and are sustainable.” Along with new construction, Fuse Living is a Certified Green Interior Design Firm, granted through the Sustainable Furnishings

“LOOKING EVERY BIT A CONCEPT CAR BROUGHT TO REALITY, THE 2022 AUDI E-TRON GT IS A DYNAMIC WORK OF ART. Long, low, wide, and exhilarating, it is a grand turismo that further expands Audi’s prominent role in electric mobility,” Audi says. Expected to be available this summer, the 2022 Audi e-tron GT offers an exhilarating look. “Aesthetics arise from efficiency; an inverted Singleframe grille reinterprets honeycomb design elements, distinctive quattro blisters above each wheel, and a flat greenhouse with sloping roofline define e-tron GT design. Coupled with radiator and brake duct air inlets that can close when not needed to optimize aerodynamics, drag coefficient is a low 0.24, helping the e-tron GT move with efficiency in complement with its velocity,” the company says. Like all Audi e-tron GT models, there is a 93.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and the automobile can charge at 270kw using DC fast-chargers, allowing it to replenish the battery from 5%-80% in 22.5 minutes. A full charge lasts approximately 238 miles. The GT’s interior is made of leather-free, recycled materials, though Napa leather is also available. AudiUSA.com CityLifestyle.com/ParadiseValley

DIY

Benefits of a

chemical-free home

HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO TURN YOUR HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL-FREE? It's not as hard as you might think! We hear a lot about the dangers of chemical ingredients, but it's easy to ignore all of the warnings and keep using our favorite products. When you don't know of a better alternative, it's just what you do! However, all of those ingredients add up and can make a big difference in your health, as well as the health of your family and pets. The products that are most important to swap out depend on your lifestyle and what you use the most. If your little ones are eating food right off of the counter, you might consider the ingredients from the cleaner you just used to wipe it down and start by switching to a natural method.

ARTICLE HAYLEY HYER

If you have sensitive skin, you might start by taking inventory of your beauty and personal care products to see what you can replace. To get you started, here is a DIY product that you can make yourself for your chemical-free home.

DIY Laundry Scent Enhancer If you have ever added those popular scent beads to your load of laundry before, you know how lovely it is to pull your amazingly scented clothes out of the dryer. The funny thing about a product like that is it truly has no purpose other than adding a good smell, but it does add lots of chemicals to your daily life! There's a safer and more beneficial way to make your clothes smell heavenly. Try this DIY scent enhancer with your next load of laundry and put it to the test.

Ingredients 3 parts Epsom Salt + 1 part Baking Soda + Essential Oils

Directions Mix your ingredients together in a jar or canister and scoop about ¼ cup directly into the washer basin before adding the clothes—just like you would with scented beads. Continue with your laundry like normal.

For more information on starting a chemical-free household, you can browse online resources such as ChemFreeCom.com or find a social media group to join with likeminded people who have some experience from their own trial and error. If you get overwhelmed, remember that you don't have to get rid of all chemicals in one day. Every swap you make is something to celebrate!

LOCALLY OWNED PUTTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH FIRST FUELS ORGANIC CLEANERS’ MISSION

GR E E N C LE A N I N G WHEN SAM KANABAR SAYS HE WAS BORN INTO THE DRY CLEANING BUSINESS, HE’S NOT BEING ENTIRELY METAPHORIC. Kanabar’s family moved to Arizona from South Africa in 1981, and his father purchased the first of what would be several dry cleaning locations throughout the Valley. They lived in the apartment above it. A year later, Kanabar came into the world. “I was born into the business. And I grew up in the business,” the owner of Organic Cleaners says. So it wasn’t a surprise when, in 2002, a year after graduating from high school and while he was running his father’s locations, Kanabar opened the first of his two shops. His business’ name reflects the concept initiated since day one: provide a necessary service
