Here in Papillion, we have a style. Our style is family and community. Our style is local and friendly. Our style is small-town vibes with big-city amenities. Our style is special, and that is why we love to call Papillion home!

We all have our own individual style as well. Our style is not limited to the clothes we wear or how we carry ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From how we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to how we prepare our food, style plays a key role. Style is how we paint our entire picture. It is the individual masterpiece of who we are!
Style can also change over time as we embrace our uniqueness, passions, and desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we view the world, and what we value. As individuals, we can follow established styles, blend them, or even become trendsetters ourselves.
In this issue, we are telling stories about individuals and businesses who are trendsetters. Those who don’t just fall in line, but instead push the line forward and bring others with them as they go.
We hope this issue helps you to embrace your style and ignite your creativity. Because in the end, the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Here’s to living September in style, Papillion!

KELLY ROCHA, OWNER OF TRULY U CUSTOM BRA BOUTIQUE, ANSWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF A PROPERLY FITTED BRA FOR A WOMAN’S OVERALL HEALTH
Kelly Rocha, the owner of Truly U custom bra boutique in La Vista, had frequented Petticoat Faire, a similar bra boutique in Austin, Texas, for ten years. Upon moving to Omaha, she found that this particular service was absent in our community. Rocha says, “Despite various recommended options, nothing matched the professional fitting experience I was accustomed to.” For a decade, she would drive to Kansas City for a custom bra fitting, until “finally, armed with the knowledge and courage gained over time, I decided to open my own store.” Rocha shares what makes Truly U unique and the importance of a good-fitting bra.
Wearing the wrong bra size can lead to health issues such as back pain, shoulder pain, and even skin irritation.
The Truly U experience is centered around personalized care and expertise in bra fitting. We first educate our customers on the essentials of a proper bra fit, ensuring they understand the importance of comfort and support. Our trained staff, equipped with extensive bra certifications and hours of fit training, carefully assess a customer’s needs and any specific concerns they may have. With meticulous attention to detail, we select bras designed to fit each customer’s unique body frames and lifestyle preferences.
Knowing the correct size when selecting a bra is crucial for several reasons:
1. Comfort and Support: Many customers come to us experiencing discomfort from ill-fitting bras, such as straps digging into shoulders or bands riding up. After a personalized fitting session and selecting bras with proper support, they report feeling significantly more comfortable throughout the day.
2. Health: Wearing the wrong bra size can lead to health issues such as back pain, shoulder pain, and even skin irritation. Proper support distributes the weight of the breasts more evenly, reducing strain on the body. A well-fitted bra helps maintain breast health by providing adequate support.

3. Appearance: The right size bra enhances your natural shape and silhouette, improving the overall look of your clothing. It ensures a smooth fit under clothing, preventing bulges or gaps.
4. Enhanced Confidence: Customers express newfound confidence after finding bras that fit them perfectly. A good-fitting bra allows comfortable movement without worrying about discomfort or constant adjustments.
5. Longevity: Bras that fit properly tend to last longer because they are less likely to stretch out or become misshapen over time.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BRA THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND TO YOUR CUSTOMERS?
One of my top picks for everyday wear is the Cassiopee bra. It’s seamless, incredibly comfortable, and gives me a beautiful, confident feeling whenever I wear it!
WHAT SHOULD OUR COMMUNITY KNOW ABOUT YOU AS A LOCAL SMALL-BUSINESS OWNER?
Shopping local is special for me, and not just because I own a small business. While online shopping offers convenience, investing your dollars locally means those funds directly support our community—whether it’s our local sports teams or other families in need. This year, my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, adding a personal dimension to our mission of assisting women facing breast cancer. Experiencing firsthand the challenges of supporting a family through such a tough diagnosis has been incredibly difficult. However, the unwavering support of our community has made this journey more bearable than we could have imagined. The local businesses and individuals who have rallied around us have shown the true power of community, providing us with strength, hope, and comfort during this challenging time.

“It’s neat to be a part of a small business in Papillion that can give back to the community.”
Local high school seniors have a chance to ease their college financial burden thanks to a unique partnership between Midlands Place businesses and the Papillion-La Vista Community Schools (PLCS) Foundation, which continues the tradition of the Midlands Place Scholarship.
"The scholarship is a constructive way for the merchants to see the value of our local school system," says Russ Daub, developer of the multi-building shopping center on 84th Street and Highway 370, "which is excellent for Papillion and La Vista."
Each Midlands Place tenant can donate $1,000, which the foundation matches. This provides two $1,000 scholarship opportunities, one for a Monarch grad and one for a Titan grad.
"It's neat to be a part of a small business in Papillion that can give back to the community," says Diane Heyne, Marketing Director for Midlands Place.
Heyne explains that being a senior at either high school is the only requirement for applying, with the specifications depending on the merchant. For instance, one tenant may offer a scholarship for a twoyear degree and another for a four-year degree.
The process also requires a one-page essay. Past examples of prompts include asking applicants to pick a quote and describing how they relate to it. Others may cover topics such as sharing past service projects or overcoming hardships.
Interested seniors can find more information through their high school scholarship secretaries and senior bulletins or by visiting the events page of midlandsplace.com. This year's application deadline is November 29, and hundreds of students typically apply.
After applying, each merchant will select its recipients, who will be celebrated in May 2025 at a brunch event. The event will include the mayors of
both cities, key staff members of the Papillion-La Vista Community Schools, and members of the PLCS Foundation. Scholarship winners will receive a certificate, and funds from the scholarship will be sent directly to the college or university they will attend.
Speaking on behalf of the PLCS Foundation, Executive Director Lee Denker calls the partnership unique because of the number of graduating seniors served.
"They are investing in our community's future by helping many Monarch and Titan grads with the high cost of education," Denker says. "It is terrific what Russ Daub and the Midlands Place businesses are doing to help our graduates follow their educational dreams. I'm so thankful they've partnered with the PLCS Foundation."
Heyne shares they have commitments from businesses such as Mathnasium, Spin Pizza, Vision Specialists, Sport Clips, and Incontro Closets. Combining those with commitments from Midlands Place, Diversified Properties, and Russ Daub himself allows them to impact more students in the community. "Normally, we have around $18,000 in scholarships to give away," she says.
"There are two or three tenants in there that have been backers of the scholarships since the beginning," says Daub. "The tenants understand it's the school system and families that create a good reputation for Papillion, which is a heck of a place for families to grow up."
Daub says that the continued partnership and opportunities for students personally make him proud and thankful for the merchants of Midlands Place.
"I've got a lot of tenants recognizing how valuable it is,” Daub says. “That’s gratifying to me because, without the tenants, we couldn’t do this.”

Taylor Rice focuses on designing beautiful spaces that compliment personality
ARTICLE BY AMY HENDRICKSON AND TAYLOR RICE PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOSEPH SAAID

Mysa Design Group is a local interior design firm that specializes in residential renovations, new construction homes, and home furnishing projects. Owner Taylor Rice has a mission to bring classic, natural, and sustainable design to homes, creating environments that reflect the unique personality of her clients, while also nurturing our planet. Rice's personality is reflected in the design style she chose in building her own home alongside her husband. Here Rice explains the choices she made while designing her home.

I chose cedar siding as it is durable, naturally beautiful, and environmentally friendly with a resistance to moisture and decay.
Floating shelves are a beautiful way to display plants, cookbooks, and decor. I especially love to switch decor based on the season.
The most important part of designing our kitchen was to ensure it felt warm, inviting, and timeless. The best way to achieve this was to bring the outdoors in. I opted for a honed, matte finish on the countertops instead of polished. The backsplash is wood instead of tile. The cabinets are an earthy, calming color.

A piece like this adds character and is unbeatable by any shiny, new object. Whether vintage or passed down, I like to incorporate unique items into my projects. I have many pieces and art from my grandparents that will always remind me of them. This is one of many ways a home can tell a story of those who live within it.
While most of the design choices leaned towards the modern, Scandinavian style, I opted for a classic touch with the faucet and apron front sink. The contrast of the polished nickel finish against the wood backsplash makes it even more of a statement piece.
I wanted the range hood to be a standout feature and add texture to the kitchen, but without a heavy contrast. Installing a tambour wood while maintaining the stain color was the winning combination. It’s just as much a conversation piece as it is part of the background.

Metro West has a style of their own when it comes to airway focused orthodontia
ARTICLE BY VINCE MANCUSO PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMMIE RODRIGUEZ
While most would assume that orthodontics revolves around braces to help straighten teeth, Metro West Orthodontics is taking a new, comprehensive approach that goes beyond aesthetics to focus on patients’ overall health and well-being.

“We want to highlight and spread awareness to the community about the importance of the airway, the impact on facial development, and quality of sleep,” says Kanoe Sakamoto, Director of Business Development.
Sakamoto explains that the focus on the airway is growing in the health and medical field, even in dentistry. This focus is bringing awareness to the whole body, considering how care of one part impacts all health. This is done through an airway evaluation, which sees how air moves from the nose to the back of the throat and down to the lungs and how these parts work together.
Metro West Orthodontics can accomplish this by using the most up-to-date technology and the efforts of Dr. Taera Kim, a leading expert on airway focused orthodontia.
“The thing about traditional orthodontics is it was all about how the public perceives it. Get straight teeth, get a beautiful smile,” Dr. Kim says. “We are trying to bring awareness of prioritizing the significance of the airway and its profound influence on health and development.”
A sleep disorder can cause a person’s breathing to stop or become shallow while sleeping, which can cause several issues, especially in children. Symptoms of pediatric sleep disorders, such as hyperactivity, are often overlooked or misdiagnosed as ADHD. By identifying these issues early, Metro West can provide less invasive treatments that take advantage of a child’s natural growth potential.
Dr. Kim says, “The first visit to an orthodontist for the airway evaluation should be done at 6-7 years of age. If we can intervene sooner and find out they have airway issues, we can take advantage of their growth potential and modify to give them the maximum airway space.”
Metro West does see patients in all different age groups, but Dr. Kim says the sooner the treatment is provided, the better. Parents are encouraged to be aware of potential signs of airway issues in their children. Mouth breathing, snoring, bedwetting, and difficulty concentrating can be indicators that warrant an evaluation.
“When you’re younger,” she says, “All the treatment is easier, it’s easy to maintain. The benefits are lifelong.”

Canvas Salon and Day Spa shares expert advice on caring for your skin during the cold winter months
ARTICLE BY CANVAS SALON AND DAY SPA
The dramatic seasonal shift from fall to winter can lead to changes in our skin. The drop in humidity, glacial Nebraskan winds, and frigid temperatures leave many of us feeling chapped, itchy, and dried out.
The estheticians at Canvas Salon and Day Spa, at the intersection of 42nd and Highway 370, know that when it comes to caring for your skin: comfort, simplicity, and approachability come first. While social media has become overwhelmed with skin care advice and how-tos over the last several years, it is difficult to decipher what is fact from fiction.
The team at Canvas Salon is focused on providing their clients with answers through fact-driven

treatments and at-home care options that combat the impending skin blues throughout the colder months.
“Flaky skin never made me feel very festive during the holidays,” says Ellen Magnuson, a licensed esthetician at Canvas Salon and Day Spa. “Before I became an esthetician, I used to dread how dry my skin would get in the fall and winter. Now that I know there are solutions, I can show my clients that their desired results are possible and that, with consistency, they can feel dewy and hydrated year-round!”
Here are some great solutions offered at Canvas Salon and Day Spa that will help your skin look and feel great this winter.
Hydrafacial is a patented, medical-grade service that is safe for all skin types and provides a non-invasive and gentle way to achieve bright and eventoned skin. Hydrafacial sloughs away dull skin and summertime skin damage by providing advanced cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, and hydration all-in-one treatment. Hydrafacial treatments can be customized to your skincare concerns with lymphatic therapy, LED Light therapy, and booster serums to enhance our results.

Peels help resurface the outermost layer of the skin, providing room for new, healthier skin to form. Botanical and chemical facial peels expose deeper layers of the skin, which makes skin susceptible to UV rays following the treatment. When the sun is less intense, skin has a better protective environment to heal. We recommend a consultation before booking a peel service to ensure your skin will benefit from the service.

The Organic Hungarian Facial is similar to a traditional facial, incorporating relaxing facial, neck, and arm massage. The Organic Hungarian Facial allows the estheticians at Canvas to pick products based on your skin needs, whether that be hydration, discoloration, or prevention of fine lines and wrinkles (or all three)! Rest and escape the gray weather on a warm spa bed…wake up to revitalized, glowing skin.

Body treatments exfoliate dead skin from the chest, arms, legs, and back with a gentle and revitalizing body scrub. Soften the skin with a light massage using luxurious body oil. Leave skin moisturized with an application of hydrating body lotion. This treatment is safe and effective for all skin types. Pairing a Body Treatment with a facial is the ultimate way to achieve head-to-toe TLC.
