LIFESTYLE LETTER
Creating Connections and Sharing Gratitude Embracing my role brings me immense joy and humility. This journey has been a remarkable one. In this issue, we dive into our local culture through the lens of a personal chef, and unveil the top 8 spots as voted by our residents. Food, an integral part of our lives, evokes cherished childhood memories - from baking Christmas cookies with loved ones to relishing bonfires and s'mores with friends. Food not only connects us with people, but also grounds us into our own bodies, attuning us to its needs and rhythms. As I get to reflect on the last few months and what we have created for all of you, I notice how much this has evoked healing for my inner child. To be creative, to get to know people who align with my values, to truly create a community that embodies social responsibility and wants to see change. God has done amazing things and I'm seeing him do things for our community and bring people together, something I've prayed for since I was little. It is heartening to share that we have fostered connections with local non-profits dedicated to bettering our city. These organizations are not only serving our community but also actively working towards solutions for homelessness and other pressing issues! Their tireless efforts reflect a shared commitment to making our beloved city a more compassionate and thriving place for all. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community that uplifts each and every one of us. When I spoke to Taylor, the Marketing Director from The Hub OC Resource Center, I got to hear more about what they are doing for our community in Orange but we also got to share our journeys through this all and our hearts with one another. Taylor and I ended our call in prayer, praying for each other and for those in our community. I express deep gratitude to the City of Orange, our dedicated leaders, the local fire department and police department and each one of their employees, and every member of our community who have tirelessly worked towards meaningful change and advocated for those in need. A heartfelt thank you to our partners who help make this publication a consistent publication every single month so that you all get to see the vibrancy in our beloved community. If you are eager to give back this holiday season, I encourage you to explore this issue for ways to make a positive impact in our community! Culinary Journey A STORY OF GRATITUDE, HERITAGE, AND HEARTFELT MEALS
ARTICLE BY ATNA WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY BY FATIMA HURD
Chef Kryssie began her culinary journey in 2005, earning an Associate of Science in Culinary Arts from The Art Institute of CA — Orange County in 2007. She started as a line cook at Angel Stadium in 2007 and continued at a Tustin golf course from 2008 to 2011. She further honed her skills at the Hyatt in Newport Beach (2011-2012) and as a corporate management trainee with Hyatt in San Antonio, TX (2012-2013). Returning to California, Chef Kryssie served as a banquet chef at the Hyatt in Newport Beach from 2013 to 2017. In 2016, Chef Kryssie introduced her concept of Modern Filipino-inspired food through popup dinners, marking a turning point in her career. She then served as a Restaurant chef at Hilton in Costa Mesa from 2017 to 2019. However, 2020 brought both a promotion to Executive Sous Chef and an unforeseen challenge – the pandemic led to a sudden job loss. Seizing the moment, Chef Kryssie transitioned to a freelance personal chef in 2020, embracing the autonomy and control over her schedule. This shift not only sustained her but empowered her to deliver personalized, heartfelt culinary experiences.

“The act of sharing a meal, especially during the holidays, is an intimate exchange that bridges cultural divides.”
Chef Kryssie's passion for cooking and nurturing others was nurtured early on, inspired by her family's culinary prowess, especially her grandmother's. Early exposure to the kitchen and her admiration for Martha Stewart and Great Chefs of the World fueled her culinary aspirations. Her caring nature finds expression in her devotion to those closest to her, rooted in gratitude for their unwavering support. Her Filipino heritage, initially a source of self-consciousness, emerged as a powerful asset. It offered a unique perspective on flavor fusion, enabling her to seamlessly blend Filipino tastes for a diverse audience. Her ability to appeal not only to Filipinos but also to non-Filipinos and nonAsians stands as a testament to the richness of her culinary heritage. Cooking, she believes, should always be infused with love and intention. Negative energies have no place in her kitchen. She advises others to approach their culinary endeavors with a positive spirit, as the energy invested inevitably shapes the final result. This heartfelt approach, she asserts, results in dishes that are not only flavorful but also resonate on a deeper emotional level. Chef Kryssie's culinary prowess extends beyond flavors; it evokes memories and emotions. Filipino cuisine, in particular, carries her back to her childhood, evoking a sense of euphoria. Her joy lies in serving her unique interpretation of Filipino dishes, offering a taste of familiarity even in the midst of innovation. Food, for Chef Kryssie, transcends borders, unifying people across diverse backgrounds. The act of sharing a meal, especially during the holidays, is an intimate exchange that bridges cultural divides. Her cooking, a fusion of heritage and innovation, fosters connections and gratitude, exemplified by a memorable Thanksgiving/birthday dinner she prepared. The Filipino-inspired feast resonated deeply with her client's guests, invoking cherished childhood memories and creating an unforgettable celebration. In the world of Chef Kryssie, every dish is a canvas for love, intention, and heritage. It's an art form that transcends taste, creating culinary experiences that resonate on a deeply emotional level. Through her remarkable journey, Chef Kryssie imparts a timeless lesson: cooking, when infused with passion, becomes a vessel of gratitude, a bridge between cultures, and a catalyst for meaningful connections.

TIP 4: PREPARE FOR SHORE EXCURSIONS One of the highlights of your Mediterranean cruise is the array of exciting shore excursions offered by Cruise Planners. To ensure you don't miss out on your desired experiences, book your excursions in advance. Pack a day bag with essentials like sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a camera to capture the breathtaking moments you'll encounter ashore. These excursions are your chance to delve deeper into the history, cuisine, and beauty of the Mediterranean region.
TIP 5: BUDGETING FOR ONSHORE ACTIVITIES To make the most of your Mediterranean cruise, it's wise to budget for onshore activities. Cruise Planners recommends setting aside a portion of your budget specifically for excursions, dining at local restaurants, and shopping for souvenirs. It's also a good idea to carry local currency for small purchases and tips while having a credit card on hand for added convenience and security.
TIP 6: STAY INFORMED ON CRUISE POLICIES Lastly, staying informed about the cruise line's policies and guidelines is essential. Cruise Planners provides you with comprehensive information on cancellation policies, onboard dress codes, and any health and safety requirements. By being well-informed, you'll embark on your Mediterranean cruise with confidence, knowing that every detail has been taken care of.

Gather
Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving or an autumn dinner party, setting a festive table creates the perfect cozy atmosphere. Improvise and use what you have around the house for adding elements to the table. Candlesticks, vases, little pumpkins and gourds, or fall decor you have on hand can make a great centerpiece. Add fresh flowers or dried foliage for that extra layer of texture and color.

Brass candlesticks with brown taper candles create a simple and elegant centerpiece. Use familiar accents such as amber jars filled with dried grass foliage and brass pheasants to adorn the table. To add a little character to the table, use a recycled wine bottle as a vase. The simple place setting is enhanced with a dried grass accent and brown silk ribbon tied into a bow to add a special touch to your traditional display. CONTINUED >

Are you planning to dine al fresco this fall? Create an earthy, fall garden party on the porch by using natural, organic elements, greenery and flowers. To make a statement, create a floral chandelier by hanging flowers upside down above the table using fishing wire (if your space allows). The centerpiece that runs down the length of this table consists of fresh eucalyptus with gold candlesticks and a ceramic pumpkin vase filled with flowers placed on top a tree trunk charger. Adding small pumpkins and fresh flowers along the center gives a little extra character. Instead of going with the classic white plate, enjoy a pop of color at your outdoor fall garden party with a blue place setting as a nod to the sky. Adding a cloth napkin and cloth placemat is a great way to add texture and more autumn color to your table. If the weather doesn’t cooperate on your day, bring the outdoors in with a lovely indoor garden party dressed up in fall foliage.

Rustic yet elegant, this tablescape combines the love of traditional, vintage and natural elements with an updated twist. Inspired by wooded acreage, the Spode Woodland Collection transferware designs are rooted in proper hunting tradition and perfect for marrying nature with traditional elegance. Dating back to 1831, the collection features various animals centered by the British Flowers border. This French antique dining room set was chosen for an intimate gathering for four. The fawn table runner mimicking deer spots brings an earthy, yet elevated foundation as the base for this table setting. Coordinating fawn napkins wrapped with twine and topped with natural feathers creates a whimsical touch. The stunning centerpiece starts with a vintage silver water pitcher that is then filled with fresh, sweet arrowwood Viburnums leaves. To complete the look, pair crystal glasses with vintage crystal stemware, and mix gold flatware with antique silver water pitchers, delicate salt and pepper shakers and your favorite trays.
