Spread the Love: A Tribute to Weber County
This issue celebrates "local love" in all its beautiful forms. From community outreach to lifelong friendships and family bonds, we explore the heartbeat of Weber County through the stories of those who make it special.
Heart of the Community
Our Kindness Chronicles highlight the power of collective action. Thanks to our partners, we were able to purchase coats for local children, honoring the mission that "no child goes cold" this winter. It’s a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we look out for our smallest neighbors.
We also step inside the lives of local entrepreneurs who pour their hearts into their work:
• Leslie Barlow: The owner of The Foundry shares the touching motivation behind running her event venue.
• Victor Seguinot: The owner of Perfect Moment Productions explains his compelling "why" for wanting to be a part of people’s happiest milestones.
Lasting Connections
Love isn't just about romance; it's about the village we build around us.
• The Gourmet Club: What began a decade ago as a simple way to learn recipes has blossomed into a profound story of sisterhood and support among a group of local women.
• The Zaugg Siblings: Emma and Chandler Zaugg remind us of the unique strength of family. This heartwarming piece, written by Chandler, spotlights the enduring nature of sibling love.
• A Lifetime Together: A love issue wouldn't be complete without the wisdom of experience. We visited the Harrison Regent Independent Senior Living Community to feature a couple who have been married for decades, proving that true love only grows with time.
A Furry Kind of Love
Finally, I’m thrilled to introduce you to my dogs, Daisy and RJ. Daisy was rescued from our local shelter over a year ago. She has been an incredible blessing in our lives. If you are looking to add a "fur baby" to your family, please reach out to Weber County Animal Services. There are so many dogs just like Daisy waiting for their forever homes. Stay loving and kind, Weber County!

Kindness Warms Weber County
Local Business Partners Lead with Kindness to Ensure No Child Goes Cold This Winter
Kindness is contagious, and the partners of Ogden City Lifestyle Magazine proved this beautifully in November with their initiative, "No Child Goes Cold." Living up to their mantra, "Lead With Kindness," especially right here in our own backyard. The magazine brought its partners together to ensure 18 local children would be warm this winter.
The magazine's initial goal was to assist business owners in Weber County in growing their businesses and getting their brands out there. While the mission was commercial, what has emerged is a deeply fulfilling discovery: the people I've encountered, whether partners in the magazine or not, generally possess good hearts and a strong desire to contribute to their local community.
Working closely with local school counselor Tia Paxton and Quality Youth Services Owner, Tami Paxton, the magazine identified children in need. Each participating
partner then “adopted” a child and purchased a winter coat for them.
This act of generosity is the focus of this month’s Kindness Chronicles—a spotlight dedicated to the good and kind things happening right here in Weber County. This magazine focuses on kindness and local businesses. My heart has been filled with awe by the genuine kindness of people here in Weber County. The outpouring of support from the partners was heartwarming. Lori Matlack of Matlack Interior Designs shared her personal joy, stating, "Buying a coat for a child in need is one of my favorite things to do."
As we continue to spotlight the good in our community, we resonate deeply with the advice from author Clare Pooley: "In a world where you can be anything, be kind."
If you know a Weber County resident who deserves to be highlighted for their kindness, please reach out!
Stay kind, Weber County!
Reverse Metabolic Dysfunction
Transform Your Health. Transform Your Life.
We live right here in your community, and our mission is simple: Transform one life at a time — starting with yours. Is it time for your metabolic reset? If you’re dealing with any of the following, we should talk:
High blood pressure
Elevated blood sugar (Type II or pre-diabetes)
Cholesterol challenges
Belly or visceral fat
High triglycerides
Did you know 9 of the 10 leading causes of death are directly linked to metabolic dysfunction. You can reverse it — affordably and sustainably (for less than your weekly food bill). It’s not price that holds people back — it’s fear and resistance. Let’s overcome both, together. Let’s talk possibilities.

LOVING WITH INTENTION
ARTICLE BY LESLIE BARLOW
Dear Readers, We often imagine love at its most cinematic: perfect lighting, grand gestures, and carefully curated beauty. But the most powerful thing about a wedding isn’t the dress, the flowers, or even the venue. It’s the intention to pause, to gather, and to choose one another out loud.
That same intention carries far beyond a single day. Love shows up in celebrations and in grief, in beginnings and in goodbyes. In each moment, it asks the same thing of us: How do we show up with care? The answer doesn’t require perfection, only presence.
In a world that moves quickly, intention becomes an act of devotion. It’s choosing meaning over excess, experience over expectation. When couples plan a wedding rooted in intention, they are practicing something that will serve them long after the day ends: the ability to slow down, to prioritize what matters, and to honor the people they love.
Because love, at its heart, isn’t a single event. It’s the way we choose to mark the moments that matter most. It’s found in the pauses between milestones, in the quiet promises we keep, and in the spaces we create for others to feel seen, celebrated, and at home.
Running The Foundry has taught me that love with intention can be quiet and steady. It can live in the details, in the work behind the scenes, and in the pride that comes from watching a space slowly become what you hoped it could be. I’ve found a deep sense of purpose in caring for this place and in creating an environment where people feel supported and welcomed. A place for people to freely weave their own stories into it.
However, what has surprised me the most is the love that has come back through community. It lives in the couples who trust this space with their milestones, the vendors and teams who share the same care and commitment, and the moments I’m honored to witness—each one a reminder of why this work matters.
And for all this, I am truly grateful! For you, the one reading this, and for everyone who has been a part of our very own love story in building something meaningful at The Foundry. Thank you for showing up with care, thank you for being here, and thank you for loving with intention. You're making the world a better place.
Love,
Leslie Barlow Owner of The Foundry Weddings & Events
“In a world that moves quickly, intention becomes an act of devotion, choosing meaning over excess and presence over perfection.”

Galentine's GOURMET
A decade-long tradition of connection, creativity, and cuisine
ARTICLE BY EVANA MAURIZ PHOTOGRAPHY BY MISSY ALBRETSEN
This February, love takes center stage at Galentine’s Day Gourmet. Once a month, nine remarkable women come together around a single essential ingredient: love—for exceptional food, mastering new recipes, and most importantly, one another.
For more than a decade, this shared passion has transformed simple gatherings into something extraordinary.
As they put it best, it’s “a delicious celebration of love, food, and friendship.” These cherished monthly meet-ups are a standing date with connection, creativity, and the kind of friendship that only deepens with time.
Each gathering is a sensory adventure, thoughtfully curated around a fresh monthly theme. Every dish must reflect the concept, and—most importantly—each of the nine women is challenged to create a recipe she’s never made before. Courses are carefully assigned among the group— cocktails, appetizers, sides, the main dish, and dessert—resulting in a beautifully orchestrated, multi-course feast that’s as creative as it is indulgent. The effort put into the presentation matches the creativity found in the kitchen.
A shared commitment to stepping outside their comfort zones sits at the heart of the group’s ethos. “If you don't like making desserts or if you're not good at it, pick that one!” says founding member Janelle Barber. Whether the outcome is a “complete fail” or a “huge success,” the atmosphere remains rooted in encouragement and camaraderie. “At the end of the day, it's all about learning.”
They help each other by making suggestions and transforming missteps into collective moments of growth. And according to Sharron Wolff, the group’s not-so-secret ingredient for success is simple: “Garlic! If it's in your dish, double it!”
At its heart, the group’s purpose is beautifully simple: to challenge one another and show up in support. Beyond the artful plates and the pursuit of standout recipes lies the actual main course— unmatched company and enduring friendship.
The women are especially proud of their friend Tami, who has turned that shared passion into a profession and now runs a high-quality, farm-totable operation from her own estate. And in true Galentine’s spirit, the celebration continues—this month, we’re thrilled to share one of Chef Tami’s exclusive recipes with our readers!
THE COMPASSIONATE LIFE AND LEGACY OF Victor Seguinot
FROM DEFENDING THE SKIES TO CREATING JOYFUL MOMENTS THROUGH KINDNESS
ARTICLE BY KATRINA HAMMOND
Victor Seguinot’s life story is a powerful illustration of how technical mastery and a deeply compassionate heart can work in harmony. From the cockpit of a solo flight to the high-stakes environment of active combat, and eventually to the joy-filled celebrations of his community, Victor’s journey has been defined by a singular, driving force: a commitment to being kind and putting others first.
A FOUNDATION IN FLIGHT
Victor’s fascination with aeronautics began in his youth; by the age of 13, he knew his future belonged in the sky. His dedication was so intense that he earned his pilot’s license at just 16 years old— remarkably, before he had even earned his driver’s license. He recalls his first solo flight as "the most incredible feeling ever," a moment of pure freedom that solidified his career path.
After graduating high school in New Jersey and enjoying one final summer with his childhood friends, Victor’s path led him to the United States Air Force. He transitioned from a student of flight to a guardian of the aircraft, learning the intricate details of servicing F-16s. His talent was undeniable. After training in Arizona and being assigned to the 34th Fighter Squadron—known as “The Rude CONTINUED >
Ram”—at Hill Air Force Base, Victor quickly rose through the ranks. He became one of the youngest dedicated Crew Chiefs in the service, a role that demanded both technical excellence and a protective spirit for his pilots.
BRAVERY ROOTED IN KINDNESS
While Victor’s military career was marked by efficiency, it was his selflessness under pressure that truly defined his service. Victor participated in both non-combat and combat missions, often specializing in alert launches and sensitive intel recovery.
One story highlights his willingness to put others' safety above his own. During a mission in which communication lines between the tower and the land crew were compromised, the entire operation was at risk. Understanding the danger his fellow airmen faced without communication, Victor volunteered to step out under heavy fire to splice the lines. This act of bravery allowed the mission to move forward, but for Victor, it was a necessary act of service to his team.
A NEW CHAPTER OF JOY AND SERVICE
Following his retirement from the military in 2018, Victor sought a new way to connect with people. While he had earned a degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle during his active service, his post-military heart led him to the world of entertainment. Helping a friend with a DJ business sparked a new passion: witnessing the happiest moments of people's lives.
“I will never forget the most beautiful sound I have ever heard: my daughter crying for the first time.”
Perhaps the most poignant example of his resilience occurred during a deployment while his wife was in labor. Under heavy attack and clinging to a satellite phone, Victor listened to his daughter’s first cries amidst the sounds of combat. He describes that moment as the "most beautiful sound" he had ever heard, a reminder of the family and love he was working so hard to protect. Even in the face of war, his heart remained focused on the beauty of new life.
Victor founded Perfect Moment Productions (PMP), a "one-stop shop" for events, offering everything from DJ services and dance floors to character artists and wedding singers. Clients like Dallin and Kensie Ewart attest to his kindness, noting that his personal attention to detail made their wedding perfect. Victor continues to innovate by planning to roll out a massive 17-foot video wall in the fall of 2026 to elevate his craft. Yet, despite his business success, his focus remains on the community. He is heavily involved with nonprofit organizations, frequently donating his time and services to support local causes.
When asked what matters most after a lifetime of high-altitude achievements and harrowing missions, Victor’s answer is simple: "My family is the heart of my life and my greatest inspiration. Their creativity, kindness, and resilience shape who I am every day. I am equally grateful for my partner, Meagan, whose warmth, strength, and unwavering support bring balance and joy to our family. Together, they are my foundation and my why."
Unbreakable Bonds through Sibling Love
Growing up together with joy, hardship, and unwavering love
I feel very honored and privileged to have grown up with my sister Emma. I cannot imagine having a better sibling and am so grateful for the opportunity I had to grow up with her. We have been through a lot together, not all of it easy. But no matter what’s happened, I am continually amazed at how the love and shared experiences we have had kept us close and resilient through good times and bad.
Emma and I grew up in a loving home. Our mom was keen on teaching us values of love, learning, and growing that have led us to become great friends over time. In the course of our upbringing, any rift we had was shortlived, as we were continually taught to show kindness, love, and a desire to understand one another. Our childhood education varied between elementary, montessori and homeschool groups, but most of the time we were taught at home by our mom. Not only did she teach us the value in gaining an education and appreciating what the world and culture have to offer, but she also kindled that spark of desire to love learning and seek out every opportunity to do so.
During that time, there were many moments where we had a lot of fun together too. We had a large collection of stuffed animals (varying

from dogs and rabbits to deer and pandas) we played with to create elaborate stories and entertained each other for hours. Most of our stories had a Pride and Prejudice or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers theme, and a lot of humor and comedy was created along the way. Similar turnouts happened for stories we did with Legos or other toys we had. There were many moments when we made each other laugh, and the fun and creativity had no limit. It was a golden time we look back on often, and I am so grateful for the memories we share with that. I think it cemented our own creativity and love for stories that left a profound impact on our souls and has remained with us throughout our lives.
Emma has also been incredibly kind and helpful to me throughout my life. Growing up a disabled boy with cerebral palsy, there were many things I needed physical help with, and Emma has always been
so attentive to what those needs may be. Things like helping me with meals, taking my hand to help me walk somewhere, or finding a chair for me to sit in when I’d been walking too long. Along with that, whenever I feel sad, scared, or struggle to understand something, she is quick to offer words of comfort, clarity, and common sense that help me settle down. She inspires me to be a better brother, and I’ve learned so much from her example over time. We also have had many experiences together that proved difficult and challenging but were instrumental in helping us become closer. While our dad was often emotionally absent or abusive, we did our best to have a relationship with him, even when it
was hard. Life has also brought challenges that have been trying to our patience and faith, but things have always turned out fine. I know our mutual love and closeness has helped us stay strong. Having a sibling is a special gift. I have known no better friendship or mutual connection than with my sister. I believe such relationships can be a blessing for all of us.

Kindness in Ogden: A Harrison Regent Couple Shares a Life Well Lived
Together
Meet Mary Ann and Frank Silva! As residents of Harrison Regent Retirement Community in Ogden, Utah, this beautiful couple has a unique and enduring love story. Mary Ann loves to dance and read. Frank began his career as an airplane mechanic. Each served in the United States Military, and they both love horses.
As a young woman, Mary Ann signed up for the Army, thinking she might get to “jump out of an airplane!” Instead, she was sent to secretary school. Next, she was asked to work in a hospital and did not want to give shots! One weekend, Mary Ann went to see her brother in New Jersey and met his friend, Frank Silva. Frank was an airplane mechanic with the Navy. Mary Ann said of their first date: “I went on a date and Frank was the driver, but he told me his name was ‘Ralph.’ We had a Coke and a hamburger. I accidentally left my favorite cigarette lighter in his car. When I got home I said to my brother, ‘when you see Ralph get my lighter back.’ My brother told me his friend’s name was ‘Frank.’ I was so mad! Frank came back another day to take me to get shoes for work. We ended up going out every day after that for three months. We were both short, loved horses and Western and Country music.” Mary Ann and Frank kept up a long-distance relationship and
then married in Sacramento, CA in 1958. Their life was full with running a dairy ranch, raising horses, working at a creamery, going on camping trips, and caring for a family of five beautiful children. Eventually they adopted a sixth child. Reflecting on their children, Mary Ann laughs, “They are all still characters.”
When asked about being married for over fifty years, Mary Ann said with a smile in her voice, “I think marriage is great. Love is great. Sometimes you are too much alike, and you might fight, but even that can be OK. I like a good fight once in a while. He likes to tease and drives me crazy doing that. I’m glad I am here for him.”
