If scenic countrysides, eclectic shopping, cultural attractions, vibrant dining scenes, and some good old American history are calling your name, plan a leisurely weekend away to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Just 1.5 hours from northwest Bergen County down Rt. 287 and connecting to 202, you’ll find 18th-century charm, and grace punctuated by the occasional covered bridge along the way. Steeped in history, you can explore Washington Crossing History Park and wander past buildings from colonial times. Follow in the footsteps of George Washington and his famed crossing of the Delaware

River. Bowman’s Hill Tower is fun to climb. Leave time to stop and smell the flowers as you meander through Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, and then take a beautiful walk down the Delaware Canal Tow Path. Tours abound for exploring the area on your own. Take the backroads and embark on a scenic driving tour of the County’s 12 remaining covered bridges. Check out the self-guided Heritage Conservancy “Barn Voyage” tour, where you can roll through the rustic countryside and take in 15 historic barns nestled in the hillsides. in 2000, Crossing Vineyards and Winery is located on a 200-year-old estate less than a mile from where George Washington crossed the Delaware in 1776. A flight of wine, complemented by the vineyard’s trademark sunset views is the perfect way to kick off the weekend. During our visit, we stayed at the Pineapple Hill Inn Bed & Breakfast, a stone and frame structure originally built in 1790. Following multiple renovations over the years, the house is now comprised of three stories with nine guest rooms and three suites, many of which have their own fireplace. Sitting on almost six acres, the Inn is about 3 miles from downtown New Hope. It holds the ruins of two barns, a cookhouse, and a milking station. The stone walls enclosing the pool area are the remains of an original Dutch barn on the property. It's the perfect spot to immerse yourself in bygone days and relish an unhurried breakfast, pleasant conversation, and the luxury of muting your electronic devices. The Inn’s stunning décor is enhanced by quiet classical music that plays throughout. Manager Lori provides delicious sweet and savory breakfasts; don’t miss the wine and hand-crafted hors d’oeuvres—well-deserved after a long day of sightseeing and shopping. Trip Advisor ranked this Inn as one of the Top 25 in the Country. I’m thinking the freshly baked brownies available upon our arrival had something to do with that. If you have a family of foodies, you will be in the right place. There are eateries and restaurants to suit every appetite throughout Bucks County. We visited Solstice in Newtown which offers a seasonal menu accented with innovative craft cocktails. Experience seasonal dishes and delightful service from their waitstaff that exhibits a true love and interest in fine cuisine. The Logan Inn was recently renovated and features a unique bar area and décor current yet reflective of the historic setting. There’s plenty of outdoor seating available to enjoy people-watching on warm spring evenings in downtown New Hope.

Don’t think the nightlife is antiquated. Stella, Havana’s, and Karlas are all fun stops for an afternoon snack or cocktail. If you're yearning for some tranquility, be sure to visit Peace Valley Lavender, located in a classic barn on a hill overlooking a scenic lake.
