Spruce Up for Springtime MAGNOLIA HOME REMODELING GROUP

ARTICLE BY KRIS PEPPER PHOTOGRAPHY BY MAGNOLIA HOME REMODELING GROUP With over 30 years of experience, Magnolia Home Remodeling Group is a premier home remodeling and renovation contractor in New Jersey. Owners Chris Fontana and Vic Fiore possess the energy, focus, experience, and integrity essential to a successful client experience. A New Jersey Licensed Home Improvement Contractor, Magnolia Home Remodeling Group is fully insured and specializes in kitchen, bathroom, and basement remodeling. They also install siding, roofing, and windows. When a homeowner reaches out for a consultation, one of Magnolia's sales specialists visits to understand the client's wishes and needs and then creates a plan. A walk-through is scheduled with the team when the project's scope is determined. Structural work, kitchens, and bathroom

projects require architects and cabinet designers to join in the initial meeting as well. "This way, we all understand the space and its unique challenges. It eliminates unforeseen complications," says Vic. "Then, we finalize the plan, process permits, order materials, and get started." Understanding the big picture from the beginning is critical to ultimate success and satisfaction in the completed project. "We have a discussion with the homeowner to understand their family lifestyle during our initial consultation," says Vic. "A majority of our clients have a clear understanding of what they want. They see ideas on our Instagram page or website, or they may have some photos for inspiration. Some customers have no idea what they want, but rely on us for ideas on what will work best." Kitchens, bathrooms, and basements are always popular remodeling projects. "Kitchens are where

people spend most of their time," says Vic. "Many of our clients want to combine their formal dining room space to create spacious, open eat-in kitchens with large center islands." Springtime brings other construction projects to the forefront, such as siding, patios, porches, and decks for added curb appeal and aesthetic value. Upgrading old, outdated rooms and outdoor spaces brings a home to life and positively impacts your home's value. As most of us can attest, maintenance and improvement projects are endless for homeowners. "Our goal is to make your remodeling project stress-free and enjoyable," says Vic. "We value each relationship and hope that our customers will love the completed work so much that they will continue to work with us on future projects." magnoliahomeremodeling.com

Although spring promises to arrive in several weeks, there’s still some cold weather ahead of us. Consider warming things up with a new fireplace this season. If you need a professional opinion, The Cozy Dog Fireplace Shoppe is the place to go. Owner, Lisa Moskal is one of very few female owners in the fireplace industry and brings her own style and flair to a traditionally male trade. “I wanted to give a woman’s touch to a man’s industry,” says Lisa. “I put my own spin on the business by educating myself and earning the required certifications. I launched it myself and enjoy the wide array of people I work with…from architects to designers and homeowners. I like the combination of design and technicality that makes a fireplace beautiful and functional.”

Springtime generally kicks off home renovation season. Homeowners who are adding on a family room, or planning an overhaul of nearly any room in the house will want to consider the benefits of adding a fireplace. Fireplaces are one of the most sought-after features for home buyers and can increase a home’s value by as much as 6-8%. They not only provide beauty and atmosphere but also warmth in the case of a power outage. Knowing what type of fireplace is right for you is Lisa’s specialty. Stop in their showroom in Rochelle Park and, with Lisa’s guidance, determine whether woodburning, gas, or electric is best for your home. The Cozy Dog offers a selection of pellet stoves as well. Many homeowners are opting to convert existing wood-burning fireplaces to gas, which can be more environmentally friendly and convenient to operate. It gives the effect of wood-burning logs with the convenience of a remote control. Lisa can also advise you on

installing a wood insert, which allows you to enjoy the rustic ambiance of a wood fire with increased warmth and efficiency. Electric fireplaces offer the same cozy atmosphere but only require an electrical outlet to provide the natural beauty of a hearth. The Cozy Dog Fireplace Shoppe does it all from A-Z, says Lisa. We manage the full build and installation of your fireplace, including refacing, adding custom wood, cast stone, or Turkish marble mantles, and hearths. Lisa’s experience and unique perspective help homeowners all over Bergen County know what type of fireplace is right for their lifestyle. Whether you are looking to install a new fireplace or update an existing one, Lisa and her team will make your experience pleasant and leave you feeling warm and fuzzy! cozydogfireplace.com

Patty Lacourte has created residential and commercial interior designs for the tri-state area for over 25 years. She earned her degree from the Henri Matisse School of Interior Design in Peru. Patty’s inspiration, in part, is due to her worldwide travels to places such as London, Paris, Berlin, Prague, and Tokyo. As a result, her passion is to bring a global perspective to her work. Patty strives to create beautiful, timeless décors that are meant to be lived in and enjoyed, bringing comfort, sophistication, and practicality to your personal style. She offers complete interior design services and “in-home” shopping to help you choose the right upholstery, wallpaper, lighting, and accessories. Finally, her curated collections help you find pieces that make your home feel complete. Sometimes, a client wants a full-blown kitchen design, and sometimes they want to freshen up the lobby of their boutique hotel. Before starting any interior design project, Patty asks her client what their objective is for their space: do they want a sleek, modern appeal or a place to entertain their guests while still having a functional space? Patty prides herself on genuinely walking her clients through the entire design process and being there every step of the way. After all, the clients should love it! This month, Patty graciously shares some beautiful images of past projects along with an expert glimpse of the current trends in home design.

LIVING ROOM

I find that mixing family heirlooms, such as the coffee table in this living room, is an essential part of decorating. The warm blue on the walls is softened by the custom window treatments which define the space. The beautiful artwork helps to set the tone with a surprise pop of color. Using throw pillows in various colors and patterns on the couch and chairs gives an updated and exciting look.

This dining room project began with the client’s console table. Using deep blue grasscloth wallpaper with white wainscoting defines this space. The custom upholstered head chairs in the blue and white fabric, along with the soft blue and gray rug, warms up the room. The dark mahogany table with the white side chairs gives a rich and inviting look.

OFFICE

Working from home sometimes needs a fresh new look. In this case, it was working with the client’s existing furniture. We used soft tones in the wallpaper and custom window treatments to keep this space simple and clean. The addition of a modern hanging light fixture and shapely guest chair gives the room a bit of interest.

POWDER ROOM

This small powder room was made to look much larger by incorporating a clean, white palette in the tile, wainscoting, trim, and custom window treatment. Accenting the starkness of the white with a deep blue grasscloth on the walls gives it a classic, timeless look. The gold mirror and wall sconces finish off this room beautifully. pattylacourte.com

FROM FUNCTION TO DESIGN...

THE DESIGN STRATEGIES OF MICHELLE PAULINE INTERIORS

“MY CLIENTS ARE WELLVERSED ABOUT THE TRENDS AND PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET, BUT THEY NEED A DESIGNER TO PULL THINGS TOGETHER.” Getting to know her clients on a personal level and understanding how they live in their space is what Michelle Pauline Interiors is all about. Following a career in advertising in New York City, Michelle Gomberg exited corporate America to focus on raising her family. She discovered a natural passion for interior design while building her own home and decided to pursue a degree in Interior Design, eventually launching Michelle Pauline Interiors. She now focuses on residential planning and luxury interior design with homeowners throughout Bergen County and Manhattan. “My clients are well-versed about the trends and products on the market, but they need a designer to pull things together,” says Michelle. “I walk them through the details of a specific project; from the starting point to developing the layout and functionality of the space, and then to the final transformation. Form and function come first, and the design follows from there.”

FORMAL DINING ROOM The formal dining room pictured had a tremendous amount of natural light, so Michelle’s goal was to provide a space that was gorgeous from the inside—as well as from the outside looking in. A hand-woven leather chandelier from South Africa provided the perfect amount of glow. The custom dining table makes a statement with its burnished metal base sculpted in a branch-like style, creating the definitive “wow” factor. The

tabletop has gorgeous linear veins with a dark walnut stain. The table can seat ten guests comfortably. “Understanding the client’s use of space, their entertaining needs, and their family life is essential to good design,” says Michelle. “We did a schematic of the table with seating and determined that ten chairs would be perfect.” The soft design and open sides of the chairs help to highlight the beauty of the table as opposed to a chair with arms. Warm metals complement the table base and are repeated in the window hardware and lacquered white bowl as well, which features a pop of green. The drapery fabric features elegant horizontal lines that balance the vertical pattern of the wall covering. Calla lily wall sculptures add a touch of grace and beauty in white and metallic gold. Luxury finishings and sophisticated touches add color and texture.

FOYER "We wanted to highlight the tremendous amount of light gracing the foyer,” says Michelle. The custom stair runners highlight the colors of the branches, the roping of the ottomans and are visible through the banister railings. “It’s all done with intention,” says Michelle. “Even the book has subtle wine-colored undertones reflecting the buds of the branches on the table. All of the fibers and materials are diverse yet complementary.”

OFFICE The office was designed to encapsulate a masculine and luxurious feel. With leather-wrapped bookshelves and black cerused accents, the space speaks for itself.

MASTER BEDROOM Tones within the custom templated area rug dramatize the room along with the burnished frame of the bench. Finding the balance between modern and traditional, Michelle complemented the room with a chandelier of lacquered burnished brass and smoked glass which sets off the antique mirrors over the nightstands which accommodate alabaster table lamps. The entire master bedroom is covered in a basketweave wallcovering. “Tone-on-tone basketweave provides subtle elegance and a nice tranquil calming balance to the drama of the dark undertones,” says Michelle. "It's romantic and sophisticated and the homeowners are able to enjoy it as a bedroom and for leisure." “Working with our amazing clients and getting to know them on a personal level, plays a huge role in setting the tone for our beautiful designs from a functional standpoint. We love getting to the root of how our clients live in their space, which family heirlooms will be repurposed (almost always), and what turns them on! At the end of the day, we want our clients to fall in love with their home…and they do.” michellepaulineinteriors.com
