WAYS TO CELEBRATE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES

As you settle into this issue, I hope it feels like a deep breath — a reminder of what truly makes Northlake feel like home.
This month, I would like to begin with a sincere thank you to the local businesses that participated in our City Love Letters feature. Your stories, your heart and your commitment to this community are what make this magazine possible. You are doing more than running businesses; you’re creating gathering places, supporting families and investing daily in the people around you. We are so grateful to share your voices.

At Northlake City Lifestyle , we believe loving locally is a choice we make again and again. It’s supporting small businesses that pour their passion into every detail, giving our time and resources to local charities doing meaningful work, and showing up for our neighbors in both big and small ways. When we choose local, we choose connection — and that connection strengthens our entire community.
But love also lives beyond our schedules and to-do lists. It’s found in shared meals, long conversations and moments spent fully present with the people we care about most. In a season where life can feel busy and demanding, taking time to slow down and savor those moments is one of the greatest gifts we can give.
My hope is that this issue encourages you to love a little closer to home — to support, to give back and to spend meaningful time with the people and places that matter most. Thank you for being part of what makes Northlake such a special place to live.
With gratitude,

Choose to pour your wine inside or fireside.

The luxury of a wine tasting seems like it’s an event only for those who live in Napa Valley, Fredericksburg, or Italy, but instead of dreaming of those other places, you could be planning your very own wine tasting at home. Whether you’re looking to transform your space and become a sommelier for the evening or you want a more low-key approach, this article will guide you through every step. This is a perfect party to host for your girls, and it’s just in time for Galentine’s Day.
• About 5-8 bottles of wine, depending on your party size
• Wine glasses
• Writing utensil
• Note cards
• Water
• Snacks
If you’re hosting a smaller group (five people), grab one bottle of each type of wine you’ll be pouring. The larger the group size, the more wine you’ll need. For a more affordable option, consider having each person at your party bring a bottle of wine. Be sure each guest selects a different bottle so there are no duplicates. A good tip for selecting wines is to feature a sparkling or rosé, two white wines and three reds. Feel free to tweak this if your group prefers a certain type of wine. Now that you have the wine, it’s time to find the proper drinkware. For sparkling wines, use a flute and for all others, use a wide-rimmed glass so you can swirl and sniff.
CONTINUED >
Speaking of swirling and sniffing, a fun detail to add to your tasting is to have note cards and writing utensils for your guests to take notes, comments and other observations. For our more chill hosts, simply grab some cardstock note cards. For the hosts who want to go the extra step, you can easily print out pre-designed cards from Canva, Pinterest or Etsy.
While you and your guests are enjoying the various wines, be sure to drink water and eat snacks to cleanse your palate. Each wine has notes that complement foods such as potato chips and Parmesan cheese for a Brut, Brie or a cream-based dip for a Chardonnay and dark chocolate or salami for a Merlot. For a deeper dive into wine and food pairings, The Wine Enthusiast has a wonderful guide on their website: wineenthusiast.com/basics.
1. See. Observe the wine’s visual qualities.
2.Swirl. Grab the stem of the glass and do a gentle swirl. This extra boost of oxygen allows the wine to open up.
3. Sniff/smell. Observe what you smell.
“Just remember to savor your friendships and then do the same for the wine.”
With all of your items in place, it’s time to taste! As the host, walk through the Five S’s of wine tasting with your guests. It is recommended that you allow 15-20 minutes for each wine tasting and food pairing.
4. Sip. Take a sip of your wine and take in all of the flavor.
5. Savor. Enjoy your wine. As your friends sip and savor, feel free to give insight on the wine about where it’s made, specific notes, or if it has a special story for you. Other ways hosts can bring this party up a notch are to play fitting music, decorate for Galentine’s, make it a blind tasting and create a specific theme for the wine selection. Examples of themes could be A Night in Italy featuring only Italian wines, Lone Star Roundup highlighting Texan wines, or for Galentine’s, you could pick wines made only by women.
Wine tasting can be intimidating for some, but hopefully this guide has given you every step to take away the stress and enjoy a well-deserved evening with your girl friends. Use this as a roadmap for your party or tweak it in any way to fit you and your group. Just remember to savor your friendships and then do the same for the wine.

Local Services Share Thanks, Gratitude to Community
From the moment our family opened New Song School of the Arts in Argyle, you welcomed us with open arms, and we’ve felt the heartbeat of this area in every smile, every cheer, and every person who walks through our doors. What we love most about living and working here is the community that we all are a part of. It’s where we live, and for some of us, it is where we work.
One of our greatest joys is watching each person grow in confidence, expression, and passion, knowing they’re surrounded by people who genuinely want to see them thrive. This isn’t just where we work; it’s where our mission comes alive every day—equipping, enriching, and inspiring through the beauty of the arts.
Thank you for believing in us. It’s an honor to serve you.
At Fortify, we're grateful everyday for the people who make our community feel like home. We love how neighbors look out for one another, share recommendations, support local businesses and treat us like family the moment we step onto their property. This community is full of
hard-working, kind, and loyal people who care deeply about protecting their homes and the families inside them –– and that's exactly why we do what we do. From quick check-ins to heartfelt conversations on front porches, you remind us that our work matters. Serving this community isn't just our job, it's our honor. Thank you for trusting us to keep your homes fortified.
What we love about our community is the way it feels like an extended family. It’s built on moments of connection, friendships and trust. Families don't just come here for classes - they're here for something so much bigger.
Our favorite part is the spirit of togetherness. It fuels our dedication to deliver the best experience we can. We love watching children build courage and skills. We love seeing parents cheer for each other’s kids, children cheer for each other and become friends whose connections extend far beyond our walls.
To us, this community means everything. It isn't separate from our business - it's the heartbeat that keeps The Little Gym of Roanoke alive. We're honored to be part of your children’s journeys. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for trusting

“What we love about our community is the way it feels like an extended family.”

us with your children, supporting our business and letting us grow alongside your family.
This tight-knit community is like a family, and we want to bring our part to this family by supporting and caring for the children in our community. This responsibility gives us immense joy since
our most favorite part of this community is the kids. They are the joy and energy that bring life into every day.
What we love most of all is that this community is built on people coming together to support one another. We love being a part of a community that builds each other up.

Create timeless keepsakes for those you love with this easy DIY Valentine Stationary. There is something special and reminiscent of our earlier years of creating homemade valentines for those special in our lives. While stores are filled with Valentine candy, cards and gifts, the thoughtfulness and time put into to a handmade card holds a different meaning. Words are the things we treasure most, so let those you care about most know how you treasure them this Valentine’s Day.
• Kitchen Knife
• Red or Russet Potato (for heart)
• Romaine Lettuce (for rose)
• Acrylic Paint
• Paint Brush
• Blank Envelopes
• Blank Cards
• Heart Template (SilvertoothHome.com/blog/DIY-stationery)
• Hand Lettering Template (SilvertoothHome.com/blog/DIY-stationery)
• Light Box

1. Cut the potato in half. Using a small knife, carefully carve a heart shape onto the flat side of the potato. Carve freestyle or use the free template under “DIY Stationery” on the blog at silvertoothhome.com/ blog/diy-stationery. Even when using the template, each carving will come out as unique art like the ones you see here.
2. With a paint brush, apply paint to the heart shape on the potato.
3. Stamp the potato heart onto blank stationery.
4. Set aside until completely dry.

1. Cut the end off of romaine lettuce. Set leaves aside and use the stem.
2. Using a paintbrush, apply paint to the lettuce stem.
3. Stamp the lettuce “rose” onto blank stationery.
4. Set aside until completely dry.
Once your stationery is completely dry it is time to add beautiful Valentine’s Day lettering. If you have beautiful handwriting then draw free hand. If you’re not as confident use a light box and my hand lettering template (found on the blog at SilvertoothHome.com/blog/DIYstationery) to transfer lettering onto the stationery. To do this, first lay the hand lettering template on a light box with the stationery on top. Then trace the hand lettering onto the stationery with a pen or marker of choice.

VIVA Pottery has unique gifts for any loved one.

VIVA Pottery
If you're looking for an exciting date night or night out with the girls, VIVA Pottery is the perfect destination. VIVA Pottery holds classes for all experience levels and is a great way to connect with your loved ones while learning something fun and new. Adrian Quintanar, owner of VIVA Pottery, has created a space where everyone is welcome and supported, no matter their skillset.
Quintanar’s interest in pottery began while he was attending art school at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He felt ecstatic to be taking a ceramics class, as he had already been working with porcelain in his previous years at a dental lab. He fell in love with pottery and knew that becoming a full-time artist was his dream. Quintanar earned a residency at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and began teaching classes while learning to run an art studio on his own. He did this for four years before returning to Texas, where he taught art and sculpture at a high school; he then pivoted and opened VIVA Pottery in 2023.
With his years of experience, there is no doubt Quintanar is a phenomenal teacher. What makes his studio so successful is his commitment to his craft and to guiding those who are curious to learn. There are consistently new students attending VIVA, and Quintanar notes he can always feel the genuine excitement and curiosity in the room. “I think being honest with my students about the amount of time it takes to get good at this is the best guidance I can give,” Quintanar explained. “Learning how to use a pottery wheel is a challenge, and you simply can’t be an expert in a short amount of time. Learning to enjoy the process is a big part of the journey.”
Valentine’s weekend is the perfect time to attend a VIVA Pottery class because you’ll be learning with your loved ones. Valentine’s weekend has many available spots for a beginner wheel-throwing class.
VIVA Pottery is not just an art studio, but a full-fledged community. “The community of potters at VIVA Pottery has continued to grow since day one,” exclaims Quintanar. VIVA brings people from all walks of life together and engages them with those of similar interests, as well as creates a bonding experience between friends or significant others. Not only will you be learning something new, but you’ll also be creating a new experience with someone you love. You can also commit to a six-week class, regardless of experience, where you will learn the process of creating fully functional pottery. “The process of making a single piece of pottery can take weeks, and a student must focus every step of the way. Most potters say it’s like Christmas morning every time the kiln is opened and you see your pots for the first time. I want them all to feel that excitement,” says Quintanar.
Along with the classes at VIVA Pottery, you can also purchase unique gifts at the studio’s Art Gallery. Here, you will have the opportunity to indulge in handmade pottery and paintings, which can be a meaningful gift to a loved one or to treat yourself. VIVA Pottery also offers workshops by visiting artists and children's classes on Sunday afternoons. For more information on getting into a class or to keep up with the studio and its events, you can visit https://www.viva-pottery.com/. CONTINUED >

“Learning how to use a pottery wheel is a challenge ... Learning to enjoy the process is a big part of the journey,” Quintanar says.

“I think I shed a few tears somewhere in there, which was why the Tiers of Joy really was born,” Anthony said.
Anna’s Tiers of Joy
Buttercream frosting, a fluffy and sweet interior and intricate details are words a person would use to describe cake. Add romance and a couple to the description, people will think of a wedding cake. But, Anna Anthony, owner of Anna’s Tiers of Joy, wants people to see her cakes as an ode to the smaller celebrations. Whether it’s a graduation, promotion or Valentine’s Day, there’s a cake waiting to be cut into.
“I really like to focus my energy on smaller birthday cakes or smaller celebrations,” Anthony said. “Because I feel like when people think of cakes, one of the first places you go to is wedding cakes. But, there's also these smaller cakes that you can also celebrate and make it a big deal.”
Anthony has seen cakes and celebrations go hand in hand all throughout her life because her mom used to make all of her birthday cakes from scratch. When the COVID-19 pandemic swept the country, Anthony found herself bored, so she asked her mom if she could play around with her cake tools. Nostalgia and a love for cake inspired Anthony to start making her own. She grew her business quickly and began to have several cake orders in one week.
“I remember during April, May, June (of 2020) it was a whole bunch of grad students who didn't get to walk down the aisle, or actually get to graduate with their class,” Anthony explained. “I had so many graduation cakes, and it was cute that people got to celebrate intimately with their families as well.”
Although business was doing well, Anthony also had some intimate moments with her family during this process.
“It was stressful, it was crazy. I took over my parents' kitchen,” Anthony said. “I think I shed a few tears somewhere in there, which was why the Tiers of Joy really was born."
Five years later, Anthony has become a mom of two and moved to a new state, but she still has kept her cake business with her. When asked what her mother thinks of her business, Anthony immediately said “She’s so proud.”
“When I was making these cakes last night, she was watching me, and she was talking about how the techniques are so different,” Anthony said. “We were chatting and reminiscing about all the different ways cake has grown and has changed.”
But what hasn’t changed is the sacredness of this dessert in her family, because Anthony is carrying on the tradition of homemade cakes for her daughters. So whatever milestone or relationship is being celebrated, rest assured Anna’s Tiers of Joy will bring happy tears with her attention to detail and heart poured into every ingredient.
Flowers and chocolates are great starter gifts for a Valentine or Galentine, but a personalized cake is on another tier of sentimentality. Anthony offers as small as 4-inch cakes that are perfect for a couple to share or, go all out for friends with a larger cake. To order, DM Anthony on her Instagram @annastiersofjoy.

The owners of Oak & Main, Dave and Mary Garner, knew that they wanted to be a larger part of their amazing community in Roanoke. Through this desire, they created a polished American Grill experience and Oak & Main began to come alive.
“When we found the perfect building right on Oak Street, the inspirations followed. We wanted to be what Roanoke was missing, a hidden gem.
The perfect addition to a city steeped in foodie culture to help put Roanoke on the map as the Unique Dining Capital of Texas,” says Mike Jones, operating partner of Oak & Main.
Jones began working in the restaurant industry at age 16. What started as a way to make money with his friends turned into a career that he loves.
“The people that we interact with every day. From the friendly and attentive staff to the bar regulars that might as well have their own stools, to the first-time guests who want to have a nice date
night to remember for years to come. It is the people in the community that have made Oak & Main what it is today, and we couldn’t have done it without them,” Jones expresses.
Oak & Main is meticulous about its service, and that is one of the characteristics that make this restaurant so great for special occasions. “At Oak & Main, we strive for a lively and polished atmosphere that makes you feel both at home and like you are out for a fancy dinner date,” says Jones.
The staff at this restaurant is knowledgeable and engaging in order to create an exceptional dining experience. One small touch done by the staff that makes a larger impact is creating handdrawn cards for special occasions. These cards will be made when the staff is expecting a party for an event such as birthdays, anniversaries, newlyweds, or other milestones. Things like this are what build community and keep guests coming back to Oak & Main.

If you’re wanting to treat your date to a notable Valentine’s Day, the details and extra care from the staff at Oak & Main are what make it the perfect place. For the month of February, Oak & Main will have a special “His & Hers” cocktail, as well as offering a special menu for the weekend of Valentine's Day. If you’re looking to order something from the regular menu, some suggestions given by Jones are the steak frites and wood grilled salmon, or the hand-cut filets paired with garlic butter green beans and their signature cream cheese whipped potatoes. Oak & Main’s high expectations are what guarantee the quality of food when it comes to ingredients and their cooking methods. The standards of the food and their hospitality are what give the establishment its astounding reputation, and their guests agree.
Oak & Main remains a top-tier establishment for date nights and celebrations of all kinds. For more information about Oak & Main, or to see their menu, visit their website at https://www.oakmaintx.com/
