Even though most of us adults are years removed from the classroom, we still are learning every day. Especially if you are a parent of a child or furry friend, they teach us that the world doesn't have to be such a harsh reality and that there is beauty all around us.
My middle school-aged daughter is one of the brightest, most loving people I know. Whether we are going through something tough or we are cele brating a triumph, there is always a lesson learned from our adventures. She is resilient, kind, and astute - basically, my best friend.

Of course, we also have our Bernese Mountain Dog who thinks he is a lap dog - though his size says otherwise! Raising a puppy alongside my daughter this last year has brought my family such joy, even if it's been a little chaotic at times!
But that's the purpose of parenthood, right? Even when we are going through a rocky season in life, we have these innocent children and animals who need us. The unwavering love they feel for us - and the unwavering love we feel for them - is one of the most powerful emotions on this earth.
In the pages of our Kids and Pets issue, we felt compelled to honor the impact our children and furry friends have on our lives and how we can continue to enrich theirs. The New Song School of the Arts, located right in Argyle, provides an outlet for children of all ages to express their creativity and be their authentic selves.
Of course, our pets deserve the best care and love, even if we are out of town or working. The teams at Blair's Ruff House and The Wag Shack provide that additional support to make sure our animals are loved and cared for, no matter the species and breed.
And what would our country be like if we didn't lift up those local businesses, like Nailed It Roofing, which works hard to create a company built with family values and trust in mind?
Whether we realize it or not, everything we do impacts the next generation. Let's give them all the love and support they need, and have a blast doing so!
Enjoy reading about some of the best local ways to support our kids and pets - I know I will.

One couple strives to bring fine arts to all kids
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE W. PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAVANNA ROMANO
Todd and Heather Parks wanted to bring a vision to life when they founded the New School of the Arts. With a combined 50 years of experience in the fine arts, they wanted to create a healthy, fun environment for learners of all ages who are passionate about the arts.

Founded with the concept that it’s never too early or too late to become immersed in the fine arts, New Song School of the Arts offers yearround private and group lessons for students of all ages in music, theater and visual arts. Additionally, the beautiful campus hosts special spring break and summer camps for kids.
“Our dream is that people everywhere may experience the beauty of the arts. Our hope is to do that in a profound way and with a high level of excellence here in North Texas,” shared Todd.
The pair also understand and promote the longterm benefits of introducing children to the fine arts early in life. Through these creative outlets, children hone fine motor skills, learn to positively express emotions, develop critical thinking skills, and begin to understand and appreciate the diversity of the world.
“As parents, we often wonder how we should be investing in our children, how we will see the best return on the resources we’re investing in them or question what is the point of a certain extra curricular activity,” said Heather, who has been playing piano since she was 4.
“Although we don’t know what the future holds for them, whether or not a child grows to be a famous artist, concert musician or Hollywood star, we want to get them under the influence of the fine arts as young as possible and retain them as long as possible so they can gain the benefits academically, socially, and emotionally as long as possible. Through this influence, they will have enriched, healthy, and more wholesome lives.”
With over 60 knowledgeable and accomplished instructors, the opportunities are vast but uniquely tailored to different areas of the schools of music, theatre, and visual arts.
Within the School of Music, children under 4 and their caregivers can participate in Music Together, which is an early childhood introduction to music class. For children 4 to 6 1/2 years old, MusiksCOOL is a preschool piano program designed to be age appropriate and adaptive. For students older than 6 1/2, there are a variety of voice and instrumental lessons offered in private and group settings. Musical group classes focus on garage band, worship band, orchestra and a female vocal ensemble.

Lessons in acting, musical and traditional theatre, television and film fall under the School of Theater. MainSTAGE theatre productions in the facility’s black box theater give students the opportunity to act on stage in a full cast.
The School of Visual Arts hosts private and group lessons for students of all ages using a variety of mediums to spur creativity. Offerings include special events such as art competitions and paint and sip parties. These are all held in the new visual arts center.
“We're reaching families and enriching lives from newborns all the way to senior adults,” Todd said. “Our youngest student is 8 months old and our oldest student is 85 years old.”
Included on campus are several spaces that are also available for rent, including the recital hall, black box theater, and the Arts Center. These spaces provide a versatile backdrop for birthday parties, bridal showers, galas, fashion shows and other events.
“We love being able to enrich the world around us by what we have to offer,” shared Heather. “God is using us to bring light to the community through the fine arts, and we are so blessed to serve the community with the beauty of the arts.”
The New Song School of the Arts is located at 1624 FM 407 E. in Argyle. For more information, visit newsongschoolofthearts.com or call 214-915-2787.

The

Brothers Ben and Andy Hedric opened The Wag Shack in 2020 with the idea of providing a comfortable, fun and safe place for dogs to stay for both day and overnight visits, giving pet owners peace of mind during busy times.
“We believe that dogs are family,” shared Ben. “We wanted to create a space where we know that the dogs are being taken care of to the level they deserve.”
The Wag Shack offers Playcare, a daytime program for dogs to enjoy supervised social time with other dogs. The structured setting ensures the dogs have positive experiences and interactions, which reduces negative reactions and behaviors both now and later.
“In our facility, how dogs meet other dogs is very controlled,” explained Ben. “Certain dogs are better than others at understanding social cues. So, when you bring your dog in, we can make sure it gets to interact with a socially intelligent dog who probably is not going to push too many boundaries in the wrong way.”
Bringing a new dog into the play pack begins during a required and free Playcheck visit, which lasts between two and four hours. The visit allows staff to get to know the dog’s personality, watch the dog interact with others, and slowly assimilate the dog into the pack. The Playcheck visit is not only helpful for the staff but highly beneficial for dogs, especially those who are shy or deal with separation anxiety.
Overnight boarding, called Sleepovers, is an extended version of Playcare where pets spend the night in addition to playing with the pack during the day.
CONTINUED
“We wanted to create a space where we know that the dogs are being taken care of to the level they deserve.”
“We've seen how boarding is done in a lot of places, and we want The Wag Shack to be more like a home, not a shelter or kennel,” said Ben. “It’s really important to us that dogs feel like they’re going into a home environment that is clean and slightly familiar. It’s also our goal that dogs are not in a kennel unless they want to be in their kennel. So, most of the dogs who come to stay with us, those boarding included, are out for the day running in a pack.”
The facility houses three yards where dogs have access to both inside and outside play areas. Staff monitors the dogs to ensure all is well by having frequent contact with them and reading the energy of the pack.
“We have a 15-minute rule. Everyone should be getting acknowledged, being pet, talked to, and played with by a staff member at least once every 15 minutes,” Ben explained. “Additionally, one of the things we've learned is that in order to control the energy, we have nap time every day, sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
"We shut down the lights, it's quiet, and everyone goes back to their kennels for a break. We've noticed that if we make sure that happens, the afternoon goes a lot more smoothly with less conflicts.”
In addition to Playcare and Sleepovers, the Wag Shack offers grooming for furry friends. Providing all three services in one location reduces stress for both pets and their parents.
The Wag Shack is located at 308 FM 1830 Building #15 in Argyle. For more information, visit thewagshack.com or call 940-241-2111. Photos, hours of operation, and services can be found on The Wag Shack’s Facebook and Instagram.

NAILED IT ROOFING OWNERS RACHEL AND DAMON EINCK SHARE HOW THEY BALANCE THEIR BUSINESS AND RAISING THREE SMALL KIDS.

Shingles, diapers and tubs – oh my!
Those are a few of the typical things Rachel Einck juggles daily. Einck owns Nailed It Roofing, a roof and construction business with her husband,

Damon. The two have been in or around the industry their whole lives, so the decision to go into business together was a natural one.
“Damon was an installer back in the day and I’ve been helping with church builds and roofing services since I was a kid,” Rachel explained.
The choice wasn’t without its hurdles. Rachel is not just a business owner, but a mother, as well. She and Damon share three children with their youngest under a year old. How do they manage it all?
“It was a struggle at first,” Rachel laughed. “But we learned it’s important to schedule time out for family-focused fun each weekend.”
Most importantly, they learned that there’s a time and a place for work, and it’s not at the dinner table. When they
They also go wherever the kids are happiest, including the Fort Worth Zoo and the Botanical Gardens.
Balancing life as a mother and a businesswoman brings plenty of challenges, but Rachel wouldn’t change it for anything else.
“My husband and I have a special love for roofing. So many in this industry are salesmen and they’re good at it, but they don’t know how a roof should be installed, let alone how it should work,” she said.
That’s what Nailed It Roofing does differently. The Eincks are proud that this company is built on integrity and taking care of owners while staying within the law.

What do your pets do all day? By having a daily visit from Blair’s Ruff House, the team can tell you the ins and outs of what your animal does during their version of a staycation.
Blair’s Ruff House is a mobile pet-sitting service with 13 employees serving over five hundred families in the Northlake, Argyle, Lantana and Bartonville areas.
BLAIR’S RUFF HOUSE GIVES ANIMALS A FIVE-STAR STAYCATION

“WE CAN TAILOR OUR SERVICES TO YOUR NEEDS, SO WE CAN COME BY DAILY, WEEKLY, OR AS MANY TIMES AS NEEDED.”
“We go to people’s homes to care for their pets while they’re away. We can tailor our services to their needs, so we can come by daily, weekly, or as many times as needed,” owner Blair Munger said.
Blair’s Ruff House began seven years ago when Munger decided to return to work once her son was in school full-time. While she could have gone in any direction, she decided that pet sitting would best suit her skills and address the needs of her community.
The business started by catering to typical household pets such as dogs, cats and gerbils. Today, Munger and her team can care for a wider variety of animals, including reptiles, birds, horses and donkeys.
Munger explained that most people don’t know that businesses like hers exist. Farmers, for example, rarely go on vacation because they have no one who can watch their animals. Through Munger and her team, they are able to take those getaways knowing that their animals are being fed, pens are being cleaned, and they are safely locked away at night.
“People began to learn of us and started asking if we could look after farm animals,” Munger says. “So, we spent just as much time on farms as we did in homes to care for all kinds of animals.”
However, Blair’s Ruff House doesn’t cater just to livestock.
“Anyone who has to work full-time or be away from their home can use us,” Munger said about those who need pet-sitting services.
One perk that Blair’s Ruff House offers is the team even provides real-time updates for anyone who requires them, giving pet owners peace of mind that their companions are doing well.
“Pets look to us as a companion and give us a sense of purpose,” she said, explaining why it’s important to make sure pets are thoughtfully cared for.

From family fun nights and Bible studies for our kids to personal discipleship, local service opportunities, and of course, fun competition for our middle and high school students, we point our young people to being doers of the Word (James 1:22).
