Invest In Your Dreams

LIFE + CULTURE

BUILDING BUSINESS, MAKING TIME FOR FAMILY FUN, PREPARING YOUR HOME

Spend Your Time and Your Money Wisely

When we hear the word investment, we often think of finances. But true investment is broader than dollars and cents — it’s about what we choose to protect, support and prioritize.

In this month’s issue, we explore what it really means to invest in the place we call home.

For many of us, our home is our greatest tangible investment. Protecting it isn’t just practical — it’s proactive. From thoughtful maintenance to preventative pest control with Truly Nolen Pest & Termite Control, caring for our homes ensures they remain safe, comfortable spaces where memories are made and milestones unfold. Protection today preserves peace of mind tomorrow.

Investment also extends beyond our front doors. In this issue, we’re honored to highlight local nonprofits that are pouring their time, energy and resources back into our community. Supporting these organizations — whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness— is an investment in the future of Northlake. Strong communities are built when we choose to show up for one another.

And sometimes, the best investments aren’t financial at all — they’re about how we spend our time. With the excitement building for the upcoming NASCAR event at Texas Motor Speedway, we partnered with the organization to share tips to help you make the most of the experience. Whether you’re a longtime racing fan or attending for the first time, investing your time in shared experiences creates lasting memories with family and friends.

This month, I encourage you to think intentionally about where you’re putting your resources, energy and time. When we invest wisely in our homes, our community and our relationships, the return is something far greater than profit. It’s stability. It’s a connection. It’s a life well-lived.

With gratitude,

April 2026

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

BY THE BOOKS

An Accounting Firm Helping Small Businesses Invest In Their Dreams

Entrepreneurship often begins with passion and a leap of faith. While there is plenty of uncertainty in starting a business, a strong partnership can ensure business owners are able to invest in their dreams.

Sara Wolfe, owner of By the Books.
“Stop thinking, ‘Well, I’m just a small business.’
Today you are ... but who knows what you could be.”

By The Books is an accounting firm that helps small businesses and entrepreneurs manage their finances by providing bookkeeping, financial analysis and payroll services.

Sara Wolfe, the owner of By the Books, and her team work with clients ranging from electricians to doggy daycares to nonprofits. Their services complement the work of a certified public accountant (CPA) who manages end-of-year taxes.

“A CPA is very big picture,” Sara said. “They are looking at all of the different pieces of a great big pie, whereas a bookkeeper is very fine-tuned into tedious transactional details.”

Sara provides free consultations, starting with a questionnaire and a virtual meeting to discuss a client’s financial needs.

“Opening up your books to somebody you don’t know is scary,” Sara said. “I help ease those fears and

let them know that everything's going to be okay and we have their best interests at heart.”

Following a consultation, By the Books operates in two phases: project and maintenance. The project phase consists of going as far back as necessary to clean up a client’s books through the present day. Once compliant, clients can move right into day-to-day maintenance.

While many bookkeeping firms will charge clients based on a percentage of revenue made, By the Books’ business model charges based on transaction volume. They also offer three tiers of service: compliance, professional and growth.

Beyond standard bookkeeping services, the professional tier provides clients with financial analysis and can include back-office support, such as payroll and sales tax.

The growth tier is By the Books’ premier offering which includes both the previous tiers’ services, as CONTINUED >

well as in-depth reporting and strategic meetings focused on a business’s long-term growth. This is where Sara’s passion for helping her clients succeed shines.

“I am trying to get people to stop thinking, ‘Well, I'm just a small business,’” Sara said. “Today you are, but tomorrow, or six months from now, who knows what you could be.”

By the Books supports many small business owners throughout their entrepreneurial journey, including Dr. Tory Schoonmaker, a physician and owner of Vital Spine Therapy chiropractic clinic.

Dr. Tory specializes in spinal decompression, chiropractic care and rehabilitative therapy with over 16 years of experience. The biggest challenge he faced when opening his own practice was that his responsibilities quickly expanded.

Suddenly, he found himself wearing many hats, not only taking care of clients, but also being responsible for payroll and advertising. He needed to delegate, so he reached out to By the Books.

“The partnership with Sara makes my life significantly easier,” Dr. Tory said. “She does all the end-ofday closing and makes sure everything goes where it's supposed to go, so I don't have to worry about it; it’s fantastic.”

Dr. Tory said partnering with By the Books is, in one word, easy, and he described Sara as a “great accountability partner.”

“As a small business owner, people that you can absolutely trust are really hard to come by,” Dr. Tory said. “I never have to worry about that with Sara.”

Even more so having recently opened a second office in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, he appreciates how he can count on By the Books to manage his finances, freeing his time to focus on what matters most: his patients.

“Now that I'm older, and maybe a hair wiser, I realize that working smarter, not harder, is the way to get more satisfaction and more joy out of your work,” Dr. Tory said.

While some may not understand the value in hiring a bookkeeper, Sara further emphasized the importance of delegation as a small business owner.

“My question for the client is how much is your time worth?” Sara said. “Because you can do your own books, maybe, but how long is it going to take you? What are you missing out on because you're too scared to let go?”

Dr. Tory Schoonmaker,
Sara offers a welcoming approach to her bookkeeping and offers three tiers of service: compliance, professional and growth.

Sole proprietors, entrepreneurs and small businesses alike – Sara and By the Books want to help their clients tackle financial roadblocks and make their business dreams come true. For more information about By the Books, visit their website https://www.bythebooks.biz/, or call today at 682-220-9288.

“It is never too early,” Sara said. “My consults are free, and you can have as many as you need to get the foundation in place at the beginning. It makes life so much easier.”

IN’PEST’ IN YOUR HOME

HOW DID

YOU GET INTO THE PEST CONTROL BUSINESS?

Pest control wasn’t initially on my radar as a career, and prior to joining Truly Nolen Pest & Termite Control, I was working in retail and food service. One day, a technician came to my home for a pest control service, and we began talking about the industry and the company he worked for. He let me know they were looking for a salesperson to work out of the Santa Fe, New Mexico area, and I decided to give it a shot. I developed that area into its own branch within a year, and three years later, the company asked if I would like to move to Keller, Texas, to take over the branch. Since I am originally from Texas, it seemed like a great move for my family, and we’ve been here ever since.

WHAT ARE SIGNS OF INFESTATION THAT PEOPLE MISS, AND ARE THERE ANY PESTS PEOPLE TEND TO OVERREACT TO?

People often misinterpret piles of sawdust on the windowsill as termites, but it is usually carpenter or acrobat ants. Carpenter ants excavate the wood and discard the debris, while termites actually consume the wood; you wouldn’t actually see any sawdust left from termites. One pest everyone tends to overreact about is wasps. If you don’t bother them, they typically will not bother you. However, on the other hand, many people underestimate termites and the damage they can cause to your home.

HOW

DOES LANDSCAPING, MOISTURE, OR STRUCTURAL ISSUES CONTRIBUTE TO PEST PROBLEMS?

The most common landscaping mistake homeowners make is piling mulch in the front flowerbeds directly against the foundation of the home. Mulch is a cellulose material which is what termites eat, so by doing this, you will be directly drawing termites to your home. Combine this with frequently watering the area or bad drainage, and you have excessive moisture, which creates ideal conditions for many types of insects in addition to termites.

ARE

DIY PEST CONTROL METHODS EFFECTIVE, AND WHEN SHOULD SOMEONE CALL IN A PROFESSIONAL?

No, these DIY methods are not effective. Most people will spray bugs they see and expect the issue to be resolved, but almost always, it is not. For instance, ants live in massive colonies numbering from a few hundred CONTINUED >

Truly Nolen team treating perimeter of client’s house.

to tens of thousands, so spraying the 10-20 ants you see in your house won’t stop the thousands of others from continuing to come inside and search for food and water. If you are currently facing issues and have tried treating them without relief, you should reach out to a professional before the issue becomes more difficult to get control of.

HOW MUCH PEST CONTROL IS ABOUT PREVENTION VS. TREATMENT?

It is always best to maintain preventive services rather than reacting only when you have a problem. Whether it's bugs, termites, or rodents, preventative services can help save homeowners from bigger expenses down the road. In regard to rodents, covering possible entry points leading into the home and attic could prevent them from chewing on water or electrical lines that could cost thousands of dollars to repair.

WHAT MAKES YOUR COMPANY'S APPROACH DIFFERENT FROM OTHER PEST CONTROL SERVICES?

We use what is called the IPM approach, which stands for Integrated Pest Management. What this means is that we start with the least toxic and invasive treatment first, and escalate as deemed necessary to address the issue at hand. Our protocol is also more thorough than most, and we incorporate multiple steps to address typical household pests at every visit.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO HOMEOWNERS WHO MAY BE EMBARRASSED TO CALL ABOUT A PEST PROBLEM?

You should not be embarrassed about having a pest issue at your home. It is typically not a cleanliness issue, but rather an environmental issue. You live in North Texas, and that means you have to deal with bugs and rodents. So do your neighbors, as well as everyone else in the area, whether they admit it or not.

With that being said, if you are tired of dealing with your pest issues yourself, consider giving Truly Nolen Pest Control a call at 817-337-9839.

Tripleheader NASCAR

Texas Motor Speedway to Host Race Weekend May 1-3

As soon as your paycheck hits the account, the funds are immediately put to work. This money goes toward the mortgage, groceries, gas, savings, retirement and other necessities, but does your budget have a section dedicated to spending it on something fun? It’s difficult to find an inexpensive outing for a family, but luckily for North Texas residents, Texas Motor Speedway (TMS)

Christopher Bell of Joe Gibbs Racing at TMS.

is right in your backyard and they pride themselves on affordable event pricing. NASCAR is returning to the speedway with a tripleheader weekend, May 1–3, and it is an event the family will not want to miss.

“A family can come out here for a very affordable day. You don’t find that pricing here in the DFW area,” TMS general manager, Mark Faber, explained. “We are very cognizant of our owner and founder, Bruton Smith, who has passed away. One of his mottos was, 'We work for the fans.’ Families are critically important, and so we price it the right way.”

Children 12 and under with a ticketed adult will be able to get into the Friday and Saturday races for free and for only $10 on Sunday. Two adults can purchase tickets for $99 and college students with a valid ID can attend for $25. General parking is always free at the speedway, and they offer a free tram service around the campus.

TMS has been serving its fans for decades and at the upcoming race weekend in May, they will be celebrating their 30th anniversary as well as Cinco de Mayo. Attendees can enjoy live music, free entertainment acts including sea lions, stilt walkers, roaming magicians, dance groups, Fort Hood helicopter flyovers, NASCAR driver appearances in the Fan Zone (located between Gates 2 and 7), and of course, some really fast cars.

“The racing is always going to be core for what we do, and that’s going to be three hours on the track, but the Fan Zone is going to be open four hours before the race,” Faber said. “Fans can get oriented, go out and have a good time. They can kind of get away from everything and come out to celebrate NASCAR and family fun.”

Faber strongly recommends that rookies arrive at the track early. This allows them to not only enjoy the amenities but also to get familiar with the 1,500-acre campus. Ambassadors are located along the 1.5-mile loop to help redirect and assist attendees who lose their way.

There are plenty of photo opportunities for fans to take advantage of.
Joey Logano of Team Penske – 2025 WÜRTH 400 presented by LIQUI MOLY winner.
Dad and daughter gearing up for the race.

TMS will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo on the May 1-3 race weekend.

Fans can experience free entertainment and photoops in the Fan Zone.

Other important tidbits fans should know before they attend is that they are allowed to tailgate, bring in coolers with sealed food and drink items, seat cushions and they can even camp on the grounds for the entire weekend. These are just a few ways families can save on costs and remain comfortable on race day.

While the speedway may have looked different 30 years ago at its inception, the one thing that hasn’t shifted is its values.

“I think it is important for people to understand our company and our background. We’re based on faith, family, friends and fun, the four F’s, and that aligns very closely with me, personally, as well as professionally, and

many of the staff as well,” Faber expresses. “Our staff here knows that at race weekend we’re going to promote family values.”

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series SpeedyCash.com 250 opens the weekend at 7 p.m., followed by O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 340 on Saturday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. The weekend culminates with the marquee WÜRTH 400 presented by LIQUI MOLI on Sunday, May 3, at 2:30 p.m. Prior to Sunday’s race, fans can enjoy a concert and a swearing-in ceremony for personnel stationed with the U.S. Army Fort Hood. To purchase tickets, visit https://www.texasmotorspeedway.com/ or call 817-215-8500.

Spacious stands offer families to freely move around during the race.

FOUR SIMPLE WAYS TO INVEST IN YOUR MORNING AND START YOUR DAY OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

habits for morning success

One of the best ways to invest in yourself is by creating a consistent and intentional morning routine. No matter how unpredictable or chaotic the rest of your day may become, starting your morning with self-care and purpose sets a positive tone that stays with you throughout the day.  Once you develop a morning routine that truly resonates with you, you’ll look forward to it every night, knowing it will set the foundation for a productive and fulfilling day.

If you’re ready to elevate your mornings, here are some meaningful ways to invest in your routine and start each day on the right foot.

Be Your Own Barista:

One of life’s simplest pleasures is savoring a homemade coffee each morning. While skipping the drive-thru may be tough at first, brewing your own allows you to appreciate the process—and chances are, you’ll end up preferring your own perfect cup of joe.

Get Your Steps In:

An hour-long gym session before work may not be realistic, but a quick morning walk is. Use this time to clear your mind, enjoy nature, and listen to your favorite podcast or artist—an easy way to start your day feeling relaxed.

Enjoy Some Breakfast:

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet often the most overlooked. Setting your alarm just minutes earlier to prepare a fresh, nutritious meal can transform your morning, fueling your body and mind for a more energized and productive day.

Read A Book:

Starting your day with a book is far more calming than scrolling through social media. Reading in the morning helps ease you into the day, providing a peaceful and mindful escape that sets a positive, focused tone for what’s ahead.
