Whether it’s a display of romance, a kind gesture, or a way to show sympathy, gifting flowers symbolizes love. For Stefanie Harrington, these arrangements mean so much more. As a busy mom of two, Harrington started Wildflower Floral Boutique in March of 2023 to fulfill a lifelong passion of creatively working with beautiful blooms. Through her learned experiences and ability to think outside of the box, Harrington makes custom arrangements with the hope of brightening someone’s day. “That’s my favorite part - seeing my clients so happy when I deliver their flowers,” Harrington said. “I like to make things extra special for my clients, and it really touches my heart to see their joy.” CONTINUED >

Harrington has had a love of flowers since she can remember. She grew up surrounded by pink roses in her grandmother’s garden and watched as her parents cultivated vegetables in her own yard. Throughout high school and college, Harrington worked at a flower shop in her native state of New York cleaning buckets, curling ribbon, sweeping the floors and stapling delivery boxes. Soon, she was having fun making boutonnieres and other designs while learning the ins and outs of the floral business. “I’m a romantic at heart, and I love the symbolism of flowers and how they represent love,”

Harrington said. “Especially if it’s something needed to brighten someone’s day, whether it’s sympathy or just the happy moments.” Floral design took a backseat after Harrington graduated college with a teaching degree, met her husband and started a family. Moving from New York to Texas in 2021 put Harrington at a crossroads, and she decided to leave teaching after 12 years to return to her love of flowers. Shortly after starting Wildflower Floral Boutique, Harrington hosted a workshop after a friend from her Pilates club asked if she could teach a class. Through Harrington’s workshops, clients put their own spin on

More requests poured in for curated classes, allowing Harrington to tap into her education background. “I get to do teaching, but in a fun, different way,” Harrington said. “I love using hydrangeas and delphinium and roses - unique blooms you don’t often see. The professional paths people take allow for varied learning and character-building experiences, preparing them for the next great step in life. This is the story of Joe Denney, owner of Valhalla Contracting. Denney spent four years in the Navy with a construction battalion learning the trade and building a camaraderie forged from deployments and daily work with fellow military members. His service was followed by eight years working in oil fields, where he mastered paying attention to detail while working as safely as possible. Then, Denney stepped back into the world of construction on the side of sales, working for large companies and later a smaller firm. One day, a call from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post set Denney on a new course. A homebound veteran needed help repairing his roof, so Denney gathered the materials and completed most of the work himself. During the process, he realized that having a crew would be a quicker and more effective way of helping people. At that point, he decided to branch out and open Valhalla Contracting. “Our slogan is people before profits,” explained Denney. “Obviously, we have to make enough to cover our bills and honor warranties, et cetera, but if there is a way that I can make things better for somebody, that is what I'm going to do.” Valhalla Contracting operates as a full service, insured general contractor. For commercial clients, Denney and his crew focus specifically on roofing. For residential clients, he offers general contracting work to cover inside construction, as well, especially when it comes to residential large loss damage. Denney has the resources and partnerships to seamlessly bring different trades together to safely and

efficiently make a resident’s ideas become a reality. He also partners with a company that specializes in mitigation for large loss damage, such as destruction caused by fire and water, and works with the homeowner to turn a tough situation into something positive. “I really enjoy getting into interior losses and being able to work with the homeowners to turn their loss into added property value,” said Denney. “Many of them were not planning on remodeling the bathroom, kitchen, or wherever the loss is, but I explain to them that by going ahead and doing that remodel now, the money that they spend will come back to them several fold in a few years through added property value.” For Denney, starting Valhalla Contracting isn’t just a way to serve his local area but an homage to his fellow military members. “In the veteran and military community, we have adopted a Norse mythology kind of mentality,” he explained. “We say that if you die in battle then that is a good and honorable death. When one of us passes, we just say, ‘Until Valhalla, I will see you again in the Great Hall.' “So, having brothers and sisters who have either passed away in the line of duty or succumb to their own devices after getting home, it’s essentially a nod or a tip of the hat to those men and women who have gone before us as a memorial to them.” Building trust through relationships is important, and Denney recommends that people get to know their local general contractor before an emergency situation arises. Born and raised in Mexico City, Claudia VillasanaMunoz found her first professional calling in life helping people through medicine. A few years ago, she found her second, bringing joy to others through designing and producing high quality, handcrafted, custom leather goods. “I have always liked handbags and accessories. I grew up in a loving family but with very limited economic resources,” said Villasana-Munoz. “However, the lack of resources did not stop me from admiring and desiring good, quality things. Now that I’m in my 40s, I have the tools and support I need to bring my desire of creating something beautiful to life. “My goal is to produce handbags and accessories that are high-quality, handcrafted and unique. Each piece has a history and a name – like it can tell a tale, and that makes me truly happy.” Each item’s meaningful story begins with the company name, Catrina Curia. La Catrina comes from one of the most recognizable icons of Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations held annually in honor of deceased family and friends. In Spanish, when someone is said to be catrín, it means they are well dressed and put together. Curia means organization, and VillasanaMunoz sees her company as an organization because of the coordination it takes between herself and the design and production teams to transform her ideas and dreams into exquisite products. Using the highest quality leather, each handbag is designed for an elevated sense of beauty, style, and functionality. Catrina Curia offers three main collections of handbags: Artisanal, Blended and Venture. Using colors, materials and designs which reflect Villasana-Munoz’s heritage and love of Mexican culture, the Artisanal collection includes hand-carved bags that often incorporate flowers in the design. This curation also highlights the colors and textures

of Mexican culture and can take up to eight hours to make due to the intricate tooling and painting, which is done by hand. The Venture collection provides functionality with a striking and daring twist through the use of exotic leathers like ostrich and alligator. With a more playful and youthful look, the Blended collection features bags created using a mix of different textures and fabrics. Travel bags and backpacks round out available options. “With the three collections, plus the backpacks and weekender bags, I want to offer something for everyone,” Villasana-Munoz explained. “I think there is beauty in each piece, but that does not mean everyone wants to wear the same bag, which is why I do not limit my designs to only one style of handbag.” Villasana-Munoz takes an active role in each step of the process from beginning by collaborating with the design team on each aspect of the handbag from choosing the type of leather to the placement of design features, such as patterns, zippers and pockets. Once a prototype sample is created, she carries the bag and actively uses it to ensure functionality and makes adjustments to the design as needed. When a design is sent to production, no more than 10 are made, ensuring that customers receive a unique product. Handbags can be easily customized by modifying the color, texture or by adding personal information details like a monogram or company logo. When people pick up and choose one of her handbags, Villasana-Munoz wants them to feel the awe and enjoyment she has experienced over the years when she discovered the perfect accessory. “I want people to fall in love with the products we produce because the bags are made with passion and love to bring people joy,” she shared. “I also want customers to feel special when someone compliments CONTINUED >

When my kids were little, we would address valentines to classmates, deliver flowers to neighbors and decorate the house with hearts and snowflakes (cut from white coffee filters). For dinner, I would make their favorite meal: dessert! Why not? I'd melt chocolate (the good stuff) and let them line up their dippers. They thought dessert for dinner was magical. Of course, I'd fed them a protein-packed after-school snack and served "dinner" early so they could get their sugar wiggles out before bed. Delightful! Happy Valentine's Day!

1/2 cup milk 1 cup heavy cream 1/4 cup whole coffee beans 2 ounces semisweet chocolate (61% Valrhona), chopped • 2 tablespoons Kahlua • 1 teaspoon confectioner's sugar • 1 tablespoon dark chocolatecovered coffee beans, chopped

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, 1/2 cup cream, and whole coffee beans. Bring to a simmer, turn off heat, cover, and steep beans for 1 hour. Strain liquid and return to saucepan; discard beans. Bring the milk-and-cream mixture back to a simmer, add chocolate, and whisk until incorporated. Remove from heat; whisk in Kahlua. Whip remaining 1/2 cup cream and the confectioners' sugar until soft peaks form. Divide the hot chocolate between 2 cups and garnish each portion with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of chopped chocolate-covered coffee beans.
