The holidays are here and the spirit of the season is among us. It's a special time of year in which we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child, whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflect that best. Many of us picked up traditions, such as putting lights on the house and showing off our skills in exterior illumination. We may have picked up that special divinity recipe from grandma to share with our children and grandchildren. This month, we wanted to highlight the magic of the season. We highlighted some of the area's best, from the tasty works of Chef Jenn to River Bleu's collections. We hope we've helped get you in the spirit and helped with some gift ideas. While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community who need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other, extending grace, empathy and love. Happy Holidays! “People are not wanting to sell because they will have to pay more on the next property,” LaBounty said. The same is true for many potential buyers, who are electing to wait because of the elevated rates. But LaBounty points out there are options and opportunities for both parties in the current market. Buyers are seeing more inventory on the market and are not having to get into the bidding wars and paying above asking price as in 2019 to 2021. Inventory is still not at a surplus, meaning sellers are still getting their asking prices. “My advice is do what is best for you,” LaBounty said. “Nothing stays the same forever. If you are looking to move, prices are more negotiable now and you have more negotiating power.” While rates can be shocking now, they are still lower than the early 2000s and late 1990s. There is also the potential for rates to lower. Many local lenders are offering incentives, including free or reduced fees on future refinancing. “There are so many financing options,” LaBounty said. “You can always refinance later. “It’s a great time to buy, which may sound counterintuitive. Yes, interest rates are high, but you can be strategic.” And LaBounty is ready to help clients move into the homes of their dreams. “It’s the most rewarding part of this career,” LaBounty said.

When her sister, Gracie McKall, expressed interest in opening a second River Bleu Boutique location in Northlake, Maddie Waller happily left behind the craziness of corporate life for an opportunity to serve her community in a more personal way. As the boutique’s general manager, Waller seeks ways to build community connections and get to know customers. She wants to know where they are from and how she can help them. “I often ask, ‘Do you live locally or in the area?’ because I truly want to know where my customers are coming from. I want to know their backstories,” Waller said. “I'm local and live right over in Justin. So, this is my community, and getting to know customers and building that relationship is really important.”

“As you learn those kinds of things, you understand that your patients could benefit from this type of knowledge and treatment,” he said. “I’m at this point now because that’s the direction we had to go in our family.” In addition to having a doctorate in physical therapy, Racca is also a board-certified functional manual therapist and orthopedic specialist. He’s one of four therapists in the Metroplex with a significant level of training in visceral manipulation, a hands-on therapy used to help internal organs glide smoothly within the body, relieving pain and dysfunction. New patients should allow 75 to 90 minutes for the first appointment. It includes a thorough patient history, a physical assessment to evaluate strength and movement, and an initial treatment. “We are what your body knows it needs,” Racca said. “Even if all other treatments have failed, we are willing to step into the impossible.”

Jason Racca is breaking the physical therapy mold, moving beyond traditional treatment to transform lives. The owner and founder of R3 Physio in Fort Worth not only treats specific physical symptoms, but also evaluates the entire body to find and address the root cause. “We identify the physical symptoms and then evaluate other systems in the body to explore what could be contributing to your pain,” he said. “I might be working on a patient’s jaw, but I treat down to the tailbone because of the connections. “We treat people with longstanding issues who haven’t responded to treatment,” he said. “We like to offer hope that there’s more out there that can be done.” Racca founded R3 Physio in February 2020 after navigating health struggles within his own family that required unconventional treatment. It led him to read and study outside traditional physical therapy, and he realized the significance of considering the whole person in any type of medical practice.

This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”

The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

“Food isn't just for celebrating. Food is something that is always there, regardless of whether it is a happy occasion or even a really sad occasion,” Russell said. “I hope to bring a spark of joy in whatever situation it is — and that usually involves food.” Russell offers customized, full-service catering for intimate dinners, family gatherings, large corporate events and everything in between. “It's a way to share my love and creativity with folks. I love to cook and understand how ingredients work, in both classic and inventive ways” she said. “When I can share that with someone and see them light up, I know that I have created something special for them, that's where that reward comes in.” For many people, food preparation can be a source of stress, especially during holidays and special occasions. Russell wants to reduce that stress by taking care of those details and allowing her customers to enjoy time with family. “I know that a lot of times people truly try to take on too much,” Russell said. “They want the perfect setting and to be a perfect host, but unless that's what they do every day, it's very stressful and they don't have the time to enjoy themselves. I think that when you can have a trusted partner to come in and give you that joy and take some of that off your plate, absolutely do it.”
