Celebrating Style

September 2026 PUBLISHER

Anthony Rizzo | anthony.rizzo@citylifestyle.com S O C I AL M E D I A C O O R D I N ATO R

September always feels like a fresh start. As summer winds down and the familiar routines of fall begin, there is a renewed sense of energy throughout the Northern Highlands. It is a season of new opportunities, new perspectives, and finding inspiration in the people and places that surround us. Our annual Style issue celebrates those who express themselves through creativity, entrepreneurship, and community. This month, we are proud to feature Justyna Kaminska Cabbad, founder of Palmilla Love. Her journey is one of passion, perseverance, and creativity, proving that style is about much more than fashion. It is about confidence, authenticity, and building something meaningful. Her story is an inspiring reminder that following your passion can lead to incredible opportunities. We also look back at one of our events this summer, our Swing Into Summer celebration. It was wonderful to see, local business owners, and community leaders come together to connect, build relationships, and celebrate everything that makes our network so special. As I continue this exciting new chapter as publisher, I am constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to live in a community filled with talented entrepreneurs, dedicated professionals, and neighbors who genuinely care about one another. My goal is to continue sharing stories that inform, inspire, and celebrate the people who make the Northern Highlands so unique. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes each month and for supporting the local businesses and organizations that make this community thrive. I hope this issue encourages you to embrace your own unique style, discover something new, and continue supporting the people who make the Northern Highlands such an incredible place to call home.

Q: What fall decorating trends are you excited about this season? A: The front entrance continues to be the focal point of every home, creating the first impression for family, friends and guests. This fall, the team is embracing timeless seasonal décor with convenient packages that combine classic autumn elements while also offering custom designs for homeowners looking to create something uniquely their own.

We a r t h e Jo u r n ey HOW ONE BERGEN COUNTY DESIGNER TRANSFORMED A GLOBAL CAREER INTO A BRAND INSPIRED BY TRAVEL, ARTISTRY AND FAMILY

Some souvenirs collect dust on a shelf. Others become part of your story. For Justyna Kaminska Cabbad, the most meaningful reminder of a journey has never been a postcard or a trinket. It's the handcrafted necklace that recalls an unforgettable sunset, the beaded handbag that brings back memories of wandering through a hidden seaside boutique or the woven hat that instantly transports you to your favorite beach. That belief became the foundation of Palmilla Love, a luxury resort lifestyle brand inspired by one simple philosophy: Wear the journey. Live the escape. For more than two decades, Kaminska has lived and breathed the world of jewelry and accessories. Her journey has taken her from her roots in Poland and Australia to the vibrant energy of New York City before eventually bringing her to Bergen County, where she and her husband are raising their two children. Long before Palmilla Love, she built a successful career designing collections for television shopping networks and cruise lines, producing jewelry on a large scale while traveling constantly. But when her daughter, Gabby, was born, her definition of success began to change. "I wanted to continue pursuing my passion, but I also wanted to be present as a mother," Kaminska says. Like many women, she found herself asking whether it was possible to build a meaningful career without sacrificing the moments that matter most. The answer became clear during the quiet reflection of the pandemic. As travel paused and life slowed down, Kaminska realized time had become life's greatest luxury. She no longer wanted to chase airports, hotel rooms and production schedules. Instead, she wanted to build something that reflected the pace she wanted for herself and her family. Then came a family trip that changed everything. While vacationing in the Palmilla area of Cabo, Mexico, she fell in love with the destination's effortless beauty, coastal charm and peaceful rhythm. "It completely stole my heart," she says. "It wasn't just the scenery. It was the feeling." That feeling became Palmilla Love.

Rather than creating another fashion label, Kaminska set out to build a brand that captures the emotion of beautiful destinations and allows women to carry that feeling home long after their vacation ends. Today, Palmilla Love offers handcrafted jewelry made with gemstones, semi-precious stones, sterling silver, brass and 18-karat gold-plated metals, along with beaded handbags, clutches, shoulder bags, hats, coverups and resort accessories created through collaborations with talented artisans in Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador and India. Every collection reflects what Kaminska calls her "Sun and Sand" philosophy, where refined craftsmanship meets the effortless serenity of the world's most beautiful coastal destinations. "We don't chase trends," she says. "We chase destinations." That philosophy shapes every decision she makes. Rather than mass-producing collections, Palmilla Love embraces slow, meaningful luxury. Many pieces are handcrafted in small batches, allowing each artisan's skill and creativity to shine. The result is a collection that feels less like fashion and more like wearable art, thoughtfully created to be treasured for years rather than seasons. For Kaminska, true luxury isn't about excess. It's about authenticity, craftsmanship and the stories each piece carries. "My mission is to help people wear the journey and live the escape," she says. "I want every piece to remind someone of a destination they loved, a beautiful memory or a moment when they felt completely at peace." Her inspiration comes not only from the places she visits but also from the people she meets along the way. Working closely with master craftswomen around the world has become one of the most rewarding parts of her business. As both a woman and a mother, Kaminska feels deeply connected to the artisans whose skills have often been passed from one generation to the next. "My vision is always to translate that feeling of discovery into something special," she says. Those collaborations also create something larger than fashion. Every Palmilla Love purchase supports talented women whose craftsmanship deserves a global audience, connecting one woman's artistry with another woman's wardrobe.

While Palmilla Love celebrates destinations around the world, its heart remains firmly rooted in Bergen County. Kaminska intentionally built a business that allows her to be present for volleyball matches, soccer games and the everyday moments with her family that once seemed impossible during years of constant travel. For her, that balance represents her greatest success. "I've learned that you don't have to choose between your career and your life," she says. "Growth isn't measured by the speed of our climb, but by the depth of our roots." Looking ahead, Kaminska sees Palmilla Love exactly where its philosophy belongs. She plans to continue expanding Palmilla Love's presence in the luxury resort and boutique hotel market, where the brand's Sun and Sand philosophy naturally comes to life. Already found in select destination boutiques, she hopes to introduce the collection to even more high-end resorts. Fortunately, Bergen County residents don't have to book a flight to experience Palmilla Love. The collection is also available locally at Suite 201 Boutique in Ridgewood, where shoppers can discover globally inspired accessories that embody the same spirit of coastal escape found in some of the world's most beautiful destinations. After more than 20 years in the industry, Kaminska says she feels like she's just getting started. Palmilla Love is more than a jewelry and accessories brand. It's an invitation to slow down, celebrate craftsmanship, support women around the world and embrace the memories that shape our lives. Because the best souvenirs aren't the ones left behind on a shelf. They're the ones that allow you to wear the journey and live the escape.

WATER Matters WHY HEALTHIER WATER BEGINS LONG BEFORE IT REACHES YOUR GLASS

When homeowners think about upgrades, kitchens and bathrooms often come first. Yet one of the smartest investments is one they can't see: the quality of the water flowing through their home. Since 1927, Pratt Plumbing Heating Co. Inc. has helped generations of Bergen County homeowners protect their homes with trusted plumbing, heating and water treatment solutions. This month, we sat down with Steve Hopper, owner of Pratt Plumbing Heating Co. Inc., to discuss the company's nearly century-long legacy, why water quality matters more than ever and how homeowners can protect both their homes and their families.

Q: Pratt Plumbing has served the community for nearly a century. How did your journey begin? A: I grew up in the family business, worked alongside our plumbers and earned my Master Plumber's license at 26. I've watched the industry evolve, but our commitment to quality workmanship has never changed.

“You can’t control where your water comes from, but you can improve the quality of the water inside your home.” - Steve Hopper 22

LOCA L’S CH OICE | HO M E SE RVICE S

Q: What has made Pratt Plumbing such a trusted name? A: We've always believed in giving back. Supporting local recreation programs, Scouts and youth athletics has built relationships that span generations. Community involvement is part of who we are.

Q: Why should homeowners pay more attention to their water quality? A: Finished basements and more valuable appliances make water damage more costly than ever. Hard water has increased from four to six grains decades ago to 14 to 23 grains today, damaging plumbing, fixtures and appliances while contributing to dry skin and irritation.

Q: What are some signs of hard water? A: White chalky buildup on shower heads, mineral rings inside toilets, rumbling water heaters and mineral deposits inside fixtures are all signs your water may be too hard.

Q: How can a water treatment system improve everyday life? A: A water softener treats the water that touches you, protecting your skin, hair, plumbing and appliances. For the water that goes into you, a reverse osmosis system delivers high-quality filtered water for drinking and cooking. Together, they protect your home while improving everyday comfort.

Q: Can installing a water softener save money? A: Absolutely. It protects expensive plumbing systems and appliances while helping preserve manufacturer warranties on some high-efficiency equipment. It's an investment that pays off over time.

Q: What's one takeaway you'd like readers to remember? A: You can't control where your water comes from, but you can improve the quality of the water inside your home. A water softener improves the water that touches you, while reverse osmosis filters the water you drink and cook with. Together, they protect your home and your family's health.

Wear Colors That Truly

LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.

KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.

CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.

THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cooltoned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.

BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!

PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

OLD WALL, NEW TRICKS ARTICLE BY PAM REID

HANG UP THE OLD WAY AND TRY A GALLERY WALL HANGING SYSTEM IN YOUR HOME.

One of my happy places is sitting in front of a museum wall gallery. I can admire art for hours, and if I’m with a friend, there’s no telling how long we’ll sit, reflect, and share our individual perspectives. If you’ve admired gallery wall displays in magazines, catalogs, or on social media and would like to create one in your home, it’s much easier than you might think.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:

DESIGNING YOUR GALLERY WALL

CREATIVE ARRANGEMENTS

The first step in creating a gallery wall is planning. Start by selecting a theme or color scheme that complements your space. Themes can be as varied as black-and-white photographs, abstract paintings, or a mix of personal and artistic prints.

The arrangement of your gallery wall can follow several patterns, depending on your taste: • Linear: Artworks are hung in a straight line at eye level, creating a clean and orderly appearance. • Grid: Perfect for a collection of similarly sized frames, this layout emphasizes structure and uniformity. • Salon Style: This more traditional arrangement involves layering pieces closely together, often extending across the wall. It’s ideal for creating a rich, filled look.

• A gallery wall hanging system, which typically includes mounting rails, cables or rods, and hooks. You can find them pretty much anywhere, online or at your local home improvement store. • A collection of frames and artwork. • A level, measuring tape, and perhaps a laser pointer for precision.

INSTALL ATION TIPS: 01 MEASURE YOUR SPACE: Carefully measure the wall space where you want to install the gallery. Consider the height and width available, keeping in mind furniture and other room features.

02 LAY IT OUT: Arrange your artwork on the floor to finalize your layout. This “dry run” is crucial to get a feel for how the pieces will interact with one another. I like to use painter’s tape to create a visual of what my display will look like on the walls.

03 INSTALL THE RAILS AND HANG YOUR ART: Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mount the rails at the top of your wall. Ensure they are level and securely attached. Attach cables or rods to the rails, then use hooks to hang your frames. The beauty of the system is that you can adjust the height and position easily.

04 BALANCE AND SYMMETRY: Step back to view your layout from different angles. Adjust the spacing and alignment as needed to achieve visual balance.
