‘May We Know Strong Women, May We Be Them, May We Raise Them’
Each year, we look forward to sharing this annual LADIES-theme edition, as one way to spotlight the multitude of life benefits that women bring to our homes, community, the nation and the world. In this edition, we also celebrate achievements of some local, female professionals who inspire through their tenacity.

This, too, is the month during which many people celebrate their mother and mother figures, including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, aunts, sisters, mothers-in-laws, teachers and coaches. If giving flowers this year to those special ladies, did you know that traditionally, the “Mother’s Day flower” is the white carnation? Anna Jarvis, one of the founders of the modern Mother’s Day celebration, chose the white carnation as its official flower because it had been her mother’s favorite. The white carnation symbolizes the purity of a mother’s love, so you may want to include a few in a mixed bouquet.
This Women’s edition is a celebration of female professional excellence, but on a personal level, my greatest inspiration starts at home. My daughters, now 21 and 24, are the light of my life and the very heart of why I'm so passionate about celebrating women.
Watching my daughters grow has been my greatest privilege. They represent everything I admire in the next generation: they're fiercely smart, deeply kind and possess a beauty that radiates from their character. I'm so incredibly proud of the women they've become. They aren't just my daughters; they are my daily reminders of why the work we do to empower and uplift women matters so much.

Bucks250PA, official America250PA partner, distributed $20,000 in funding to 19 Bucks County nonprofit organizations to support community-focused projects in honor of the USA's 250th anniversary, the Semiquincentennial, in 2026. The nonprofits were awarded $550 to $1,500 each. “These mini-grants support local efforts to commemorate Bucks County’s pivotal role in America’s founding and its continued historical significance regionally, throughout Pennsylvania, and across the nation,” says Bucks County Commissioner and Bucks250PA Commission Chair Robert J. Harvie Jr.
Madeline Marriott, contributing writer with Newtown City Lifestyle and 2025 Poet Laureate of Bucks County, is completing her master's degree in writing studies this month at Saint Joseph's University. While that's certainly cause to celebrate, she's also launching a children's picture book in May titled Operation Hug to feature "a group of critter friends banding together to make a special suit so their new porcupine friend can join their group hug."
A little color goes a long way, especially for Mother's Day. Turn heads with vibrant gemstone designs by Bassali at Michael’s Jewelers, 920 Antique Alley, Yardley. Whether searching for custom-designed fine jewelry, bracelets, earrings, bangles, chains, charms, mined or lab-grown diamonds, pendants, watches, enhancers/guards or wraps, diamond wedding bands or engagement rings, this family-operated team is ready to assist. They've been serving the local community for nearly 50 years.

Wellness anchored daily life for Meeta Sahu, who grew up in India before becoming a Newtown resident 25 years ago, and overall health still inspires her guidance to others.
“In Indian culture, wellness through Ayurveda (a 5,000-year-old traditional Indian holistic medicine system) is something you're taught to practice everyday: you care for your skin, you nourish your hair and you moisturize your body,” she explains. “Even as a young girl, I was interested in my own wellness. I always had something on my face, experimenting with a yogurt or a lemon mask.”
After completing three years of medical school to gain a scientific perspective on the human body and after experiencing her own struggles with breakouts and acne scarring into her early thirties, Meeta says she realized her calling was in the wellness sector to help other women feel healthy and comfortable in their own skin. “As a woman, we all want to be our best selves, and I knew I could use my experience to help other women feel this way.”
Fifteen years ago, Meeta founded Bucks County Esthetics Center with this 'I can help' mission in mind.
“In contrast to large, corporate medical spas, I personally evaluate each client’s skin and develop tailored treatment plans that combine advanced procedures, medical-grade skincare and long-term health strategies,” Meeta says.
“My philosophy centers on educating clients about their skin while delivering treatments that create lasting improvements rather than temporary fixes.”
Meeta specializes in catering to a wide range of skin tones.
“While navigating my own skin journey, I recognized an important gap in the industry — a lack of expertise in working with diverse skin tones,” she says. “I work to ensure that clients of all ethnic backgrounds, from Caucasian to African American and including Indian and Asian, are able to receive safe and effective skin treatments.”

Because darker skin is more susceptible to scarring, burning and hyperpigmentation during laser treatments, Meeta uses the latest Nd:YAG laser designed specifically for safe use on all skin types, including darker skin tones. “The laser’s unique design, longer wavelength and innovative cooling design allow for extremely effective, safe and permanent results with no down time,” Meeta states.
Bucks County Esthetics Center specialists offer a variety of services, including injectables, chemical peels, HydraFacials, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, professional teeth whitening, waxing, LED light therapy, dermaplaning and Lasergenesis.
“The Lasergenesis procedure utilizes non-invasive laser technology to safely, discreetly and effectively treat fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin textures and tones on the face and neck,” Meeta explains. “It helps manage large pores, uneven skin texture and scars without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. By gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Lasergenesis stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.”
Skincare boosts one's confidence by improving physical appearance and fostering a fresh sense of control and self-esteem.
Meeta’s connection to the local community runs deep. Her husband is a physician in the area, and her son and daughter were born and raised in Newtown. She also is a member of the Bucks County Women’s Wellness group in Furlong alongside Victoria Petty, MD.
“I focus on educating clients about their skin while delivering treatments that create lasting results.”
— Meeta Sahu
“I have women all the time tell me they’ve been traveling to Philadelphia or even New York City for these types of skincare treatments,” she says. “I want these women to know that they don’t have to leave Newtown for worldclass skincare; it's offered right here in their backyard.”
The full-service center's office hours are established by appointments for personalized attention; complimentary consultations are available. Meeta says clinically proven skincare treatments are result-oriented, cost effective, safer and produce lasting results.

Lunachick Boutique opened its doors more than 18 years ago after owner Laura Rothstein says she recognized a community need for a place where mothers and daughters could share shopping experiences during which each could find that “something special” in one boutique.
"We wanted to offer a place to shop for elevated basics, on-trend pieces and that perfect-fit jean, all within a positive, happy, non-pressure atmosphere. The overwhelming response from our very first customers validated we were on to something really special," recalls Laura.
The name 'Lunachick' carries a deeper, personal meaning. As a yoga teacher for 20-plus years, Laura has long been drawn to the energy of the moon and what it represents: balance, renewal and growth. She says Lunachick is her play on “moon girl,” a reflection of both strength and femininity, and a quiet nod to the journey that continues to shape her life and brand.
Fast forward to 2026: "With the help of our amazing customers and staff, we've expanded to three boutique locations in the Philadelphia area and have grown in to what we call our Lunachick family," she adds.
"Being part of the Lunachick family means prioritizing the people in your life that matter. We take care of our employees because they take care of our Lunachick family. We wouldn’t have it any other way."
Lunachick's known for its curated mix of denim, cozy sweaters and lifestyle brands. Summer marks a favorite time of year, dress season, when Laura says customers turn to Lunachick for college and high school graduation dresses, grad parties, summer events and thoughtfully curated selections.

Laura says she and her team believe that they're only as strong as the community that surrounds them. "Philanthropy's part of our business plan since the very beginning and includes supporting local nonprofits through our fundraising efforts,” Laura states. She says they love hosting events that bring people together, especially around holidays and meaningful moments throughout the year.

HALLIE JACKSON'S REPORTING APPEARS ACROSS ALL NBC NEWS PLATFORMS INCLUDING LIVESTREAMING
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY NBCUNIVERSAL
Yardley native Hallie Jackson is really someone to watch, figuratively and literally. She's the senior Washington correspondent for NBC News, and she anchors Hallie Jackson NOW weekdays from 5-7 p.m. ET on NBC News NOW, as well as Sunday’s NBC Nightly News
Hallie admits she loved her time growing up in Yardley. "My early jobs had nothing to do with journalism. I manned the LMT pool snack bar for many summers, flipped countless burgers and served Chipwiches to hungry swimmers, and came home every night smelling so much like fryer oil that I had to change out of my uniform in the garage. I had a short-lived stint working the register at a pizzeria by Oxford Valley Mall, and I also tutored kids for a couple summers near Fallsington," she recalls.
After graduating from Pennsbury High School in 2002, she graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
While she used to visit Yardley often to see her parents, David and Heidi Jackson, they retired to Florida in 2020.
"I was incredibly honored to be inducted into Pennsbury’s Hall of Fame inaugural class a few years ago, and traveled into town for a special ceremony alongside my mom and my best friend from Yardley. Back in the day, we became close while riding the bus together to Charles Boehm Middle," she states.
Local community elements seeped into Hallie's personal nature, shaping her trajectory.
"Coach Ski, or Frank Sciolla, made an indelible impression on me during high school by helping me with college essays, and was always down for a quick chat. I was shocked to hear he remembered me as a student when he made remarks during Pennsbury’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. I teared up. It was an emotional night in every way," she says.
"And my forensics coach was a huge influence on me, too! Former district principal Donna McCormick-Miller, Mrs. M&M, greeted me on my very first day of fourth grade. I’ll never forget her asking that terrified 9-year-old if she wanted to meet her new class. She later worked closely for many years with my mom at Makefield Elementary."
Hallie went on to anchor NBC News’ “Decision 2024” coverage. In April 2024, she became the Sunday anchor of NBC Nightly News. Since launching Hallie Jackson NOW in the fall of 2021, this self-professed fast talker covered breaking news stories each weekday night. Helmed from Washington, D.C., she also takes the show on the road, anchoring live from major events. In February 2020, she co-moderated the NBC News and MSNBC Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas, with nearly 20 million viewers.
In previous jobs, Hallie reported from NBC News’ Los Angeles bureau in 2014; was a national correspondent for Hearst Television in Washington, D.C., and worked at WFSB-TV in Hartford, Conn., and WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md.
While journalism seemed to always attract Hallie, she considered a few other career paths.
"Years ago, I found an old binder I’d made during my freshman year of college, where I’d organized all my potential career pursuits. I loved to write, tell stories, ask questions and get creative, and was thinking about what careers could check those boxes," she explains.
"I’d looked at advertising copywriting, even before "Mad Men" became a hit, and jobs related in political science, but once I spent time in college doing broadcast, I knew I’d found what I wanted to pursue."
Hallie landed a series of internships at WBAL in Baltimore and says working with the team there, including sports anchor Gerry Sandusky, set her on the path she's still on.

— Hallie Jackson

Now, as a big believer in the power of streaming, and "a total Kool-Aid drinker on the strength of fast, free news programming that’s accessible to everyone at any time," Hallie loves what has been built at NBC News NOW. "We see so much growth every year in our audience and who we reach. I hear from viewers that they’re watching most nights, they’re tuning in for breaking or rolling coverage, and they’re coming back after huge developments," she says.
Even though journalism is incredibly competitive, Hallie assures it's also a total team sport. "None of it would be possible without supportive and collaborative colleagues."
When Hallie can get a break from the news firehose, she's been enjoying the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast. "It’s a big hug. And I try to keep up with my book club’s monthly picks, although finding time to finish our selections can be hit-ormiss these days."
Regarding hobbies, Hallie says, "We’re on our bikes around the city and in our neighborhood, commuting to school and work. I’ve tried to pick up both knitting and needlepoint over the last year in my search for a tactile hobby, but I’m legitimately terrible at both so far."
She says she's looking forward to spending time with her daughter, Monroe, and partner, Frank Thorp, for Mother’s Day. "Ro," who was named after Hallie's great-great-great grandfather on her mother’s side, just turned 6 this spring, and they dress up together to do a fancy brunch.
"I also love making sure my own mom gets her flowers on Mother’s Day," she adds.
Hallie shares she values many life mantras, but her team hears often about “dovetail joints." By that, she means being exceptionally precise in crafting small details to add strength to results.

Whether you prefer to dine reclining pillow-side in pajamas or beside a beautifully dressed table, you’ll appreciate an elegant, elevated cocktail to make your brunch menu extra special. So while you’re indulging in a few extra pieces of bacon, savoring bites of flaky quiche and luxuriating over berry and whipped cream-topped pancakes, you’ll be sure to impress with one of these three morning-friendly mixes.

A simple ingredient drink unites the botanical complexity of gin with the rich sweetness of your favorite jam.

• 2 ounces gin
• 1 ounce lemon juice
• 1/2 ounce simple syrup
• 1 teaspoon raspberry (or your favorite) jam
• Spoonful of jam for garnish
1. Add the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and jam to your mixing glass.
2. Add ice and shake for 10 seconds.
3. Strain into a double old-fashioned glass over crushed ice.
4. Top with a spoonful of jam and stir it in while you sip.
Ingredients:
• 2 cups orange juice
• 1/2 cup tequila
• 1/4 cup lime juice
• Lime wedge, for rimming glasses
• Coarse salt, for rimming glasses
• 1 bottle champagne or Prosecco
• Orange and lime slices for serving
Instructions:
1. In a pitcher, combine orange juice, tequila and lime juice and stir to combine.
2. Line glass rims with lime and dip in salt. Pour in orange juice mixture and top off with champagne.
3. Add sliced oranges and limes to glasses and serve.

Sweet and tart combined with classic champagne bubbles make for the perfect brunch accompaniment.
1. Infuse vodka: Tear five basil leaves into small pieces and place into a small glass jar with vodka. Seal tightly and shake, refrigerate, then infuse for at least six hours, shaking the jar occasionally.
2. Make basil sugar: In a small food processor, combine sugar and remaining basil. Pulse until basil is chopped into small, uniform pieces and sugar is pale green.
3. Strain vodka into a glass measuring cup, squeezing basil leaves to release any remaining liquid.
4. Rim glasses: Pour basil sugar onto a small, shallow plate. Fill another shallow plate with water until a quarter-inch deep. Dip the rim of each glass first in water, then in basil sugar.
5. Assemble cocktail: Divide basil vodka between glasses, then add half-cup lemonade to each. Fill glasses with ice cubes and top with seltzer. Garnish with lemon slices.

• 9 large basil leaves, divided
• 4 ounces vodka
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 cup lemonade
• Ice
• Seltzer
• Lemon slices, for garnish

This refreshing twist on a springtime favorite is enhanced with the sweetness of basil and turns the spirit a vibrant green.

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”
