or commitment to community. They are helping others to be their better self through encouragement, physical strength, knowledge, resources, and in some cases simple indulgences we often neglect to enjoy as we tend to give more than receive. You may or may not be surprised to learn that Newtown has a rather large women owned business community. From interactive cooking classes for children, innovative academic tutoring during a pandemic, to cutting edge chiropractic practices that help active adults get back to a pain free daily life. These shining stars are not only providing great services to our community, but are strong role models for our young girls. In order for a charity to be considered by 100+ Women Who Care, the organization must be established (no start-ups), registered as a non-profit 501c3, and serve the local Bucks County community. With a $100 check in hand, members sip wine (or their beverage of choice) and are all ears as three local non-profit organization pitch their story. Once all three have presented, the members cast their vote for one of the worthy charities. While Lynne and a small crew tally up the ballots, the rest of the members nominate more organizations, and three new charities are randomly drawn and given the opportunity to pitch their story at the following meeting. After the night’s recipient is announced, checks are distributed, and the meeting is adjourned…. It’s as simple as that! However, what’s not quite as simple is deciding on which organization to vote for. I posed the question, “why not split the gift three ways?” Lynne explained how heart-wrenching it can be, as all groups are so deserving, but granting the larger sum to a single charity can make a much greater impact. LILY LEONG

Owner, Lily’s Chocolate Paradise I’m a chocolatier and my business started with my love for chocolate-covered pretzels which I learned to make many years ago while I was working full time as a legal assistant. Over the years I started selling my chocolates at craft shows, hospitals and corporate sites and in 2017, after over three decades, I left the corporate legal world. In August 2019 I bought a bakery and converted it into a chocolate store and opened in late October, a few months before the pandemic hit. Luckily, chocolates are comfort food! WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO LAUNCH YOUR BUSINESS? My passion for making chocolates and spreading the chocolate love. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK? I enjoy making chocolates, packaging, meeting fellow chocoholics and especially interesting people from all walks of life. WHAT MOTIVATES YOU PROFESSIONALLY? I love my job, every aspect of it! I wake up every morning excited for another day at my store. Chocolates are a happy business! GREATEST SUPERPOWER? Being able to work very long hours - 15+ hours or more, 7 days a week. WHAT PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? Working very hard with determination to turn my passion and hobby into a successful second career which also brings joy to others. WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU? I love making chocolates but do not enjoy cooking. WORD OF INTENTION FOR 2021: Determination. Thank you to everyone for supporting small local businesses - we couldn’t do it without you! Chocolate hugs!
