The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the conscious expression of gratitude. Its focus is spending time with those that you love and encourages giving back in a meaningful way. While ambition, competition and slaying goals can be very healthy, forgetting to place importance on being present, enjoying the ride and appreciating those around us that have helped us along in our journey, can leave us missing out on what truly matters. We’ll never be content if we look outside ourselves and at our possessions or titles to determine if we are fulfilled. True contentment comes from within and from fulfilling who we were made to be. I am profoundly grateful for the unwavering support of my family throughout this incredible journey. Their support has not only fueled my determination but also given me a profound sense of purpose in contributing to and becoming an integral part of the community, which is where my heart truly finds its happiness. It feels as though divine intervention played a role, as if God himself moved mountains to make this remarkable journey possible. National Night Out, an annual highlight for New Braunfels residents, stands as a testament to the department's commitment to building stronger neighborhoods. "National Night Out is an opportunity for residents to come together, get to know each other, and build connections," Officer Crawford explains. This event not only brings neighbors closer but also reinforces the idea that communities working in harmony are less susceptible to criminal activities. "Even though New Braunfels is growing, it still works on having that small town feel. National Night Out in New Braunfels is very well attended. Dozens of neighborhoods across the City host block parties, some small and quaint, others are large productions with bounce houses, games, food, and live music! As we speak, there are 63 neighborhoods registered for the 2023 National Night Out event. Many other communities don’t have nearly that level of participation." "Coffee with a Cop" is another innovative program that demonstrates NBPD's dedication to transparency and approachability. Officer Crawford notes, "In a relaxed setting, residents can share their concerns and ideas with officers over a cup of coffee." "It helps officers and residents have a better understanding of each other and really promotes community policing." It's a simple concept that yields remarkable results—strengthening the relationship between those who serve and those who are served. The "Kops & Kids" event at Landa Park is an occasion that both children and officers eagerly anticipate. This event not only offers a day of fun and games but also creates lasting memories for the young residents. "Year after year, [dispatcher] Olivia Lozano diligently brings as many resources as possible together to develop an event that will forever create a positive memory in the minds of local kids. I cannot begin to tell you how many smiling faces there are from the interactions between our Officers and the children of our community." This event, filled with games, equipment displays, K-9 Unit demonstrations, and the chance to win bicycles, leaves a lasting impact on young residents. It's these positive interactions that shape their perception of law enforcement and build trust from a young age.

School Resource Officers also play a crucial role in our community, fostering a sense of safety and trust within our schools. It’s Pumpkin Bread Season

The Perfect Recipe For Some Autumn Comfort

Ingredients: • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1 teaspoon nutmeg • 1/2 teaspoon ginger • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin • 1 1/2 cups sugar • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or canola oil • 1/2 cup melted butter • 2 eggs Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda and baking powder, spices, and salt. Set aside. 3. Combine the oil, butter, and vanilla in a liquid measuring cup. 4. In a mixing bowl (with a paddle attachment), beat the pumpkin, sugar, and eggs until combined. 5. Turn the mixer to low and slowly add the liquid ingredients. Let this process take about 1 to 2 minutes so the mixture becomes light and fluffy. 6. Using a spatula, fold the dry ingredients into the wet and slowly fold until the ingredients are blended. 7. Prepare a 10 x 5 loaf pan by buttering it really well and then adding a strip of parchment paper to the bottom and up the sides for easy removal. 8. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 1 hour. The bread will be fully risen in the center, like a loaf. Make sure it’s fully cooked and brown on the top otherwise it will fall in the middle once removed from the oven.

Are you planning to dine al fresco this fall? Create an earthy, fall garden party on the porch by using natural, organic elements, greenery and flowers. To make a statement, create a floral chandelier by hanging flowers upside down above the table using fishing wire (if your space allows).
