As summer begins to wind down and the start of school commences, the carefree days of slower morning routines and spending more time adventuring is exchanged for busier school and sport routines and schedules. The summers tend to progressively feel like they fly by the older we get, as do the years, but the simple pleasures of summer never get old. Although the routine of school for our children is often a welcome friend by the time August rolls around, it is generally a little bittersweet. Due to the generosity of our friends at The Bayfront Inn, we set out to explore the adventures of a pontoon boat and Keewaydin Island. Thanks to my friends Maria, Dani, Berta, Valeri and Keri. On June 1st, we had a great networking event at Naples Motorsports. Special thanks for our friends at Nauti Coconuts for custom logo coconuts, Carls Wine bar for picking and serving amazing wines for us to enjoy. The Whitcomb Group and the partners at Club NV for their partnership and throwing a great after party. Dragon Horse Agency for the partnership and for introducing us to the great work of the Collier County 100 Club. Of course, thank you to all of our friends who attended our special evening and continued support. Enjoy this issue full of furry friends we met in Naples. “DOGS NEVER BITE ME. JUST HUMANS” – MARILYN MONROE Growing up, pets came into our household by default. Neighbors moved and we adopted Taja, an Australian Sheepdog who nipped at my jacket every winter as we zoomed down the hill on a toboggan. A cat showed up on our front porch and with indifference, my mother named her Calico. Later, my brother returned from Colorado after a break-up and brought a giant dog, Mercy - part Malamute, Newfoundland and Bouvier. We loved them all! Now, I have two cats, Johnny and Tommy, who are as annoying as they are lovely. But, aren't we all? Enjoy these fabulous photos by Samantha Bloom, who carries her camera wherever she goes (lucky for us). She found people softened and mellowed when side by side with their dogs and she enjoyed every single encounter. Woof!

THINKING OF GETTING A PET? YOU’LL GET NO ARGUMENT FROM ME. Dr. Jennifer Simmons recommends a furry companion. Last January, my dear friend Francine asked me to watch her toy poodle, Bailey, for two months. This may seem like a big ask, but Francine was thinking what most people think of me…She already has three dogs, what’s one more? I am a lifetime dog owner. For as long as I can remember, I have had a (big) dog. I can personally attest to the joys of pet ownership. At various times in my life I have had dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, Guinea pigs, hamsters, frogs, fresh water and salt water fish, the dreaded hermit crabs, and a tortoise. I pretty much run a zoo. Given all my experience, I could never have predicted the effect that my temporary boarder, Bailey, could have on me. The health effects from dog and cat ownership is undeniable. Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, abate loneliness, inspire exercise and playfulness, and even improve your heart health. Having an animal can help children grow up to be more secure and active. It also

lessens the chance that children will suffer from allergies and eczema. On the other end of the spectrum, pets provide valuable companionship for older adults.

Of course there are downsides to pet ownership. They are a huge responsibility. They need to be fed, cared for and loved. I fell in love with Bailey. So much so that when he left I felt a gaping hole in my heart that needed to be filled. So, in April, we welcomed Teddy to our family. It was the best decision I ever made.

HERE ARE SOME OF MY TIPS TO SHOP FOR VINTAGE FASHION PIECES: • Get inspired before you shop. Before heading out to get the right item, create a mood board for inspiration (photos will help to narrow down your decision and what you are looking for).

• Another great tip is to always inject a hint of your personality to the outfit, no matter what! • You don’t want to look like you just came out of a 1920s movie, so balance out any vintage top, for example, with modern styled shoes or pants. • Pick garments that still look like current trends: vintage shirts, sheer tops, floral dresses, puff-sleeved shirts, long skirts, high-waisted pants, shorts or trousers. Use these tips to master that vintage look, but keep it classy and stylish.

The morning of my spa appointment at the beautiful RitzCarlton, Naples Spa, I woke early, anticipating a very special experience. Staying at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, I grabbed a bike from the valet and tooled around the property before catching the shuttle down to the Beach Resort. Yes, it's still under construction, but the gracious welcome of the ladies and gentlemen on site and careful planning make the spa experience seamless. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples Spa, which completed its transformation in January 2022, provides a glimpse of what is to come throughout the remainder of the resort later this year. A full redesign of the 51,000 square-foot luxury spa provides a sense of place, with light coastal hues reflective of the seaside destination. I was in good hands with my aesthetician Mimi, who offered three different essential oil scents for me to chose from. Her deft touch, from decades of experience at RitzCarlton spas proved to be the balm I needed. Treatments incorporate local herbs and botanicals, as well as stones from the Gulf. The expansive spa facilities include a healing steam room, saunas and aqua lounges, along with an outdoor mineral pool and a contemporary fitness center with the latest equipment. Upon completion in December, the resort will offer more than 90 suites, bringing the resort’s inventory to 474 guest rooms and suites. In addition to the new tower, the resort will also debut a full renovation of all accommodations, an expansive Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge featuring ocean views, three new culinary and beverage concepts, a fully revamped spa experience, as well as new bungalows and cabanas to complement the resort’s three new pool areas. Within the resort’s newest tower, an all-new RitzCarlton Club Lounge will be unlike any other in the brand, spanning 4,000 square-feet with dramatic floor-to-ceiling ocean views and an exclusive cocktail bar, as well as new concepts and engaging experiences that enliven the all-new space. Executive Chef Satish Yerramilli will debut Sofra, a new vegetable-forward restaurant featuring Eastern Mediterranean cuisines. Steps from the new tower will be a newly reimagined poolside experience, featuring a resort pool for families, an adult pool, children’s pool, hot tubs, and a lap pool for sun-soaked days along the Gulf of Mexico. In the meantime, DO visit Mimi at the spa. Your face will thank you.

This affection started when my parents brought home a little, yet mighty Maltese. As my childhood stories revolved around Touchdown Jesus and our walls were coated in blue and gold, we, like many Notre Dame fans, called him Gipper. Later, he was complemented by my best friend at the time, Maisy. She was a beautiful yellow Labrador with a personality that you could only dream of for a family pet. Every day when I came home from elementary school, I was greeted by two dogs, eight paws and a million kisses. It was pure joy, pure happiness.

When I was young, I had an affinity towards dogs because they were cute, fluffy, and had the energy to entertain a rambunctious eight-year-old. They would lay with me when I was home sick from school and even did the same when I played hooky, with no judgement of course. Even though I felt the impact of dogs at that age, I never quite understood it. It wasn’t until I spent time with Golden PAWS Assistance Dogs that I started to understand the true power of pets. Golden PAWS Assistance Dogs is an organization that trains dogs to serve wounded veterans and children with disabilities. Fortunately for me, I started on the PBS Contractors project team that renovated the old Harley Davidson Building and helped turn it into the state-of-the-art training facility and new home for Golden PAWS. It was there that I met the founder and CEO of the organization, Jeannie Bates.

In my time with Jeannie, I was enlightened by the breadth of a dog’s influence on one’s physical and mental health. While dogs certainly bring happiness and joy, they also have the innate ability to calm, serve, and to be loyal. For a service animal, that makes a dog the perfect match for a wounded veteran or a child with a disability. Combining a dog’s natural connection to humans, with Jeannie and her team’s training, these dogs truly transform human lives. Pets are more than animals. Pets are healers, counselors, and companions.
