LIFESTYLE LETTER

Hospitality for the Holidays The holidays are here and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflects that best. In this issue, we celebrate a local restaurant with grand aspirations, Lake Park Diner. I love the food and the physical space, but find the hospitality of the entire staff is second to none. This holiday season will surely be different than years past. I will be staying here going out on Fifth and continuing our efforts to bring help and awareness to those in need in our Naples community. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community who need assistance or who are alone. My wish for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other by extending grace, empathy, and love. Happy Holidays! Sincerely,

HERE ARE GLENN AND MORGAN’S PICKS FOR WHAT MAKES THE DESIGN SPECIAL:

Fifth Avenue's New Designer ARTICLE BY NAPLES CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF

The inspiration for this lovely space sprung from competing personal styles of traditional and contemporary to create a cohesive coastal design. Throughout the property, the designers selected neutral and classic finishes for flooring, cabinetry, walls, and tiles alongside complementary accents of color and pattern to thoughtfully blend these styles together and create a warm and vibrant space for the homeowners.

"Next year, we are excited to unveil our new showroom and design studio in the heart of Naples,” says Glenn Midnet, President and CEO of Design West. “As the first interior design firm on Fifth Avenue, we’re looking forward to showcasing our firm’s distinctive approach to luxury interiors to our clients first-hand in this combined showroom/studio space," explains one of the lead designers at Design West.

1. Custom cabinetry: Enhancing beauty and functionality, the custom dark-wood shelving acts as a key component to organize and display the homeowners’ collectibles. To add contrast, we chose to line the shelving with off-white wallpaper to build upon the neutral color palette within the room. 2. Light fixtures: Uniquely crafted from coconut, we brought in this light fixture to add layers of texture and complement the curves of the furnishings and accessories. The way the light peeks through the opaque coconut “feathers” adds an unexpected touch and captures interest. 3. Fireplace: To adorn the fireplace, we chose a large-scale porcelain tile that picks up the tones of the white oak floors found within the entirety of the home. By choosing a more abstract tile pattern that enhances the gray tones of the space, the fireplace becomes the focal point of the room. 4. Furnishings & Decor: To counterbalance the room’s angles, we chose to integrate curved pieces for the seating arrangement, picking up the angular shapes found within the light fixture and fireplace tile pattern. To create a more curated and luxurious feel within the room, we brought in furnishings featuring a variety of textures.

The Modern Diner Lake Park Diner, born in Naples, growing across the state and beyond. ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMANTHA BLOOM

There’s a secret sauce added to each and every dish at Lake Park Diner, a special recipe that will be rolled out in a new location next year in Bonita Springs and two more locations soon after. It’s the people. The service. The heart. The fast-casual restaurant concept, created by the late Adam Smith, brings from-scratch food created with consciously-grown ingredients. Since it opened three years ago, Lake Park Diner gained a tremendous ally and decorated worldwide restaurateur, Paul Fleming, who invested in the restaurant shortly after its opening and plans to expand the concept throughout Florida.

The secret ingredients? Loyalty to the ideals of the brand, a deep respect for peers, and a shared belief in growth for the concept. The “modern diner” brand is all about fresh flavors and high-quality ingredients with a health-conscious vision. The kitchen is led by Chef Carlos Sanz, a Florida native with an impressive pedigree including executive roles with Fleming’s Steakhouse and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. “One of our most popular dishes is the Miso Salmon served atop roasted sweet potatoes, kale & pepita cilantro pesto. We partnered with Sixty South, a sustainable aqua farm in Antarctica to CONTINUED >

provide high-quality, healthy salmon for the restaurants.” Not to be overlooked are the dessert options at Lake Park Diner. “We’ve long been recognized for our Super Shakes, they’re a perfect way to end your meal at the diner! We again looked to partner with a vendor who shares our values and were fortunate to find Royal Scoop could supply our restaurants in Naples & Bonita Springs” says Sanz. Long before she joined the team as president of Paul Fleming Restaurants, Naples resident Colleen Dunavan was a fan. “The menu truly appeals to a broad market and there aren’t many restaurant concepts that succeed with that,” she says. “Lake Park Diner has managed to be successful in offering both healthy items and more indulgent options while creating a bit of a cult following. “So much so that when we announced our expansion to Bonita Springs, North Naples and Sarasota, we discovered many of our guests were already in these locations, making the trip to Downtown Naples just to try our food.” Elena M. Griffin is the Director of Marketing for Paul Fleming Restaurants and is constantly evaluating trends and working alongside the team to ensure community efforts, marketing and advertising needs complement the counter-service restaurant. “We source the best, most sustainable and organic products when possible, to meet the standard for our menu. We're here to make a statement and carve a foundation that future restaurants and diners can follow,” she says. There’s a good vibe when you approach the entrance to Lake Park Diner and guests notice it. “Our staff is always smiling, you’ll hear the faint musical background of The Beatles or Van Morrison as the bustling crowd of guests cue up to order and our staff quickly delivers food to the tables,” Operating Partner, Kevin Kazmerik explains. “It’s a respite from a busy Monday, it’s a memorable dinner with family on the open-air patio, it’s an

Sukie’s Picks

Ridgway’s Sukie Honeycutt’s Wine Recommendations To Celebrate the New Year ARTICLE BY NAPLES CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF

18

PA RT Y P LA N N IN G | FOOD + BE VE RAGE

'Tis the season to toast to our good fortune with the ones we love. We stopped at Sukie's Wine Shop to check in with Sukie Honeycutt, OwnerWine Director, for what to pour this holiday season. Cheers, dear readers!

TOASTING TO THE NEW YEAR WITH BUBBLES Schramsberg Brut Rosé NV $38 This renowned Napa winery makes a killer Rosé sparkler. It is dry and complex, with red berry fruit flavors. Great as an aperitif, but also works with food. Louis Roederer Brut Premier NV $58 This is one of the only Champagnes whose price has not rocketed since Covid and supply chain issues. It has always been my favorite Champagne, due to its consistency year after year. Produced from a blend of different vintages, it is dry and elegant.

OTHERS PREFER A DRY WHITE WINE TO HAIL THE NEW YEAR Three Sticks Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 $49 It is acknowledged by people in the know that the best California Chards are now coming from the Sonoma Coast. Several wineries produce Chards from Gap’s Crown grapes, but this is the best of the lot. It is rich and vibrant, with great minerality and the distinct flavor of green apples. Les Heritiers du Comte Lafon Vire Clesses 2019 $44 When a customer asks me for a recommendation on a super white, I take them to the White Burgundy section. So many choices! I am a fan of any white from Comte Lafon. His high-end wines are super pricey, but his wines from the Maconnais region are more reasonable. This wine is rich and full-bodied, has citrus flavors and finishes on the dry side.

THEN THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE INCLINED TO SELECT A RED WINE TO SALUTE THE NEW YEAR Bergstrom Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir 2019 $52 Josh Bergstrom is a wine genius – every wine he produces is fantastic. He focuses on Pinot Noir, though he also makes two remarkable Chards. This Willamette Valley Pinot is his workhorse. It is produced from the five best barrels of his estatefarmed vineyards. When I taste it, I think of violets and roses. It has attractive spice and minerality. Orin Swift Abstract 2019 $42 This red is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah. It is loaded with dark fruit flavors, like plum and boysenberry, Its quirky label, a collage of portraits of famous people, took three years to compile and three weeks to create. Dave Phinney, its winemaker, just appeared on the cover of Wine Spectator. Yes, he’s famous, but I’ve met him, and he’s a really good guy – down to earth and super friendly.

IF YOU’RE CELEBRATING NYE WITH FRIENDS AND CHOOSE TO SHARE A PRECIOUS GEM A magnum of Antinori Guado al Tasso 2018 $332 Piero Antinori was the first winemaker to defy the wine laws for Tuscan wines when he produced his first vintage of Tignanello in 1971. He has continued down this path of defiance with Guado al Tasso, a blend of Cab, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This wine is awesome, with rich, intense flavors of tobacco, leather, chocolate and black olives. I could only get one magnum for my shop, and it’s waiting for someone to scoop it up! ONCE UPON A GIN Cheers to Rivi Gin ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS

Flavor and storytelling come first for the makers of Rivi Gin, based here in Naples. Rivi Raspberry Honey Gin was released in April of 2021, followed by Rivi Pomelo Grapefruit, both made from botanicals and distillations along with a juniper heavy dry gin base. Fans soon insisted on an iteration of the original motherlode, a gin, wellrounded and juniper-rich featuring hints of rosemary and lemon thyme from the storied farm in England along with botanicals of licorice, cassia, cardamon, almond, coriander and orris root. “The flavored gins came first and immediately gained traction,” says Fil Adams-Mercer, founder of Rivi Gin Company. Fil has been a fan of Naples for more than three decades, and has been here full-time for the last ten years. Co-founder Aaron Sanson, Director of Sales, has been doing business in and around Naples since 1981, having built a professional rapport with cocktail bars, restaurants and distributors, a sturdy foundation for Rivi Gin. “Naples has been nothing but supportive for our business and we, in turn, try to support our retailers and bars with events, donations (after Hurricane Ian) and tastings. It’s a great place for our business,” says Fil. Florida is one the country’s top consumption states (“second or third,” says Aaron), so it’s a natural place to launch a gin business. And, with products made with all-natural flavors, the 80-proof gin is attractive CONTINUED >

to aficionados, as well as tasty, offering a clean flavor profile for discerning sippers and cocktail gurus. “The honey and raspberries that flavor our gins come from the estate where the distillery is located, with zero added sugars,” explains Fil. “This keeps the proof high and the taste, clean.” Rivi Gin is a small batch gin, distilled in Fil’s homeland of England and shipped to Florida where it’s locally bottled, labeled and distributed. That means just 300,000 cases each year are released, making the product not only more exclusive but also closely controlled with love and attention. The brand is inspired by a rich history and colorful story. During the Scottish raid of Lancashire, England in 1138, local troops were recovering from defeat and were inspired to create a better mode of communication for future battles. “A local named Ranulph de Blundeville thought to light fires in towers that dot the rolling landscape including one on Rivington Pike,” says Fil. You’ll see its blazing profile on every bottle of Rivi Gin. Now, Aaron and Fil are blazing trails, with 300 new accounts in 2022 including high-profile retailers like Total Wine and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. In 2023, they will expand into four other states, which means a mountain of paperwork and new relationships. Aaron is a master of both. Together, their story will weave a rich and delicious history of a gin, an idea born in Naples. RiviGin.com

Our Influencers Assure You

VIBRANCE HEALTH: DARREN FX CLAIR MD The ravages that Ian left behind will long be remembered. We have all been through a lot, for many people it has been the greatest stress of their life. The question that comes up: What now? It is important now to restore order to our homes and community. In the short term, this may well be the best way for some of us to cope. Putting our homes back in order is certainly important for our physical as well as mental health. but while doing so it is also important to remember that self-care is not selfish. We must not forget our internal environment while working on repairing the external environment. Unless recognized and respected the scars on the inside may linger longer than the scars on the outside. This can be difficult as the damage to our psychological, emotional and physical health may not show up as graphically or as immediately as the damage to our physical town. Our minds and bodies can and will respond to proper care and will heal if we give them what they need to heal. Try to eat a healthful diet focusing on lots of fruits and vegetables and lean protein, and when possible avoid processed carbs and fast food although for some this may be the only option for now. When under great stress it is always a good idea to take supplements like probiotics, vitamins and minerals. For stress management, it is critical to get regular exercise and get enough sleep. Maintain social ties through whatever means you like, but avoid reliving the devastation over and over again on social media. Although an occasional glass of wine or cocktail is a reasonable diversion it is best to avoid too much alcohol as it will interfere with sleep which will compound the next day’s stress. As an alternative consider journaling or seeking professional counseling.

THE FUTURE

ARCHITECTURAL BREAKTHROUGHS AT GOLDEN OAKS

LIVING

When a home design transcends four walls, uses new materials, and builds boldly into the future, we are nudged into rethinking what HOME looks like. This Napa Valley revival contemporary is intended to modernize a traditional farmhouse design through the introduction of materials such as cast-in-place and boardformed concrete, cantilevered structural steel and large-volume glass assemblies. This new formula is cohesively presented as a single estate, a dream for a large family, a multi-generational family, or an extended family’s new age compound. Once you enter the driveway gate, the vibe is grounded. The enormous gathering space hosts a chef’s kitchen and a walk-in pantry that rivals a five-star restaurant. A dedicated second level for children’s activities and an in-law suite with elevator access, plus a screening room and wellness center (home gym with spa amenities) are unique and smartly designed. “This home incorporates building elements that are rarely used together in Southwest Florida residential architecture,” says realtor Patrick Dearborn, listing agent. “This is a $9 million one-of-a-kind build that will turn heads.”

The City Lifestyle

Giving Campaign Now in its third year, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign will give away $300,000 this holiday season to help individual community members who would benefit from a helping hand during their time of need. But they need YOUR HELP to make it happen! Maybe you know of a single parent struggling to provide, an elderly person who has experienced loss, a child enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need—even if nobody else does. To preserve and protect the dignity of every recipient, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized in ANY way. (Even those who nominate others may remain anonymous if they choose.) Last year, City Lifestyle was able to give to more than 70 recipients all over the country by sending checks in the mail through New Year’s Eve. (This year, the goal is to double that number with checks ranging in amount up to $3,000 each.) With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.” Together with Matthew Perry, Chief Sales Officer, Steven adds that the outpouring and gratitude from the recipients was overwhelming and affirmed that this is a tradition they want to continue. “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success,” Matthew adds, “so we in turn want to be a blessing to others.” City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep doing it on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is so rewarding that it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster that culture of generosity.”
