Toasting Summertime Fun at Arrington Vineyard
Securing Summer Fun
Are you relaxing by the pool or lake and soaking in some much-needed Vitamin D? We sure hope so. There's just something about the summer season that brings about a sense of excitement and adventure.
Sure, fall includes favorite flavors and scents, winter has cozy charms, and I can't deny the beauty of spring's freshness. But when the summer solstice rolls around, I’m more than ready for the long, languid days of floating on a boat.
Even if summer doesn't mean three months of summer vacation anymore (because we're, you know, adults) we can still look forward to an adventure by crossing things off our ultimate summer bucket list and curling up with a new favorite beach read.
Just like this warm, sun-filled season has a way of bringing people together, we hope the pages inside this month’s edition will enrich and enliven your experience of the Nashville area this summer.
Hooray for summer,
July 2023

The New Frontier of Fertility Medicine
For couples struggling with the heartbreak of inferlity, the journey to achieving a healthy live birth is oen long, expensive, and both physically and emoonally exhausng.
While in vitro ferlizaon (IVF) offers a promising route for some, there’s another opon that is oen faster, less expensive, and provides a higher probability of producing a healthy baby: embryo adopon.
“Many people don’t know about embryo adopon, even some specialists in the field,” says Jaime Vasquez, M.D., a global industry leader and owner of the American Embryo Adopon Agency in Nashville, a clinic that facilitates over 150 embryo adopons each year. “It’s one of the greatest demonstraons of love there is for both donor parents and adopve parents.”
The Gi of Life
The embryo adopon process begins with an IVF paent who has frozen embryos remaining aer they have successfully completed their family and achieved a healthy live birth or births. Rather than paying for indefinite storage or allowing for terminaon, couples can choose to preserve this precious life and, without compensaon, donate the embryos, as “there’s no currency to match the value of
human life,” says Dr. Vasquez.
“Donor parents are oen so grateful for their successful IVF experience that they want to share that success with another couple going through the same ferlity challenges,” he adds.
Adopve embryos undergo rigorous genec tesng to ensure the absence of abnormalies that would prohibit a successful pregnancy or live birth. The embryo’s DNA qualies are so inmately known that adopve parents can select the gender, race, and even hair and eye colors of their adopve child. The process of receiving donated embryos is private, discreet, and allows the intended parents to have their future children resemble their own features or racial heritage if desired.
The financial requirements, too, are a significant consideraon in comparing embryo adopon with tradional adopon or IVF. Both tradional adopon and each IVF cycle
can cost upward of $50,000, while the enre embryo adopon process is typically less than $15,000 and requires dramacally less medical intervenon for the host mother.
Embryo adopon is parcularly helpful for women struggling with low-quality eggs. “The process is more reliable than IVF because the donated embryos have already received the highest level of DNA tesng, and unlike tradion adopon, embryo adopon mothers can sll experience the miracle of pregnancy, childbirth, and even breaseeding, if they choose,” says Dr. Vasquez.
The American Embryo Adopon Agency does not discriminate based on a paent’s marital status or sexual orientaon.
“Our job is to serve people,” says Dr. Vasquez. “We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to have a family, and it’s a wonderful gi for an adopve parent to offer an unborn child the opportunity of life.”
The American Embryo Adopon Agency is a sister organizaon of The Center for Reproducve Health, a comprehensive Nashville-based ferlity clinic that has helped couples achieve their dreams of family for over 20 years. www.crhnashville.com

a unique, reliable, and cost-effecve path for achieving a healthy pregnancy and live birth.

Skip the chips and dip to instead snag a healthy, appealing snack tray--including fruit and housemade chocolate hummus. Whether boxed lunches, vegetarian food, wrap platters, family-style salads, or cold-pressed juice and cold brewed coffee are being sought for gatherings and special events, The Urban Juicer + Eatery catering staff at 8th Avenue South or East Nashville got it covered.
Urban Juicer CEO Celeste Krenz says they offer on-site corporate catering services that are sure to impress while fueling employees, clients and supporters.
"Our fresh, nutritious options are perfect for breakfast, lunch or afternoon snacks, and we can customize our menu to fit your specific needs. Plus, our food truck makes it easy to bring the Urban Juicer experience right to your office or event," Celeste says. "So why settle for boring, unhealthy options when you can have the best of both worlds with Urban Juicer?"

Catering options range from vegan energy bites, boxed b'fasts and avocado or almond butter toast trays to lunches, assorted wrap trays, cheese platters and cold-pressed juices.
Celeste says she loves the fact they can change the landscape of choices for working people and travelers. "When conferences and travel rule your world, you're at the mercy of planners. Mostly that means caloric-dense food options high in fat, carbs and loaded with lots of fillers. With The Urban Juicer catering, we change the game. No preservatives, no heavy sauces, but the food tastes so good, and it's all made from scratch."
She adds that their fresh juice cocktails are over-the-top for evening parties. "We're featured in many boutique hotels around Nashville. We want to feed you with great nutrition and beautiful, crafted food choices. With our chef, Adam Dimazo, catering is in full blossom at the Urban Juicer."
Being a part of other people's biggest moments in life is something the Urban Juicer team considers as an honor, says Celeste. "For example, our Ginger Baby juice has been combined with bourbon to be served as a featured wedding cocktail, and our açaí bowls are big hits when showering soon-to-be new moms or hosting bridal brunches," she adds.
Celeste says they handle small and large catering needs with made-fresh food and beverage options every time. "We're locally owned and operated, and hope to be your favorite neighbor."
Urban Juicers has three other locations at Nashville Yards, Charlotte Avenue and Hillsboro Village. Overall, they offer juices, smoothies, salads, wraps and coffee.

Exude Confidence This Summer
Non-Invasive Treatments To Look And Feel The Best
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI
Summer is here, and feeling confident in our bodies is more important than ever. Sometimes, people need a little help with looking their best, and today, there are many quick, painless and non-invasive ways to do that.
“One of my goals is to educate people that if they don't like the way something looks, they can get great results without the risks, expenses and downtime that comes with surgery,” says Doylene (Dee Dee) Knapper, owner of the body positivity spa, Radianté, in Nashville. At her new location in Berry Hill, which she describes as very elegant and calming, she is offering the latest technologies in the aesthetic industry.
“There’s a brand new treatment called Sentient Sculpt, and we're the only ones in Nashville that have it at this point,” she says. “It uses microwave therapy, which is 10 times stronger than radio frequency so you can get better results with fewer treatments.”
For skin tightening, cellulite correction and fat reduction, Dee Dee says it works even better than CoolSculpting. “It’s been really difficult in the past to get results with cellulite work, and if you did, it was temporary. But, this treatment has been FDA cleared to be long lasting. It does a really good job with fat reduction too since it actually gets rid of fat cells in the areas that we treat. Once they're gone, they’re gone.”
She has had clients come in and tell her that they haven’t been able to wear shorts or skirts in many years because they’re embarrassed by their legs. “To me, it's like a personal challenge. I tell them I'm going to get them back into those clothing items. As a nurse, I’m used to helping people–it’s just my nature.”
In addition to body treatments, the Radianté team also offers an array of non-invasive facial treatments, such as the HIFU (High Intensity Focused
Ultrasound) Facelift. “It’s a non-invasive way to stimulate your body to rejuvenate itself by forming collagen,” says Dee Dee. “People actually get up, immediately look in the mirror and say, ‘Oh wow, that's incredible.’”
Another offering is the PRX Derm Perfexion. “A bio-revitalizer is massaged into the skin and directly stimulates the collagen production center in the skin that produces an immediate surface tightening and glow,” she says. “If someone has an event or vacation coming up, they can come in the day before. It's unlike other facial treatments like lasers and peels because you don’t have to avoid the sun afterwards. You still have to wear sunscreen, of course, because you always need to protect your skin.”
While Dee Dee doesn’t personally do Botox or fillers, if a client requests it along with one of the other treatments, she has another nurse who can come in to accommodate that need.
Another unique offering is Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) for pain relief. “It uses an electromagnetic field to reset the electrical impulses in muscle cells that have been stressed or injured,” she says. “It pushes out inflammation and swelling and feels amazing, similar to getting a massage. But while a massage is a short fix, this treatment is more long term.”
Dee Dee believes no one should try to fit their body into somebody else's expectations. “When you're confident about how you look, you portray yourself totally differently, and it really has nothing to do with what other people see. It has to do with how you feel about yourself.”

ARRINGTON VINEYARDS YIELDS CHARMING AMBIANCE, EXCEPTIONAL WINES, TIGHT-KNIT FAN COMMUNITY

JOURNAL | FOOD + BEVERAGE
Nestled on 90 acres amidst the picturesque rolling hills of Williamson County lies Arrington Vineyards, a haven for guests seeking an exquisite blend of fine wine craftsmanship, natural beauty, and live music.
Arrington Vineyards winemaker Kip Summers says he and two co-partners--country music artist Kix Brooks and entrepreneur John Russell--meticulously transformed a rural farm into Williamson County’s first winery. "Through our combined dedication, business experience and passion, we cultivated an award-winning winery that quickly grew and has evolved into one of Tennessee’s most visited and widely known destinations, for tourists and locals alike," he adds.
Kip, who recalls that they originally were inspired by the allure of creating the ideal wine experience, says the primary characteristic that sets Arrington Vineyards apart from other wineries is their unique “wine country atmosphere" that’s infused with the sensational spirit of the Music City.
Arrington Vineyards is located at 6211 Patton Road in Arrington, a handy 35 minutes from downtown Nashville at GPS Coordinates 35.84181, -86.69564.
Not long after opening, the team made their mark on producing award-winning wines when their 2004 Syrah won “Best of Show” at the 2007 Wines of the South Wine Competition. Since that first year, they've amassed 300-plus medals at various international commercial wine competitions.
"From our winery's rustic yet elegant Tasting Lodge, to our refurbished 80-year-old barn, guests can savor our wines in several different and unique settings. Our expansive outdoor seating areas and stunning vineyard views allow visitors to immerse themselves in a tranquil wine country setting," Kip explains.
Additionally, every weekend through October, the winery staff offers live jazz quartets playing on the eastern hillside above the grapevines while live bluegrass bands perform at their Grand Barn on the west side of the winery grounds.
Live music scheduled for July is The Lilliston Effect & Bluegrass; Grasstime Band; Reed Pittman Band; Craig Duncan Band; 9 Volt Romeo; Andrew Carney and the Essentials; Reed Pittman Band; Down River Collective; Craig Morris & King Cotton Band; Josh Karas Trio; Art Four Sale Band.
Each Friday, the winery staff hosts "Food Truck Fridays." Plus, for picnics, guests can order meals through Simply Living Life, a Brentwood-based gourmet food provider. Those ordered picnic baskets will be waiting at the winery upon arrival, complete with wine glasses, cloth napkins, dinnerware and a tablecloth. To keep the wine flowing after one has left the vineyards, Arrington offers Kix's Wine Club through which members receive bottles of the winery's award-winning wines four times a year in March, May, September and November. Club members also receive other benefits, such as discounts on wines and merchandise, access to exclusive, member-only wines, preferred pricing on wine tasting experiences and complimentary shipping on 12 bottles or more. There's no fee to join the club and their wines can be shipped to 38 states.
AV merchandise includes branded apparel, home goods, hats, unique wine glasses and corkscrews.
The winery presently has eight distinct wine collections, covering a wide range of styles from dry to sweet, including reds, whites and rosés. Overall, they sell 23 different types of wine, including four different types of sparkling wine. On-site they also sell wine flights and two flavors of “Frosés” (frozen rosé wine slushies).
"Arrington is a destination that encapsulates the spirit of Music City with the elegant ambiance of wine country. Our commitment to excellence, and dedication to providing an extraordinary experience, make us a standout in the wine world," says John. "Whether you're exploring the vineyards, indulging in a tasting flight, or simply relishing the breathtaking views, Arrington Vineyards promises to leave a delightful lasting impression on your heart and palate."

Cool Off With Summer-Friendly Beers
Jackalope Brewing's CEO Bailey Spaulding Shares Her Top Picks
Jackalope Brewing Company may be named after a mythical creature, but the success story of a beer-loving law student who had a dream is a reality. The beloved female-founded beer destination started brewing back in the late 2000s, when Bailey Spaulding, a law student at Vanderbilt, decided to follow her passion of home-brewing with a friend. And thus, Jackalope was born, and the rest is the hop-filled history of one of Nashville's favorite beer brands.
Upon signing the first lease for Jackalope's premier brick-andmortar location, Bailey was joined by Steve Wright, who began as Jackalope’s "biggest fan." He parlayed that into being the first-ever Jackalope intern, and Steve is now a partner of Jackalope.
Everyone agreed that Jackalope's focus was to build a craft brewery that put out delicious, creative beers while being an active force in the community. Its taproom doors opened on May 21, 2011, and the Jackalope team appears to have worked tirelessly to embody those goals ever since.
In 2013, Jackalope became the first Nashville craft brewery to can its beer using a mobile canning company that would come just for the day to package the beer (Thunder Ann was the very first one). At the time, there was no real "beer scene" in Music City. Demand grew faster than a fresh yeast starter, and they eventually outgrew their original brick-and-mortar brewery.
The team opened a second location (The Ranch) in 2018, with larger production plus taproom and private event space, just more than a mile from the original brewery.
Today, Jackalope Brewing is a beloved fixture of Nashville's thriving beer scene, known for its innovative and tasty brews, commitment to sustainability and community, stellar branding and design, and of course, its quirky, hoppy spirit and dedication to the community.
Jackalope beer is now distributed throughout Tennessee and staffers recently launched distribution in North Carolina and Arkansas, with direct-to-consumer shipping through its website to beer aficionados in 44 states (plus D.C.!). Check out Bailey's three top picks for summer beers here, perfect for sipping at the taproom's expansive patio, the pool or lake, or at home on front porches:
1. LOVEBIRD
Style: Strawberry Raspberry Wheat
ABV: 4.4%
Availability: Seasonal (March through October)
Tasting Notes: The abundance of strawberries and raspberries, married with wheat, in each batch of Lovebird results in a light yet flavorful brew. The fruit adds a tartness and berry aroma (as well as a slightly pink color) while the wheat gives it a velvety base.
3. DRINKING BUDDY
Style: Golden Ale
ABV: 5.2%
Availability: Year-Round
Tasting Notes: Drinking Buddy pays homage to the strong bonds formed from sharing a pint with a friend. Bright golden in color, and lightly malty with hints of citrus, Drinking Buddy is a refreshing brew that finishes dry and crisp and has you longing for your next.
2. CASPER THE FRIENDLY GOSE
Style: Sour - Traditional Gose
ABV: 5.0%
Availability: Limited Release
Tasting Notes: Gose is a historical German beer style experiencing a resurgence in modern craft brewing. Refreshing lemony tartness leads the way, with notes of the coriander and sea salt for which the style is known. Like Casper the Ghost, this Gose is surprisingly friendly.
