It can be playing a board game out on the patio, walking a new trail or going out to find a fun cookie place we've never been to before in a different part of town -- sometimes, it can even be about updating the name of a publication, such as we did, beginning with this edition. As you may have noted, we freshened the name of the magazine to MUSIC CITY / City Lifestyle, based on feedback and the desire to embody the full spirit on which Nashville is based. This metropolitan region we call home base is a major center for health care, publishing, banking, automotive, technology and transportation industries. But, it's also known globally as a hotbed of authentically driven music and American grassroots culture. With the city's name itself as a metonym for the country music industry, we felt we should reflect that lightning rod in a heart-felt way. So, we explored names and landed on this new one! We hope you like it and feel at home with it, too. Our desire is that this edition encourages you to make room for exploration. To prioritize time away from the regular schedule of life. To lose yourself on a trail or in a book. To book that trip you’ve been thinking about, to make time for the things that matter most to you, but often come last on the calendar. Dream Nashville Launches Japanese-Inspired Cherry Blossom Pop-up Bar Immerse into spring at the seasonal Blossom Bar, with a floor-to-ceiling floral wall, a life-size cherry blossom tree and a photobooth outfitted with flowers. The pop-up resides in Parlour Bar, which is located off of the lobby at Dream Nashville, 210 4th Ave. North. Anzie Blue Reopens As Live Music Venue, AB

Titans Youth Football Camps

Anzie Blue, the beloved Hillsboro Village restaurant co-owned by Nashville natives, Marcie and Derek Van Mol reopened March 1 as AB, a live music and event venue designed by locals, for locals. “AB is more than just a music venue. It's a community space that welcomes everyone. We wanted to create a place where artists can host underplay shows, album release events and livestreams,” says Marcie.

The Tennessee Titans are committed to the continued growth and development of the game of football. During the month of May and June, the Titans will host a series of youth football camps across Tennessee. Camps are open to all children ages 7–14 years old. Camp includes a t-shirt, a Titans giveaway bag, an opportunity for a photo with T-Rac, instruction from former Titans players and local high school and college coaches. Royal 615 Lounge STEEPLECHASE'S 82ND ANNUAL RACE BENEFITING THE MONROE CARELL JR. CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AT VANDERBILT Many consider the Royal 615 Lounge presented by Conrad Nashville at Percy Warner Park as the Music City's hottest party in an exclusive tent within the Steeplechase infield. In general, the area includes upscale wash stations, a complimentary drink from the bubbly bar, entertainment, snacks, food trucks and a full-service bar for the Iroquois Steeplechase Rite of Passage on May 13. "I'm looking forward to experiencing Steeplechase from the 615 Lounge because not only does it have a great DJ and lively, fun environment, it has a great vantage point of the races," proclaims Megan Miller Salvador. Additional lounge seating has been added in the VIP area this year. An exciting lineup of DJ entertainers also are slated. Organizers indicate the lounge is expected to sell out again this year.

Searching for the best route to explore Nashville while laughing your way through a country music sing-along and comedy tour? Take a ride on the multi award-winning Music City Rollin’ Jamboree. Jenny Carson, owner and comedienne extraordinaire, makes one thing very clear. “It’s a show, not a party bus, but the show is a party. This is a tour of Nashville you aren’t going to find anyplace else.” A TripAdvisor Hall of Fame and Traveler’s Choice Award winner, and featured on "Good Morning America" and HGTV’s "Flip or Flop," the Music City Rollin’ Jamboree celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. Jenny added musician Gil Grand, CCMA and GRAMMY winner, to the experience. Together they’ve created an alchemy that garners repeat business, as well as referrals from previous satisfied customers. Jenny says the idea for the Rollin’ Jamboree came when she and her grandparents took a ride on the Nash Trash Tour. All seats were sold out, and the pink bus ended up leaving a crowd of people behind. That crowd, and memories of the old Dolly Trolley

that used to tour downtown, led her to an epiphany: “This is it. This is the time.” A week later, she purchased a retired school bus for $5,000, painted it, put in a sound system, and the Music City Rollin’ Jamboree was born. “I wanted to make it so my grandparents could get on it – anyone’s grandparents – have a good time, and leave knowing more about Nashville.” Back then, she drove the bus herself, and took a couple of years to develop the tour and find her rhythm. The gates opened once she started making people laugh. “You get on that bus, you put everything down, and you have a good time for 90 minutes. You enter as a stranger, you leave as a friend, and possibly as part of our family,” Jenny says. She texts every rider to thank them personally, and they keep the jokes going. She even occasionally hears from participants when they run into fellow attendees at other Nashville landmarks. “It’s just special,” she says, “when strangers let their guards down with one another and no joke is off limits. We don’t make fun, we have fun.”

And don’t forget the music. Jenny has high praise for Gil. “People don’t expect the music to be as excellent as it is. He surprises people.” Gil leads a dual life. After spending time in his native Canada touring, performing his own award-winning music and traditional country shows, he then returns to Nashville, gets “on a bus, and starts acting goofy. There’s never a ride where something unexpected doesn’t happen.” Gil says Jenny commits to the jokes. "And there’s nothing she doesn’t talk about. She makes the comedy happen. I’ve never seen anyone pull out the character aspects of people like she does.” "Many people come back, and it evolves the longer we work together," he says. “I never realized how fulfilling it is to bring laughter to people. There’s something special that happens on the bus that I don’t get from the stage and that’s why I love it.” Bus tour tickets are $38 each. The tours take place at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, for ages 21 and up. No bachelorette parties or large groups are permitted. “We won't tolerate disruptions,” Jenny says. “People are here for a show.”

In 2022, Christy Hunter, a professional photographer, joined fellow talented photographer and experienced tour guide, Gina Palmeri, to create photographic experiences for locals and visitors in Nashville. They and their team at Photowalk Your Travel capture memories for solo and family travelers, as well as couples and groups celebrating everything from bachelorette parties and birthdays to vow renewals and anniversaries. “I was working weddings and fashion, and just building my career, and I would see all these people lining up at Nashville Wings, The Gulch, on the Pedestrian Bridge and other little areas of Nashville and taking their own pictures,” says Christy. “With the rise of Instagram, everybody wants photos. I would often get asked to take their photos without them knowing I was an actual photographer. They would be surprised when the pictures would turn out so great.” Instead of using their cell phones for amateurish pictures of these iconic places, she wanted to provide them with professional photographs along with tours of all the interesting places in Nashville. But, how would she go about connecting with these people?

“I was scrolling on the website for Airbnb, just dreaming of homes in Paris and other places I couldn't afford, and one summer night I saw that Airbnb had a separate product called Experiences,” says Christy. “Local people in different cities were doing activities for guests coming in, and one was a Parisian photographer who would show you around the city and take your photos. I thought, ‘That's what I'm supposed to be doing.’” She reached out to Airbnb and became an experience host community leader for Nashville. “It just kept growing and that's when I realized I needed to have my own website and make this an actual brand.” That was the beginning of Photowalk Your Travel. Christy feels that taking someone's photos is a very intimate thing. “It's not just transactional and there's always an exchange of energy,” she says. “We had a girl contact us who had just broken up with her boyfriend and she wanted to do something special for herself and get some new pictures. By the end of the shoot, she was crying and thanking us for building up her confidence and giving her this amazing experience.” Christy, Gina and their team feel that what they do is much more than just a photo shoot. “It's time with people and giving them insight into my city,” says Christy. “We tell stories and get to know them, so it's a very personal experience.” They’ve also had women who came for a bachelorette party return with their significant others to do romantic shoots. “We've had lots of repeat guests, which speaks to the personal level of this experience and how absolutely connected they felt with me or one of our other photographers who did the shoot,” she says. Other clients wish they would've contacted Photowalk Your Travel as soon as they arrived in Nashville because after the tour and photo shoot, they now knew the best places to eat, where to shop, and the most special places to visit. Once the experience is over, all these highlights are put into a digital guide for easy reference and for reliving wonderful memories. Photowalk Your Travel is expanding into other cities and currently offers experiences in Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as Nashville. “Our dream is to get set up in a lot of cities such as Austin and Charleston,” says Christy. Over the years, the festival featured many superstar artists and bands performances, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Run DMC and Chance the Rapper. This year's artists include 2 Chainz, Miguel, Waka Flocka Flame, BLXST, Gayle and Muni Long.

Snarky Puppy is a collective band with as many as 20 members in regular rotation from Japan, Argentina, Canada and the United Kingdom. Tickets start at $30 to $59 each.

“I think the most important thing that Makea-Wish Middle Tennessee does is create a community around families when they're going through something scary,” says president and CEO Beth Torres. “Right now, we have about 230 kids waiting for wishes.” One way people can help the organization grant wishes is by attending its 10th Stars for Wishes Gala, which will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville on April 28. “We're going to have great food and a silent auction, but the most exciting part is that it will be emceed by two Wish Kids,” she says. “They and others will share their stories, and then we'll make a wish together. Seeing how these kids have been impacted and knowing there will be more kids impacted is the most powerful thing about our gala.” Whether people attend the gala, give money, time or talent, or get their company involved, they’re helping to create that community that makes wishes come true. A couple of years ago someone offered Beth a live “unicorn," which she thought was great, but she wasn’t sure what she was going to do with it. “Less than six months later, there was a little girl who wished to have a birthday party with a unicorn!” recalls Beth. These special wishes give sick children hope and something to look forward to in the midst of hospitals, medical tests and treatments. “I have the best job ever, and it's not just the granting of wishes, which I think is powerful and magical, but it's that I also get to see the good in people every day,” she says. “I watch them give selflessly and step up to help.” Wish.org/MidTN/Stars-Wishes
