The Heart of Home

Home has always been my favorite place.

I love a unique coastal home and a well-designed space, but what I love most are homes that feel lived in. The kind that are beautiful, yes, but also full of laughter, a little pet hair on the sofa, and a kitchen that actually gets used. To me, that’s real luxury.

As we move into warmer spring and summer months (which I am more than ready for), there’s nothing better than opening the doors, letting the coastal air in, and allowing life to spill outside. Mount Pleasant makes this kind of indoor-outdoor living feel effortless with its temperate spring climate and expansive coastal views.

I couldn’t imagine a better place to call home. Mount Pleasant continues to inspire me daily, and I’m so grateful to create this magazine here surrounded by beauty, creativity, and such a wonderful community.

This issue is centered on home and explores where luxury living is headed in 2026 and beyond. We had the pleasure of spending time with the local businesses and creatives who truly shape how we live and how our homes feel. We met two forward-thinking home builders redefining modern living, a pool design firm transforming empty backyards into resort-worthy retreats, and a talented designer with an expert eye for the finishing touches that make a house feel complete.

I hope their stories inspire you to create homes that are not just stunning, but warm, welcoming, and full of life.

Cheers

NEXT CHAPTER Charleston HITS THE Nail ON THE Head

No Job is too Big or too Small for this Residential and Commercial Renovation Team

As a six-year-old growing up in the Boston area, Josh Zammuto received his first jigsaw from one of nine uncles on his father’s side, six of whom are general contractors. From that early age, he knew he was destined to work in the construction industry. At 22, he started his own business and ran it for a decade.

Deciding that he’d had enough of the harsh Massachusetts winters, Zammuto started researching warmer destinations –and Charleston kept popping up. In 2020, the time came to sell the company and move South with his girlfriend, who is now his wife. While getting a handle on the area, he worked with several developers.

In the meantime, California native Stone Cyrus, who has a background in civil engineering, flipping houses and wholesaling commercial and residential properties, had felt a tug towards starting a renovation company for some time. To pursue that idea, as well as real estate investing, he moved to Charleston in late 2024.

When Zammuto and Cyrus crossed paths while working on a real estate project in 2025, they discovered that combining their talents for full-scale residential and commercial renovations, restoring historic homes as well as efficient handyman services, would give them the opportunity to support a wider range of homeowners, property managers and realtors.

That’s how their business, Next Chapter Charleston, was founded. As Cyrus explained, the name of the company is significant because,  “Every renovation reflects the next chapter of a client’s life, whether that’s marriage, growing a family or looking at retirement.”

Zammuto, who is a new dad, added, “We’re happy with how the name turned out.”

Josh Zammuto

While 60-65% of their current projects are focused on kitchen and bathroom remodels, Zammuto and Cyrus also enjoy exploring the stories that are hidden behind the walls of historic homes.  “Work on older properties has revealed treasures such as original carved fireplaces. We’ve even found antique jewelry,” Zammuto said.

Cyrus commented that on one “stairs to nowhere”-like job site they were working on, they realized that the house was actually two homes that had been connected with siding. He described the attic space as, “A maze with cubby holes that led in all different directions.”

Stone Cyrus

No matter what the scope of the project is, the most rewarding part of their work, they said, is the process of transforming the before to the after. Throughout the journey with their clients, Zammuto and Cyrus insist on the importance of building trust by communicating and following through.

“Working with a client means we are in a relationship together,” Zammuto explained. “We feel that it’s important to focus on that so they know what’s happening every step of the way.”

“We are here for building relationships,” Cyrus agreed. “Our clients know that they can reach us anytime day or night and on weekends and that we show up when we say we’re going to. While that may seem like a basic principle, not everyone in this industry has the same level of respect.”

When it comes to luxury trends for 2026, Zammuto and Cyrus said that tiling a whole bathroom or a full wall in a kitchen are “in.” Additionally, neutral color palettes are a timeless and elegant backdrop for layering furnishings, art and accessories.

Zammuto pointed out that trends aren’t always the focus, however. “People with different tastes and budgets are moving here from everywhere, so our projects are always varied.”

To hone in on what a client is looking to achieve, Zammuto and Cyrus always collaborate with highend designers.

When Cyrus is not on a job site meeting with clients, designers and subcontractors, he enjoys working out at the gym, fishing, shooting, surfing and any other outdoor adventures. Additionally, his seven monthold, 12-pound Australian shepherd puppy named Pepper keeps him on his toes. Meanwhile, Zammuto has relatively little downtime as he’s loving family time with his new daughter.

WHAT’S ALWAYS BEEN “IN” HAS NEVER BEEN “OUT”

PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF STRIPED LEMON DESIGN
By incorporating timeless techniques, Striped Lemon Design transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary

With a deep understanding for the way her clients gather, live and unwind, interior designer and founder of the Striped Lemon Design firm Andrea Dussault creates spaces with a special touch that seems both effortless and extraordinary. “By using quality craftsmanship, premium materials and elevated amenities, our intentional and curated designs encourage entertaining as well as everyday living,” she said. “We thoughtfully incorporate our clients’ lifestyle into every design choice, creating environments that are as visually compelling and expressive as they are functional and livable.”

Dussault commented that lately, clients are leaning towards designs that have a lived-in feel. “Homeowners aren’t looking to create rooms that are cookie-cutter or minimalist, they want nooks and vignettes that mirror their personality and character,” she said.

Using natural elements such as rattan, cane, wood, leather and marble in furnishings, fabrics, wallpapers and rugs, Dussault and her team achieve the sort of timeless look that their clients crave. Texturing walls with tile, plaster, wood, moss or stone and choosing furnishings, accessories, lampshades and window treatments with detailed accents are other strategies she employs for pulling rooms together in a way that, like a cashmere blanket, feels elegant yet comfortable.

She added that weaving colors and patterns into the mix, not just with paint but with wallpaper, murals, artwork and accessories such as lampshades and stacks of books, adds depth and richness.

As Dussault explained, none of these design hacks are trends. “My grandmother taught me so much about enjoying beautiful accessories and furniture and not keeping them packed away or covered. They are meant to be used, enjoyed and appreciated,” she said. “Decorating with vintage or antique pieces and layering patterns and textures invites every room to tell its own story.”

For Dussault, one of the most rewarding aspects of her work is the relationships that she and her team have built with their clients and trade partners. “We absolutely love what we do and couldn’t do any of it without the trusted collaboration and partnerships that we maximize every day,” she said. “To deliver the level of luxury our clients desire, it takes the right high-quality partners, a deep understanding of a client’s desires and lifestyle and the experience and skill to bring it all together seamlessly.”

What inspires Dussault and her team the most, she said, is, “The final reaction and emotion we witness after we bring our client’s vision to life.”

One such job that the design firm recently finished was the Southern Sophistication project, during which, Dussault and her team installed an entirely new kitchen, complete with all new custom cabinetry, gorgeous dolomite countertops and new brushed brass finishes. Adding other finishing touches such as fresh paint throughout, wallpaper in several spaces, custom drapery and pillows, new custom built-ins, lighting and new and existing furnishings and accessories elevated the design and transformed this already beautiful townhome into an updated, sophisticated, southern stunner.

When Dussault isn’t on the job, she loves to be outside working in her gardens, going for bike rides or sitting by the pool. She also enjoys going downtown to try new restaurants and exploring the historic neighborhoods, walking on the beach and looking for dolphins, entertaining and spending time with friends and family and golf cart rides around the island looking at all the beautiful homes and landscaping. For Dussault, the Lowcountry lifestyle never gets old.

TRANSFORMING EXTERIOR SPACES

WITH A FOCUS ON CREATING UNIQUE AND FUNCTIONAL EXTERIOR SPACES, BRICC POOLS + OUTDOOR LIVING FULFILLS A NEED FOR BUILDERS WHO LISTEN TO CLIENTS' VISIONS

When custom home builders Eric and Brandi Cobb started Bricc Pools + Outdoor Living in 2019, it was from a genuine love for crafting beautiful outdoor environments. “At Bricc Pools + Outdoor Living, we aren't just another pool builder, we are your one stop shop for your entire outdoor transformation,” Brandi explained. “We design complete outdoor environments tailored to our clients’ family and lifestyle with a strong emphasis on trust, creativity and craftsmanship. We are unique in that clients don't have to subcontract different firms for each part of their remodel. Our amazing team of onsite designers, contractors and subs makes it possible for us to handle the entire project in-house. This means clear and consistent communication, timely deliverables and quality craftsmanship. Our Dream, Design, Deliver process allows us to start a project right away and have our clients swimming in less than 60 days.”

Although the Cobbs have been designing luxury outdoor spaces for quite a while, Brandi said she still looks at the finished projects in awe of what Bricc has accomplished for their clients. The projects they love the most, she said, are full transformations, adding not just a pool but a gazebo, kitchen, turf, landscaping, hardscaping and even outdoor bathrooms. “When we get to completely rework the space, we are empowering clients to enjoy the beauty that surrounds them. It never gets old watching our clients thrive in their new outdoor living spaces. Creating a way for friends and neighbors to enjoy the beauty of the Lowcountry from the comfort of their own home means everything to us.”

While Bricc has the privilege of consulting on luxury builds and remodels all across the country, Brandi finds that coastal Carolina has its own unique style that influences their designs locally.

“TO COMPLETELY REWORK THE SPACE, WE ARE EMPOWERING CLIENTS TO ENJOY THE BEAUTY THAT SURROUNDS THEM. IT NEVER GETS OLD WATCHING OUR CLIENTS THRIVE IN THEIR NEW OUTDOOR LIVING SPACES.”

“With the marsh grass gently waving in a summer breeze, the dolphins playing in the waves and the jasmine blooming in the spring –there is an endless supply of natural beauty that fuels the Charleston dream,” she said. “What most clients really want is a way to capture that Lowcountry landscape and recreate a piece of it in their own backyard.”

For the Cobbs, bringing their clients’ unique visions to life is the most rewarding aspect of their work. “Because our focus is on creating unique, distinctive and functional outdoor living spaces, being able to show that WOW effect when we wrap a project is our favorite part of what we do,” Brandi said. “Knowing we will be leaving our clients with an elegant long-lasting space is what really inspires us.”

Emphasizing the passion, joy, excitement and pride they have for every project, Brandi added, “We want people to enjoy their homes and not have to sacrifice quality. So, when we say, ‘the most important thing we build is trust,’ we mean it. The relationships we create with our clients don't end when the project does –our clients continue to call us for all their home projects big and small. We are proud to say 90% of our business has been referral-based.”

While the Cobbs do keep tabs on industry trends and new technology such as the Structure Studios 3D VIP Renderings, they have found they are often ahead of the curve because, as Brandi said, “Our clients are the standard for refined coastal luxury.”

When they aren’t working on a project, the Cobbs enjoy spending time with their ten grandchildren, serving in Seacoast church and hosting friends and families at their "funny farm,” surrounded by horses, goats and a tortoise named Shelldon. They also love traveling around the world.

An Ode to the Great Outdoors

INSIDE THE GARDEN-INSPIRED HOME COLLECTION THAT’S BLOOMING IN CHARLESTON

A recent transplant from England to the Lowcountry, artist and floral enthusiast Lucy Hunter designs handpainted wallpaper and textiles inspired by the beauty of nature. She shared with us how her creations transform rooms by bringing the outside in.

HOW DO YOUR HAND-PAINTED WALLPAPER AND FABRICS ENHANCE THE FEEL AND/OR MOOD OF A ROOM?

To me, the most interesting rooms are the ones that are layered in a slightly eclectic way with stories and memories. Elevate decor by using the fabrics and wallcoverings in different patterns and textures that speak to you and make you smile every time you see them.

HOW DOES YOUR ENGLISH AND EUROPEAN BACKGROUND INFLUENCE YOUR DESIGNS THAT CAPTURE THE LOWCOUNTRY LANDSCAPE?

I would like to think I can bring old world charm and romance to the Lowcountry that is full of incredible landscapes, people and history. As with my books and florals, I encourage people to look for wonder and beauty in the familiar and elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary with soft but strong colour combinations, layered designs and old world aesthetic.

Martha art details

WHAT IS A DAY IN THE STUDIO LIKE?

I am a lark, so I’m usually up early and I always do any work requiring total concentration first thing, before 10 AM with a strong hot coffee.

Time for new design work is usually saved for the afternoon with mugs of hot tea. I very rarely spend all day in the studio, though. I need to spend time in the garden or just outside. Sometimes I’ll draw and paint outdoors but then usually get distracted and end up doing just a little bit of gardening, weeding, dead heading, moving pots around on our deck and dreaming of new planting combinations. Sometimes I’ll bring blooms inside to arrange and spend an afternoon capturing them on my camera. It can mean new wallpapers and fabrics take longer to produce but it's all part of the process. It all informs the other.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR VARIOUS PATTERNS?

I like to think of my designs as individual personalities. ‘Martha’ started as inspiration from a camellia flower and a bird motif from an old French textile I had collected many years before. The camellia came from a very old shrub. There is a feeling of an old soul about ‘Martha’ –she is grounded and eccentric but not afraid to be totally herself.  I wanted her to feel timeless, with values from the past, a design that will last the generations.

‘Beatrice’ took her inspiration from an ancient fern –but she always felt fresh and sparky. I wanted her to be a design you could live with whatever your mood.

‘Margaux’ is a large-scale vine that takes her reference from the old walled gardens and courtyards here in Charleston. Her colours are more muted, with soft sage greens and a bruised fig vine, creams and a hint of butterscotch scrambling the walls.

‘Martha’ and ‘Beatrice’ are available on non-woven wallpaper and Belgium linen.

‘Margaux’ is available on non-woven paper and paper-back silk. Additional details are available on www.the-flowerhunter. com. Wallpaper and textiles can be ordered through Halsey and Spruce.

“While I grapple to understand the humidity and soil here, the inspiration for my collections that hasn’t changed are both the light and colour combinations.”

At Charleston Decks and Porches, we bring your outdoor vision to life. From custom new deck builds and complete deck rebuilds to sleek cable-rail systems and one-of-akind porches, we create beautiful, long-lasting spaces made for Lowcountry living. Quality craftsmanship, smart design, and clear communication—start to finish.

Calling All Plant Lovers!

Plants designed to thrive—four easy-tocare for plants suitable for any space.

Plants upgrade a room’s personality, adding texture, color, and visual appeal, while offering benefits that go beyond aesthetics. They improve air quality, lower stress, and provide a sense of routine and grounding. Whether it’s a charming studio apartment overlooking the city or an open, ranch-style home, plants elevate a space from dull to deliberate.

Out of nearly 400,000 plant species worldwide, only a small fraction are suited for life indoors. To survive, plants need the right environment—thriving comes down to choosing plants that fit your space and lifestyle. Some plants need room to stretch. Others prefer structure. Each brings a distinct beauty, yet all rely on the right conditions to flourish.

Live in a home with limited windows? Choose a plant that doesn’t rely on bright, direct light. Travel often? Opt for something that can handle a little neglect.

Cacti thrive in direct sunlight, while water-loving peace lilies prefer medium to low light and consistent moisture. Each plant reflects a balance of discipline and intuition. Caring for plants cultivates a quiet wisdom— knowing what to provide, when to adjust, and when to step back. Whether you’re a nascent plant parent or a seasoned green-thumb extraordinaire, these four plants offer an easy way to add life and style to your home. Read on to discover four easy-togrow plants that meet you where you are.

Chinese Evergreen

The Chinese evergreen serves beauty without the high maintenance. Tropical in feel but unfussy by nature, it offers a wide range of patterns and color variations, making it easy to find one that suits your space. It thrives in low light and grows slowly and steadily, so it won’t outgrow its place or demand constant care.

Snake Plants

Snake plants don’t beg for attention. Forget to water it for a couple of weeks? No problem. Its tall, snake-like leaves will keep their stance. These resilient plants are tough and can survive a little neglect. With clean lines and quiet confidence, it anchors a room without trying too hard. It fits anywhere, especially low-light spaces, making it ideal for people who want structure and beauty without upkeep.

Pothos Rubber Tree Plant

Pothos offer high reward with low effort. With over 20 variations to choose from, its trailing vines and heart-shaped leaves appear in swirls of green, cream, yellow, or white. It grows easily, propagates well, and adapts effortlessly. Its lush growth adapts easily—trailing, spilling, or climbing with support. The more you care for it, the more it gives back. Given the right environment, its growth feels limitless.

The rubber tree plant offers commitment without the fuss. Its upright structure and glossy leaves imbue the room with a quiet elegance that feels intentional, not showy. It grows best when predictability and consistency work together. Comfortable in the spotlight, it thrives as a floor plant, anchoring a room with steady presence. Ideal for plant parents with a novice green thumb ready to level up.
