As a family we have always appreciated the makers and local businesses that truly build and maintain communities all over the world. This issue is one of my favorites because it highlights overall what Mount Juliet Lifestyle Magazine is all about and what matters most, community and love for our local small businesses. We’ve always believed what we can do together is so much more than what we can do apart, and we continue to see that demonstrated through the many stories told in these pages month after month. As a photographer I took this opportunity as often as my girls allowed me to capture their sweetness in themed photoshoots. Valentines Day was always my favorite one to capture because growing up it was always special. My mom would always make sure she planned treats for me and my sisters from her and my dad and it was always something unique and yummy from local shops in my hometown. I remember my dad always bringing home flowers for my mom and making sure she felt celebrated. We hope you take the time to pour into your local shops and restaurants this month to prepare for that special day celebrating with your significant other, friends or family. I'm especially thankful for my valentine of 17 years this year! Also wish him a happy birthday if you see him around town! We hope you enjoy the stories of our community this month and pay extra special attention to some local gems! Grab a coffee at Just Love Mt. Juliet and head home for a game night around the fire with family or friends. Country Artist Chris Young Talks Music, His Podcast, and Supporting Veterans Through the Charlie Daniels Project ARTICLE BY LISA VALENTINE | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

For award-winning Country artist Chris Young, music has always been a way to share stories and connect with people. The Tennessee native has seen immense radio success throughout his career, but the praise that has come from his radio hit “Famous Friends” with Kane Brown holds extra importance to him as it shines a spotlight on his hometown friends, some of which even make an appearance in the music video. “These are all real people,” Young shares of the Platinum-certified song, which has won ASCAP’s 2022 Country Music Song for the Year, as well as Collaborative Video of the Year at the 2021 CMT Awards, among multiple other award nominations. “I mention people that I grew up with, and to be able to write a song like that and for it to resonate with people like that the way it did is just incredibly special,” explains Young of the song that was his tenth No. 1 song as a songwriter and twelfth as a recording artist. Many times radio hits tend to be more universal in order to be relatable and shy away from details that are too specific to the songwriters and artists, but Young and his cowriters Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe decided to take a risk, writing a song that was personal to Young. “…I had no idea it would have this kind of reach, and it has been incredible to see other people connect with this song…A lot of the times you wonder, ‘Should I make a song more ambiguous where it’s not individual names of people so that other people can connect with it?’ and this one was kind of the opposite of that where I was like, ‘Man, maybe I went too personal, but we’ll see what people think about it,’ and it ended up being really, really successful, so it was cool to see.”

While Young seeks to connect with people and touch them with his music, he also knows that he wouldn’t be where he is today without the help and encouragement of others, so he places great importance on lending a hand whenever he can. Young has been a strong supporter and advocate of The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, which works to assist veterans of the United States Armed Forces with various needs after their service. Co-founded in 2014 by the late Charlie Daniels and his manager David Corlew, The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project partners with other organizations with similar missions to provide aid and services to veterans that “do the most good, with the least overhead.” Young is continuously involved in helping the organization aid in the transition back into civilian life for former servicemen and women by using his time and talents to raise funds for the cause. He’s worked with the organization to raise more than $1.2 million since the spring of 2021. In January 2021, the organization honored Young for his work by establishing the Daniels/Young Veterans Scholarship at Young’s alma mater Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), where the on-campus Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center provides services for veterans and their families, who are transitioning into civilian life post-military service and their families. The $10,000 donation to the scholarship in both Young and Daniels’ names assists veterans who are pursuing a degree in the university’s Department of Recording Industry. “Charlie was not only an influence on my music but was a mentor too,” reflects Young. Of this scholarship, Young says he is “extremely honored to help continue his [Daniels’] legacy” through it. CONTINUED >

In addition to his music and philanthropic efforts, Young keeps busy with his podcast “The Quad,” which he co-hosts with his friends Josh, Haley, and Ryan. “We call it ‘The Quad’ for two reasons: one, there’s four of us, and two, it’s four topics…Music, movies, a ‘Hot Take,’ and sports…” explains Young. He describes a ‘Hot Take’ as a category in which they discuss “anything and everything,” including the age-old question, “Is a hotdog a sandwich?”. “It’s just something that’s been a passion project for me,” he says of the podcast. “We do it every Monday. It’s been a lot of fun.” Starting 2023 strong, Young released two new songs in January, “All Dogs Go

To Heaven” and his recent radio single “Looking For You” off of his upcoming album, which is set to be released this year. “Looking for You,” which he describes as an “up-tempo love song,” was one that came quickly in the writing room and that he “had a whole lot of fun making.” Written with hit songwriters Chris DeStefano, Emily Weisband, and James McNair, it was the first time he’d written with this group of songwriters. “I think that song is going to be something special,” shares Young of “Looking For You.” For updates on Young’s music, visit ChrisYoungCountry.com, and to learn more about The Charlie Daniels Project, visit The CharlieDanielsJourneyHomeProject.org.

Did you know that flowers are scientifically proven to lift spirits, bring happiness, and reduce stress? It’s true! Moss’ Flower Shop has witnessed this firsthand after serving the community for over 70 years. This family-owned business has been a staple of Mount Juliet since 1952, well before the city was incorporated. The original building was a feed & seed store built by Charles Moss and his two brothers after returning from World War 2. Over the years, the business passed through three generations. First, it went to Hale & Brenda Moss, who added the flower shop, and now to Charles’ grandson, Joe, who grew up sweeping floors and helping out after school. When his parents were ready to retire, Joe didn’t have the heart to let the family business go. It holds sentimental value for himself and his wife, Lauren, so they agreed to take it on but decided to focus solely on the flower shop. Moss’ moved to its new location in 2016.

Moss has nine team members on staff who use flowers from all over the world. They receive weekly and sometimes daily deliveries from Holland and South America but source local vendors for varieties that grow well in this area. The quality of the flowers, their permanent botanicals, and top-notch customer service make them a town favorite. Lauren Moss says the community has continued to show its support even with the new location. Despite the popularity of services like FTD and Teleflora, Moss’ receives 85% of their orders via phone or website from local customers. Patrons also enjoy the retail gift shop, which includes Tennessee’s own Russell Stover chocolates, Trapp Fragrances, and jewelry from The Blue Herron Studio, a local artisan. When asked about customer loyalty, they credit the Small Business Association and Wilson County Chamber of Commerce for cultivating a desire to shop local and support small hometown businesses. In turn, Moss’ enjoys giving back to the community, which creates a beautiful cycle. For example, they support several local schools that then count on Moss’ during prom season. Each October, they also participate in Petal It Forward by gifting 20 arrangements to other local businesses to spread happiness and let them know they are appreciated. Moss’ Flower Shop has built strong relationships with Mount Juliet families who recognize and appreciate the value flowers can bring to their loved ones. One customer orders an arrangement each week for his wife, who is battling cancer. Another set up a plan before they passed to have a bouquet delivered each year on their spouse’s birthday and their anniversary. It’s heartwarming stories that show the true value of flower delivery for others. While the biggest holidays are Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, the “just because” surprises can mean the most. Moss has two delivery vans to serve the majority of Middle Tennessee six days a week. On a busy day, you may even see Joe & Lauren making deliveries in their personal vehicles because seeing someone smile never gets old.

SHEPHERD OF MOUNT JULIET We sat down with Eddie Rockensock, head of real estate powerhouse Team Rockensock

It’s no secret that Mount Juliet has experienced a lot of growth in a relatively short amount of time. Since the year 2000, the population in Mount Juliet has grown a staggering 187.6% (it’s grown faster than 98% of similarly sized cities). With that kind of growth come many new faces, but the familiar ones remain. Local realtor Eddie Rockensock is one of them. Rockensock has been in Mount Juliet since 1984, going through school and his formative years here. Though he went to college in Jackson, TN, he ultimately ended up back in his hometown. It’s a testament that there is so much to love about Mount Juliet. When asked what he loves about it, Rockensock cites that he’s been here his whole life, “loves the small-time community feel,” and “how the community looks out for everyone.” And he helps foster that feeling of community in multiple ways, both professionally and personally. In the professional sphere, he heads Team Rockensock - a local team of real estate professionals. His team is there to assist clients

in buying or selling a home, which is known to be one of life’s most stressful experiences. Rockensock guides clients through the real estate process, providing exceptional service and cultivating strong connections and friendships. His team sees this as a way to serve God “by caring for his people.” Rockensock has recently been recognized as a leader in the community by being named the president of a local realtors association, where he will help set policy and direction. In his personal life, he coaches both basketball and golf and is very involved in Providence Church. It’s fitting that he acts as a shepherd, utilizing his strong leadership abilities to welcome newcomers while keeping a sense of small-town community in the ever-growing Mount Juliet. In the Mount Juliet community, he is living the values espoused in the Bible, and the mission statement of Team Rockensock “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Mt. Juliet Academy for Girls is a Youth Opportunity facility in Mt. Juliet, Tennesse, offering residents (ranging in ages from 12 to 17 years old) the care and treatment needed to succeed in a world that has otherwise met them with stumbling blocks and immense hardship. This unique establishment was designed to house and provide young foster girls with an education and programs that will teach them the skills they need to succeed confidently. For the past 31 years, Demetria Refoure has devoted herself to the betterment and well-being of young men and women whose people and systems that are supposed to support them have failed them. She has made it her mission to facilitate real, transformative care so that those who cross her path have a chance to

make fundamental changes for themselves and their futures. She tells us, “I love what I do. This is my passion; I love it. I know that God has placed me on this Earth just for this.” Demetria affectionately referred to as Ms. Dee, has been the facility administrator for Mt. Juliet Academy for Girls since 2016. She leads an incredible team, and together they are changing the lives of young girls in our area in a way that has a lasting impact on our communities. Normalization is the key to success for each girl that makes their way through the doors of Mt. Juliet Academy for Girls. Ms. Dee and her staff work diligently to ensure the academy's young ladies understand what normal looks like, as many of them have come from places where education, mental health, daily rountines, and healthy habits were not prioritized. The academy has dorm-style bedrooms, a game room, a family-style dining area, an outdoor recreational area, and a fully equipped music studio. The programs offered at the facility include education, ACT tutoring, independent living classes, family and separate therapy sessions, Teen Outreach Programs, and life skill groups. CONTINUED >

One of the most impactful resources for the Mt. Juliet Academy for Girls is the community's involvement. Every girl is paired with a mentor from the community, who takes them under their wing and participates in scheduled visits. Several Mt. Juliet area churches, one being Crosspoint Church, have a significant presence at the facility as they invite the girls to participate in church activities and provide them with lots of fun, on-campus activities, including birthday parties! Ms. Dee explains, “I truly believe the young ladies need to see [community involvement] and see how a community is supposed to look and how it’s supposed to feel... It’s a big part of their success.” With Ms. Dee at the helm, Mt. Juliet Academy for Girls is teaching young ladies to use their voices and become their own advocates so that they find their place in a community that is ready to embrace them with open arms. And love is at the center of it all.

Every woman dreams of an organized and beautiful closet space, but it often comes last on the list of places that get their time and attention. Follow our three tips for transforming and elevating your closet as you Spring clean and declutter for a more peaceful, inspired space you absolutely love. A sneak peek inside the closet of active mom and entrepreneur Keri Tarantino of Leawood, KS reveals a dressing room that rivals celebrity homes in Beverly Hills. But it didn’t come easily. Keri painstakingly planned, designed and curated the space with care. When we first stepped inside, we gasped as our eyes beheld the glory. No detail went unnoticed in this dreamy dressing room. Here are some guiding principles that can be drawn from her exquisite taste and vision. How you organize your closet will of course differ based on the size of your space, the size of your wardrobe, and the kind of life you lead. But applying the guidelines Keri used in her space will result in a much more organized and aesthetically pleasing space.

1. USE REAL ESTATE WISELY Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. For someone who gets dressed for work each morning at 6 a.m., work clothes should be at the front of the closet. Store lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season clothes toward the back and on the upper shelves. The large mirror and counter with chair provides the perfect spot to select jewelry and finalize finishing outfit touches. While every closet is different, the key here is everything has a home.

2. ORGANIZE BY KIND AND COLOR Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.

3. UPGRADED HANGERS The simplest and fastest way to make a BIG difference in your closet organization is to get matching hangers that go beyond the traditional plastic or wire hangers. And for sure ditch any with paper from the dry cleaner! Here’s a few of our favorite elevated hangers:
